Here the story so far:
1) rooted
2) installed Snd init 2.0 bootmenu 0.6.1
3) backup
4) flashed CM7.2
5) backup
6) restore stock
Now I have 2.5.1.8 clockworkmod, but I had 5.x.x.x with CM I am sure.
Now two questions:
1) how could it happen?
2) can I restore only the recover.img I saved with CM and how?
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
it is the blue one right? then it is the CWM that gets installed with CM7
Yes, can I install only that recovery without flashing CM7. I have the recovery.img dump.
Sent from my MB526 using XDA App
Maybe I guessed what happened. The "old" clockworkmod writes a big img file with all inside of it, while the new version splits boot, recovery, system, etc.
So when I reverted to original ROM I overwrote the recovery whith the old one (the one i had to make nandroid backup of the original rom).
Anyway, I need help. I have tryed to flash the Clockworkmod from CM following this guide, but fastboot hangs saying "Waiting for device".
Any hint?
Much simpler than I thought: use Defy 2nd init, uninstall and install again choosing bootmenu 1.0.7 latest. This will install also a recovery 5.0.3.x

Searched, but couldn't find an answer to this. I rooted and installed ROM Manager so I can do a nandroid backup before installing a custom ROM. However, when I press back up in ROM Manager, it restarts and hangs/freezes on the HTC MyTouch 4g splash screen.
What am I doing wrong?
Have you flashed CWM recovery after installing Rom Manager. You must flash the recovery before you can backup/restore or install roms. I almost did that myself but luckily i read the thread concerning it again and flashed REcovery before trying to back up rom.
Yeah, I did that first and the problem remains. I just uninstalled and reinstalled ROM Manager and am about to try "backup current rom" again (unless I should reboot into recovery and back up from clockwork recovery?).
FWIW; Current recovery is ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2
anyone?
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I just started getting exactly the same. Cant reboot manually into clockwork recovery or from Rom manager :/
If you have flashed a recovery beyond that supported by ROM manager, you will not be able to perform recovery functions from the app (i.e. backup). CW3 is required for CM7 ROMs, but will not be supported by ROM manager until the CM7 RC drops. You can still manually boot to recovery (I always Vol up when powering then select Recovery) and if you have CM7 nightly installed, it has a "reboot to recovery" option in the reboot menu.
You need CWM3 to use CM7.

Sometimes it is necessary to flash clockwork recovery more than once before it will actually stick. Also, occasionally it will freeze on the splashscreen after a backup, but a battery pull and turning out the phone should be fine.

Here's what's going on:
The Clockworkmod Recovery that you can download from the Market only supports up to CyanogenMod 6.x. For CM7, you need to install Clockworkmod Recovery 3.x, but that version isn't available on the Market yet.
What this means is that you need to find the image file for a CWR 3.x on these forums and manually install it through either a terminal emulator or fastboot. The post below explains how to do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10862819&postcount=3
If you flash CM7 using CWR 2.x, your phone won't boot. There's just no way around it.

Careful with the terminology there. ROM Manager, the app you download from the Market, is a GUI front-end to the CWM recovery image, but you can download and install CWM without using ROM Manager at all. Just because you have ROM Manager installed doesn't mean that CWM recovery is also successfully installed.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't imply that CW ROM Manager and CW Recovery are the same thing though...

You said "the Clockworkmod Recovery that you can download from the Market", and that kinda does. No biggie though.
Just an update for my problem, it turned out that clockwork recovery had corrupted for whatever reason and couldn't be reinstalled from rom manager. As I wanted to test Cm7 anyways I just ended up flashing clockwork recovery 3 manually through fastboot and its all gravy again

How to flash clockwork recovery from fastboot or fron clockwork recovery 2.51?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thanks, everyone. What happened with mine, I have no idea, but I randomly opened rom manager and was greeted with an update to the recovery. So I downloaded it and voila - I can now boot into recovery and do backups, etc...
I was running CM7 RC3 fine on my phone, then I decided to switch back to my nandroid backup to stock ( I have done this wil ICed glacier/CM7 RC2/RC1/Royal Ginger etc with no problems). And I have been stuck on the boot splash screen the "Tmobile Mytouch 4g" screen for 20 minutes now without any action... is this a brick? I know I should not worry, but I tried wiping the dalvik cache the acahe and reset to factory setting.... still nothing
How do I go about getting the phone to work?
Thanks
are you running recovery 3.0.0.6? have you tried a battery pull?
Yes, a battery pull was tried, and I am running 3.0.0.5... any help is really appreciated
How do I possibly install 3.0.0.6 now? is it possible?
Thanks
need 3.0.0.6 to run stock or royal glacier. or 2.5.1.2. need to reinstall cm7 and use rom manager to flash recovery. or at least its the eaisest way for me.
follow drews guide and let us know how it goes. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681
unfortunately, I am not being able to go back to royal ginger (its on the toyal ginger splash screen now) I am downloading CM7 RC3 again, but have no way to put it on the sdcard coz I do not have a card reader at this point....... so frustrated.
you can use recovery to mount usb and it will mount the sd card and can tranfer files from computer to card. if you can get to recovery its not bricked. make sure you format boot sys data and cache in mount screen before trying reflash.
Push the cwm 3.0.0.6 recovery image to your phone via adb
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Google easy way to get 3.0.0.6 and it should be a zip file u flash in recovery called clockwork_recoveries.zip or something like that. You go into rom manager pick all recoveries and flash 3.0.0.5 and reboot into recovery and it should say 3.0.0.6 now u can flash any rom and restore without getting stuck

