So NoDo was finally released this morning.
Well, for the EU people anyway (don’t get me started).
Windows Phone 7, by default, stores your operator identifier in a sneaky registry key, which is checked by the Windows Update Client running on the phone. This identifier is then used to check if the updates have been approved for your operator. If they are slow, like Telstra here is in Australia, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
So, let’s tell you how you can “un-brand” (this won’t remove the boot splash screen) your phone so it appears to be a generic handset to the Update Servers.
Your device needs to be dev-unlocked for this to work. Sorry folks.
1. Download this zip file and deploy the 3 xap files onto your device.
2. Run the ChevronWP7.Ringtones.xap and wait till it displays “Ringtones added… and CustClear.provxml underneath”
3. Run the TouchXplorer app, navigate to My DocumentsMy Ringtones click on CustClear.provxml and select Copy from the Application Bar.
4. Navigate back inside TouchXplorer to the Windows folder.
5. Select paste from the Application Bar, this should scroll right to the bottom and put a copy of CustClear.provxml in the Windows folder.
6. Now run the Connection Setup application and click on the Ok button (it’s the one with the tick).
And now you’re done and free to re-connect to Zune and check for updates.
Again, this is ONLY for HTC devices.

Hi guys! I didn't test this method for HD2 yet cause I still on Android. Try it out.
Has this been cooked for the HD2 already? I'll give it a try as long as I know it won't brick my HD2
IT ONLY SHOWS PHONE UPDATE FEB 2011
any idea why i am not able to see nodo update
There is another thread about this already in Q&A and General. It seems as though this method is for native WP7 devices to work around zonal or carrier based restrictions.
It has been tried on an HD2 in the other thread and the same registry issues that affected the February update prevail. This does not appear to be a solution for HD2 owners.
just tried out and still having the error happening same error

Yeah, this tread can be deleted, seems to be not working for hd2 in any way.
i have big problem my phone is locked ... and i cant unlock it since they disconnected the unlock tool what should i do guys
okay okay i fixed the unlock thing and everything and did this but this didn't work out on hd2 .. ill try more and let ya know guys
Yea, just playing around, problem is in registry.
hello,
do you know if it works on HD2 ? if I try, will I keep everything (sms, apps, ...) ?
thanks !
This does not work, it has been said hundreds times
Has everybody been taking crack lately?
How do you expect to be able to do a official update to NoDo when our roms are modded to work on the HD2, its not a native rom so even if you could get it to update through official channel it would very likely break the installation anyway.
Use some common sense guys have some patience and wait for the update to be cooked into HD2 rom.
Hi,
I just updated my Omnia 7 to Mango and now 'Samsung zone' has gone from the Marketplace completely. I can't even find samsung apps using the search in Markerplace.
Does anybody have/had the same issue? How can I get 'Samsung zone' back?
I can't wait to see that new Now app...
Yeah happened to me. I did a hard reset (wiped everything) and after id signed set everything back up and signed into windows live it came back about 10 mins later
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Have you changed something in the registry?
Then I haven't this problem, who I have updated to Mango, "Samsung Zone" was in the Marketplace. Try this:
Download and deploy WP7 Root Tools 0.7:
WP7 Root Tools (credits by Heathcliff74)
then launch the app and go to this registry path:
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\
you can see the OEMName key, change the key (string) to SAMSUNG.
(OEMName:SAMSUNG)
Then reboot your device. Enjoy.
Greetings.
It is on SAMSUNG for me, but I'm in the Netherlands (so after Mango I started using an NL live id). Maybe that also has something to do with it.
Did you forced Mango update? If that is true, than you probably didn't receive Samsung firmware, and still using the old one. So, here are the instructions to install firmware - than you will gain access to Samsung zone.
Link: goo.gl/37TI4
Nope, I've got all the updates including firmware, radio and bootloader.

Same here, after (dev) mango switching to a portuguese id it was gone and didn't come back with retail mango. Got the firmware update too.
Hello
I was wondering what happend after using the hard reset method 'camera - volume down + power button".
"Then press Windows button twice to confirm."
What happens after this?
The device will be back on 7004 build (the one it came with) / i'll have to flash a rom on it / ...
I don't know what happens at this point so I want to be sure.

Really? Because it asks me to format.. So format seems a bit more than just erasing personal info.
I always though hard reset would bring the device back to original state (incl build)
So there's no way to go back before mango, besides flashing?

Had nokia drive xap on it, by using Samsung tools it messed up the whole thing and i had again maximum unsigned apps on it so it wouldn't start anymore (incl samsung tools, advanced config, registry editor etc..)
I want to be able to have all of that back, but at the moment that's not possible with current setup.

Yeah I noticed (the hard way) And for some strange reason the button to click 'restore' was not present in zune.. stupid thing
What do you think of this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571068
Can I just flash it like other roms?
Or do you advice another one? If you could help me with that ?
I have a samsung omnia 7, location: belgium, not provider linked (i read all the time something about providers en locations so I thought it would be useful to mention it.

