welcome to the club

Congraulations man, you'll have a lot of fun with your new toy!
Sent from my Galaxy Note

One thing I Just found out recently that you'll find to be quite funny yet useful is to swipe the side of your hand from one corner to the other corner and this takes a screenshot of the screen.
Random I know but it's funny.
P.S. Welcome to the club. Install ODIN and update to the LA4 stock rom from Germany (it's not rooted, just a normal official stock ROM that is surprisingly smooth)!

Ever heard of this one?
In the car (NOT a mobile dock), this doesn't happen all the time, about 1-2 times
a day...I unplug the Note, power off the screen, slip it into my pouch case (no magnets or anything), CAREFULLY making sure I don't touch anything. After
I exit the car, I hear the "camera sound", and when I look later, it took a screen
capture of the lock screen LOL. Even though I'm not touching anything, somehow
it "sees" me wanting to make a screen capture.

Ive hade mine for two weeks now, is there any good threads to read like stuff running in the background that is unnecessary and can be killed to save ram/battery? I got CheckRom on mine, dunno if that already kills the unnecessary stuff but would be nice if u guys with more experience could link us newbies to unleash this beast

try this Visca and other noobs...it has helped me to

That depends if u are planning to root your phone. Which i dont regret doing that. U can install custom ROMs and there are plenty of good ones. I personally have only tried RocketRom and CheckROM Revo NoteHD V5 but my favourite is the CheckROM one..
I like the CheckROM because of the great improvement in battery life and that it doesnt have the battery draining apps that i never even used. But if u like u can always add the apps u miss with its built in Kitchen app.
So if u want to root, u should do it before u update to LA4
so if u want to root, just follow this tutorial

It's been a while since I've used ODIN, but IIRC you have to follow this order:
1) Make sure your phone is unplugged from PC and powered off.
2) Put your phone in download mode. To do this press and hold volume down+home+power simulteniously
3) Once your phone is in download mode plug it into PC and launch ODIN.
4)Follow directions for flashing posted earlier/

Well a week in, and its even better than first impressions, the battery is amazing get what i would call a days use. This is my main device now i think ive probably spent 5 hours max on my laptop in the last week

New update for Vibrant

Hello all,
I was on the phone with T-Mobile yesterday morning and their Rep. told me that they released an upgrade for Vibrant a few days ago. He gave me this link to download a program on my computer which will help me through the upgrade.
wwwtinyurl.com/kiesmini
Let me know if someone tried it already and also I am looking for a link on how to flash my phone back to stock because I am trying to restore it since yesterday but it gets stack on the 'stock' loading screen. Im currently running Axura 2.2.5.9
Thanks
Crematorio
its the Official froyo.
Its worthless stick with your latest axura nero bionix flagship whatever.
really? Tell me more details. Y is it worthless?

Well, most of the Froyo builds around the dev section are based on the official build, but with the bulk and crap stripped.
What is the best Rom atm? Is Bionix better than axura? Im kind of new to these things any help will be appreciated
Go on general section and check out my review a rom for noobs thread.
The update they gave is... Laggy... So much lag...
There is no best rom. Just try a few and see what you like. What suits you best is what you should use. I'm on flagship now, after being a long term bionix user. I'd recommend avoiding the latest bionix for now as it contains a secondary bootloader which can potentially brick your phone.

If you odin back to stock won't it remove that boot loader? I'm currently on the latest bionix and that statement sacred me

Ok i just flashed the newest Axura but i seem to have some issues. When it loads, it goes straight on the main screen. The phone is working fine but since it does not give me an option to put my sim pin my phone is unable to make or receive calls. Any hints?

This guy is saying what I am thinking.
I decided quite a while ago that I was going to read as much as possible and decide on a ROM/Dev to stick with. Mainly because IMO you run into far less problems because the dev team is working from a previous release, and they aren't going to have any thing that conflicts with their own stuff when upgrading. Went from Nero v4.1 to v5 to bionix and have had zero issues.
The only time I ever had a problem was when I tried to use that miserable mini Kies to flash the stock 2.2 release. HUGE mistake.

shutphone off, take battery out, pull out the sim card, and reinsert it again. install battery, and power on phone.
it happens to me sometimes, I just do the steps above and it works.

