Anyone knows what i did wrong ? And the airtel "customer help" are not exactly helping me in any way.

For Airtel mobile office your settings are ok just remove proxy and port. if you are trying to setup airtel live then apn should be airtelfun.com and proxy and port remains. most of the android phone will not display 3G instead it will show H for HSPDA. if 3G signal is weak it will switch back to edge and will show "E". try changing the mode to WCDMA only. then check.
as an alternate give these a try for data.
1. Homepage – any page you want to set.
2. User Name – Blank
3. Password – Blank
4. Proxy – Enabled/yes.
5. Proxy and Server Adress – 202.56.231.117
6. Proxy and Server Port – 8080
7. Data bearer – GPRS or Packet Data.
8. Access Point Name – airtelgprs.com
9. Authentication Type – Normal
10. Use preferred access point – No
Even I am having the same problem. My settings are correct as stated above but I am getting only 2G. 3G hasnt come up even once and I have travelled over 20 Kms across the length of Bombay, so coverage cannot be an issue. Do I need to change anything else?
Open Dialer and type this *#*#4636#*#*
Select the drop-down that says "Phone Information". From there, scroll down to where it should say "WCDMA preferred", and change it to "WCDMA only". Use the back key to get out. now check if your phone is able to detect 3G network. once it connects to 3G and you see H.
Airtel has worst network in mumbai so for phone to stay connected on 3G network signal strenght should be above -125db or else phone will switch back to 2G network. may be because of low signal stength you are not able to get 3G

Hey Smokin,
I tried this method to force WCDMA mode on my Samsung Captivate, but had no luck getting the 3g symbol on my phone. Instead I still have the E symbol for edge.
I have been trying since Saturday to get Airtel to put their 3g service on my phone, but had no luck. I went to a Airtel shop yesterday here in Manipal to get 3g manually activated on my phone. That didn't do any good as well.
I believe like you said that the problem isn't the activation aspect of 3g, but rather the signal strength for 3g is too low to be picked up by android phones. When I went to the Airtel shop the other day I noticed that most of the people there with working 3g phones had either a blackberry or iphone device.
If this is actually the case, I have no choice but to switch to another cell phone service provider who provides 3g service with a "android-friendly" signal strength. Is there such a thing?
Can you try with any of 3g enabled handset to see if you get 3g network in Nokia phones like n95 it should Show 3.5g. Also was your phone able to see Airtel network in wcdma only mode.
Sent from my HTC HD2 on andriod using XDA App
Hey,
I don't have any other handset with 3g capability nor do my buddies here. When I put the phone in WCDMA mode, I didn't get a signal for the GSM Airtel Network.
Apparently other Galaxy S owners have been having problems with Airtel's 3g network (Read at the comment section below: mobilegyaan.com/airtel-3g-karnataka-price).
Maybe Airtel will resolve this soon?
Edit: 3g is working now on my handset with Airtel network in Manipal.

Airtel launched its 3g service in Hyderabad today. And I was facing similar problems as others here. Selecting "WCDMA Only" did the trick for me and now I have the 'H' symbol on my HTC Wildfire.
However, I checked the signal strength and it is displaying -81dBm 16 asu. Does this mean I won't be able to access 3g with "WCDMA preferred" selected as I often roam and would like to fall back on 2g in the absence of 3g signal.
Also, will the above mentioned signal strength affect the call quality in any way?
Thanks for your help..

-81dBm is greater than -124dBm it is a good signal strength. problem with WCDMA only mode is if there is no 3G signal there will be no service. best would be to keep on on WCDMA prefered.

Which Handset and rom?
drawback of WCDMA only is if 3G signal becomes weaker calls will drop. as you know airtel has very amazing network
Location - Hyderabad
Mobile - Samsung i9020T
Stock ROM - 2.3.3
Network Provider - Airtel.
Just change APN to Airtelgprs.com instead of airtelgprs.com (capital A for small a )

Search for "airtel gprs settings on android" on Google and select the link from dsynflo blog. I would have posted the link here, but the forum doesn't allow noobs to post links

hey smokin i have nexus s....airtel....my phone shows 3g symbol but i get only 2g speed...i did as u said....initially it was selected to gsm/cdma auto(prl) and i changed it to WCDMA only...still no change....signal strength is -83db...can u help here?
Not to sound like a completely dumb guy, but I have a Nexus One and resolved my issue by texting "3G" to 121 on Airtel. That activated 3G service and with the APN settings above, I started getting HSDPA speeds.
Hope that helps someone. Took me an hour to find that part....
So i activated 3g n put a 3g pack...
Galaxy fit..... But this goddamn Airtel gives me like 15kb/s in new Bombay....... Calling those jerks CC Temme some Bull**** that Airtel operating 3g In Maharashtra on Vodafone and Idea networks... Tells me to manually select Vodafone or idea network! (absurd! Airtel Sim registered on Vodafone network )
So i try that also... Speed 20kb/s...
Bharti mittal should resign!!
Get a Vodafone Sim... I get like 4.84mbps on cell which is terrific!!

I want to use my SGH-I337M in the UK - the phone is unlocked and I have a UK O2 4G SIM. GSM and UMTS seem to work ok, but I can't get LTE to work
Do I need to (and is it possible) to cross flash with a UK model (i.e. I9505) firmware?
Any help will be much appreciated.

