PART1: GTAB 3588 Recovery Pack
IMPORTANT NOTE: THESE WILL ONLY WORK WITH 1.1-BASED ROMS!!!!! The new Viewsonic build 4349 does NOT work with these!!!
What this is
A set of tools to flash recovery within a rooted GTablet. This pack includes stock 3588 and bekit's .8 clockworkmod recovery, the flash_img utility, and a Terminal Emulator. This is completely mod-agnostic and should be able to work on most rooted mods. Do NOT use this on 1.2-based stock or mods!!!!
This pack will be built into TNT Lite 4.3.0 and gADAM 1.3.0. I am supplying this pack for all other rooted "legacy" 1.1-based mods out there.
Installation Instructions
This is in an update.zip format. Extract the rar to the root of your internal memory, so that you have a recovery folder and an update.zip. You'll need the apk folder only if you wish to install the Terminal Emulator via a sideload.
Run either standard or clockworkmod recovery and install the same way you would install any ROM. Again, this is only a small set to tools, not a full ROM!
Usage
a) To flash recovery to 3588 stock recovery, using your GTablet
- Download the app "Android Terminal Emulator", by Jack Palevich. Or sideload it (the apk is in the RAR file)
- Run the app, toggle the soft keyboard and change the font settings, if desired (default is very small)
- Type "su" (Superuser should allow su access. If not, you are not rooted and cannot use this!)
- Type "fixrecovery.sh". This should run the flash_image tool and complete in 5-10 seconds
Reboot into recovery to test. 3588 stock has no options, so assuming you have no update.zip in the root of your /sdcard, it should just error out with an "!" error (that's what we want to see).
b) To flash recovery to clockworkmod .8 bekit version recovery, using your GTablet
- Follow steps 1 to 3, above
- Type "cwmrecovery.sh". You should the flash_image tool run and complete
Reboot into recovery to test. You should see the clockworkmod .8 bekit screen, which means the flash was successful.
c) To flash either recovery with adb
Just use an "adb shell" and then run the shell script needed. Again, this requires root access.

=====================================
PART2: Clockworkmod .8 bekit (legacy version)
What this is
This is the legacy clockworkmod for 1.0.1-1.1 ROM's (ie. VEGAn, gADAM, TnT Lite 1.x-4.x, etc). It's an update.zip package to flash to clockworkmod, and is OS and hardware agnostic. Do NOT use this on 1.2-based stock or mods!!!!
Installation Instructions
This is in an update.zip format. Extract the main ZIP to the root of your internal memory, so that you have a recovery folder and an update.zip.
Testing
Reboot into recovery. If you see "clockworkmod .8 bekit" in the title, then it is installed.

PART3: Stock 3588 Recovery Standalone
What this is
This is the stock 3588 recovery for 1.0.1-1.1 ROM's (ie. VEGAn, gADAM, TnT Lite 1.x-4.x, etc). It's an update.zip package to flash to 3588 stock recovery, and is OS and hardware agnostic. Do NOT use this on 1.2-based stock or mods!!!!
Installation Instructions
This is in an update.zip format. Extract the rar to the root of your internal memory, so that you have a recovery folder and an update.zip.
Testing
Reboot into recovery (and ensure you have no update.zip in the root of your device). Standard recovery is very simplistic - if you get an "!" error, you most likely have standard recovery installed.

Is this the 'writing on the wall' concerning 3991? Or just another tool?

The need for a way to get back to 3588 recovery has been coming up lately - this is a way to address that.
excellent work as always roebeet...if u don't mind just 1 suggestion...when i write my tutorials and such i try to keep things as generic as possible for easier future changes. might i suggest to make your job easier in the future to change the 3588 wording and such to something like latest vs stock or something similar? then all you have to do is update the link and link's descriptor. same thing with cwm i suppose. regardless, this is definitely sticky worthy IMO. great work

I actually worded this with future proofing in mind. It will likely always stay 3588.
I have to see if the next VS firmware changes things - if it does, 3588 is a term we will all be using. Or "1.1" or "legacy".
Roebeet,
Just to clarify, if I wanted to go back to 3588 from TNT 5.0.1 (TwoTapsx), I just use the native recovery mode of TwoTapsx to load the 3588 update.zip file and then install clockworkmod .8?
The 3588 recovery packs and procedures mentioned here would or would not also work to down grade from 3991 to 3588?
Thanks,
Gramps..

