CM7 Kernel - Governors not working as they should - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.....
I'm using the GB Kernel and want to ask if anyone noted about the non-working governors ?
Especially the conservative governor (it feels like performance to me)

Anyone ?

No I don't care if you're anti-Apple.

i think, it's better to measure it. "cpu spy" or something like this.

[Q] How to install hastarin's 7.6 kernel??

Hi dear!
I try to install Mdeejay's Froyo Sense v.3.1 but people said this version will be
much faster and smooth with hastarin's 7.6 kernel.
However, I don't know how to install only the kernal apart from android rom.
Can anybody help or explain me how to install it ?
and.. can anybody give me the link to download hastarin's 7.6 kernel?
Thank you.
Wow, ok...since you're new:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787588
But try search next time. See hastarin's readme.txt included in the folder when you download it. It'll walk you through the process.
Thanks man.
Yeah I'm new.. haha
Which one do u prefer to use, overclocking or not?

Not really. Besides, you can always make a profile in setcpu to lower the clock speed if it becomes too hot, if you're worried about it.

Can't say. I've personally not compared them. I just prefer to have to option to overclock or not, but I always do.

[Q] Is it possible to overclock above 768mhz?

just curious really as my phone never gets warm or anything running at 768mhz the battery life is also pretty good.
hey,
i don´t think so, because in the worst case your phone will take damage. But this ~770 mhz are about 250 more then before. Im happy with this xDDD
that is true haha, i just dont see it doing much harm if the phone will run stable higher at the same voltage or the tiniest bit higher
No, that's the limit of the MSM7225. (Achieved by adjusting the PLL to its max, any higher will overrun the limits of the chip, and cause it to most likely fail)
i would like to know, if its very bad for the phone, if you let it permanently run with full speed. Ok, if it will get very hot.. thats clear, but is it bad if you have the 77mhz and it is for example in silent mode, or when you listen to some music. Should you ever take some possible speed away, if its not need? (thx)
The hardware life will probably be reduced. By how much, it cannot be said definitively, but, I am pretty sure that by the time the hardware fails because of overclocking, the phone will have been retired long back.
What you are requesting (Dynamically changing speed) is exactly what Speed Governors (Performance, Internative, OnDemand etc) do. If you are on CM7, use Smartass Governor, because it's the "smartest". If not, then use Interactive governor.
i use ginger yoshi... and sometimes it sais that the sd was removed. Could overclock be a reason for this?
I dont think so. I got the same issue once, and formatting the SDCard fixed it.
ok i will try it thanks

To use overclocking and governers on sense roms, oc kernel and application like setcpu are must. Setcpu has governers too.

Yes, it does, and it is overclocked to 710 MHz, by default.

Voting for adding "smartass" governor to i9000 froyo/gingerbread kernels

hi guys..
i opened this thread in order to hopefully urge all developers, and kernel developers in particular, to consider adding the "smartass" governor to the list of cpu governors already available...
before anyone asks, here's what the governor developer said about it:
Technical Details-originally posted by erasmux :
smartass governor is based on the concept of the interactive governor. I have always agreed that in theory the way interactive works -by taking over the idle loop -is very attractive. I have never managed to tweak it so it would behave decently in real life. Smartass is a complete rewrite of the code plus more. I think its a success. Performance is on par with the "old" minmax and I think smartass is a bit more responsive. Battery life is hard to quantify precisely but it does spend much more time at the lower frequencies. Smartass will also cap the max frequency when sleeping to 352Mhz (or if your min frequency is higher than 352 -why?! -it will cap it to your min frequency). Lets take for example the 528/176 kernel, it will sleep at 352/176. No need for sleep profiles any more!
also here's more on other governors in addition to the smartass governor in this thread
so what is this about??
"almost" all kernels available for samsung phones are missing this governor, and as some might think "hey, we don't need it..".. well i also own a samsung vibrant, and one of the devs there (ECOTOX) was so kind to add the goveror to his existing kernel called "SuperDragonModz", and the result was fanf*ck*ntastic.
here's what one of the guys at the kernel's thread had to say about it:

Eco, omg. Wtf. This new governor ands native functions if the kernel are simply amazing.
Smartass is so fast and efficient! ! !
Way better than conservative or on demand, one is schitzy ands the other is too battery strenuous.

i had owned a few HTC Android phones in the past couple of years, and all the kernels there have smartass.. i don't think the devs there add it for no reason!!
this is about spreading the "smartass culture" among samsung rom/kernel developers..
what do you guys think?
I don't know enough about it but what you have detailed there makes me think it's a good idea.

You should be using it now, your sig says you own a htc hero, i'v had one in the past, smartass was one of the reasons the phone was so fast(for a hero), and yet battery efficient..

Most kernels for i9000 dont have smartass, so probably its only because few people know that they like it or not. Or the thread title is intriguing for people that dont know its a cpu governor hahaha
glitch use it in his cm7 kernel, and that is by far the fastest kernel available for the sgs

Yeah some cm7 kernels have smartass, but almost no samsung kernel has it.. Only SuperDragonModz for the vibrant.. We need i9000 kernels to support it to get the most out of our devices..
Perhaps changing the thread title might help, there's already too many smartarses on here

i hope this gets attention from devs, hopefully by the next update(s) for froyo/gingerbread kernels we'll start to see something from the devs..
Its already in talon kernel, you just have to go and change it to smartass in the configuration files.

Kernel/ROM etc.... features that we need

this thread is meant for everyone thats making a kernel or ROM so you know what features that everyone wants
The things we need
ROOT duh

NTFS FS support
CPU Governors
GPU Governors
GPU overclocking
CPU overclocking
RAM overclocking if we can
Dual boot ROM/Kernels and 64bit Ubuntu
any more ideas?

Tuff luck! Its what others like :good:
PIE control
Most important one.. Stability. Needs to be stable, and have a few minor tweaks, it all depends on how the stock kernel is though.. HTC Stock kernels tend to be pretty sweet anyway and just need a few features added IMO.
Have been told that the CPU is way under clocked @2.3,GHz and could handle 3.00ghz easy! Note that this is a rumour, but if true wow!
Really looking forward to it now!
Um everything you listed is stuff that is the norm for custom kernels. Wonder if well see Franco or faux or flar here...im still really on the fence.

At the price probably only if the device is donated. I'm sure the size is off putting for them.
USB-OTG and USB-Audio support would be stellar (if not included as standard)
:good:
I would love to see the GPU and CPU overclocking as well as over/under volt for both for maximum tuning capability. The other things I would like to see though are RAM and bus overclocking access since with so many GPU cores if we get to overclocking we may need some more in those areas too so we can take full advantage of the higher core MHz

At that time I din't know anything about this phone, becouse I just had buyed it, then I started spending 8hrs in the computer to study kernels, redmi 2, and all related to source, android, etc. Then I started making overclocks, and after 2 weeks of testing I completed my results and overclock was fake.
It's like school or college, you need to study to understand
Which ROM is best to be used with late autumn kernel. When I install late autumn kernel on any ROM ,the camera stops working.

Sounds like a stage I'm currently going through, are there any recommended resources for learning?
The main direction is to reverse the kernel code for the purpose of changing system settings
