This is a problem people don't seem to realize with the grey market. If the manufacturer doesn't sell it in your region of the world, they do not have to honor the warranty. Sometimes they do for good public relations but they don't have to. Just because you can find sites on the internet that will sell you a product does not mean that it is for your region and can leave you with no means of resolving any problems that come up with the item you purchased.

Starting a Petition and contacting Ministry of Consumer Electronics Canada

Hello All, as many of you know i have had one of the famous bricked samsung galaxy i9000. Since Bell wont honour my proposal for returning my Cell phone with a receipt (not under my name), i have come to the conclusion that we need action. Below is a site i am going to contact, based out of toronto, if enough people call, we can get this "defective issue" known.

We need to make Samsung honour their corporation competencies and aknowledge that not EVERYONE will be on contract with BELL. We must take action. I am requesting help from ALL those affected.

Another resource you may want to tap into is the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services (http://www.ccts-cprst.ca/complaints/service-providers). They are a third party that attempt to resolve complaints against wireless providers.
Not sure if it applies to you, but take it for what it's worth.
Count me in dude!!! Im tired of not being listened to about my issues with my $500.00 "not fit for purpose" phone!!!
I believe that we not just go after Bell but Samsung as well!!!

I have the full receipt for my phone and everything, the phone was deactivated and the number is not in service. However, the only thing connected to the current user is a IMEI, which i had called the person who owned it, they didnt know english very well and wouldnt transfer the ownership to me.
This is a flaw in the system.
I am starting a petition to make Samsung and Bell aware that the first batch and alot of the I900m Bell devices have a Internal SD hardware problem. This is a defect, we have witnessed of up to 30% returns on these phones because of this defect alone.
The fact that Bell wont honour their warranty with samsung because of a simple (not having my name) on the receipt is trivial. I had a copy printed out. Samsung needs to recall these devices or at the very least acknowledge something here.
30% failure? Where is that figure from?
And have you tried arguing with Bell for a repair? Or did they simply say no, and you gave up? Did you try to escalate?
By law, you should be able to go to your consumer affairs place anyway, and tell them that Bell wont accept your receipt. I don't think you need a petition.

By the way, when you say return, do you mean repair? Because by law in most countries, they don't have to offer refunds outside the first 2 weeks if the unit is faulty.

i have the receipt but the purchaser of my phone was friend who has now moved to new york. I have no contact with him. And by law bell has to honour its warranty code of conduct, if there is a recepit available.
I am going back tommrow to talk to the http://www.bell.ca/shopping/en_CA_ON.Samsung-Galaxywith-Google/69236.details of the store, any tips or suggestions are welcome. I have read people have returned phones even WITHOUT a receipt...and look, oh i HAVE one.....interesting.

That didn't really answer anything.. If you have a receipt, argue with them again, or go consumer affairs, but their warranty code only likely covers REPAIRING!
Do you mean repair or return and where is that 30% failure figure from? By law, they don't need to refund you, unless you have tried replacing it a few times and the problem keeps reoccurring (and you can prove the product is seriously flawed).

according to Bell it was about 20%-30% of phones were brought back. That is why Samsung held off on the 2nd batch of shipments to fix the internal sd problem, and bells excuse was all the phones were sold out, when really there was a huge backorder.
thanks for clarifiying bud. I do mean Repair. I have the receipt and everything from the folks who bought the phone, the only problem is the receipt is not in MY name. however, i tried contacting the people who had orginally purchased the phone and they wont do anything for me. They dont speak english. So i am going today to argue with the manager of Bell at my mall and tell him that this is straight up bs. Becuase i have all of the required information, the account cancelled their service and got a new phone...ugh its just such a tight situation.

