Just ran across this post by Dianne Hackborn, system developer for Android at Google on Google+
I figured it was worth reposting here
"Today's myth debunking:
"The battery indicator in the status/notification bar is a reflection of the batterystats.bin file in the data/system/ directory."
No, it does not.
This file is used to maintain, across reboots, low-level data about the kinds of operations the device and your apps are doing between battery changes. That is, it is solely used to compute the blame for battery usage shown in the "Battery Use" UI in settings.
That is, it has deeply significant things like "app X held a wake lock for 2 minutes" and "the screen was on at 60% brightness for 10 minutes."
It has no impact on the current battery level shown to you.
It has no impact on your battery life.
Deleting it is not going to do anything to make your more device more fantastic and wonderful... well, unless you have some deep hatred for seeing anything shown in the battery usage UI. And anyway, it is reset every time you unplug from power with a relatively full charge (thus why the battery usage UI data resets at that point), so this would be a much easier way to make it go away."
I'm in shock.
Why did I read this with my hands down my pants

That's crazy, another myth down the drain. It's like quadrant scores, we cared about them on the beginning

Doesn't surprise me, considering most on the forum aren't hardware types and/or know how lion batteries behave...
Truthfully, I don't even know what works and what doesn't anymore. My battery is still sucks!

Got it!! this thing is INCREDIBLE!!!
Let us know about your thoughts on the battery life
they gave it to me with 3/4 battery life left. i'm going to burn it all the way down and recharge and go from there. it would be nice if we had a battery meter that would tell life time remaining. i.e. 16hours, 18 minutes. (p.s. i started this thread so everyone could join in the "i've got mine" party. not to brag! )
This thing is F'ing unbelievable! I don't think I've ever been more pleased with a phone & I've had almost all of them. I have no complaints. Can't wait to get home & root this beast! Sprint, HTC & Google just told Apple & the rest of the industry to suck their Evo!!!

Look up BatteryTime Lite in the app market. It will give you a counutdown of how long it should last using various activities. The Evo probably isn't in the options yet, but you can choose other and import your battery mAh
but there's no app that just displays time remaining? I.E. OSX laptops have a countdown in the top right that says how much time you have left

I noticed that the Android OS usage is pretty high, between 60-90% on xBTx's mostly stock rom with Nubecoders kernel v02.
Anyone seeing high Android OS usage on other ROMs?

What do you think makes your phone work? Take off your OS and see if you can load anything. Would you expect your PC to load a Program for Windows without Windows running? Percentage don't mean crap. It is how many seconds a program runs for. The OS and display will ALWAYS be the highest percentage.

I get your point, but usage was never this high with froyo. It was always around 6%. If you read any of the thread I posted, it's apparently a bug...
And on froyo, Android OS was always below 10%...
Its saying android os is using 90% of the battery power that's been used so far.
Remember how screen on used to be 80% and now since froyo its always single digits?
Ima blame better battery management

Going theory is that they changed which stat they measured the graphics processor under when GB came out. What used to be considered a display process may now be measured under Android System.
I woudn't worry about the percentages too much, but what I would worry about is why at about the half way mark it looks like your phone never goes into a deep sleep? Either you were using it for six hours straight, or you may have a wake lock there.

Right on.. it doesn't look like he was using it based on the slope of the battery drain, so I would be looking for an app triggering partial wake-lock. Odds are it's another case of Handcent killing innocent batteries.
This is Ksmullins, posting this for a team member.
"I just finished my test for the Mugen 1950mah (video below), and I have noticed in past chargings that it was faster by a good 15% from when I normally plug in and remove. So I figured it must be because I hit a great UV at 200mhz, -125mv on core and internal, which allows the battery to charge faster given the fact that when charging the phone stays at 200mhz. So providing the cpu with less power will provide the battery more power while charging. IIll be providing proof of this soon."

You could also do low power mode (charging while phone is off)

Soo ur saying if I charge my phone while at something like 100-200 it will finish charging quicker and my battery will last longer?

No, what Im saying is when charging the phone dosnt go into deep sleep, it keeps the cpu at 100mhz on the og epic and 200mhz on the epic touch. So if your UVing tHose steps you will see improved recharge times.

So do you manually undervolt whenever you plug your phone up to charge? Are you using an app that does it for you and keeps your phone from sleeping?
I have cpu master pro but removed it because it was lagging my phone out.
I UV'd 125mv and it charges noticably faster. But if I UV 150mv it takes 10 minutes of failed boot attempts to finally boot lol.

2 hours on the phone did this to my battery. Screen time was 48 mins. Screen was off on call using BT. Phone was red hot after call

It is something you installed or something on your setting up the phone.
this phone battery is amazing , trust me it is.
I get screen on times , unthinkable to my previous phones with brightness way way higher
so.. just try to figure out what is eating your batt and why.
edit:
then again you didnt start your battery log with 100% batt
and your drain was due to a very phone cal (?) With screen off, but your network signal suck really bad, maybe is from there ? But even with low coverage I find it hard to imagine that drain.
But then again.. never had low coverage ..
Yeah I can assure you it's something in your settings that is giving you poor life. You didn't give much description of what they are so it's tough for me to help you with what to fix, or how much knowledge you already have. I recommend BetterBatteryStats and Battery Mix for starters.
Install BBS (Better Battery Stats) and find the rogue application that is causing battery drain.
Battery life for me is amazing. I get close to 28-30 hours with mid - heavy usage.

Your signal during this two hour call was awful. Keeping a connection while not using the phone is a battery sucker in these conditions. I imagine it is much more so when you are actually on the phone. I'd suspect that as the culprit, as the radio has to be pumped up to the max constantly, instead of every minute or so.
I had a note 2 on same network and never saw this kind of drain. I think this qualcomm chip is ****. In my settings my cpu was at 2.27ghz for 1 hour 43 mins! Why was my cpu maxed out while making a simple call.?

I'm having a funky wakelock issue. Over the last couple of days I've had a PhoneApp partial wakelock that's been running almost continuously while the phones been off the charger. Today a new one related to the phone popped up. I've attached screen shots and dump files from better battery stats so hopefully someone can help me figure out what's going on.

I also have the log cat file if needed.
Do you have any MOD that enables the Torch/Flashlight to work from the lockscreen by long pressing volume up or down? I used to have that on and it killed battery from my experience
I do have that mod enabled although I have had it enabled for months and have not had any issues with it draining battery.

Yeah I would disable it for process of elimination to see if that's the cause.
Or another route is do you remember if you restarted your phone since you unplugged it off of the charger? Try to restart your phone everytime you take it off of a charger with the MOD enabled to see if that corrects it
I don't know why this fixed it but it did. I wonder what the developer changed in the coding to cause this to be an issue now

I read that not only the long press for torch but also the long press for music controls did the same thing. Thought it would be a great idea until I read about the power drain

With the note 3's massive battery I was still finishing an 18 hour day with 40-50 percent remaining but anything that hits battery life, in particular anything that keeps the phone from deep sleeping, has got to go.
For me it's not so much about day to day battery life as it is about long term battery health
