The touchscreen of my defy starts acting weird whenever there is sweat on the screen. Even if there's little sweat or water on the screen, the touchscreen starts clicking random links when im browsing or opens random apps if im in the app drawer. I have to lock and unlock the phone and this problem goes. Is this a known fact or is there a problem with my screen?

This is common for all phones with capacative touchscreens. If the screen comes in contact with water or sweat, it doesn't work at all or it behaves wierdly. Capacative screens require a particular humidity to work correctly. If you are in a cold place, it will be less responsive
Hello, I have a Defy+..i am facing the same problem...my phone is free of water and sweat still i am facing the same problem....let me know if you have found out the answer to touch screen problem...waiting for your reply.

Try cleaning the screen well, and change your screen protector. I noticed that by using a newer/ cleaner protector, the screen was a lot more responsive and overall better.

Take to service center? maybe you got a defective piece
hey
i have that same problem when screen is wet or my fingers are the screen doesn't respond any more
i did some research and found that the only way to fix it is to replace the digitizer of the phone and the screen will work very well after that

sad to say, our defy don't work on wet screen or even slight dirty screen.
unlike the latest sony ericsson experia go. which features wet finger tracking.

Never before.. the screen is totally off? What do you use to clean the screen? Do you feel the same touching the bright area and the opaque area?
Silly question maybe but has it got a screen protector on it?
Is it very humid where you are? Looks like moisture under the screen.
Take it to Samsung, maybe it's some kind of defect that's allowing moisture in.
There's no screenprotector on it. When it just appeared I couldn't feel the spots, now I can by moving my finger over them. They look like tiny scratches caused by sand but I always carry my phone in my pocket so that's just impossible.
At the photo the screen is totally turned off. I don't use any chemicals to clean the screen.

No idea.. I'm using screen protector until I got it out the box. By the way I always carry it in my pants pocket, and normally I use jeans... but the protector looks fine.
The area does look like the usual place to touch the screen (normal keyboard usage at the bottom of the screen and up/down scrolling in the middle). My only conclusion is either a defect screen or you've used it once without noticing you still had some chemicals on your skin.

My thought too, maybe it had pressure with someting when you had it in your pocket with something else that was in your pocket or something that pressed you leg/poket for outside

I never carry something in the same pocket a where I carry my phone in. As I move my finger over the screen I can slightly feel a bit of rough surface but when I clean my screen it's not visible while some other damaging is.
If it is in fact a damaged screen I wouldn't panic too much. There are tutorials online on how to repair damaged screens (as long as they're glass). You sand and polish the screen and it comes out as good as new. Although, for the SGS it would probably be best to remove the screen from the chasis first (they don't remove the screen as there is no bezel).
What games have you been playing? It look more like rubbing marks on several games that I can think off.
The damage is probably under the glass from excessive pressure over a pride of time.

The coating has come off the screen it looks like... something must have been on your hands that burnt it off.
It's almost impossible the damage has been caused by excessive pressure. Since a few days I can actually feel the spots as they are a bit more rough then the rest of the screen. If the coating has come of the screen, will it be accepted when I return it warranty?
I had exactly this but a bit smaller. I took it back to the store (Hi) and requested a repair. The first time i noted 2 errors for it:
- Screen screwed
- GPS fix doesnt work or takes long
So... what they did; they flashed 2.2 and sent it back as repaired (funny I downgraded it to 2.1 stock after running 2.2.1 for weeks for this repair...). The folks at Hi agreed it was bullsh*t and they sent it again with the notice they didn't repair the screen. After another week the online status page said they didn't find a defect. Hi called them before they sent it back to have another look at it, since I even provided pictures with a red circle around the spots I'm still confused how they could miss this (maybe only blind people work at Teleplan...?). Then a few days later i saw they replaced "front mea i9000". Since today i got it back with a brand new screen. So.. if anyone else has this problem: send it back for repair and provide the picture in this topic to be extra clear (I wish I saw this photo, otherwise I would have provided this one with it).
I have the same thing only a lot smaller...
I have a circle on my screen from my €2 currency. Its not a scratch but something weird...

