So, i just received my 7.7 Galaxy Tab today. I purchased it off of E-Bay. The item description was "brand new". However, when it arrived, the little Samsung sticker on the box was already broken (FedEx guy was already gone when I opened it). I pulled it out, all the plastic wrap on the device is there and appears to have never been removed. When i turned it on, it was already set to english, so i did not have to do anything (i.e. i did not get the android quick start screen)
Just wondering if anyone knows what i should look for to see if there is something wrong, if it was already registered or anything else.
Try to ask the seller on why the seal was already broken, carefully check of any scuff marks or signs of usage.. if it all looks and even smells pristine then you should have nothing to worry about.
Sometimes the seller will turn on to make sure it works. I'll bet this is the case. You probably have a brand new one. Enjoy.
I did the smell test, have looked it over carefully and did not notice any signs of use. I e-mailed the seller to see why, but I think all appears to be ok.

I really love doing the smell test on new devices! ( not kidding )
Maybe he just wanted to check it out and see if he shipped a fully working device. A lot of local samsung retailers in my place also break the seal the boxes especially if the first few batches of shipment, they test for basic functionality and check if everything is in place.
Did you buy an unlocked P6800? I don't know if all of these come factory unlocked of if the seller does it.
At any rate, there were a ton of defective 10.1s from the first shipment so maybe the seller had bad memories of that and wanted to be sure the units he's moving work.
No, it is the P6810 wifi only.
so i decided to buy a nexus 7 and ordered one through google play store, amazingly recieved mine in 2 days, when i recieved box it had 2 seals on each side and one of each was cut open and other was on top as shown clearly in pics attached, well i started using it, and next day i opened the back of tab and to my surprise the seal sticker on the screws were tempered already as the screwdrver had been used to opem the screws, that really made me feel screwed, i paid for a brand new unit and what i got is a refurbished unit, wtf google i called them and talked to representative when i told him about seals on screws he put me on hold for good 10 minutes and came back telling me i talked to my 2 supervisors and they say we do not ship refurbished unit we even send replacement units in warrenty as new not refurbished then i insisted again and he put me on hold again came back again telling me i talked to my supervisor and he told me that opening back voids the warrenty i said it pops off i did not unscrew anything he said it still voids warrenty i said ok lets just forget about if i popped back off say i id not do that please explain me the 2 seals on box one of which is cut open, then he ws like it might have been opened to check the screen issues we had in past, i was like no im not satisfied jjust gimme email address so i can send you pics and show you what i am trying to tell you, so he sent me email and i sent him these pics and waiting to see what they say. only reason im pissed is that i paid full price for a brand new unit and what i get is a refurbished unit wtf.. lets see what happens now, anyone else experienced same?
for some people it doesnt matter, but for me it is a concern...
I agree with you. You paid for a new N7 not a refurbished one! If I got that unit, it would have gone straight back. To start with, it has been sent back for a reason, more than likely screen lift. Possibly other faults with it.
I did read somewhere on here that open the back does not void the warranty because it's meant to be easily accessible, as long as you don't mess around with any of the internals.
Even if they don't want to replace it, you should at least get some money off. It's not your fault that someone has tightened the screws up......
Send it back....

Send it back and get one from a store. Mines was a C80 batch and had a different box (easy to open) with only one seal:
First thing I checked was to make sure the seal is intact, before I purchased the tablet.
Also, why did you had to tell them about screws and other things? The discussion should of stopped right at the multiple scotch tapes. Personally, I would've not opened the box. Now, they will probably charge you a stocking fee because of that or not even refund it saying that you opened the case heh. They are in panic mode due to fairly high number of returned tablets, so I guess they don't like to hear "I want an exchange/refund."
Yes, they do rework the affected units and resell them as new. If you're not happy then return it. The latest one I bought was obviously a rework since it had fingerprints all over but since it didn't have, bad pixels, etc. I kept it.
Yes, I get those too. The seal is different, when I peel it off I can clearly see the original transparent seal under it. Opened the back cover, warranty sticker on the screw is there untouch. Also, there's some finger print mark on the copper shield.
If this is reworked unit then I can say they still failed at it because mine has obvious screen lift. I fixed the screen with super glue and all is fine. But got to say that even their rework team is not competent enough. Wtf Asus?