I amcurious about this too. Assume I flash to a rom with the new recovery, can I get back to 3588 with these tools?

I have to revamp my instructions, but the gist of it is this: You just run 3588 stock ROM, against the TNT Lite 5 / TTx standard recovery. That standard recovery will downlevel the bootloader, which the critical part to avoid a brick.
TNT Lite 4.3.0 and gADAM 1.3.0 should also work, but for the sake of my sanity I'm just going to recommend running 3588 stock as a backout.

Yeah ... I'm wondering the same too
Also wondering should I follow PART1, PART2 and PART3 for recovery process?

Roebeet,
If I have installed clockworkmod for TNT Lite 5, can I just flash update using CWM from image downloaded from PART3 ?
All of the Part 1-3 instructions address versions 1.0.1 - 1.1 (the first generation of ROMs
and software) as far as I can understand. Will there be a "Part 4" like
them to address the 1.2 software -- 3991 and TTx (since I have both and will have to
go back eventually.
Rev
EDIT -- I changed this post to what I want to know so I wouldn't muddy the waters.

There will be, if it's needed. I might update the title and move things around, or create a new thread. It's hard to know until I see what gets released.
"1.0.1" and "1.1" are the stock ROMs we currently have (3588 is actually 1.1-3588, for example). 3991 UAT is "1.2".
So what would the process be to revert from 3991 and TT?
To make sure -- I run the Part I need above using the recovery
in 1.2 (3991 and TTx).

dony71,
My bad. I said I was trying not to muddy the waters and in asking what
I wanted to know I did just that. My apologies.
Since I didn't see an option for UAT 3991 and TTx (1.2 versions) in the original first post, I was wondering if roebeet was going to add another section explaining in
detail the procedure for them.

It's going to go into the TTx thread, initially (it's my giant list of To Do's). That's because "1.2" isn't released yet.
Thanks for the clarification.

Roebeet
This should eliminate many questions from new rooters as the original recovery instructions have been modified so many times. Thanks again for making a fairly simple process even simpler
Easy to understand and simple method to recover. Thanks Roebeet.
Will this work to return to stock 1.1 from 1.2.4349 ?

Step 1. Go to the developer section
Step 2. Read the stickies
Step 3. Select a ROM that suits your needs
Step 4. Follow the instructions found in the stickies for rooting, installing CWM, and flashing a custom ROM carefully
Finally. Do not install the 3.2 FOTA update if you want to root. You will not be able to root or install a custom ROM if you do.
i read the sticks several time but i cant manage to flash my iconia the problem appears to me with the program "iconia recovery installer" when I download it and transfare it to the tablet the install buttom was not shown
So you are not rooted yet, find iconiaroot 1.3 I think is the latest one and root your tablet, install acer recovery, then flash your rom make sure you do backup before flashing rom, hope this helps.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
i downloaded this version. And. Root. It as you say and it said to me that it is successfully. Rooted but still the same with Acer recovery installer
Install RootCheck and verify you have Root.
That's write get the rootcheck from market that will guide you to install busybox you probably missing.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
i installed busybox installer
and it give me this message
your device is rooted
busybox location :/system/bin/
busybox version: v119o gitadrynalyne
phone model: a500
rom versin: acer_a50040100lcom_gen2
and the same thing with acer recovery installer
could you give me a link for that program may be my version is the problem idont know what to do
still need help brothers
Still waiting for you to install RootCheck and tell us the results...
It's on the market.
thank you a lot
finally i did it the problem was from the file "acer recovery installer i was using when i download it again from another source everything goes as it should be and now i am happy with usb 3g working on my tablet
My first post please bear with me.
This should be on thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227 but no privilege yet.
1. My noob question is "while on unstable 3.0.1" how could I install the Iconia Root / Acer Recovery, whilst I couldn't connect to wi-fi because the keyboard keeps on hiding due to errors?
2. If I would do a hard reset, does this will give me the factory default of stock 3.0.1?
Thanks,
You should have already downloaded these before doing the rollback.
Acer recovery you can download through the http android market.
As with Iconia root, check the initial sticky's in the dev forum. Should be a zip file posted there for the apk.
It's possible to get the keyboard to work--I wish I could tell you exactly how! I fiddled with the keyboard/input settings and eventually got a keyboard that doesn't crash. It's white and not very pretty, but it works.
I also figured out some way to get the keyboard working and also needed to download the recovery tool (the instructions did not mention that I needed to download it before the rollback).
But does a USB keyboard also not work? Just try plugging a keyboard in de USB port and see what happens.
download acer recovery installer, iconiaroot 1.3, and also a custom rom or stock 3.2 with root included and install it. Download it to your sd card . After you have downgraded to 3.01 unstable install some filebrowser and root it with iconiaroot , after that install acer recovery installer and then update your superuser binaries from market. Shutdown your tablet and start it holding power plus volume up button to acer recovery, wipe all cache and install custom rom or stock 3.2 rooted.
As i understand - there is no more upgrade to the operation system.
mine is the newest (4 )and i'm not satisfied with it.
Can someone tell me how to root it and what os to install and how. there are some guides but i do not know if they actual and good for os4 ver.
thanks.