I was on axura 2.2.5.9 and flashed back to stock and installed 2.2 via minikies and played with it for a day. Nothing 'wow' about it at all. Infact everything about it felt slower.
Flashed back to axura and loaded 2.2.7.1 and was really amazed at how fast and cool it is. Awesome boot up/shut down screen and and the app drawer isnt filled with crap I never use.
Mods are so much better compared to stock. Check out the review on Axura 2.2.7 by Devs4Android on YouTube.

[GUIDE] Flash Darkyy's ROM on your Vibrant - INCLUDES PROBLEMS

DARKYY'S ROM FOR SGS VIBRANT
Darky made his ROM flashable for ALL SGS series.
Don't just flash this like ANY OTHER ROM.
*WARNING IF YOU DON'T READ THIS WHOLE THREAD YOU WILL SOFT/HARD BRICK*
FIRSTLY, download this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.darkyrom.darkyconfig
It's called the "DARKYROM CONFIGURATOR" its in the market.
In the App, make sure that these are the settings,
The Modem and Kernel, set them both to NO MODEM, and , SKIP KERNEL
Now download the ROM, and put it in your SD Card.
Go back into Darkyrom config. App.
Now click menu, then SELECT ZIP AND FLASH
It will ask for SuperUser allow it.
It will now boot into Recovery and start Flashing it, it will take a while its a 250MB file.
After flashing is done, it will take a longer-than-usual time to reboot.
It will open.
If you see your PREVIOUS ROM WALLPAPER, SETTINGS ETC...
boot into recovery by using power button, and wipe/factory reset.
Now it should be okay..
-NOTE-
you do NOT have to disable voodoo, well, i didn't and i'm having no problems because of that.
*PROBLEMS*
It Sometimes Randomly reboots, but gives a vibrate as a warning?
It randomly vibrates sometimes... but doesn't always reboot.
Some people may experience all the SD Card Wiped or their music/gallery/etc erased
I will upload some pictures in the second post, through the phone it self.

there's no way around it guys... you're going to get soft reboots when your signal hits about -80dbm
Yeah theres no other problems besides that. I've asked Darkyy to try and help us out, he's probably sleeping right now, so i'll let you guys know.
Keep in mind this is a i9000 ROM
Its a miracle it works universally.
He pmed me he's working on improving it for other variants and keep in mind this is a BETA !

Wiping solves some problems ull face. Trust me.
Nice of you to start a topic.
The RESTART/Vibrate bug you are refering to is the SAME bug that Jellette/Heathen was experiencing when he was trying to port an i9000 ROM in Ragnarok. He tracked the issue to be caused by the signal. Yes, the SIGNAL strength of the network causes the reboot. It happens when this signal reaches a certain value. Then phone goes crazy and reboots. That's about it. There is still no known solutions to this.
HOWEVER, Eugene beleives he found the file and settings which are causing it. I have PMed Darkyy and he will be looking into the issue when he's back from vacation (currently hes heading out for a few days). I believe jellette/Heathen may also be working on the issue once he gets his replacement phone.
I hope this helps. And yes. Darkyy' ROM is FAMOUS. I don't need to say more about it haha. When/if it works, it will be AMAZING.
If other devs want to jump on this to try and fix it, it would be very very appreciated. This ROM is just too good to pass up
Not to mention, ALL themes from the I9000 forums WILL work with this after it is working on our Vibrants. Go take a look at the I9000 forum, there are literally TENS upon TENS of amazing themes for it.
For the email FCs, it was enough to wipe its data in TitaniumBackup. however, I had issues receiving calls till I wiped/factory reset my phone. Very satisfied so far.