did not you touch it accidentally with a "dirty" finger? (like isopropyl alcohol or adhesive remover etc) I had a similar damage on my HTC phone long time ago... I forgot to wash my hand before I picked up a call.
Looks like pressure damage. Had something similar with a htc touch. Looked like a oil like fluid within the screen. Amazingly the screen works still great. But the touch had a resistive screen, the sgs ones is capacitive. This in mind I don't know if it could be the same problem.

Of course I am NOT seeing the dot matrix of the digitizer for touch.
Just asking... Seems to be a common misconception
That is covered under htc's warranty but I don't see how dust got under when the lcd is laminated to the digitizer, theres no gap from what I can tell but I could be wrong. Either way it should be covered

every DHD I've seen (5) had dust between digitizer and lcd.
It's supposed to happen with lcd screens don't worry. They're charged, and therefore attract charged particles like dust. Try rubbing it with a lint free cloth
No,the dust is between the lcd and the digitizer so the cloth won't do!

Dude, dust under the screen is NOT supposed to happen, they are SEALED together in a dust free facility. Or what is supposed to be dust free
Dust UNDER the digitizer is a valid reason for a replacement.

Ive had my DHD for about 4 months now maybe more .....theres no dust under my screen.....checked it just now with a Led torch....and i dont keep it in a case and it aways resides in my pocket next to my snotty tissues
There have been reports of dust under the digitiser on many HTC phones, typically around the side-mounted volume controls. Is this where the dust seems to be penetrating?
I've had this issue on my Topaz since around 1 month after buying it. I keep my DHD in a leather pouch, though, so I can't comment on penetration with this phone.
I have 1 bit under my screen. Been there since I got it. Only visible with screen off in sun light so I just live with it... I've customised my phone far too much to live without it for a few weeks while it's with HTC for repair! I'll wait until a bigger issue appears.

One day after I got my DHD (EU) it has a little piece of dust/lint in the screen.
You can see it when the screen is off, when the screen is on, you can only see it with bright pictures or white screen.
But im in the same case as suntung, I don't want to loose my DHD, I can't miss it!
I already tried to put my DHD on my mouth, and suck air out of the phone, with the hope I could suck the dust away, but sadly it didn't work.
Hello guys.
I've got a minor but a really annoying problem with my DHD screen. Sometimes i just cant slide my fingers over the screen. Its because the screen is too much sticky. Sometimes (p.e. in cold weather) the screen slides just OK but 60% of time its pretty ****ty. Sometimes it makes web brosing really annoying and gaming impossible. Has anyone encounered the same problem? Any solution, opinion, post is appreciated
PS: Some display cover (invShield) should fix it but i dont like to have something that degrades the picture quality of the screen - hate bubbles...

Its your finger, do you moisturise a lot?
Well, if you mean that i sweat a lot, i'd say no... I tried to dry my fingers, superclean them, superclean the screen...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Does the screen "stick" when you run the back or your hand over the screen?
I didn't mean sweat, more like lotions & creams that will make your skin soft.
Them dirty sites?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I get this exact same problem too! Sometimes when it's cold (not only though), i find it hard to slide my finger properly. It sucks when trying to play fruit ninja!
Anyone know of a solution? I doubt my fingers need moisturising
No, i dont use any moisturisers and while sliding joints over the screen, it slides just ok... However yesterday i borrowed my phone to a friend and he told me, that his fingers slides bad also... So probably its my fingers, but im not the onlyone who have/would have this issue...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Moisturising your fingers will cause this!
Try rubbing your hands & fingers with an alcohol/ethanol based hand cleanser.
To be honest i think it's the screen surface used by HTC that sometimes causes this. My brother has an iPod touch and i've never experienced the same thing.
Use a screenprotector?
Cleaning your finger is the opposite of what you need to do. in order for your finger to slide well you need a certain amount of lubrication, the grease from your skin will usually provide this.
As a general rule of thumb people will have a little "extra" grease on their forehead and bridge of nose because we dont tend to touch that area throughout the day. If you are having trouble just run your finger along your hairline
Sounds a bit gross, but there you have it.
Edit:
In my experience cleaning your screen with any kind of solution unless it is actually grimy is counterproductive, a quick buff with a microfiber cloth to remove dust and visible streaks is enough and leaves a sufficient amount of oil on the screen to ease sliding.
Thanks, JB! Gonna try till tomorrow, then i'll let you know if it gets better!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It's moisture making fingers more grippy, not a lack of oils
Personally I hate the rainbow effect oils on the screen create

