Newbie bit of help - Atrix 4G General

Hi guys,
I have just bought an atrix, putting customs ROM on isn't that alien to me so i have a little bit experience but I'm a bit confused regarding the atrix.
I have bought it in the UK and its currently locked on orange, things seem geared up for US phones but is it as simple as following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
Ultimately i want to unlock, root and install an ICS rom.
Any tips of things to NOT do would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

what he said.
and, not to focus on you or anything, but it seems like nobody does any research anymore.
it's like everyone just wants someone to tell them exactly what to do.
it's freaking irritating, really.

Easy to install 2.2 rom?

Hey guys-
I was wondering if anybody would be willing to create an easy to install froyo rom for the vibrant that could be installed through rom manager? If it's possible and someone would be willing to take on the challenge I and many other noobs out there would be much ablidged. Thanks in advance.

CM 6 is coming. For now enjoy the great job done so far
if you take a look at other threads under this forum, there has been work at porting 2.2 to this phone. Some difficulties in getting a fully functional build. I would recommend using the search function before starting a new thread, especially when posting under development, as you'll prolly get flamed pretty heavily.

I'm totally aware there's a 2.2 rom out for the vibrant already but what I'm asking for is a much easier to install version of froyo.

It does exist. It was the international Froyo leak but it is not a complete Froyo since it is missing JIT as well as other things. That leaked ROM is incomplete and is not stable for everyday use. Especially on a Vibrant, there are a lot of bugs with it and it is not recommended to be using it as the daily ROM.
It's better off waiting for 2.2 to release by Samsung or the CM team. It's just around the corner. Be patient.

They're working on it, once Eugene has it fixed, he's going to make a flashable .zip file for easy installing. He posted this in his 2.2 thread.

Exactly - there is no Froyo rom that is much easier to install than the leaked int'l one, let alone a stable one. What he's asking for doesn't exist. There's no secret, stable, froyo.zip floating around that people just aren't talking about.
I havnt seen a single rom on here that ISNT easy to install....
just waiting to see flame city for this one, similar questions have been asked time and time again... plus this isnt Q&A forum.....

Well for anyone that didn't use ODIN as there method of rooting and who doesn't want to spend more time then having to flash a basic .zip file, than there are some harder to install roms.

I'm aware nothing like that exists yet, that's why in the original post I requested someone create one, not if there is one already.

This forum has become like a kindle box just one spark turns us all in to flames. Calm down guys and remember you have something other than your E(letronic)ego to work about. Im sure you have cut infront of a car before not trying to be rude just let this pass and answer the damn question.
So far theres not an easy way to get a fully functional 2.2 however as with anything give it time and we will see it some time.
i do believe that everyone on here wants that including all the developers working on it. if we were happy with 2.1 then we would have stuck with the original os that samsung put out for the vibrant. really did you have to ask this here? or at all? its technology its always growing. give it time!

Fair enough - my bad, OP. If it was easily doable though, you can believe it would be done. I can't dev, so I wait and watch, because the guys (and gals) that can are doing whatever they can.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to create an easy to flash Gingerbread ROM for me. I thought that I could sit home on my ass while Smeone else does the work and afterwards complain about how slow the development is on Android 3.1 Horseradish......and do it all for free.
THANKS.

I previously had an HD2 and spent ages with that, flashing new roms etc. I understood the point of that as WM was a pretty poor OS. However with Android I'm not sure if there is any point in real terms.

Rooting has lots of great benifits. You can flash amazing OS and experience the full developer experience on your device. Wifi Tether for those who want to shoot Wifi from there phone with no charge. Great customization choices when you pick a ROM that allows it. And you can even increase the value of your phone when resale comes up in the future. The root method is a little complicated but it will be worth it when your done. Better your device for your liking and have fun doing it of course! Hope I helped

Thank you

Hey everyone. I just wanted to say a HUGE THANKS to all of you. I made the switch from a jailbroken iPhone to an Atrix 4G on ATT and because of the knowledge base of the users, an organized forum and an excellent search function, I was able to unlock my bootloader, root my phone and install Gingerblur all wiithin an hour. KUDOS!
Welcome! The fun is only starting.

Before the bootloader was unlockable, there were the people unhappy with their phones and made threads in a toddler temper tantrum announcing they were getting a different phone and why. It always made me chuckle, that they think anyone cares. Don't see much of those threads anymore.
I have 3 Atrix. I knew that it was a matter of time until it showed its real potential. Now it finally is. it has has a bad rap but it should be more appreciated now.

I'd like to say thanks too. I've rooted, unlocked the bootloader, manually installed GB and the radio update and installed CWM recovery. And everything just worked. The roms and programs worked great, and any lingering issues I had were resolved by a quick search of the forums. You guys have made the process of updating my phone a breeze. Thanks so much!
Granted the Iphone stuff was super easy.... just wait for an update, then wait for someone to develop a jailbreak for it...I just jailbroke my sons friends ipod by going to jailbreakme.com and that was it. Now as far as themes and overall customization, this phone is badarse.

10" screen apps?

Just saw the 10 inch Youtube app on Sony Tablet S and I love it.
Now is there any way to get it WITHOUT rooting, I assume with PA ROM you could just change "size" but I don't wanna root this beauty.
Thanks for your help.

You do realize that not one person owes you or anyone else on this site anything. Certainly not answers to your questions or responses to your demands. People take time out if their lives to help others in need. With comments like that, you are even less likely to get help or answers to your questions.

The app is the same for all devices it just changes its layout due to the DPI that is set.....and you need to be rooted to change that. So unless Google decides the tablet layout is OK for this smaller screen then we are out of luck.

[Q] Running the JB leak, what do I need to do to get the OTA?

I think I saw this question in another thread with a slight distinction, that person who asked had rooted and removed stock apps, and wanted to know what they needed to do, so I am wondering if my answer would be any different.
I had installed the leaked JB, and am unrooted. I am a relative noob, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