how long is the longer than usual? i tried it last night and i guess it got stuck on a bootloop and kept vibrating too in the bootanimation "darky's rom" for about half and hour
I tried 9.2 extreme edition when it first came out. Super fast, I really liked the presentation, pulled out all the stops with animations and transparent elements sprinkled around. Couldn't get over the nagging bugs though, like the capacitive buttons being mapped all wack, didn't have an effective home button, both home and back functioned like the back button. Also the volume was reversed, and I didn't have sound in certain apps. Also had to flash a US modem, you should mention that in your post, I know it say's choose no modem, but you should mention later to flash one that works.
Used it for a few days like that actually, because it was still super slick and useable...even without the home button lol. But I didn't see it randomly reboot even once.

anyone else in a state of mental bootloop

I like many of you enjoy flashing custom roms, kernals themes etc and a big thanks to the devs and individuals for making it possible... Ive noticed lately im not really having any fun with my galaxy s2.
I seem to be in a mental bootloop of flashing apk's, tweaks and other little things to improve my toys userbility. cant seem to explore android market or other app markets for anything other than tweaks for this or add-ons to improve noise reduction blahblahblah its endless.
my phone out of the box stock was just brilliant and fun, now that ive rooted it, themed it and just made it to my everyday liking i cant be bothered to look for games or random apps that put a cheeky grin on my face anymore.
I know theres plenty out there to download i read about them in the forum all the time.

il flash cm9 for a daily when its a bit more stable to my own satisfaction nice rom bit laggy/buggy for me at the mo
oh yeah as stated with the sarcastic remarks you have only focused on the fact i called it a toy not a tool/phone whatever it didnt really answer the question i was asking, id say a majority of gs2 owners dont use it for its full potential
but my reply isnt to defend what context i have written and what i refer my phone to. the quesion is for people who dont take it too seriously as a smartphone and just want to have a bit of fun with it wether it be for music or games .....

Part of the appeal of getting a new phone is setting it up and exploring whats new.
I think thats what sucks people into flashing so much.
From what ive seen most changes/roms are bugger all and the hype isn't justified and in the end it's a phone, goes into your pocket and you get on with your life.

Yup, I tend to agree. I just spent most of the day setting up a Motorola Defy for a relative. It took me about 10 minutes to do what would have taken him weeks of reading (and he's a techie guy, just not up to speed with android).
Now running CM7 with root and stuff, it just doesn't need touched. I put on a self-build of it, and that will probably last him 2 years or something! Maybe I'll pop ICS/CM9 on it when the time comes, but it's a set and forget
I see my own phone a bit like that - I tend to build a ROM, test for a few days, perhaps release, then run it for 3 months or more
Ways to solve it
I had bootloops on my phone, a couple of days ago, and have tried several other methods to resolve the problem, but to no avail (for example, taking out the battery and letting it cool for a couple of minutes). If you have made backups using Nandroid backup, you should be able to restore your phone. If not, you will have to flash a stock kernel onto your phone and install a custom ROM after that. That's what I did since i did not have any backups made.
lol did you get the topic of this thread?
I've found that i can't find my "perfect setup" wen i start flashing roms as theirs always another one with something slightly better or more interesting that I need to try out or flash. At this current time the major temptation being ics. Which is what I'm currently running :L
I tried sticking on stock-ish firmware (checkrom) but its just to hard :/

Because there will always be the overwhelming majority that will think; "Oh, this CM9/AOKP is really neat, very customisable - but do I want video cam or not!?" - and then back and forth flashing ensues.