I don't know how these things work in Canada, but in Australia a petition is really not going to sway a legal argument. In fact it could prejudice a case, in some circumstances.
I suggest you take the matter up with Bell again. Then talk to Consumer Affairs yourself.
Shouldn't Samsung be your point of contact BTW? I would assume since you have no contract with Bell they should be absolved of any responsibility to service your phone.
In this case the manufacturer would be the people to contact. In 95% of the things I buy have a manufacturers warranty, not a retailers.

haha sorry about the "names" thing. I should have suspected that, i just wanted to make sure that we had a legit petition to force a class action law suit.
As for the manufacturers warranty, Apparently Samsung goes through Bell. But NOT really. Bell goes through a intermediary called Futuretec Solutions located in Toronto, Ontario. I have called samsung canada and they wont help me out at all. They keep saying "go to bell, go to bell." Well now im going to give bell a piece my mind, Bell is the only company to carry these phones, thus if there is a problem no one can go elsewhere. its bs. im pretty pissed off and going to show Bell that, yesterday i didnt, but today ill talk to the manager.

Attention:
To all who have a internal sd card error and have bought the phone around the release date or afterwards. If you dont have a orginal receipt, go to bell and try to find a service rep who looks kind of new. From there tell them you dont have the receipt and need they might be able to print you out one. I got mine printed out and i went to another Bell Store to get mine sent out even though the phone was NOT under my name. I think the only way to get peoples phones fixed is talking to the right people.
I contacted the Ministry of consumer electronics AND telecommunications services to file a complaint, but i cannot as i am not a BELL member. If anyone is a Bell member and has a 2nd hand phone you can call them to file a complaint, and theyll act as a intermediary between you and Bell. ill keep updating this thread as i find information

Samsung terrible support

So I am experiencing weird charging problems on my Note N7000 described by many ppl in various places. And this is my correspondence to Samsung and their response. I guess no matter how wonderful things they make - stay away if you travel or can't wait for them to come to your country. Samsung's vision of global village.....

For starters - neither of them solved my problem. Also - the second one was required only to get this e-mail address after only 35 minutes on hold....
Anyways - I have an INTERNATIONAL version of Galaxy Note (GT-N7000). The phone was manufactured without SIM lock, with INTERNATIONAL in the name, implying that it can be used INTERNATIONALLY. Since it resides in Canada now I called Samsung Canada to get it repaired. (all details should be in the tickets hopefully - in a nutshell the phone is exhibiting very weird behaviour once it is connected to a wall charger, please, call or e-mail me if the details in the ticket(s) are unclear). Through a bit of research I established that this behaviour is not isolated to my unit only as I found multiple posts on various technology related forums about similar anomaly.
By calling your support line I learned some valuable lessons that might dictate my future purchasing decisins:
1. Even though there are thousands of people in Southern Ontario using various models of Samsung mobile products one has to ship the phone to Quebec for anyone even to take a look at the issue.
2. Global company like Samsung does not honour warranties for the products purchased outside of country of residence even though the Internet allows for free exchange of goods even when big telecommunications corporations artificially try to block certain products from different markets for marketing purposes (seems like they have full unconditional backing in doing so from Samsung)
3. I stopped wondering why superior product features lose ground to outdated technologies marketed by Apple - all that matters is customer satisfaction.... My daughters iPhone started "freezing", one quick visit in the Apple store resulted in the instant phone exchange... By the way - the iPhone was purchased in the United States and the exchange occurred in Canada. All that was needed was the serial number to confirm the warranty.
Well - my Note was manufactured in October 2011 so I believe it is not one year since then. I do not understand why I am hitting obstacles trying to get your product fixed just because I purchased it before it was available in my country.
I hope that this communication will open someone's eyes and will help to resolve my issue in acceptable manner as well as will change the overall customers' experience with Samsung.
Please, contact me via e-mail or phone (number in the signature) if you have any questions in that matter. And of course I would like to see some kind of answer if you do not need any additional information.

Unfortunately, phones do not have an international warranty, so a service centre in Canada would not be able to perform an in-warranty repair. For warranty support, you would need to contact the original purchase location.

That still sux... Especially that this is a common problem, not one-of.

Samsung UK Service Centre

Samsung has officially confirm that they will not honor any warranty they can see the Knox software being tripped, as in my case today.
They will not replace or repair any phone that has this status on the screen, as this is a directive from Samsung HQ.
Clarification from Samsung UK at last then. Bugger :crying:
Takes UK rooting to a whole new level then, especially with the amount of defective devices there has already been floating around. 0x1 is certainly a risk now more than ever.. especially if they won't fulfil any fixes even if you choose to pay.

