I heard there was an application for iphones that counted pushups and situps. Is there any like this for android? What applications do you feel are the best for fitness on android?

Droidfit and Sportypal get my vote.

I use Calorie Counter by Fat secret. Doesn't count push ups and all that but it's free and has food and exercise diaries and a weight tracker. Pretty good if you're trying to keep your weight down and watch what you eat. Honestly haven't even tried the exercise part yet.
I like the Cardiotrainer app, from work smart labs. GPS based tracking and distance, calorie counter. Its free, and uses some paid addons, but is fully funtional for the free version. can be set for different paces, ie running, walking, biking, etc. Has online tracking as well as global "leaderboard", which is fun. Can also be used indoors with pedometer.
I just started using DroidFit and I think it is a nicely done app. You have to manually input all the information but I think that helps give you a more precise experience.

I use Mens Health & Run Keeper.
I recall using an app that you used once a day, and it gave you a simple task to perform (like standing on your tippy toes for 15 seconds). Then you mark it as done and it tells you how many others have done that task. I've been trying to remember the name of it. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

It's gotten a little.... green.
Welcome to about last week.
... and the market still sucks. No way to sort by popularity or # of downloads, search results usually yield Asian crap unrelated to your query, and its slow.
I love Android, I love tinkering with it, but they really need to fix the market. When I search for "xda developer" I shouldn't get pages upon pages of garbage in a language I can't speak. I should also be able to filter searches by free, paid, rating, downloads, etc.
</rant>
Very much a mess still... Oh well

I knew it was out but i dont have it still!
New market doesn't show my downloaded free apps! Anyone got the same problem? If so, how is it solveable? BTW, if I search for those apps, then they show as installed - but not in my apps. Go figure.

I don't like the barf green at all. Other than that it seems to work fine so far, I haven't had an stuck in authorizing/installing issues like I had before yet. But I have had it lag a bit several times.
I do wonder if this is partially my SD card failing or something.
I have to admit being an app designer myself. It looks ****ty and amateur. However the usability fells much better.
Google pretty much build solid apps but design sucks. Just imagine I'd they invested in good designers, they would kick ass.

Clear market cache and something from the settings. Restart after clearing cache.
My old market didn't show downloaded free apps any more. What I did was go to preferences - applications. Then to market and erase its data.
After starting market I had the new market! And all installed apps were visible again.
I prefer not to have an option to sort by ratings/download number. If available, people would search for something, sort the list by ratings and download the top one or the second.
Not being able to sort by ratings gives less known applications the opportunity to shine in the market.
GetJar is giving out 100 paid apps for free. Here is the site to get an idea of what they are offering and the getjar.apk.
Side note: GetJar runs as a service in the background, so what I do is find the app I want, download it and either uninstall or "freeze" it to stop the service from running and eating my data/battery [see my guide for more detail on this].
Have fun and happy downloading (and unlike the Market sale, there are actually some utility/productivity apps included).
GetJar is offering over 100 paid Android apps for free! To compete against Google’s 10 Billion App Downloads promotion and Amazon’s “One Paid App for free everyday“, GetJar has come out with its own offering which is better than both the Google’s official Android market and Amazon’s app market.
Usually when offers like this come about the apps are quite crap, this is not the case with GetJar’s deal. Some notable apps which are being offered for free are Paper Camera, TweetCaster Pro, They Need To Be Fed, Splashtop Remote Desktop and more.
All you have to do to access the free apps is download GetJar for your mobile by hitting this url into your mobile phone browser - m.getjar.com/gold
You can check out all the apps available here - GetJar have very nicely laid out all the apps on a side-scrolling type page.

Thanks for this I just got some nice apps for free!! But where did you get all 100? I don't think it shows a 100 on that website or in the app

Just what I read in the source site. First line says Getjar gives 100 away. Glad you got some good ones.
hmmm Word Up!
Getjar giving away stuff...how novel!
What they do not tell you is that their crappy app runs constantly in the background! Unlike amazon or android market Getjar is a real battery drain!
With our poor vibrants battery life being what it is, I personally would rather keep it "alive" longer for other things than scanning getjars web site for news/files.
If they were to change this detail, then it would be worth revisiting untill then not for me.
Hope this helps!