My Big blunder

What y'day i did was i thing biggest blunder ever i caused on android.
Here is story
My friend came to me to get update to ICS for his device SGS 2.
I have done lots of flashing/rooting so it was not a big task for me, just i have asked abt his device and i have downloaded require ICS ROM for his device.
I have flashed it with odin
it was failed.
I have retry again fail
Lost recovery as well download mode too.
I was confidient (N over smart)
used JIG to get into download mode
find out pit file and flashed it
find out boot loader and flashed it
Nothing nothing it was semi bricked
Downloaded GB ROM and flashed
Fail, here i exhausted
And ask my friend are you sure your device is i9100 and not the varient?
he : yes it is i9100G
ME : then wtf you said it is i9100 when i have asked you at starting of procedure
He: but you said digit is same, so i think 'G' have no meaning
Me : 'G' is same important as g-sp*t
Then i got perspirated, and badly searched for correct pit (Here really i can say Note forum is much organised)
after 2hrs of search i found correct pit N bootloader (i think bootloader is almost same) but it was abt 3am and battery was emptied
Again in morning managed battery and flashed correct pit
then stcok GB and then ICS
and phone wokeup after a full night of deep sleep But Now i need a good sleep. But thnx God at last everything is fine.
Moral :
Confidence is good to have, but over confidence can kill U
Never trust any person who is not enough sound, N always check urself before flashing/modding(Look before you leap!! perfectly said dennis )
Interesting and useful experience sharing! Thanks.
there's a lesson for us all in that tale Dr Ketan!
Look before you leap!!
dennis
wow~.... your friend nearly killed his device by withholding that tiny bit of info... lol
Glad to see you recovered it for him
That happened with me. When in december last year i got my sgs2 at that time i was not aware if there is i9100g is present in the market.
So for rooting purpose i had to download insecure kernel or an older rom.
I flashed a i9100 and was stuck at samsung logo.
After that i researched here about it and found out thelat samsung screwed me.
Nice,
Moral..... Don't bother to play with others device...

that be true ,when I had my s2 I found it hard to learn anything ,too much info all over the place .
here it's much easier to find what you're looking for

And ask my friend are you sure your device is i9100 and not the varient?
he : yes it is i9100G
ME : then wtf you said it is i9100 when i have asked you at starting of procedure
He: but you said digit is same, so i think 'G' have no meaning

ermmm ...how did you miss the big 19100G below the samsung logo?! I'm sure I've seen a G variant before and it stated 19100G on boot.
anyway your story is a good reminder that even if you are a pro you need to double check everything
thanks for sharing

I guess we should check it from now on.
to be honest I also made a mistake with my friend's S2 ,though not that big but still, I rooted and installed CM9 all the while talking about nandroid backup and that he shouldn't worry about loosing his stuff cause a nandroid restore will return them all
in the end he wanted to go back to GB ,so I rebooted into recovery and viola it hit me like a train that I forgot to make a nandroid backup in the first place lol.
mistakes do happen it seems ,but one should learn from them so as not to repeat them .
Well try to flash the software for engine of a ferrary on a fiat...
wwwrrrouuuuummmmmm or brick - that's the question.
Nothing is more funny than real life.
@Mr.Change
Ya once it mistake, but repeat of mistake is stupidity.
Though it was misunderstanding, but i believe it was my blunder, b'coz i shudn't have to rely on his answer. if he is sound then why wud he come to me for just flashing, thats why i cudn't sleep for half night.
I had similar situation, i ordered and payed a i9100, who came with the mail and my first look on the box?
"Hm what's with the G letter, what this means?!"
Google straight away - and guess what? Completly different as Samsung said improved phone but do i need G version? No, i dont cause i suspected that most of the custom roms will be build for original i9100.
I spand half of my day explainin a guy who sold me the phone that this isn't phone that i ordered!
At the end i asked: Do you have Galaxy Note? He said yes i do, excellent i'm coming to get it
So guys be careful when you're buyin or flashin phone

About s3

Hello guys, i am thinking of changing my motorola razr maxx into galaxy s3 and i would like to ask if it stands up to the price?
Is it good phone or not?
And i found one used for 3-4 months by a guy and it is reasonably priced and still looks shiny (no scratches and stuff). So the question is what i should check before i hand over the money for the phone, so i don't get scammed by broken or in any other way ruined device?

The S3 is an awesome phone, and well worth the price imo.
Some things to check before you buy it is the obvious, will it switch on, are there any signs of physical damage ect, but you should also check your own sim card in the phone, if for example the phone is stolen and has been reported to the network your sim will not work in the phone.
Give it a good check over to make sure everything works, all you can't really check is battery life, because that requires time. Also check under Settings > About Phone > Status, and check whether it says the system has been modified. Then switch it off, hold Vol down, home and power then press vol up at the prompt and check what the red writing says in the top corner, if it says Custom binary downloaded yes (xx counts) ask what they have flashed.

