Download this tool and follow the instructions. Do NOT try, do not wonder, just read and do, no try, just do.
PS> You'll be on the US version unless you change the flash image to the UK. Not sure what the difference is anyway. If you have to have an UK version then you can download one from ACER and put it on your SD Card and use recovery to flash it.

Original Telus HTC Hero ROM Image???

Guys,
I am interested in rooting my Telus Hero, but I am wanting to know if there is an original ROM image available for the Telus variant so that I can restore the phone to factory configuration if I need to. I mainly want to do this to install the Google Turn-By-Turn Navigation on it.
Thanks,
Y2J
just do a nandroid backup of your telus rom before flashing...
In order to do a Nandroid backup I have to root the phone first correct? If this is the case, then there is no way to unroot the phone to it's default out of box state, correct?
Thanks,
Y2J
Not quite correct, but close enough so as not to matter.
You don't need to be rooted to run Nandroid, but you do need to boot a custom recovery image. On earlier stock ROMs, it was possible to boot a recovery image without flashing it do the device, but this probably isn't an option for you since I guess the Telus Hero has the new SPL which disallows this.
What you really need is an original Telus RUU, but I'm not aware if this publicly exists.
Regards,
Dave
That's correct, there's no public Telus RUU.
If you really want a Telus stock ROM to revert to, wait till the eclair update comes out.
@y2jdmbfan
I was in the same boat as you. Wanted to use custom ROM but always wanted to have to option to go back to stock Telus ROM. I lasted a little over a month and bit the bullet. To be honest, if you are comfortable with customs roms and general phone hacking then I don't think there's a need to wait. There are some good stable custom roms out there and I don't see a need to ever go back to stock Telus (unless you need warranty work perhaps? but not sure).
I may bite the bullet tonight and try it out. I am using mine on AT&T in the USA anyways, so warranty work is out of the question.
To be honest, if you've flashed a custom ROM and you phone does go wrong, in order to get it back to stock your phone would need function to such an extent that you could load an RUU on to it - if it was completely dead or the USB died, it wouldn't matter if you had an RUU because you wouldn't be able to install it anyway.
Regards,
Dave

Just do it.
I have mine running on Rooted 2.73.405.66
Everything stock except it was rooted. Works great.
Hey, how did you root it on the stock?
Did you need to downgrade RUU?
I know I had too... could you make a ROM for all the people that want the stock..
If you want to go back to Telus 2.1 here's the link to the rom:

[Q] Returning a Liquid E to stock

Hey guys,
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but I've searched around without any luck. Looks like I didn't do a nandroid backup of my stock ROM with Rogers, and now I'm experiencing the hardware problem with the primary speaker not working. Tried reflashing the current ROM on the phone without any luck, and now Rogers is replacing it, but I'd rather not dish out more money when the see it's been changed.
Anyone have any suggestions, or perhaps a stock rom image from a nandroid backup they did with rogers?
Everything you need is in post #11 of this MoDaCo thread- http://android.modaco.com/content/acer-liquid-liquid-modaco-com/317403/acer-lquid-e-rom-upgrade/
Best of luck in getting your device replaced.
That's awesome. Thanks for the link. I'll try this out later tonight.
Ok...so I have been reading and have been quite disappointed...As most of you are aware Rogers and Fido now have the new 2.2 OS out for the Acer liquid e however I am running a leaked version with Malez...and from what I can tell acer did something and because of what I did and from what I can tell I will now not be able to update to the stock rom. From what I can tell it somehow recognizes that the phone is rooted and because of that it cannot be updated..Will this work around help with this problem?

Go to Modaco and search for "fido rogers any phone", something like that.
I did however for some reason I keep getting an error when flashing with the acer tool...I just gave up after a while..tried for over 2 days...I am not sure if it is my computer or some kind of issue with the software

You did what? If you went to Modaco and got the rom by alan009 then you need to flash it with Malez, not acer tools. Acer tools is only meant to flash .bin files. Plus if you read that thread there are a ton of people doing it and asking questions, so no need to get stuck.
Good Luck.
Oh...maybe I did get the info from that post..I was using a set of instructions that I downloaded...It was how to put back your acer to stock rogers rom...It had all the instructions and instructed me to use the acer tool and flash something...It was a while back...I will have to go back and check it out then...I bought the new dell streak and a galaxy s so I kind of put the acer on the back burner...When i get some time i will check it out...thanks man
Looking for stock Recovery.img
Hey guys ^^
I'm looking for the stock recovery.img that comes with Liquid E. The link mentioning where I can find what I need in the above posts has expired but It has lead me to what I believe I need. All except the original recovery.img
I need to send my phone in for repairs. I accidently blew my speakers(both front speaker and back) Its pretty much my fault. Im a welder and I got metal shards in the speakers and I used a magnet to get them out. A big no no lol. Im hoping to pull a fast one on Acer considering I've had the speaker problems where I cant hear the person calling me.
Anywho, I believe I have my old nandriod back up. Im just hoping it not my nandriod back up from my G1. =s Any tips on what I can do to find the stock recovery.img from rogers would be cool and maybe some advice what to check befor I send in my Liquid E? Much Appreciated ^^
PS! My nandroid back up Is rooted I thinks. Do I need to un-root befor I send it in?
If all goes well Ill make sure to put up a link to help the next person in my position. Including my nandroid back up
Ciao - Terry