Nice thing is you can remove it after you get the apps you want and you don't need it to run them.
yeah the app itself runs your battery like water... i dont understand why but i uninstalled it after i saw in 5 minutes my battery decreased 10%
Hence my sidenote in the OP about it running as a background service. I've seen that same drain before on other times I have used it. That is why I usually get what I need and then kick the app to the curb.
Just curious are we able to update these apps through the regular Android market

Usually not. They do get linked to the Market though; so you'll get an update alert. But when you try to update you'll get a message saying you can't because "you didn't pay for the app." A little annoying; but it's true.
Once in a while it does work though. I think I was able to update Paper Camera a while ago.

That's the downside when you get apps from Getjar. But their free apps are really good, even better than Amazon appstore.

Exactly my point... u miss out on new features on updates. Its a good way of previewing apps before u buy though.

I got a few apps the other day and none of them are showing up in my Market. I'm not new to GetJar, I know they aren't going to update, but I've been having problems with my phone and would like to know if this is happening to anyone else.
Been using it for about 6 months now and there have been some real good apps.
try redownloading the apps once an update is shown in Market.
Sometimes it takes them a while but they do update the versions in GetJar.
cheers

Anybody heard of this?
Seems like a cool idea kind of like Admob but seems better.
I refuse to use apps that have that it's annoying as hell seeing my notification drawer with an ad, or I block them..

Why the hell would anyone support that idea? Ads in notification bar? That's intrusive as hell.

The idea of making money is nice but yes I know the problem with ads in apps are annoying.

you guys should all look for "addons detector" in the market. it tells you exactly how intrusive ads are in each app.
Eww... ads

But if we used ad block would it still get the developer or advertiser money? Or would it have to be clicked on to actually initiate.

Ads in apps are hardly the issue here. Airpush ads show up even when the app is supposed to be closed, which means an unwanted background service and the battery drain to go with it. Some apps have even used airpush to present ads disguised as reputable notifications, like the android version of the web popup that looks like antivirus software. And none of them will indicate which app they came from (because the developers who use it know that their app would be uninstalled after the first ad)
But if you can't earn money legitimately, have no clue what people really want or just don't care, then this would probably seem like an attractive option (maybe even so much that you might be tempted to make a thread about it in a forum somewhere...)
Here are two apps to help you find and remove apps that are made by developers who know they won't earn much through the merit of their work alone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.denper.addonsdetector
The first one is open source, and I can vouch for its effectiveness. The developer of that app believes that the main appeal of his app is that it is open source, but if that doesn't matter to you then he actually recommends the second app in his app's market description, because it has better features

Unless I'm mistaken, the only way devs get money for ads is when people actually click on them - even if we don't use adblock, ignoring the annoying banners has the same effect on the developers' accounts
That's why some apps seem to have crappy layouts, such that you accidentally click an ad instead of the button you were aiming for. The layout often was actually much more carefully planned out than it seems.
And that brings me to another shady aspect of airpush ads - clicking on the notification is like clicking the ad. I don't mind ads where I have a choice, but even CM's swipe-to-dismiss feature doesn't necessarily clear out the notification permanently - the only sure-fire way to clear it out is to click on it, so the only way to clear the ad is to click the ad or uninstall the offending app... I always use the second option, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one

Hi,
I am looking for true reviews from developers and users out there! I have just launched my app without beta testing and now I want feedback about game play and user experience! I am not forcing anyone to give 5*.
Just take a look at my game and let me know how you found it! I'll be happy to make it a better user experience in future updates.
Feel free to post your app Links and I'll let you know how I feel about your App as well!

Nice app thanks
But:
Some sreenshoots are wrong horizontal - not nice
Can't find app by name only by your developer name
and annoing fullscreen ad - maybe make in app purchase for free ad app?
I like the design of your app, but ads are really irritating! Maybe you should make smaller ads?
Will be glad if you tell me what you think about my app - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.triladroid.gps

Thanks for your review mate! I just launched my app maybe that is why it is not showing in search results.
Any suggestions on how to have a better app ranking?
I will launch an Ads-free version soon!
The screenshot you are talking about are for tabs. Should I put a gameplay screenshot?
Thanks

It is tough. I am a thesis away from a phd in computational physics. I have been highly successful in high level mathematics but this game made me feel bad about my fundamental math speed.
Anyway, I would drop the interstitial ads for a banner. I have planned on only using those IF I ever get a game that becomes popular. 5 Stars coming your way.
And since you offered I'd love some feedback on any of my games too. Here is a simple one that is tough. I also have a few other games if you want to try them out too.

Same comment as others. But one more thing is that my mobile is mute but the app is not mute.
Would you please also checkout my app and provide some feedback?