So let me get this straight, you're complaining about some box and tape or seals but have a perfectly good N7 with no flaws or screen lift? Just be happy you have a good until.

That's exactly what I'm saying.
They can't resell used products and label them as new. That's a huge FTC violation. The reason they repackaged them is to attempt to fix the screen lift, whether it worked or not, you decide, but if you're wondering. Then that's why.

well the most ridiculous art is that after waiting for 2 days to hear back from google i contacted them again today and as soon as i started that i emailed you 2 days ago and have not heard back since, he was like yes i see you sent email and just 5 minutes ago your mail was picked and being worked on so just give it some time and you will see response i said ok fine ill give it 24 more hours, lets see what they say, i checked my unit is c60 so i definitely recieved an old reworked unit after paying full brand new price.... i definitely want a replacement unit mr.google and this time you better send me a new unit... i did read about screen lifts and then noticed a little screen lift on left side of screen it is lifted up from the frame but the right side is fine, i ushed it and it went back in but after an hour or so its back up... so this definitely is a reworked unit which was a total fail...

well my unit is c60 batch i checked. so i havent heard back from google yet total of 4 days now very lousy google service to catchup with customer`s complaints. i will try my best to return it without having to pay restocking fee. will never buy again from google, i would rather pay little extra and buy from store for peace of mind.
I went to bestbuy to exchange my ASUS Transformer Prime (many known problems), they let me, and said i could go pick any tablet to exchange it with (thought they would just offer a ASUS Transformer Infinity as the replacement) , so i went to go look at the tablets, narrowed it down to the Infinity or the Note 10.1, decided on the Note. Asked the person there if he could get me one from the back or whatever, to go bring up to Customer Service to exchange. He went to go get it, came back and said they where all out of stock.. So anyways i ask if they can order me one, they said yeah and i could come pick it up on the 24th.
But today I check bestbuy.com just to see if they have any instock by chance. and what I see now for the White model, is "Unavailable" http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung...6&skuId=6315134&st=galaxy note 10.1&cp=1&lp=2 also "Shipping: Not available" for the black model however it says for store pickup " Pick up in 3 to 5 days" and "Shipping: Usually leaves our warehouse in 1 business day"
I also checked amazon, and i get the message "Item Under Review
While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)

This is all really weird, I wonder what the problem is. Looks like i might have to get the black model, or wait a bit, for the white to get back in stock at bestbuy.. Some other retailers (newegg, b&hphoto etc) still have the white instock.
I was about to order it from Aamzon this morning...and i noticed this. There is a seller on Amazon named 'onSale.'...im slight concerned ordering from them:

A little nervous making, no?
That probably refers to people complaining about broken seals on packaging received from Amazon.
+1
Still on sale with lots of vendors and Samsung.

Best buy does not have a lot of white in stock. Greys were manufactured first. Whites typically represented the 8000 originally.
Best buy cant ship it to your house, except on days that trucks get delivered. I have no idea why this is. But check on Saturday or Monday/Tuesday and it should show up that it can be delivered to your house free shipping.
I just returned my grey for creaks and ordered the white one. Only shipped to store for now since I ordered Wednesday.
There's about 5 best buy stores within 300 miles over me that have whites in stock. None of them are convenient.
All respective Notes (8000, 8010, 8013) are mechanically the same and made on the same assembly lines no matter what color they end up being. So if there was something wrong with the production of white back covers or white displays (since the color is part of the actual display) I could see where one color could have a different set of issues than the other. I also think that's highly unlikely or it would have popped up here in the forum before Amazon. White seems to be more popular so it could simply be Samsung guessed the percentages of white vs. gray wrong and didn't build enought white ones.
Consider getting it at Walmart. I returned my16 GB version to BB and got the 32GB Version from WM because the two year warranty with accidental coverage was only $69 compared to $180 @ BB. And BB would not price match on the warranty.

