I have a problem with my defy, when I use magnifying cursor in any app, it messes up the text I wrote (handcent, facebook, skype, XDA, Opera......) so when I type text and then go back few lines up to correct something, it completely messes up the word I came across, for example : "This is a text I am just typing to show you my problem. " becomes: " This is a text I am just typing toshowyoouu mmyproblem. " (I came across to show you my problem part). The problem only apears when I use stock rom, is there any other way to fix it beside using custom rom?
Thank you

I have ROM 1.93 and the ammount of characters of the sms is hidden behind the keyboard. I heard that the old ROM had it in the taskbar.
Is there any tool or reg.key to put the counter somewhere else?
Or maybe a pop-up like the old SE phones have, with a notice thay you've entered the next sms.
Because I'm switching from provider for 3G and I won't have unlimited sms to my g/f anymore lol
I know it's not an ideal solution but, while you're typing up your SMS, tapping the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen will toggle the keyboard on and off so you can check at any time before you send whether you've gone over the 160 character limit or not. It is a pain in the arse to have to keep doing it but at least it lets you see the info you need.
Yeah I already found this solution, but it's not that practical.
Also if I tap the incon in the botto my keybaord doens't dissapear, but I get the input options, where I can change the keybaord layouts.
When you type an sms outside TF3D, you see the count in the taskbar.
But I prefer TF3D, so I can work without stylus.
Hoped someone with program abilities countered the same problem and made a little fix for it.
Bizarrely if you are typing a reply it shows the characters in the task bar at the top left but if you type a new message it is under the text and hidden by the keyboard.

You need to tap away from the triangle/arrow beside the keyboard icon.
Hmm ok so no other solution then clicking away the keybaord, make adjustments, click it away again to check if enough etc etc.
I'll reserve 5 minutes per sms then, because smsing with the touchscreen isn't that quick either. lol
That's not a problem specific to the Diamond.
SMSs are a pain on touchscreens. They are a pain on Windows Mobile.
And of couse the Diamond is Windows Mobile AND touch screen...
Hi
I managed to remove the green highlight from words when writing sms, but somehow it has come back after trying to backup the device.
Anyone know the thread here to remove this? Searched but can't find it.
Not a major issue, but bugging me as I had my diamond working just as I wanted and this little thing is niggling me....
Thanks in advance
you are using the threaded view or normal view?
which green highlight are you reffering to?
When writing sms
the word being written in the main message is highlighted in green.
I did find a thread where the green could be removed so all text is black on white background. This I preferred.
Ive had a hunt for this query through the search but havnt spotted anything so far. The best way to explain is with an example. Im using the compact qwerty keyboard. It also happens in the normal keyboard but not as often (as the words suggested are generally more accurate!)
Il be typing letters for a word, say, 'tiddlywinks' (which at the moment isnt in the dictionary). so i type t, i, d, d which suggests tidd but then i press 'l' which then doesnt suggest 'tiddl' but infact suggests 'tuddl' as the only word.
So, i want to add a word, so i click the down arrow button thing which then lists the only word ('tuddl'), an 'add word' button and an 'x'. So i press add word, but that adds 'tuddl' to the message. I can type tiddlywinks in the ABC format, which appears in the little bar that popped up, but it doesnt add anything to the message.
So at this point, the message im typing has the only word as 'tuddl'. I have to then delete this word and then retype tiddlywinks in the standard way to add it to the message. A bit annoying.
Does anyone know why this happens? ANy way to stop it? Ive tried to explain it exactly as it happens, though its tricky :|
Thanks
Steve
Bump!
No suggestions at all for this? Is it just my device?
i dont have the same problem as you.. but my phone has a hard time remembering words... like " i'll " ...there is no way i can add it to the dictionary... i'll add it and it seems to add it but when you go into another thread and type the word again it doesnt pick it up, it suggests " u'll
"... and god forbid you do a soft reset, most of the words i added are lost, expecially spanish words... blah,
theres still a bug in the messaging app/tools
Here you go:
http://www.bytetips.com/how-to-add-delete-backup-t9-added-words/
This shows you how you can backup your words but more importantly for you, it reveals the built-in application we have which is perfect for creating new words that actually stay! For example, have it shortcut'ed in your start menu and when typing a text and need to add a word that wont add, open the app, add it, go back to your text message and there you go, its there!
Works for me, hope it works for you!
Thanks il give it a go.
Though it seems to suggest, from the comments above, that the words should add to the message as i type in the new word after pressing 'add word'.
The question is, why wont it let me, hmmm!
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but it is a text typing issue on my Touch HD so hope this is the right place. Could not find any similar post using search.
If I open SMS Text messaging or Notes and create a new message/note I get some strange auto-typing behaviour.
If I type 'aaa bbb' then place the cursor after the 3 a's and before the space, then type 'c' then the 3 b's get duplicated so I end up with aaabbbc bbb
Is this a feature or a bug? Can it be disabled?
I have turned off all spell checking and auto correction >Setting>Input Method>Options>T9 settings
Hi,
I just did my first steps in Android programming. And what is better to learn by improving something that you dislike?
So I changed a very tiny thing: the SMS/MMS app's "Send" button.
It now shows from the beginning the remaining letters of an SMS. All this appears on the "Send" button now (below the "Send", just like the text when you send an MMS).
I put a screenshot of before/after into the attachment, so please take a look and tell me what you think. Does this make sense? Should I make something of this configurable? Any further suggestions?
I did this primarily to learn a bit about Android, but now I'd like to go further. So any comment welcome
My thanks go to olearyp from the CM IRC channel
Cheers
Chris
Love it! Big help, for sure. Is it for the black background mod/CM MMS app?

I've looked at the patch, and it should require minimal massaging to apply to irrenhaus-based messaging apps. Most of the actual message entry code appears to be unchanged or nearly so from the AOSP version.
Message code is indeed completely unchanged.
I'd like to know if you think that I should add preferences for this like enable/disable it or configure the number of letters before it kicks in. But maybe that would be too much for such a tiny feature.
EDIT:
Now I see what you mean with black background mod: The thing that is on my mobile and enables me to activate a "fullscreen" keybord which disables the "remaining letters" display completely. I'll rebase my changes against CM sources. They are currently against the original ones.
Thanks for the feedback so far!
Cheers
Chris
Patch available
The patch is in the review now, if anyone wants to take a look on it. I'm a new user so I can't post links yet, but it's on the CM reviewboard as number 686.
Cheers,
Chris
nice work ^_^
Nice work papillon81, very usefull
Hopefully they can put this in a nightly.
Can you implement an option that let's you choose with which app you want to send the sms, when pressing the send button or the button for new message?
I use websms for sending sms, but want to use the stock sms app for reading. It's a bit annoying to go back to homescreen and than open the websms app everytime.
Best implementation would be that when you press new message it just asks, if you want to use stock sms app or websms (if installed). For the send button in the message threads it would be nice that it asks and when websms is chosen, it copies the typed text and the recepient to websms (if possible).
Well, the best option would be to use the stock SMS app for reading and writing and supply different backends so that you can send SMS via your provider as well as via an internet service.
The patch is still in review, so if you like it, comment on reviewboard, too
