I am currently using Galaxy Nexus, its screen brightness is kind of average nowadays.... Just OK indoors and barely visible outdoors (but feels fine to me)
I tried to switch to Galaxy Note II last fall but hated its screen low brightness, it felt for me like a mirror, reflecting all that light from lamps indoors. Also, I hated fingerprints on it which were visible with the screen on.
I have just read a lot of reviews about SGS 4, that the screen brightness is even lower and it is impossible to see anything outdoors and perhaps it has the same problems of reflecting lights that I hated with Note 2.
Sorry for my English, I hope you understand what I mean
Was already prepared to buy SGS 4 Nexus edition but now I am really concerned about the screen
Probably going to wait for the next motorola devices
There are brighter screens out there but it's a lot better than some say. Unfortunately the auto brightness doesn't work too well which effects some people's opinion a little too easily I suspect despite the fact it's a software issue which will undoubtedly be improved.

So like the title sugests i would like to know if its posible that the note 3 can get burning of the blue subpixels after several months of usage,i want to buy this phone but for me this is a very big drawback beacuse the screen is one of the most important aspects of a smarphone.
My 3 year old SGS has the screen still intact but i can se the pixel degradation but no significant burning just when i put the blue screen i can see a liiitle ghost of the notification bar but very very very dim almost unnoticeable,i have to mention i never used the phone with maximum brightness only in direct sunlight.
I have read some threads about this fact and it seems a general ill amongst the amoled screens so what is the chance i get burning on the note 3?
Thank you!

Of course can't exist experimental proofs because Note 3 just came out but if we look at s4, can be said that it has less problems in comparison with s3. As you know it depends on many things, even your way to use is relevant..but if your GS3 lasted 3 years (or more), I think that there is no reason why a note 3 should be worse, even because Samsung put BIG efforts on those relevant aspects for the customer

The same thing is with my Samsung galaxy S. But as this is 3 years old, it is still very little noticeable (mostly noticeable while white background). I am a big fan of Super AMOLED display of Samsung as it is attractive and looks awesome. I have used my galaxy S2 for more than 2 years and I find no such signs on it. Watch videos on Amoled display and LCD display and you will find a lot of noticeable difference in them, as amoled displays are sweet.
I think it's right choice to buy note3 as 2-3 years will be nice and then the slight change will be there which will be unnoticeable.
If you still are not in favour of note 3, consider buying nexus 5 as it's feature packed and will be the first to receive next android versions.

I just yesterday picked this puppy up at BB and, quite honestly, am very disappointed in the display, specifically the hue. All the yellows are washed out -- WTF???!!
Resolution is awesome but the white background when browsing looks like I'm looking at it under old-style fluorescent lighting -- YUCK!
I've played with all the Settings > Display > Screen mode modes and there's barely a change when going from one to another.
Is this correctible? Is it a TouchWiz thing? Will a different ROM help?
(FWIW -- I'm upgrading from a Xoom running Eos ROMs and other than the resolution, it was gorgeous. The Xoom was a great device: heavy, granted, but the bezel width really did set the standard that tablet manufacturers seem to be migrating towards.)
PLEASE TELL ME THERE'S A SOLUTION!!! THE COLOR RENDITION IS SO UNPALATABLE I VERY WELL MIGHT RETURN IT AFTER LUSTING AFTER IT FOR MONTHS!
Thanks.
Sounds like a hardware problem. I don't see how Touchwiz (or any ROM) could be responsible for that. Better have it exchanged.
Sounds like you're using reading mode

Color accuracy is pretty decent on the Note 10.1’s display. As always I’m reporting color data using Samsung’s Movie mode, which remains the most accurate setting of those offered. Grayscale performance is excellent, but our GMB and saturations tests put the Note 10.1 on par with the original Nexus 7. It’s definitely a better calibrated display than any other Samsung Galaxy Note tablet we’ve reviewed. Not quite on par with the new Nexus 7, but getting very close.

My (AMOLED) N3 displaying the same yellow background as my N10.1-14...
My "whites"...
The screen on this amazing and nothing short of that.
You must have a bad tablet...
My screen is great.
I have minor light bleed on bottom edge but thats not bothersome and barely noticeable.
Never had any problems with color rendition. Not to the extent you said it sounds like. Its been pretty natural looking for me.
EDIT: Removed link, its posted two above this...
I dont know what these numbers mean but here is a comparison against a crapple ipad: http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-10.1-2014-vs-Apple-iPad-4_id3445
Don't get me wrong, I like the screen a lot. But it is not perfect. I think the pentile design shows when certain colors are next to each other (producing less than perfect transition from one color to another).

No, there's no yellow cast: rather, the yellow's are washed out and not at all vibrant. White backgrounds have a blue-ish gray-ish tone and the only analogy I can muster is that it's like the color temperature is "cool," as opposed to "warm." Canary yellows come out looking dull gold; skin tones are very off-putting and for a top-dollar device, it's really not pleasant.
Side-by-side with my GN2, the colors are much truer on my GN2, hands down.
@BarryH_GEG -- thanks for the useful post; I am using movie mode.
@bootx1 -- thank you, too, but I'm not using reading mode.
Here are some screenshots from today's XDA main page.
1st photo is from Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 ed., second is Galaxy Note 2; third is a side-by-side with the Galaxy Note 2 on the left (the dude's skin is a little reddish on the left but it's not bad -- the skin tone on the right is actually much worse).
WTF????
Thanks.