I actually gave in and drove to canton, OH to get the white one tonight. Funny, i swear this feels sturdier and slightly heavier. It could be because i didnt have my baby for 18 hours...
The front of the box is slightly different than my gray one too. Graphically, they replaced the s-planner icon on the gray box with the s-notes icon on the white one. No creaks on this either so far.
It really does feel more solid, i swear im not going crazy.
Go with the deep gray. I've had the white model for ~2 weeks, and decided I'd rather have the deep gray, as well as 32gb of internal storage (instead of the 16gb I have currently), and I'm willing to pay the $50 price difference that I found on Amazon. The new one should be here today, and I'm going to send this one back.
I don't like the gray border/trim on the white model. I think it makes it look kinda cheap, like a toy. Hopefully, the deep gray will appeal a bit more, with a modern look.

When I bought mines I wanted the Whitr buy the best buys surrounding me only had grey so I went with that. I woulf check stock daily after to see if they had the white and there days when I saw both models listed as unavailable. About 2 weeks after I bought the grey one, a store near my job finally had the white in stock so I went on my lunch break. When I went to the desk and the girl told me they didn't have it. I let her know that it says they had it online and got pissed off and walked to the section where they have the tablets. Five minutes later she came back with the white one and did my exchange.

When they were first pulled, from my understanding, there were a lot of returns related to one or more defects. Not sure what.
I bought my nexus on August 27th, so I'm obviously out of normal exchange time. When I bought it, I got the staples extended warranty. Recently, I've been having trouble with the tablet such as battery not seeming to hold the charge as well, the camera not always working (resulting in multiple restarts till it does), noticeable screen lift, and most recently what seems to be a set of vertical blue and orange lines when I have the tablet in landscape mode on occasion. I've even had the thing just go dead when it should have been on half battery, and refuse to turn on for hours.
I tried going to the store, where the employees called their tech. They told them to call Asus, who sent us back to staples, who called Asus themselves and were allegedly told that there was no record of my conversation EVEN THOUGH WE HAD JUST SPOKEN TO THEM. This is all after I tried calling them from home on my own, and went through the same thing.
When I bought the extra warranty, the employee said I would get a refund the first time I had a problem, then replacements from then on. Staples phone tech says they only cover what Asus doesn't, but then told me that the screen lift isn't covered by staples. Then I see online that no one seems to be able to get Asus to cover it.
Can someone tell me which of my problem ARE NOT covered by Asus, so I can just get staples to give me money back? Here's to waiting it out for the 32gig HSDPA+ one. At least then it will be worth it to keep getting it replaced every few months. : /
Wow.....I had no problem with Asus replacing mine.....that is sad

Warranty 101
Ok i thinkeyou are kinda confusing us. but here is the way extended warranties work..
They give you a extended warranty period of Manufacture covered issues..
They also often add damage coverage
where your device sounds like it fits in.
It has the flaw screen lift issue as well as a camera and screen issue . Your Staples warranty only covers this .(manufacture covered issues ) After the manufacture warranty has expired..
Now some warranty companies will send it in for you from the store. Ask staples if they do this.. if not
You must contact asus direct . tell them your issues and you want a RMA to get it resolved. They will give you one and you have to send it in to asus. If asus says they will NOT COVER the issues. Then they will provide you a reason..At that point the Staples warranty under there damage coverage will repair or replace your device . This is dependent on there Terms of course
Hope this helps .
Good luck . asus will help you
Hello,
I just wanted to share my experience that I had with Motorola regarding replacement of my Nexus 6.
So, I have had my Nexus 6 for a little over a month. (Just long enough to not be able to return it) I have noticed screen "burn in" really bad where the navigation bar and status bar are located. So bad that I can see a "ghost" of my navigation and status bar icons when watching videos on YouTube. I tried to prevent it, keeping brightness down and display timeout on 30 seconds. Apparently I received a very poor quality display.
Anyways, I contacted Motorola about this and I wanted to share their return policy and procedures. Motorola will give you two options.
Option One: "Standard Replacement Service" They will email you a return shipping label. The label is standard FedEx Ground. You then use the label to return your defective Nexus 6 to them. Once they receive it, they will ship you a "Like New" device within 5 business days.
Option Two: "Premium Replacement Service" They will ship you a Brand New Nexus 6 via FedEx 2nd Day Air. Included in the package will be a return shipping label to return the defective Nexus 6. This option has a service charge of $24.99 AND they require you to provide them with a credit card, which they issue a security hold on in the amount of $500.00.
I originally went with option one yesterday, but then I decided against it and called back right away this morning to cancel the RMA and created a new RMA and went with option two. I really didn't want to go without my phone for two weeks.
I found out that the only thing not covered under warranty "repair" is liquid / extreme moisture. The Nexus 6 one year warranty covers repair / replacement of damaged devices! If your Nexus 6 is out of the one year warranty, a $175 fee is charged for malfunctioning or damage. (Still a good deal in my opinion)
https://motorola-global-portal.cust..._answer_detail/a_id/102486/p/30,6720,9293#fix
Not all of your info is accurate. I've had a Nexus 6 I purchased through Sprint in April, and about two months ago I dropped it causing the screen to shatter. There was also a dent in the upper left corner and for reasons I couldn't figure out the micro USB port ceased to work.
Naturally, I checked out the repair service for Motorola and found that my phone was still within the one year limited warranty period. I sent my phone in with the bootloader unlocked, rooted, running XtraSmooth MM preview using option one as you described above and switched to using a Verizon GS5 while I waited. 4 days later I received a brand new replacement Nexus 6 and wasn't charged anything for my damaged phone nor denied service due to software modifications.
It was incredibly quick and hassle free, and I would definitely give their repair service a 5/5 stars for quality service and speed.
Now, if your phone is older than a year you WILL have to pay a fee for repairs. However, if your phone is relatively new you can easily claim warranty twice within that first year.
Also, I've never experienced this burn in people talk about on either of my devices so if they claim it's been rectified, it probably has.

