The kernel given in this Thread may work on our HD2, as it has, just like the Nexus One, a QSD8250.
As I don't have time at the moment I kindly ask for a tester who is willed to test this awesome feature
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468531
Nothing to do...as long as our Leo doesn't sypply ext devices with power WITHOUT any modded wire it is (at least for me) absolutly unusable.
It would make difference to connect HD2 to TV or connect devices like printer etc.
You can buy Y-cable with 9V battery external power or just make it yourself(which is very simple imho)
i will!!!!!!! if you provide some instructions! the page you linked is not exactly average-user-friendly!!!!!!

Do you know what devices supports USB host?
as far as I know: no ;-)
Athena, flame and shift
USB Host built in... !?
I have read most of the posts related to the USB Host thing...
Everytime i must read such things like that the Tytn has no hardware that supports USB-Host...
But Samsung says, that the CPU and Chipset has built in USB-Host AND USB-Device Ports...
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/productInfo.do?fmly_id=229&partnum=SC32442
So the statement that its hardware cannot do USB-Host is not true.
If the CPU and Chipsets has built in USB-Host Functionality, the Hardware-Ports in the Chips (i think) have to be used at the USB-Interface at bottom of the Tytn.
So at end, it has to be only a Software Problem to support USB-Host Functionality directly at Tytn...
Anyone who can follow my Ideas, or do i have an error in my thinking?
the usb functions of the cpu is not used there is another chip which handle usb for htc devices
even if the cpu support host non of the connections are passed on to any connctor
So is my Question, why should they do such irrational things ?
Why use another additional Hardware (at additional costs!!), if the already existing can do the functions ?
If they really do that, they must be mad... throwing dollars out of the window and make the product more expensive than it can be.
Its like i buy a Ferrari and only drive 130 km/h instead of 250 km/h on our german highways.
not sure the reason but it have been don for many generations of pda's from htc maybe the r&d cost of changing their pcb design is bigger then using their current design
or maybe they dont want to wander into the jungle of getting piles of support calls and mail with people wanting usb drivers for this and that not to mention the issue with having to be forced to substain a .5 mAmp output to usb devices with batt issues
and having to handle correct handling of init'ing connected usb devices after on off
But the Flame, Shift and Athena have USB-Host Funtionality you said.
Especially the Flame is much like the Tytn. So the Thing about Drivers, Batt and Current have to be the same.
I wonder in addition a little bit how it came to the sdhc compatibility that was not given under WM5 but now under WM6. For me that means the Hardware of SD is everytime the same, only the Software changes a bit. So the Tytn must accept cards up to 32gig...
Why they do such things will be a mystery on for the future.
I think with conventional explanation attempts it will not be done.
Maybe i will write a mail to HTC and will do the Question again there.
you should not sure if they will reply or even read it but you should all the same
but flame is not a htc device
Hy everyone,
First of all, thanks for this great forum which never fails to impress me.
I have a question which some of you might help answering: I'm wondering if it's possible to use the mini-usb port of my smartphone to get some data input.
Let me explain myself a bit more: I know that smartphones (HTC Touch for me) aren't USB hosts. However, the data connexions are still present.
Here's what I'd like to do: even though the smartphone can't control another peripheral, I'd like that external peripheral to send data to the smartphone, and the smartphone to use that data to control the screen. That would give an alternative way of controlling the screen.
The input would come from another touch surface, so my guess is that using the data to control the screen shouldn't be much of a problem.
So? Any idea if it's possible? What kind of platform/language would be nice to do that? C#?
(I have JAVA development experience, but I'm quite a newbie as far as Win Mobile devs are concerned. I'm willing to learn though
I think I searched this forum (and others) quite extensively before posting. If by any chance I missed a related post, I'd be glad to know about it
No ideas? Anyone?
Last up before I stop...
prob. not
i dont think that is technically possible. i think one has to be the host, and that host provides power. so to power the input device(im thinking keyboard) it would need the smartphone/ppc to be a host....
but i have no clue in this area...maybe someone could prove me wrong?
Hey, thanks for your answer.
The powering issues could be overcomed by cutting the cables and giving power from an external power source (I think several people have tried doing it, I need to find the links again). By the way, the peripheral itself is plugged on 110V, so there's plenty of available power
I'm not seeking here to "control" the device, just to aquire the signal it's sending... Does that seem feasible, or does the peripheral need to be somehow "activated" by a Host before sending anything?
Well, in order to get data, the host must ask the slave each time it needs some. Other things must be done by the host, like usb enumeration. That means there has to be a host or it won't work, unless you use usb on-the-go, but I do not know many devices that support it.
according to the qualcomm website, the msm chipsets support otg
The Xperia doesn't have host capabilities, but is it possible to get such functions with suitable drivers? Such drivers are discussed in this thread:
http://forum.ppcwarez.org/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=58813
As you can see they work with certain winmo devices. I wasn't able to make them work with my Xperia, but maybe one of you guys would be able to do it. Any other solutions?
PC
Not sure I'd bother really. What do you need to connect? If it's for storage just get yourself devices that take SD cards, then use MicroSD in adapters, then y ou can easily take it out and put it in the Xperia to copy stuff over.
Well, I guess I want my Xperia to have all sorts of capabilities. Imagine connecting an external DVD-RW drive and burning a couple of disks...... How about that !
I don't think linking to warez sites is within the rules..
if you have to it would be better to stick the relevant text in your post
Um.... the site may be for anything, but the drivers are freeware made by a poster on that site. I don't think it is against the rules, but if it is a mod should take the necessary steps.
The only reason that I could reasonably see for having a USB host to to accept USB pendrives for copying data to the microSD card. I can see 3-4 reasons why it wouldn't work, the primary one being that the USB port won't provide 5v/500mA to power the external peripheral.
Just a idea...
i have an idea which i like to share with You ...Imagine one small box with 4 ordinary aa mignon bateries inside and a card reader inside and a mini usb cable going out from that thing. Ok, now what we have here? Alternative charger for Your Xperia if You need it,some extra backup space for Your data and all we need is Usb host drivers on xperia. Advantages of this stuff is that everyone can make it, its a cheap solution,You can buy a batteries in almost every market and its just a basic idea so You can upgrade it as You need it. The fact is that we now have a power (5v/500ma) which we need for usb host. Please let me know what are You think of this and sorry for my bad English
Hm.... So the Xperia doesn't have a powered USB right? Can't this be changed by a software hack or something or is it hardware related? Is there a device that can be put between the Xperia and the external flash and that provides some form of power, like the one "Mrca" suggested above my post?
I would like posibilyty to conect usb stick.
now and then I trawel by ferry it takes abaur 12 h of doing nothing.
and just watching movies on phone.
so stick is perfect for video or music. my mini 8gb sd is full with other crap.
and by hqaving external power to usb it alsoo charges phone.
so anyone ?!?!?!
PLEASE USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION !
This has allready been discussed here :