I leave both my N3 and N10.1-14 on Adapt Display. On the N3 it's the only way to achieve maximum brightness in bright conditions; like an additional 150 nits. I'm not sure if the N10.1-14's Adapt Display works the same way. I have to confess, while Movie Mode may be more accurate I've come to like overly saturated colors on my mobile devices.

To me......... In your (photo 3) side by side photo's I think the device on the left is to red and has to much color saturation the tablet looks good to me in that photo....
There is at lease 2 places in the control panel of the P-600 to adjust color, have you seen them?
If you not happy with the way it looks and you can exchange it you should. If you don't you will always have this thought in the back of your mind.
.
as another user said, it sounds like reading mode is turned on make sure it's off. It probably unlikely that this is the problem though since the the only app that defaults with reading mode on is play books.
Thank you for your responses.
I'm not quite sure how to say this without sounding impolite but several of you seem not to have read my posts completely, so please allow me to start over.
My yellows are very washed out: what ought to be bright canary yellows are dull gold. For example: the yellow in the Chrome logo is what I define as "yellow." On the GM10.1, 2014 Ed. it appears gold and dull.
Skin tones are wan and blue-ish.
White web page areas are gray-blue-ish.
Overall color temperature is "cool."
Reading mode does warm things up a bit...but still, I can't get any combination of settings where yellows "pop".
Settings > Device > Display > Screen mode is set to "movie" and that barely affects the vibrancy of the yellows; in fact there is no real difference between all four of the options.
IN SUM: COLOR RENDITION SUCKS.
Take it back to Best Buy?
(I s'pose I just answered my question...)
Thanks in advance.
The subpixel arrangement creates a dot effect more seen in print when looking through a magnifying glass. While not overly distracting, I do notice it at times. My biggest complaint is the blueish hue shift in darker tones when putting the display at an angle. Is this a TN panel ? I've always had OLED and my Oppo Find 5 was the first smartphone I've owned that didn't have a OLED screen. Still, the find 5 screen was MUCH better than the note 10.1 2014. Especially the black levels are kinda disappointing. I think the screen is WAY overrated in reviews. I primarily use the note in darker indoor areas so I have no use for the extra brightness delivered by the white subpixel.
I still think it's a great device tough, and for the price there is nothing like it. I would like to see some CM and Omni builds for it though which retain the wacom S pen "drivers". I don't care for the samsung features, I just want to use Autodesk Sketchbook.
Overall, I'm really happy with my display. My one complaint is that viewing angles seem to be a little off.

What I know is that this device comes with LCD display. Not amoled. So there.is not pentile design. Because it is not amoled. The color would not look as vivid as amoled, yellow will look like a bit washout because of the backlight compared to amoled

As you can see, Note 10.1 2014 edition is pentile. You can also see this when looking at the screen. Transitions between some colors are a bit blurry.

Sorry folks, you can't argue with the objective.
As for the subjective, assuming those not digging the display don't have a h/w issue, to each their own. The N5's display objectively produces very accurate colors. Those I've seen look washed out and dull. OP's not happy with the coolness of his display. I personally detest warm displays. You can't argue the subjective because it's both personal and opinion.

Think average is a silly comment. I prefer the display to the ipad air. Sometimes wish the whites were slightly better. But I would like to see anyone who has a better screen on an Android 10 inch tablet

At the moment, I have both devices. Having used the S7 Edge since the release, yesterday I switched to the S7. In shifting back to the S7 Edge just now, I noticed the two device's displays are quite different.
The S7 clearly has more saturated colors and looks far brighter. The S7 Edge, in comparison, looks slightly more dull when side by side.
For reference, I tested both devices in the same conditions. That is to say the S7 and S7 Edge with automatic brightness disabled and pushed up to maximum manual brightness. Also I tested both in a darker room. For reference both were set to AMOLED Cinema.
Unfortunately even when the automatic brightness is turned back on, it's clear the S7 still looks more vibrant.
Can anyone explain what's going on here? Is it simply that the Edge looks like it has a lesser screen because of the larger size and thereby lower pixel density. Or is it something about the panels themselves and thus the S7 that I have now just happened to get a better panel than the Edge.
Any thoughts or answers would be appreciated.
Displaymate tested them and stated that they are practically identical in terms of performance: http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_S7_ShootOut_1.htm. Any chance you can test out against another Edge?