They repaired (replaced) your broken device for free? That is amazing! The reps I talked to advised me it was $175 for damage repair. (Because they just replace it I guess) So your saying you get 2 claims during the one year warranty for damage even?
Did Google still own Motorola when you sent your phone in?

No, you are correct! I seem to have been miss informed, kinda. I just checked Nexus 6 warranty info @ Motorola.com.
The ONLY thing excluded from warranty "repair" is liquid damage / extreme moisture damage. If you have owned your Nexus 6 for longer than one year, THEN the $175 fee is charged for a malfunctioning or damaged device. People need to know this! I wonder how many people replaced their own displays that they broke, tossed out, sold for parts, etc their damaged Nexus 6's not knowing that Motorola would have repaired it for free had they just sent it in for free.
I am glad I now know this! Not to mention, I will have proof of "purchase" for my Nexus 6 because they are shipping me the new device. So I have a year from today pretty much.
Thank you for posting! I would have never looked and been misguided by not one, but two reps!
Also, I did a full wipe, stock flash, bootloader locked my device just to be safe. I mean, they are holding $500 hostage on my credit card. lol. I'm not taking any chances!
"Burn in" is covered but its pointless. Amoleds will "burn in" except if hide the softkeys. Dealing with "burn in" was better than unknowns of refurb.
Shattered screens are not covered by warranty. They charge $175 whether in or out of warranty.

That is what I would assume, but reading the warranty guidelines the only thing stated as not being covered is liquid damage.

Not saying you're wrong, but feel free to tell that to my no-charge busted screen warranty claim.
Most manufacturers have a one year limited warranty, and you don't have to provide proof of purchase unless asked. Usually the date you bought the device and where you bought it will suffice. I got my girlfriend's S5 fixed for free by Samsung at the same time my Nexus 6 was replaced. She dropped it and busted the LCD. Warranty covered it too.
I wanted to chime in with my recent experience. Im still waiting on my replacement (should be today). My nexus 6 was having the split screen issue no matter what rom or kernel I was running and the USB port was really loose (was interfering with android auto). I went with option 2 and they told me they are sending a like new not brand new.

Update....so gotta give Motorola support props. I had also joked that they could send me an white 64GB (mine was 32gb blue) and they said they can't do that. Told him no problem. Well, to my surprise, they sent me a brand new white 64gb. The box was still factory sealed and includes a brand new charger and cable. Lucky Me!