Get a screen protector, they generally slide better than bare screen.
I get that too,and sometimes when i press the screen to add a widget nothing happens, i have to change screen then go back and it works lol
Well, problem solved. But it wasnt my finger which needed lubrication. When i lubricated my fingers by 'my nose' as JB recommended it did nohting but a greasy line across the screen. However when i cleaned it by microfiber cloth, the grease spreaded over the screen surface and my thumb now slides like a dream! And the display is more responsive even to simple touches. So - problem solved! Clean finger and lubricated screen.
Thank y'all!
(Yeah primitive solution - should have found by myself)

I recommend you an ORIGINAL screen protectors. Chinese ones are very bad, and maybe is worst than without it (in terms of your problem while dragging a finger)
Idd, you should get an anti-glare screenprotector that also works vs fingerprints, i got one a few days ago and its heaven! your finger slides so smooth over the screen and it barely leaves fingerprints behind and ofc the anti glare is rly nice to have aswell.
edit: this is the one that I use, even tho its a dutch site, its rly good and fits perfectly, and when I putted it on my DHD it didnt leave 1 bubble

Hi!
Is it just me or is it freaking IMPOSSIBLE to use the touch on the Xperia X10 when you have just slightly like swetty fingers? If theres just a little water on the screen the touch goes banana crazy and it takes a while for you to even unlock the lockscreen. Is that just my phone or is it like that for everyone?
I've also had this problem i come back from football with sweaty fingers and its near impossible i wouldn't even try to text someone
That's a problem for EVERY capacitive touchscreen, not only for the x10. Water makes it impossible for the screen to recognize touches correctly because every drop is recognized as a touch. Just google capacitive touch screen to learn more about how this technology works.

It sucks if you have sweaty palm syndrome, which I have . Even the smallest of stimulation of fingers and my whole hand starts sweating, meaning every time I use the X10 my hand sweats and the screen spazzes

Resistive screens worked with pressure, so it's only normal that water and moist didn't make a difference.

the "installation" for this screen protector is to use water and then let it dry about a day. i think thats the reason that my sweaty plams work.

Now that you mention it .... I've been having issues with some games (fps , 3rd person shooters) where my character would randomly spin 180 or the gun reticue would jitter. Thinking about what you mentioned makes me believe my cheap screen protector (Duracell .. dry install) is the issue. Going to remove it and see how it plays . Thanks for your insight !
UPDATE !
The issues I was having with both Shadowgun and Dead Trigger was my cheap screen protectors ! No more jitter or random movement of my reticule. Thanks again for reminding me that going the cheap route isn't always the best thing to do. :victory:

Sent from my ADR6350 using xda app-developers app
if its not registering your presses, then you need to make sure you've cleaned any grease/fingerprints off the screen.
the screen is capacitive, which means it reads your touches by changes in the electrostatic field on the screen as you move your finger across it. grease is a non-conductor and can weaken the electrostatic field around the display by acting as an insulator, which will reduce the sensitivity of the display to touch.
the screen protector on my nexus 7 works fine.
If you haven't let the water/solution dry properly, it may not register touches correctly.