Please don't start another *how do I root* thread there are dozens if not hundreds of postings on here explaining in great detail how to achieve root.
sorry but....
1. I ask for the best and easy way to root android 4
2.also for the best firmware.
thank you anyway...
To get root & custom recovery, the following methods are reported to be working with the latest Asus ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1689193
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1681155
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1688012
The first method ( [TOOL]PERI-0.4 One click root+recovery/fix-bootloops+soft-bricks ALL Devices V0.4) works well for me on TF101G with latest ICS . Just install it on the PC, run the .BAT file and follow the instructions to root and install Custom Recovery and Root / SU on the Transformer.
The only issue I've had is that this custom Recovery won't seem flash the ASUS stock ROM for some reason. So what I do now is use the above tool to get root and Custom Recovery, then use that to flash ClockWorkMod Recovery v6.0.1.4 NoTouch Hybrid from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1855686 - click the Download link and get the cwm-6.0.1.4-notouch-hybrid.zip file (apparently the Touch version is currently broken).
From CWM recovery you should be able to flash any custom ROM and kernel etc., and also return to stock by flashing the ASUS stock ROM from their download site (make sure you select the right one for your model and unzip it first - for some reason they put the zip ROM inside another zip).
If you do return to stock, don't forget you'll also lose root and custom recovery so you'll need to start over.
I'm using Android Revolution HD 3.4.3 3G which seems pretty stable. I've also heard good things about Revolver, but I couldn't get 3G working on the 3G version.
Good luck.
1 click root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193
This worked for me. Just make sure you download version for your transformer.
well thank you all ...
thank you all...
Hi.
I have just got a Acer 501 from ebay and it is running
Acer_A501_4.066.24_COM_GEN1 with HC 3.01 BL
I have tried to do the OTA update via the system and It says that its up to date.
I thought it would OTA to ICS bit it does not seem to keen on the idea.
I have downloaded acer recovery installer from the market and it says there is no recovery installed and it cannot find root, then Crashes and FC
Now Because the A501 is ging to be used with Elavon Mobile Merchant the device has to be stock rom and unrooted.
I would like to have ICS on the device and would like a few pointers please as to how to get ICS onto the device.
Thanks in Advance for any replies
you are in Honey Comb 3.0.1 ROM (the factory default) .... you need to find the update file of your device , so you will update manually to at least HoneyComb 3.2 ....then it automatically will OTA update to HC 3.2.1 then to ICS 4.0.3
look here for the update files of booth A500 and A501

Thanks for that Dr but am already 3.2.1
still 2 options to go :
1- did you download the "ICONIA TAB Update Enhancement" from the market ?
if no ,
then download , restart , then recheck for updates
2- download couple of the ICS A501 update packages in this thread ((http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560)) then convert them to "update.zip" , put them in SD-Card , then shutdown , hold vol+ then power led ... you should go to recovery mode and update manually from the SD-Card .... please take in consideration , take copies of your CPUID (AKA: UID) ,also this step may brick your tab , and you'll have to go back to factory setting after a huge dilemma , so be caution with it
Done 1. and it still says no update available
Also acer recovery thing from the market says no recovery installed not tried to boot into recovery yet. So I guess next step is option 2.