I flashed the bin and it replaced Malez, Im assuming this is the stock recovery.img. but now I need to install Malez to restore my nandroid back up. Im not quite sure how to pull out the recovery.img and then put it back in when I'm done. help?!

Bought N1 on eBay - how to "unroot?"

Yes, I know. Why do I want to unroot? Well, the AT&T Nexus One is stuck on 2.1 update 1 and the baseband of the phone is unlocked.
How can I return to bone stock so that I receive all OTA updates. I'm good with what google pushes out and really don't want to fool with homebaked updates.
Thanks!
Read my signature, follow "unroot/restore" guide.
Your bootloader has been unlocked, not baseband. So follow the guide for unlocked bootloader. Use FRG83G ROM straight from HTC.
Thanks. Doing this now.
Actually, do I just follow the "fastboot" method and that's it?
Yes. Having unlocked bootloader makes things easier...

How so? I'm not really certain I am good with the method in the FAQ. I'm not familiar with adb and fastboot. In fact, I have no idea how to do these methods.
I am googling and reading as much as I can, but it's a bit intimidating. Any video walkthrough or idiot proof document that shows exactly what to type, etc?
Sorry, I'm just not as into this as most here (but I'm very eager to learn).

Try and follow these instructions, I think it may be the easiest way for a beginner. It doesnt unlock boot loader but it roots your phone and gets 2.3 on it. Good luck

Thanks.
The phone I have already has an unlocked boot loader (there is an "unlocked" lock image below the nexus image upon reboot).
I believe returning to stock is as easy as downloading a factory N1 image, re-naming it to update.zip (or is it passimg.zip?) and running it from the boot loader...right?
I'm actually afraid to do this for fear of bricking this thing. All I want to do is go to a stock version of Android from the current 2.1-update1 Build EPE54B rom that came with this N1 so I can OTA up to the current 2.2.2 (or whatever) official google version is out. I'd like to go OTA from here on out, which the phone will not do now (stuck on 2.1 and saying "your software is up to date").
Is it as easy as what I suggested or am I a mega-noob?
Sorry for giving you the wrong info, I miss read the thread. I havent ever unrooted would hate to give you the wrong advice on the proccess. Sorry Im not more help
Since you are rooted and nervous about bricking your phone you can do this.
Flash a custom recovery if there is not one already on the phone via rom manager. Then in rom manager back up your rom (nandroid) . There is even a stock rom in rom manager that you can download and install all in rom manager. That will put the default recovery back as well. The phone will then the OTA's to the latest one.
Or you can just flash any other rom etc. It is really hard to actually brick the phone.

Thanks. Downloaded the Rom Manager, and guess what? The phone isn't rooted (I don't know anything about it .... just received it used from eBay).
The boot loader is definitely unlocked though and it's stuck on 2.1.
I will figure out the one-click root and go from there. Is that the best advice?

I would go that route if I was you. It is very quick and simple and noob friendly. You could also use the guides the other posters put up to learn some things as well.
Not sure why your phone is "stuck" at 2.1 in the first place. But yeah rooting/rom manager should do the trick quickly and easy.
Turns out I was able to install superuser, so it's rooted. Not sure why Rom manager complained about it not being rooted.
This is a pain in the ass so far. I will just try to flash to a ~light~ 2.3 ROM. Don't want a bunch of battery draining stuff. Recommendations?
Also, I still want to go to bone stock so I can get google OTAs. Oh well. Maybe I'll figure it out one day.

The 2.3 ROMs aren't really "ready" yet, and I don't know if I would really recommend them to a new user. Very buggy. If you can get ROM Manager to work (which should be as easy as installing it from the Market if you have root), then go to "Download ROM" and find your way to CyanogenMod 6.1.1. It will ask you if you want to install gapps as well, and you should select yes.
Once a phone has been unlocked and had custom roms installed on it, there's no way to ever go back to completely stock with OTA updates unfortunately. CyanogenMod is probably the cleanest and most supported rom you can find, but another would be Enomther's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614427).