Your phone is not bricked. As others have stated, you need to re-flash a gingerbread ROM (like CM7) in order for it to boot.
Best thing to do is install ClockworkMod Recovery version 3.0.0.6 because it can flash both gingerbread and froyo ROMs. You can do this in two ways:
1. Re-flash a Gingerbread ROM. Download TrueBlue_Drew's .zip file from his thread in Development and follow his instructions to be able to flash the included recovery images from ROM Manager.
2. If you have the engineering bootloader (0.85.2007, also some people call it ENG SPL), and if you've set up ADB on your computer, then you can use the fastboot utility to flash recovery images directly to the device. I personally prefer this method. If you can't find instructions to do this, PM me.
i just installed cm7 (Mills00013's cdma version) and was wondering if i go to the clockwork mod recovery app that was installed with it, would flashing clockworkmod recovery mess up my phone, or would it work because i heard that cm7 for xplay can use cmw recovery?
thanks in advance

Old thread, but Clockwork red is normally needed to get CM7 or MIUI started, then Clockwork Blue is installed, and you re-install the ZIP for CM7/MIUI full functional. Clockwork just replaces the stock recovery files.
You can't flash clockworkmod recovery. When you open rom manager, you'll notice that there is no available recoveries for our phones. In addition to that, there is no way for the system to flash a recovery if it wanted to because there is no actual recovery partition to overwrite for our devices. The recoveries we are blessed with using now use a kernel modification to allow recovery to boot from the boot partition, which cannot be touched except with fastboot.

Hi all. Sorry fo my bad English - I'm russian.
Ok, I have a bricked ZTE Blade - GEN2, China 256Mb RAM.
I've read this topic modaco com/topic/343587-guide-de-bricking-a-zte-blade/
I have some problems, thats why I'm asking for some help.
1) I've used Method 5: The dodgy ZTE firmware flasher
At the point Flash Firmware - 6)When finished it should boot into FTM mode. - but it doesn't.
I've took out the battary, and rebooted my phone in the FTM-mode. Succesfully restored IMEI (got no errors).
And then:
Put clockworkmod in the recovery partition
Take out the battery and turn on the phone. Clockworkmod should load
There is no ClockWork! Only FTM...
Installed ClockWork via cmd script. It has loaded, but here is the next problem:
"You can now flash a ROM"
I've tried to flash Swedish_Spring_RLS5. So I mounted system and data.
Installation ok, but if i reboot i get clockwork.
Tried to flash image.bin from zte-website. If i reboot after the installation i get clockwork.
Tried to get stock recovery. Installed it via cmd script, but it doesn't load.
I get FTM-mode.
There is no phone-workshop in my city, and I have no more warranty for this smartphone, so i hope you can help me. Thanks.
At the beggining the problem was - the boot was down. The splash appeares, slides to right, the phone reboots.
Try reflashing clockworkmod and do a full wipe.
It might also help if you format system.

Does the rom flash process success?
Try flashing another rom.

there are files in the system partiton.
when i make a backup i see all the files from the os.
have tried. cm7, cm9, other stock: 2.1, 2.3 - every gives the same result - only cwm is loading.
when i flash the stock recovery - then i get only ftm on load.
is my phone totally bricked? i hope there is a way to restore...
It's semi-bricked. You could try to flash stock rom with ftm and root it with z4root.

tried:
1) china tpt's
2) all wipes and formats
3) all mounts + flashing Swedish_Spring_RLS5
4) boot.img via adb

Just reflash rom and wipe data.
If the problem didn't get fixed, flash another rom.

Flashed a stock China ROM.
No success. Boot info FTM. No way to boot the system...

Before doing this, you could also hard reset the phone, that way there's not going to be any software-related problems.

what i do
Ok. What i do.
1) Launch ZTE Flasher, swich my phone into download mode (vol+/vol-/power)
2) Flash IT (China v880 Firmware)
3) When finished - release battery.
Turn on and get FTM-mode, no clockword or smth. else. Only FTM.
4) TPT's : China v880 GEN2 TPT's.
When finished - the phone doe's not reboot. Need to release the battery, and to power on.
5) Oh my God! Yellow CWM!!!
I mount data,system.
All wipes.
Format all, except SD.
6) Flashing ROM.
7) Reboot.
After the reboot I get CWM (on stock rom's) or FTM (after CM).
What am I doing wrong?
Try method 1.

First follow the instructions in this guide listed in "Common Problems/Questions" section.
This is what helped me:
Method 1:
Download this SBF and Flash it
Do a factory reset
Root your Phone
Download 2nd Init 1.4.2 and Install ClockworkMod Recovery
Download and install this Nandroid Backup << File is Back, thanks Ichibanme again!>>
Enter Recovery, Wipe Data/Cache
After wiping, turn off your phone
Turn it on and get immediately into Bootloader mode
Flash this Fixed SBF
Delete Data/Cache again and reboot.
Then follow this guide [GUIDE][FAQ][Android 4.4 KitKat] Installing & Customizing CM11 or SlimKat
another possibility for non BL7 stock
- or you can flash this sbf
or this sbf which are both froyo stock
- root it using this one on Windows
- install cwm with 2nd Init 2.3 apk
- and at least flash twrp 2.6.3.0 which is necessary to get cm 11 boot because of SElinux support
!!! after flashing twrp u need to reboot to recovery again and flash rom right away !!! otherwise it won't boot
this helped me to get rid of it