That is awesome! Congrats on that! Now you have my hopes up... lol. I asked if I could receive a Cloud White instead of Midnight Blue. He advised me that he could not do that but that he would notate my RMA that I requested a Cloud White instead so it would be up to the warehouse if they wanted to make an exception. I have been thinking about getting a cloud white replacement housing and back. I found a site that sells true oem parts and it would cost me $40.00 all said and done. But it would be awesome if they just sent me a Cloud White!
Also, everyone that I have heard of that has had their Nexus 6 replaced by Motorola in the last few months has received a factory sealed device in retail packaging with the original retail accessories. I seriously don't think that they are refurbished devices. I have or know people who have received refurbished electronics from warranty claims before such as Blu Ray players, computer components, phones, tablets, etc. (I'm the family tech) They seem to usually be in unmarked packaging, and just the unit itself with no accessories.
I could be wrong but I can't see a company packing refurbs in retail packaging, sealed with all of the normal included accessories.
I helped my uncle with his iPhone 5 in the past and a LG Tablet. We sent them both in for warranty repair and he received refurbs back in non-retail packaging with no accessories. (They had different serial numbers so I doubt they were repaired. Sprint even wanted to charge him $35 for activation on the iPhone 5. lol)

Well, to my surprise, they sent me a brand new white 64gb. The box was still factory sealed and includes a brand new charger and cable. Lucky Me!

I wasn't so lucky. I received my replacement Nexus 6 today. It was in a moto care box. The phone itself in the box was in a bubble wrap sleeve. Everyone I have heard of got a new in retail box replacement, but not me! lol. The phone did have the factory plastic thing on the screen, and after VERY close examination of the device there is not so much as a tiny knick or scratch or a single spec of dust in the speaker grills. I'm not sure what to make of it. Either the rep I talked to lied to me, or they have new devices that they issue in non-retail packaging.
Anyone receive their replacement like this?

I have received one each way. One in retail package, new sealed box, and another that was in bubblewrap sleeve with plastic on it. I'm betting that the bubble wrapped one is probably a refurb, but if it is, mine was flawless as well, so they probably tore it apart, put a new screen, back/side casing and speaker grill set in it. There are a few other companies I've gotten refurbs from over the years that were this good, but not many.
Well, never mind I guess. I thought it looked like a brand new device but it clearly is not. The display is worse than the one I was replacing. It looks like this is going to be a fun ride. I would literally rather keep the one I have than the one they sent me... It has worse burn in on the nav bar than mine did. Also, there is a dark hue on I would say 1/4 of the bottom of the display. As if it is not as bright as the rest.
This is definitely going back to Motorola! I am going to call them now.

Oh I see. I hate refurbished replacements. I don't know why, and I know they "inspect" them but I just hate the idea of it I guess. I mean, mine looked brand spanking new but judging by the serious nav bar burn in and how the bottom 1/4 of the display was darker, almost pinkish hue to it, the display was definitely from a used unit.
I was just on the phone with Motorola for over an hour. I explained to a supervisor in the escalations department how I paid the $24.99 and let them hold $500+ dollars on my credit card, only to receive a worse device than the one I originally had. So, he said that in order for him to send another replacement immediately that he would have to issue another $500 security hold. BUT, when he created my RMA he set it up so that I will be receiving a Brand New, 64GB Cloud White. I originally had a 32GB Midnight Blue! This is awesome! I went from super frustrated to super happy. lol. Motorola definitely has some of the better customer service that I have experienced to say the least. He offered the 64GB upgrade for the inconvenience, which I told him I greatly appreciated but I would love if he could send me a cloud white version as well.
I have a minor screen issue, get tearing like once a month on some kernels, but Couple times a day on others. Scarred to warranty because everything else is great.
i just got off the phone with motorola because of deep scratches and i've started to notice after occasional reboots, my SIM card will not read. i'll have to pull it and re-insert it 3-4 times until it actually picks up. i've tried cleaning the SIM slot with a soft bristled toothbrush several times but still happening. so according to motorola, nevermind the SIM problem, if there's a scratch on the screen i'll have to pay $175 plus taxes. for those looking for the warranty guidelines, here you go:

Damn! The person who posted about sending his in damaged got extremely lucky! So they told you that if it even had a scratch on it that you would have to pay $175 to have it replaced?