Thanks. Well, I'm a total idiot. My passion.zip was passion.zip.zip. Nonetheless, the FAQ .zip original image file was "older than the currently installed version."
I'm done. I'm just going to play in the rooted 2.3 world. Currently downloading CyanogenMod's latest nightly for passion.
So, I am curious. Does this file I'm downloading update the radio and everything else? I'm certain the firmware versions for the radio, etc, are outdated.
Thanks.
EDIT: On second thought, is there a large reason not to go with a nightly? The latest stable version is two months old...I want clean and fast with minimal battery drain, etc.
You can always go back to stock and get the OTAs from Google. Only thing you can't do is relock the bootloader. ALWAYS can do it.

The only reason not to go with the nightly build is stability. CM7 isn't ready for general use yet, and there are a lot of problems still. Last time I used it the phone app was almost completely unusable and would lock up whenever someone called. It doesn't hurt to try it out though. You can always flash something else if it's not stable enough for you.

Nope, this isn't true. Once the signed boot loader is replaced, there's no more OTA's. You can get the notification that an update is available, but they wont install. Once the clockwork or ra_recovery are installed, OTAs will never work again. There is currently NO way to go back to 100% stock on a Nexus One.
Jesus. I'm going to jump off a bridge.
I successfully installed the STABLE CM6 update (radio update, google apps). My GD N1 keeps rebooting.
WHERE can I find a stable 2.2.2 or 2.2.1 stock ROM and end this madness. All I want to do is use this phone. It's currently possessed.

its not defective and at this point its just a matter of time until you fix it.
If you still want to be stock, ignore below and follow the links to restoring the stock rom above.
a) do you have a custom recovery installed? (i.e a nice navigable menu) if not flash one from a terminal/shell (on your desktop) in fastboot mode (power+trackball to start the phone, choose fastboot)
b)since you dont have much to lose, wipe everything after rebooting into recovery mode.
c)flash any ROM that works with your phone. (the LCD nexus ones need a different version I think)
When you install a stock rom it overwrites the custom recovery everytime it boots. It always does this. The unlocked boot loader is irrelevant the OTA's.
He or anybody else can flash a stock rom and get the ota.

Acer stock roms offline

Hi, I'm trying to revert to 100% stock (unrooted), but all the links for stock roms from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
seem to be offline (i.e. http://vache-android.com and http://cdn.acer.futuredial.com are both unavailable). Anyone know if there are mirrors for these files? Specifically, I'm looking for a 3.2.1 stock rom for the A501.
Thanks!
EDIT:
I found a link to the latest 3.2.1 stock COM_GEN1 full package for the A501 via the russian forums. Filename: 'SD_Acer_A501_Android 3.2.1_4.066.29_COM_GEN1(www.mobims.ru).zip' can be downloaded here.
novedM Wilson,
No one knows where to get an acer stock rom for A501? Sorry to bump - or have I posted in the wrong forum? I just need to return to stock (unrooted) to test something.

Well, Acer closed off all the files, so we no longer get to them.
Vache, had to get rid of his server for personal reasons, so those links are also no good. Eventually I suspect he'll get things in order and we'll get some of those links back.
Which rom are you looking for? ICS or HC? I have a few, some full HC roms, and some ICS patch updates.
Remember, a lot of people live in different times zones, and also have jobs and family, so sometimes it takes awhile to reply

Thanks MD. I totally understand everyone's got other committments, I have both of those commitments too I'm looking for stock unrooted HC 3.2.1 ideally, but 3.2 is fine (I can then do OTA update to get to 3.2.1). I'm in Australia, so I think the rom I need is Acer_A501_4.066.29_COM_GEN1, but any COM_GEN1 for A501 would be appreciated.
BTW Currently I'm running your fantastic and stable 3.2.1 Alexandra III v1.1, thanks for you hard-work in putting that together.
Well I got my hands on a brand-new A501 from Acer, just unboxed. So I will now try to find out how to extract an image of the ROM before doing anything else. Any tips appreciated!
EDIT: Before anyone posts a http://lmgtfy.com/ link, I found it should be just a matter of using DD from the android sdk.
EDIT #2: Hmm looks like I need root access to use DD, can someone point me in the right direction for dumping a full image without having to root the tablet first? The tablet is currently running Android 3.2.1, kernel 2.6.36.3+ and build Acer_A501_4.066.31_COM_GEN1. Thanks.

Rooting the 3.2 is going to be a pain, and you will lose the current image. If I remember correctly, you have to "roll back" to an unstable 3.0.1 and use Iconiaroot.apk. Not what you want in this case,
The other option, was to use Timmy Deans 3.2 root kit, but then again, it installs a 3.2 EUU for an a500 on your tab. Again, not what you want.
You could try the newer "gingerbreak", although I myself would not go this way, only because I don't trust methods that aren't approved by us devs. But would use only as a last chance.
EDIT: Important note. Whatever you try, Get the current UID number before you do it. It's the only safeguard if things go bad. You can run USBDview (search the forums) to get it, or they have several other tools to get it.