You should have a look to those other subforums of devices which feature the same chipset / functions.... ( Touch HD , Touch Pro, Touch Diamond etc etc etc )
here you can find how the Galaxy Tab is constructed :
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Teardown/4103/1
and intrestingly here there is the datasheet of the wifi/bt/fm chip:
http://pdf.eccn.com/pdfs/Datasheets/Broadcom/BCM4329.pdf
as you can see it got fm support and not only a receiver but also a transmitter meaning that implementing support at kernel level you could listen your mp3 or whatever you want on your car radio!
it got double simultaneous stereo bt output support ! wow
as you can see bt spec are about 2.1+edr and not 3.0 ... why?
cause bt3.0 is simply a bt2.1edr+wifi support for large files...so hardware is the same , only software support is needed for 3.0!
you can see the collaborative support bt+wifi described inside the datasheet and even wimax support!
I am interested in knowing if it is possible to power a portable hdd from the tab. I recently tried to plug my portable 1tb usb powered hdd into the tab via a usb to micro adaptor I got on eaby. It all connects up, however there is not power to the drive. I wonder if any tech guys who break these things down would know if there is a switch or program that would make this possible. This way, I can have 1 tb of vids and apps instead of 16gb on an sd card.
dubie, I have already answered this question in your thread about the matter, and even went as far as to explain WHY it will not work. Please do not hijack other's threads, especially for info that was answered in your own thread about the matter.
On another note, cheers for the links Triplex Good to see the innards of our tab hehe.
just a quick OT answer to dubie...
usb host function is not supported from the tab at the moment but this is not the only problem.
to work properly an external usb 2.5" hard drive needs almost 500mA, it doesn't need (the best one!) that much of juice when working but when starting to spin it needs double the mA cause there is a peak just as it happens for car battery where specs are different for start amperage (peak) and continuos one.
galaxy tab can't provide 500mA, better can't provide at all cause the usb is not a feeded one type.there are phones and tabs where the usb works as an host but they needed an external power supply to feed the hard-disk if you want to connect one.usb host on mobile stuff is just there for static memory, pendrives, external hid peripherals.probably some newer ssd could work good too.
Other than repair and information, are there any mods that can be done by taking one of these apart?
Hello everyone!
I just started working on a small project and would like to hear what you people think about it.
The idea of the project is simple. Create a dock for your smartphone, which basically extends its usability to a full fledged laptop or PC.
All the new phones mostly have MHL (11pin) connectors which means connecting it to an HDMI screen is not a problem. Also, a use of a wireless mouse and keyboard is quite simple and very functional.
So what I am thinking of creating is sort of a laptop with a 13.3 inch screen, a keyboard (maybe even removable to use separately) and a battery to power the LCD.
I have already been in contact with producers of LCDs and control boards, and believe I should start creating the prototype soon.
So what are your thoughts about it?
Do you have any ideas?
Thank you and have a good day!
*to mod: if this is in the wrong section I apologize and kindly ask you to move it to the appropriate section of the forum or message mo to put it somewhere else. Thank you1

Man this is great
I have been thinking about it for some time ... to make my phone a laptop whenever i need to have me a laptop
My solution was to find a virtual machine that runs inside my phone for any type of os ... the problem is the memory !!! Also the app i didnt find it yet
Well bro good luck
If i were you i would take advantage of screen casting instead of lcd monitor so in case the user wanna use the device screen or the tv !!! You can also sell a mini hdmi thing ( the hdmi stick that lets you cast your screen into tv )
Also there is a keyboard and mouse as one piece and their small and great could take them with you everywhere in ... i saw it amazon for 35$ or less something like that with Bluetooth connection. ... im sure you can find a way to do some mod for those keyboards and make them yours ... good luck and keep us posted
A great idea!

lapdock is the answer
hi dudes
lapdock is the answer but the ld has only 11,6' screen. very suitable and light weight. a lot of mods on youtube.