Thanks for the fast reply. But you mentioned if system have been modified to check it by holding Vol down, home and power then press vol up at the prompt. If system is modified what kind of impact on user experience could it have? For example: Will i be able to go back so stock or flash any rom i want or maybe it could limit me in some ways?

You can go to stock, and if it has been modified I would flash something if you choose to buy it because you have no idea what he has put on it, even if it's a reputable rom or kernel he could have some script in it, I know it's a little paranoid but it's better to be safe than sorry
Of course the battery life will not satisfy you if you come from RAZR maxx but it has the most longest (well at least longer than other competitors ) battery life. Oh and performance is voila . And the s4 is releasing up coming days. So that means s3 turns into cost/performance device. So you should definitely upgrade to s3
Btw if there is a mistake with my grammar or other stuff please ignore it

Thanks guys for your opinions, i will surely upgrade to s3, so it is good to know that it is a good device. The only thing left now is to find best offer :good: and not get scammed :highfive:.
One of you guys mentioned that switching from Razr Maxx will leave me sad i think i can handle it as long as it is better than that of xperia x10 or htc desire S that i owned (they were very bad at it). However maxx lost its touch to me couse of Unlockable Bootloader and all the security features that doesnt allow to root new Jellybean update..... Which sickens me as a ROM addict the most , The main reason that i want to leave razr is actually that i upgraded to jellybean and lost root after keeping it with Voodoo ota rootkeeper so my device is now unrootable and it is worst thing that could happen to Android device
BTW which one in reality looks more awesome, the black or white colors on s3? Just asking couse i havent seen black one in person,i have seen only the white model.

The white one is better. I have the pebble blue one and it got dust under the screen and it's very noticeable while on the white you can't see it.
For the battery just get the official 3000mah extended battery. I'm getting amazing battery life!

And I have a small suggestion - after you put your own sim-card make a phone call to somebody and check how you can hear the person and if the other person can hear you well.
Heh just got myself and S3 Got it for good price and its brand new :victory: , anyway thanks for suggestions guys :highfive:.
Any suggestions for roms kernels? BTW is it possible to unlock bootloader? and is there easy way to root or i will have to use ADB manually? <---- Mod Edit: Please don't turn this into a "Best ROM" thread or it will have to be shut down.

The bootloader is not locked.
Check the original development for cf auto root to root via Odin.
On the ROM side I personally like Ultima, slim bean and CM10.1 but check them yourself, see which sounds good to you, check the last 10 posts and try the ones that seem best for you.

Well anyway, i have found this toolkit for s3 and rooted my device with installing custom recovery and installing root.zip. The tools seems very easy to use and has a lot of features aswell. However i am not in a hurry to unlock bootloader just yet. Maybe you know any debloated stock roms? Couse default one feels kinda slugish atm.
And BTW why there are two development sections? Shouldn't android development section be same as original development?

As I said the S3 bootloader doesn't need unlocking, there are a few debloated stock roms, the ones I would reccomend are Omega, Wanamlite and Ultima all can be found in the Android Development.
There are two development sections, Origianal development is mainly for projects build from source or from scratch, for example the offcial CM threads are there, Slimbean is in there, there are also threads for the various kernels, but unofficial CM, AOKP etc ports and samsung based roms are in development because they are not original.
"Best ROM" threads are NOT against the rules. They do always however turn into pissing matches and ultimately flaming starts shortly after. That is why the are frowned upon and closed.
Rules #1 is Search. You can look in the Development section and see which one you think you might like. Then read the last 10 pages for bugs. If that it the one you like, then start at the OP and read, read, read.
Development is for developing something that is of a base ROM, (i.e. stick ROM base)
Original Development is for building from source (i.e. setting up a build environment on your PC and syncing repos).

What it means? When I bought my phone I didn't hear the other person well. If the volume was more than half I didn't understand what they said. But now it ok. Can I ask you what you want to say?