I agree this is a last chance since it would mean I'd need to reverse the changes done by that app to remove su and and superuser apk after dumping the image.

Hi,
I just happened to read this thread and already downloaded your official ROM. I am also using your 3.2.1 Alexandra III v1.1 and planning to revert it back to the official firmware. At first, I try flashing the SD_Acer_A501_1.309.02_COM_GEN1 ROM and succeeded. However, when I try to update, I always get the "your device is up to date" message. But now, I am planning to flash my A501 with your ROM and hopefully will be able to update my A501 normally. I want to say thank you for uploading this ROM.
I flashed the ROM MD uploaded, worked fine, thanks MD. However I also get 'Your device is up to date' when running 'System Update'. Currently the tablet is running Android 3.2, but 3.2.1 is definitely available, as that is what I have running on my other A501 I just recently unboxed. I'm guessing this is because http://cdn.acer.futuredial.com is offline, hence no acer tablet can be updated right now!?! I also tried vache's OTA Check tool but it also says no update available. I guess that's for the same reason.
For me, my problem is solved since I can live with 3.2 for now, however if anyone wants 3.2.1 stock ROM for A501, I happy to have a go at gingerbreak-ing my 3.2.1 stock tablet in order to dump an image.
Well, it seems http://cdn.acer.futuredial.com is back ONLINE  So many of those links on vache's post are working again. I'm interested if anyone has a way to construct the file name need for a particular package/update, e.g. what would be the file name for the full package for Acer_A501_4.066.31_COM_GEN1. It seems each file name a post-fix with some numbers and hash (e.g. http://cdn.a1.futuredial.com/Acer_A501_0.000.00_4.037.01_EMEA_TMPL_1316069683762_98ed1d97.zip). Has anyone tried to work out how that post-fix is generated? This would allow us to get any package easily...

Hi, could you please upload that 3.2.1 tmpl ROM? I've reverted recently to 3.2 TMPL and it does not want to update. I heard that there is already TMPL ics OTA available.

Roll Back to stock ICS

Hi Guys,
I have just sold my Iconia A500 and the new buyer wants me to return the tab back to stock ICS.
I have did a few searches but can't find the info what i am looking for.. currently the tab has the following on it
Skirlax_CZ unlocked bootloader (0.03.12)
CWM Recovery
AOKP rom
I don't want to go in ham fisted and brick the tab so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Easy as pie. Flash the stock 3.1 (Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1.zip) AFTER WIPING SYSTEM/CACHE/DATA/DELVIC, reboot, then ota to ICS. After you do the first OTA to 3.2 and it reboots it will say a Flashing Bootloader message then reboot with all stock everything.
Here's a link to it in my dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fpdy13u4ufec461/Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1.zip
That was along the lines of what i thought... but i did not want to just do it without checking.
Thanks for the link and post.
Hi there,
Did you get back to stock ICS using this method?
I want to get back to stock ICS so I can use AFTEROTA to unlock my bootloader the "easy" way. - I tried installing some "stock" roms last night but (3.2) but none of them offered me the ICS OTA.
I assume that to do the OTA I just go into the settings under About Tablet >System updates and check from there?
Are there any regional restrictions on the OTA? - I know Australia is sometimes behind with android updates.

Just grab that rom from my post and flash it in CWM after wiping.

You are correct. System/about/update all the way to ICS.

I have no idea... But I doubt it.
Thanks JdgM3NT4L,
I installed the the rom but when I go into System/about/update it comes up with:
No update
Your device is up to date.
I did not log in to my google account - but I doubt that would have anything to do with the Acer update.
Any suggestions?

Give it a few days. Also, check the market and make sure the Iconia Update Enhancement is shown as installed. It should be. If not, install it.
MD
Thanks MD,
Will give it a shot.
If waiting it out takes more time that you want you could go to blackthund3r's thread in the Dev section here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560, and grab the OTA's.
I have no idea about getting OTA's when not in the United States. It's seems strange to me because immediately after booting my tab and updating the Enhancement App my updates are available right away.
Please share your results and what you had to do to get updated. Especially if anything is different than expected. I'm hoping that it OTA's for you without a problem.
Thank you.
Still waiting on the update - I am not in a rush. Will let you know when it comes through
Thanks for the help
Still waiting on the OTA....
Am getting impatient. I think I will try this:

reading the thread it says that they should be flashed by the stock recovery - however my recovery is not stock - it is touch based on Ra recovery.
how do I go about flashing these if my recovery is not stock?
Finally gave up waiting and manually flashed the OTA. Then it was easy to use afterota to install bootloader and recovery. not sure why I didn't get the OTA from Acer.