Also, I've come to the conclusion that Samsung do UK repairs through third party shops (from when I looked for one in my city York), therefore they decide on what they will and will not repair given on Samsung's original advice it seems.
Nope direct words from the technical engineer at Samsung service center at Stratford Westfield I also have a the following email.
Regarding your Note 3, we have done some investigating into the fault and it turns out that the device has what we call, been rooted. This means that un official software has been loaded onto the device and in the end this results in the voiding of the warranty.
Please feel free to come and collect the handset but i am sorry to deliver the bad news.

european law will take precedence ....you may have to fight for it but they can't refuse to honour the warranty unless they can prove rooting and installing a rom has broken the phone

Right... this is an ideal case for the UK small claims court. It can all be done online, and the process does work.

Samsung (and their peers) need to be told that EU law trumps their stupid unfair warranty rules.
The claim will actually be against the retailer, since it is with them that you have a contract, so you need to (rather unfairly) go after the shop or the service provider who sold you the phone.
I believe the process costs around £40, and I dont think you need to attend court in person.
A friend of mine successfully went through this process with the provider Three UK when he couldnt get HTC to repair the camera that had cracked on his phone. He won a judgement against Three for the full (unlocked) value of the handset, and got the money.
If this can be successfully done, and documented, it will start to set a precedent that unrelated hardware faults cannot be excluded from warranty rights (actually statuary rights in the EU) due to rooting, or any other software mod.
I strongly urge you to follow this course, for the good of the many (as well as yourself).

Is what I said here or in another thread (theres a lot around this currently). The warranty in the UK lays with the seller be it carrier, P4U or CPW or somewhere else. - 9 out of 10 times they'll fix/replace anyway. It's just Samsung themselves that are being stubborn (Samsung don't sell phones directly to consumer in the UK for whatever reason..). - It's all about not taking no for an answer more than anything.
I will write to Samsung UK and give them 14 days to refund the full amount I paid for a new phone. After that I will seek action from a small claims court, lets see what they say now

Considering the EFS partition on this device is so fragile and will brick if you so much as sneeze on it, I am starting to regret tripping my knox.
Sure Samsung have no right to supersede EU law but you will have to go through so much hassle just to get them to honour their warranty.
Everyday when I use my Note 3 I always expect the WiFi to suddenly stop working, or the IMEI to disappear, or the device to start rebooting randomly. There are just so many reports of these problems randomly happening and add that to Samsung's stupid idea of 0x1 making your warranty invalid, I feel like I have wasted so much money. Sure this is a great device, but for how long will that last!

Actually, I think that you're wrong here. You guys in the EU have the advantage that law is on your side. Your disadvantage is that as individuals you're small and inconsequential. Thus Samsung as a Multi-Billion dollar corporation can give each and every one of you sh*t without worrying about it.
You're phone provider, on the other hand, is NOT a small and inconsequential individual. So if you all start to sue P4U or CPW how long do you think it will be before those companies start questioning Samsung?
Especially when the actual text states "Knox Warranty Void" NOT 'Device Warranty Void"
Ultimately this will benefit those who don't have the umbrella of EU law.

RMA not replying in Europe?

Basicly inside European regulation, we have the right to have RMA support during the next 2 years.

SM-G9287 Registration for Warranty Coverage?

To get covered under 1 yr warranty from manufacture we have to register this product for coverage. Companies like cpscentral and portectyourbubble who cover drop,spill and other things say that for the first year if any malfunction happens we have to reach out to Samsung.Problem is that I am not seeing a way to register this product as I am not sure which Samsung site to use to register.
Google search says this model is released from Taiwan so should be go that site to register? I cant give any Taiwan Address to register as I don't leave there. The seller from ebay didnt respond to the question so i am kind unsure what to do. Any Ideas?
(Square trade charges 138 dollars per year to cover accidental drop and spills for phones bought from ebay which is very high and its better to use that money for repair in case the unfortunate event happens)