Thank you. I have flashed it with tango V3, works great and love the full unlocked features like "download from IE", change search key to open another app etc.
And now all of my interop apps, nokia drive 2.0 especially, are working again
IMPORTANT:
If you are having issues with the lockscreen settings or selecting the theme color, make sure all your language cabs have been updated.
This is usually caused by missing a langauge cab

Like title says: WP7.8 is out, has anyone gotten an update, without installing via cabsender?
The important question is if there are any oem updates out, and if there are if anyone can capture their urls.
Edit: my install history: shipped with 7720 -> manually updated to 8773 -> manually updated to 8858, it installs and seems to be working fine with 7720 drivers.
Need to test more thoroughly though, but it installed and boots.

Tried updating using the force update method, Zune came back with "Update ready for 7.10.8779.8", which I tried to update to, but then during the backup the update failed. I'm pretty sure the 7.10.8779.8 is a Nokia only update, but I am not sure.
Will try updating again over the next few days, see what happens.

8779 is a generic update, and it always has been.
It was simply not released widely and noone bothered to leak the update urls.
You have to upgrade though 8779 to get to 8858, everyone that recieved updates to 8858 did so

"Simply open Zune and go to the Settings. Now instead of just clicking on the 'Update' button and waiting, what you need to do is disconnect your computer from the internet while Zune is still checking for the update. You need to do this about 3-4 seconds after you see the 'Checking for Updates' progress bar pop up. It may take a few tries, but eventually it should work."

Just updated unlocked T-Mobile Dell Venue Pro using Cab Sender method. Worked like a charm!
IT WORKED!!!!
My backup was taking too long on the force update method, so I deleted all my music and videos and some of the apps, then had to perform the force update method 3 times, and the last update was 7.8!!

I updated using cab sender method, and it worked like a charm. However, as I notice, a contact still miss the entry of "Mobile 2" (unlike Windows Phone 8). Do all of you think it's as intended to miss this entry?

What does that mean? I dont use my VP as a primary.
Do you mean that for a contact with 2 stored phone numbers it doesnt allow you to enter it/it doesnt pick it up when searching/something else?

Hi Manii, in Windows Phone 7.8, you're able to save a contact with
Mobile
Home
Home 2
Work
Work 2
Company
Pager
Home fax
Work fax
However, on Windows 8 you have one more field: Mobile 2. The shortcoming from Windows 7.8 is, once one of my friend has more than 1 number, I will have to store the second one as "Home", not "Mobile 2" and this number can not be texted directly (SMS).
We can workaround it, however stock support is better for sure!

You're right about that: I can confirm that mobile 2 is strangely missing, WP7 itself simply does not support it.
You can add "mobile 2" via the win8 people app or the the people section of live.com and it simply does not appear.
MS/Live accounts simply are not able to handle custom labels on fields period, if you're like me and use gApps as your primary account source and have custom labels: they simply do not appear at all via live connected apps (wp7/win8/live.com).
You would need either to be less descriptive or have multiple entries to replicate the same thing via live accounts.
You cant even manually create a "mobile 2" label and expect it to show up under wp7.
You would need to completely bypass live accounts to add custom fields, it's an inherent limitation of live.
That or live with the fact you would simply have no way of syncing at least that to live.

If you're already on Tango (8773), just download these CABs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37384687&postcount=1478, repeating procedure separately for each update pack. Actually, I always used English (US) language, so downloaded only corresponding packages:
For first update downloaded:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/dflt/2012/05/diff-7.10.8773.98-7.10.8779.8-armv7-retail-microsoft.pks_b9598a098a3a4e902d043cef778a79ff3e6b0869.cab

And installed using CAB Sender (for instructions on using it, look at this post).
Then, did the same for two other update packs.
Second one:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/dflt/2012/10/diff-iucorefixed-7.10.8779.8-7.10.8783.12-armv7-retail-microsoft.pks_8a50b92b21951c7baf9f3600cea8c77e0918021f.cab
Third one:

Of course, if you use other language than English (US), you will need other lang packs from each update as well (notice *lang_0409* in package names here).
After installing 3rd update pack, you will be successfully running Windows Phone 7.8.
Good luck!

ya it works, I got my Tmobile DVP up using the cab sender method to 7.8.
Someone wanna comment on the firmware for the bootloader/radio etc?
Here are my Specs:
OS: 7.10.8858.136
Firmware: 2250.1800.7720.219
Hardware: 112.576.2.0
Radio: 2.2.50.18
Bootloader: 7.27.1.0
To be honest I feel that 7.8 made the device slower for me. 7.5 Mango was much faster. Just my experience.

I think the keyboard can be changed in the EM app. (If you don't have that app, it is described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195463)
You need to unlock the hidden menu and then select "Service Center". There is an option for the keyboard layout.
I don't know about the system language.
How did you flash to 7004?
