[Guide] Updating your apps for Ice Cream Sandwich - Android Software Development

Hi, just thought Id share a write up I've done on how to go about applying ICS styling to your apps. In many cases it's quite easy, and hey, we can always use more better looking apps

Gingerblur vs GladAtrix?

I see that these two seem like the most popular ROMs in development. The way I see it is that you choose between one of these and go with it, but I could be wrong, cause I'm new to the Android world.
If this is true, is there a comparison between these, so that I could choose once I get my hands on my Atrix over the next couple of days?
if you want the gingerbread theme get gingerblur, otherwise gladiatrix.
I decided to go with gladiatrix because I was going to change out the theme with one of the honeycomb themes in the themes and apps section.
Gingerblur is great and offers a lot of cool features, but if you plan on installing a different theme, gladiatrix is probably the way to go, although both provide a clean install path for themes. Its just kind of redundant to download a gignerbread theme based rom to install another theme over.
both devs did geat jobs though
Thanks, so basically:
Gingerblur = certain scripts/features + Gingerbread theme
GladAtrix = certain scripts/features
Yeah, I agree that installing the Gingerbread theme would be redundant if another theme is going to be installed, but my question now is - what are the differences between the Gingerblur and GladAtrix scripts/features?
We could potentially make a list that could be developed over time as a reference for the future. I unfortunately don't know the differences, so can't get started.
Thanks
V.
Does GladAtrix work for Bell Atrix, I know Gingerblur doesn't, but I'm hoping this one does because I'm not too happy with motoblur

Honeycomb Hope

There is hope for Honeycomb on our tablets! The og moto droid recently can run Honeycomb. So hopefully when the sourcecode is released it will run swell on the Archos 101. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13573812#post13573812
Even the G1 can run honeycomb (it was the pretty-first android device in the world^^)
But the problems are the source, and i don't think that google will release the source code, no matter why...
But i've hope for ice cream sandwich (will released ~Q4 of 2011)
This will be Android 4.0 and it will comprise Honeycomb and Gingerbread
i'm not sold on the idea that it'll work on the our gen 8's
Porting Touchscreen Drivers
Hi,
AS I understand it, the major problem is the touch screen driver.
Reading the posts here, I don't understand how can u port a driver without the source code of the current driver from Archos.
As there is no current open source driver for this screen (and yes, I have read the "Porting Touchscreen Drivers for ROM's - Instructions") So the driver needs to be written from scrap or ported from the Archos source code.
So as I understand it, our best and might be the only chance for android 3.0 port is to ask for the driver source from Archos and port it, or wait for a port from Archos to android 3.0 .
Am I getting it wrong here ?

A little bit is wrong
I summarize the hole story now:
The touchscreen drivers aren't the only problems about porting honeycomb.
If we're able to compile the drivers (as i wrote in my thread) we could bring the honeycomb Mod to run.... BUT we have no sources! Thats the biggest problem we've
There are a few honeycomb roms, but these one has many bugs (wifi dont work for example)
And i think with a little bit of work, we could get this roms to work, but with these big bugs te tablet is ruined and if google dont release the source code these roms not getting better.
I've hope on Ice Cream Sandwich.
Ok.
but we still can't do a thing without the source to the driver. Or are there any ROMs which support our screen ?

comes from ? Archos ? or is it pure android ?
Thanks for your help.

Yes we need Touchscreen drivers, where as Vegancomb is already in development which is almost in B1 phase.

Yes,but its not the only step we've to take...
Anyone who could do this (I've found an How to at the web )
what is Vegancomb
I'm pretty sure Google said they are not releasing HC source at all, period. The way I understand it is they have basically turned HC into a holdover for tablets they endorse till they compile everything together for phones and tablets with ice cream sandwich at which point the ice cream source will be released. It seems to be to keep just anybody from throwing HC on a device and selling it and possibly causing a bad user experience and making google look bad. Also most likely to help with fragmentation issues.
None of this of course helps us any....just what I've read and how I understood everything.

sorry i meant VegaComb BETA 1.3

CM7 on A500?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has thought about porting CM7 to the A500? I run CM7 on my Thunderbolt and love it...and while I know that it is Gingerbread, I would still be interested in checking it out on a tablet. I have read that CM7 has tablet tweaks and stuff.
Unfortunately, I am no dev...however if there are any devs out there who are bored and looking for something to do this might be fun
Thanks!
yup, I bought my iconia last week, and ran a search on the whole iconia forum for "cyanogenmod" and got 0 hits. When I asked about that I got some responses about how CM7 ran on 2.3, so our honeycomb ROMs on 3.x were already more advanced, like they didn't know about google forking Android for the honeycomb line. While I'm enjoying my iconia with OC taboony, as far as I can tell all of the hc changes have more to do with being flashy than functional. I expect we'll see more tablet love from CM devs with icecream sandwich, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at an unofficial port in the meantime.

Leaked Ice Cream Sandwich Market

Hi all,
it seems ICS's market has been leaked as well...
Following instructions here it is working for me nicely on honeyvillain 1.2 :
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/10/10/download-android-market-version-3-2-0/
have fun,
schaze
Great find. Hopefully we don't get fc's like the other recent ics leaks. Will test this later
I have 3.1.5 on my phone and on my Galaxy pad. So it is a small update and thats it. Its not very good i don't like it it at all. I'm sure 3.2 HC will have it soon enough.
Oh, that's it! Taboonay 2.2 includes this update)
I've been using it for a few days, its a different look and feel but the purchase pin feature is a winner...
Perfectly work on my iconia A500 whit virtuos galaxy 1.0.5
Bye to next and greatings

ICS voice search

I have tried ICS, I like it but its way far off from being a daily rom for me. I do love the new voice search and was wondering if there is an apk for it to go onto my Swag rom???? Is there a way to get the new ICS voice search as an installable apk for my sense rom???
Is anything comparable available via Marketplace?
I'm not sure I know Swype has something new, Dragon dictation. But I really like the ice cream sandwich dictation. I'm going to search Hopefully I can find something.
update- after doing a little gogling i found that the framework is definetly not compatible for the voice search so ill just have to wait for ICS to become more stable for everyday use. :-( Hopefully sooner than later.