You can't flash their official firmware, you can flash their ROM. I'd say check your carrier's LTE APN first, it may be putting in one that doesn't connect to LTE. Otherwise, your phone may not have the LTE band in it's radio, or it just doesn't like you ;P

The LTE configuration that O2 uses is:
800MHz, band 20, FDD
The phone was bought in Mexico, and Samsungs Mexican site says:
LTE (700 / 850 / AWS / 1,900 / 2,100 / 2,600 MHz)
However, the Canadian site says:
LTE Cat 3 (800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 MHz) * Dependent on market
So I suspect the hardware supports 800MHz no problem, but perhaps it's not configured for that out of the box - do you think I would need to flash another ROM or baseband to get this support?
Thanks.

If you can make calls but not get data, I would say you have something going on with the APN settings, do you see an APN for O2?

I can get 2G and 3G data no problem, but I can never connect to a 4G network even for calls.
The APN I have set has the following settings:
APN mobile.o2.co.uk
Proxy 193.113.200.195
Port 8080
Username o2web
Server not set
MMSC proxy not set
MMS port not set
MCC 234
MNC 10
Authentication type PAP
APN type default,soul
Bearer LTE
Mobile virtual network operator type none
My G2 D802 Lollipop rooted struggles to get 3g. I think it needs to be set to 900mhz. When I go into hidden menu its say WCDMA 850, I can click 900 and it says success but I dont think it saves as it says 850 at the top of that menu all the time. I have to have my phone set to GSM only as if I have it set to GSM/WCDMA it is always looking for 3g and cant find it so it keeps disconnecting my GSM/2g for a while.
i just used app called LG Phone From, and its brings up info about my phone. It says provider is United Arab Emirates, and network type GSM. Is this why i cant connect to 3G 900 and 2100 here in New Zealand properly? How can I change this?
First of all, you can only change 2G and 3G network bands, never 4G.
Now, to change the band you need 3 things ( 4 maybe ):
- The modem drivers for your zone.
- Custom bootloader to change it.
- An AOSP ROM ( official roms check modem and rejects 'cause it doesn't match ).
- Maybe one ---> Android Kitkat ( As far as I know Modem drivers on lollipop aren't compatible between themselves )
Bests of luck! :good:
Thanks, sounds like its going to be difficult. I will have to look into all that. I am not worried about 4g coverage, I just want 3g to work properly.
So I tried 3 different modem flashes, (2 x UK and 1 x Asian) that use same frequency as here - 900 and 2100. but they just behave the same, good 2g but no 3g signal. I just used modems that worked with my stock lollipop 30a and flashed them with twrp
Additional info, when i select gsm/wcdma/lte auto or anything else other than GSM only, it connects to G (wont go 3g or H etc) but as soon as I try to dial out it loses connection and I cant dial out, or recieve calls. Only option at present is leaving the phone set to GSM only so I can use it. as well as flashing a few different modems i have tried altering the telephony build prop number to 11 and 13 as suggested in other threads.

Did you configure the HSDPA/3G APN manually? For example here, on Argentina Claro:
Nombre: Claro AR
APN: igprs.claro.com.ar
Proxy: No definido
Puerto: No definido
Nombre de usuario: No definido
Contraseña: No definido
Servidor: No definido
MMSC: http://mms.claro.com.ar
Proxy de MMS: No definido
Puerto de MMS: No definido
Protocolo MMS: WAP 2.0
MCC: 722
MNC: 310
Tipo de autenticación: No definido
Tipo de APN: default (si no se puede ingresar, seleccionar Internet)
I had to do it to get the 3G signal, otherwise the phone doesn't know where to connect to.
PS: Please remember to click on thanks if my information is usefull!

Hi,
I live in NYC.
I just switched to T-Mobile today from AT&T, but now I can't get a LTE signal. I can make phone calls, send sms/mms, and even surf the web, but only with a H connection.
I can confirm my location has T-Mobile LTE since we also have an iPhone 7 on T-Mobile and with Ookla speed test the iPhone 7 is getting 38Mbps down.
I called T-Mobile tech support twice, they did refresh multiple times, still no LTE signal.
I am using the following settings:
APN: T-Mobile US LTE IPv6
Preferred network type: LTE
Network operators: auto
Mobile data: ON
Thanks in advance!
I'm using
T-Mobile US LTE
fast.t-mobile.com
APN roaming protocol: ipv4
APN type: default,supl
Preferred network type: LTE/GSM/WCDMA
System select: automatic
CDMA subscription: RUIM/SIM
Probably more details than you need but that's how I'm getting 4G. 68/22 speeds

I tried your settings, but I'm still getting only H, and not LTE.
Any ideas?
VS995 4G bands: LTE band 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 13(700), 20(800)
Vodafone UK 4G bands: 800 & 2600
O2 UK 4G bands: 800
So on the face of it according to the above info I should have no problem whatsoever getting LTE on the VS995.
I believe I've tried everything but I can't seem to get H+ or LTE reception on Vodafone UK or Giffgaff UK (O2), that's all I've tried so far. I've tried different APNs which mirror what I have on my Note 4 & Tab S both get LTE and I'm in the same geographical area. I haven't started to personalize the phone yet or log into Google as I want to make sure LTE works.
I do get a message coming up on my phone saying
SIM card is not from Verizon Wireless

NETWORK SETTINGS

Automatically select preferred network is selected
When I Search for all available networks this is what I get for Vodafone & O2:
vodafone UK = RAT:GSM
vodafone UK = RAT:WCDMA
O2 - UK = RAT:GSM
O2 - UK = RAT:WCDMA
O2 - UK = RAT:LTE
I've tried and checked the APN settings for Vodafone & Giffgaff which I use successfully on my other devices. Baffled am I missing something ?