Actually no, unfortunately. Neither device has been released in Japan yet. Both of the ones I have are imported.
The thing is lot more complicated...
Each S7 Edge has different display quality! When you put 2 S7 Edge Side by Side and compare, you will see that the displays have different tint (mostly yellow), and more worse: a lot of the displays are not homogeneous. that means that one corner or side is brighter then the rest of the display.
i wrote a few threads regarding this, i also sent a message to displaymate (because they test "cherry-picked" devices, and do not mention this), see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note4-amoled-screen-quality-t2906365
basically i do think that the s7 screen is better, due to the Edge screen is P-AMOLED to be flexible! but the differences between otherwise identical devices are really huge!
i ordered my 5th device today, because all of them had flaws:
1st: display not good compared to second device
2nd: the device i use now. very good viewing angles and no tint, BUT: left side of display is darker then right side
3rd: display strong yellow tint
4th: display almost good, slight yellow tint. would take this, BUT: front cam takes blurry pictures compared to other devices...
5th: ordered today!
you may think i'm a hypocrite or have OCD, but it makes me mad that a 800EUR device has such flaws!!!
The s7 has more PPI due to smaller screen than edge

Or, you know, maybe you're looking for a flaw that's not there? It's a well known fact by now that a bend in a display, like the Edge, will have some shifts in brightness, tint and contrast, especially right in that bend! If this is something that annoys you, then I'd recommend you stick with flat panels from now on, because this won't be "fixed" for awhile. It's just the way it is.
Also, you do not have OCD.
"Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a common, chronic and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over."
If you turn the screen on and off 30 times before you can make a call, you have OCD. If you have to knock your door five times each time you come home, you have OCD. If you think the smartphone's screen is the wrong hue, that's not OCD, that's just being picky.

I think you're being a tad bit OCD. At the end of the day, the S7 might have a slightly better display than the S7E but the screen size and battery size make the S7E better for me personally. If you're looking for a slightly better looking display then maybe you'd be happier with the S7.

Thx for the medical and display-tech lecture, I'm a university lecturer (engineering and physics) myself!
1) Display quality: You did not read my post, or my linked thread regarding note4! The display of note4 was not curved, and had the same problems as all of samsungs amoled devices before: When you compare 10 devices side by side, you will see that each and every device has different screen tone, uniformity, ... About 2 out of 10 I would consider "good", all other have flaws such as a not uniform brightness distribution (one side of the screen is darker then the other side), or bad viewing angles.
this is NOT a problem which every device has, as I always found one device in the past which was "OK" after exchanging a few times.
same happened last week and today: last week i got a device with a really nice screen, but the front cam took blurry pictures compared to the other S7E devices I have in front of me. this can be easily reproduced, so the cam or lens has a problem the other devices do not have.
the device i got today has the best screen so far (good and even white distribution, good viewing angles), the front cam is ok (a bit less sharp pictures then my reference device, but WAY sharper as from the last weeks device), but there is a scuff on the top metal frame of the display, between the glass and the metal. this is no dust particle, it is a real scuff. :| i will test the rear-cam as well, if it is ok i will stay with this device, as the scuff is not nice, but a minor issue compared to the display faults of the other devices.
also, i showed the different displays of all my S7E devices to friends and colleagues (because they thought i'm crazy because of my exchanges), and all of them see the display faults as well. you need to have devices for comparison, then you will notice how bad some screens are compared to others!
so no need to go for an other device as the S7E, because there ARE good ones existing. but you have to be lucky to get one...
on the OCD: this was half ironic, because i know that OCD really is.

I did.... not read that Note 4 thread, and I did (clearly not) understand what you said (blame the beers I had), but alright, I do understand what you're saying now, and yeah, there is a slight difference in each panel, and some will get a slightly better panel than the other one. That happens with every screen out there, including LCDs, and viewing angles are also something that gets affected, but I have the impression that this is more of an issue with LCDs.
I would keep swapping it until I got a good panel, so keep doing what you're doing until you get tired or hit the jackpot. The screen is rated as the best smartphone screen ever, so I promise you it should look amazing. The issues you're experiencing is very common though, and must be somewhat expected when we are early adopters. These are typical issues that Samsung will weed out with time.
I saw a strange think on S7E: the 2 sides of the screen have grey shadow area if you looking at it in a dark room with low brightness of course...is that normal?

No, it isn't the same screen at all.
Resolution isn't everything. No human is able to discern the difference between 4K and 1440p on a display of this size at the distance we use phones from, so that's just marketing fluff. Subpixel rendering (as found on the N7) is also a pretty big improvement over most (but not all) competitors' screens.
Read through the article - I know it's long, but it'll make things very clear as to why some screens are better than others, and specifically why the N7's screen is better than the S7E's.
All you need to do is look at the two together in direct sunlight and you can see they are not the same screen. My son has my old GS6, and he was struggling in Pokemon Go yesterday, but my Note 7 may as well have been indoors it was so bright. Comparing the GS7E to the Note 7, just from a laymans view, the GN7 is clearly brighter as well in direct light, goes dimmer in the dark while maintaining readability, and the new dual ambient sensors change the brightness nearly instantaneously. The blue light filter is a nice touch as well, although I am not sure I will keep using it.

I've noticed that the dual ambient light sensor makes for very accurate and fast brightness changes, too. On every other phone I've owned I've had to install Lux... but Samsung duplicated most of its functionality, and upgraded the hardware to make it even more accurate.
