I have my Samsung Focus with the Mango Update HW revision 1.3.
Since a recent SIM Change I have noticed the in various ocasions the device displays a Searching status for Network and at that point no calls nor SMS get through. The wierd thing is that during that event the phone still recieved Data and can still browse the internet... is there an explanation for this?

Guys,
All of a sudden (last few days) I've been receiving a huge delay in SMS delivery to myself (anything up to 24 hours). I've tried the SIM in another handset (different model) and had no issues. There seems to be nothing wrong with Vodafone UK's service currently so it's a setting on my handset.
The only thing I have fiddled with is the data connections in terms of automatically firing up to drag down my emails over GPRS/3G/HSDPA whatever is available.
I think that the 3G network is causing the issue but I'm not sure how to test.
Please help
Thanks
I had similar issue after roaming in another country. The problem just disappeared in few days. As usual I'm not sure about this - you can avoid 3g by Start>Settings>Phone>Band>Select your network type. Change it from AUTO to GSM. This worked for me when my provider was doing maintenance of its 3G service.
Yup happpens to me all the time, i make a call and recieve loads a texts!!
just an update - i hard reset as my sim worked in another phone and this seemed to sort the issue....rather worried it might come back though!
Hi there,
I was hoping someone could be of assistance.
I try to carry out solutions for myself, but I can no longer go on!
I have had the Hero since July/August. I unlocked it from Orange and now using o2 since I bought the phone). I changed settings etc and have since used data network, email etc okay although it has always been intermittent.
However, I have always had a problem with dropped calls. It constantly does it - won't phone through. Also texts don't always send. Presently, I can't do anything - calls, internet etc - even with full bars.
I may have fully bars as I do now, yet I call myself and it goes to answerphone. I have so many missed calls. Can anyone shed any light.
I am on firmware 1.5 if that makes any difference. My signal strength atm is -63bm and all is in service.
I can't even access the Internet at the moment either.
can you say, whats your "Build Number", Baseband and Kernel?
You can see this at same place, where you see your Firmware Version (Thats Android Version)
Dear Samsung Focus users,
I really need your help and suggestions. I bought an unlocked samsung focus last week and I love it! But I have this problem:
- I cannot receive text messages until I reboot the phone
- After I reboot the phone, text messages will start flying in to my inbox
- Then the problem starts again and I have to reboot the phone to retrieve new text messages
I live in the basement but I have no trouble calling or sending and receiving SMS with my previous phone.
I hope it has something to do with the OS thus they can fix it.
Thanks!
Sometimes I get it where the device thinks it's on the network, but won't use cellular data or SMS. I'll see this after being in the basement for a few hours with a signal that fades in and out.
Try turning on Airplane mode, wait 5 seconds, and turn airplane mode off. It should reconnect to the network and start running again.
I've seen this on 'droids, WinMob 6, and on the iphone 3 as well. I've just sort of figured it was the radio chip giving up on retries. I could be wrong, but recycling the radio seems to work for me.

when you have no signal, the operator will keep trying several times during different time spaces until your phone gets it. the problem with focus is that they quit trying to received. i dont know but only works after a reboot. In other phones you just need to wait till next carrier push try. i think its a bug, probably to unlocked phones. I have an At&T unlocked focus.
I am having the exact same problem. I dont know what to do
Count me in.
I am also experiencing this issue.
Here are my thoughts on the issue.
1. I bought the phone from Rogers (GSM)
2. I bought an Unlock code from the web (SIM Unlock only)
- You know you're device is carrier locked if you cannot run Samsung's Network Profile App, or if it shows no other profiles in the list. The app is available on the marketplace.
3. I use the phone on SaskTel's 4G network (Saskatchewan UMTS/HSPA+)
Now my thought is this.
Whichever settings are not provided by SIM are set by the Network Profle xml that is specific to each carrier.
My assertion is that if you cannot change Network Profiles via Samsung's app, you cannot use your 'carrier free' (AKA SIM unlocked) device on another network without some hiccups.
If someone can figure out how to enable Samsung's Network Profile on a carrier purchased device, I'd be happy to hear how it's done.
I should also note that I've since developer unlocked via Chevron's WP7 tools with no change (Installed NoDo right after).
If someone knows what the network profile xml actually sets and can figure out an alternate way to set the settings..... ie Registry editor, etc. We would appreciate this.

you may try the fix posted on page 2 of this forum for sms not receiving. It worked for me and not having any problems since.
Hi
I have just upgraded from a galaxy S4 to S5 and I'm having big problems with receiving calls and SMS when I am connected to my home WIFI connection.
Only when I turn off wifi on my phone I start receiving the backlog of SMS messages.
It's driving me mad as I have searched the internet high and low and lots of people have the same issues but no one seems to have a solution.
Some times I can receive calls when connected to wifi but the SMS messages don't come through until I disconnect.
My wife has also just upgraded from a s4 to s5 but hers appears to be ok.
I have noticed that in more networks/mobile networks/network mode, my wife's gives options of 3G, 4g etc but mine says LTE/WCDMA/gsm which I though was strange as we are both on virgin mobile. I don't think this is the issue though as it's a wifi issue.
Please help I'm on the brick of selling it as it's driving me insane.
Cheers

1- Regarding the WiFi issue, it may be due to some installed apps (a), some incorrect settings (b), or the firmware itself (c).
(a) Check to see if there is possible app that may cause the issue and try uninstall it.
(b) Compare with the S5 of your wife and make sure all related settings are the same. Or you can do factory reset.
(b) Try to update to the newer or latest firmware (compare with the firmware on your wife's S5), that may fix the issue.
2- Regarding the difference in the Network Settings menu, it may be due to different models. You can compare all important info on your own S5 and your wife's S5 with this app: Phone INFO ★Samsung★

Friends of mine were at my house over the weekend and he had a samsung s4 and had the same problem after logging onto my wifi. It is the wifi causing the problem. I had an old modem and netgear router that we hooked up and then we were able to receive calls like you should. We switched out the modem/router combo on Sat to my older setup and my phone is still working normally! I called my dsl provider and told them about the problem as I just bought the modem/router combo from them recently.
They never heard of anything like this. I do find it hard to believe that the home wifi equipment disrutes the cell phone signal. But my phone is now working!!! Anyone ever heard of this or that can explain why this would happen I would love to hear about it.
Greetings, friends!
I seem to be having an issue with my Galaxy S5. Many times when I receive a message (via WhatsApp or Snapchat for example)
my phone does not show any notifications. However, when I open the app manually, it recalls to use it's mobile data and only then,
when the app is running, I receive all of the notifications I haven't received yet.
This does not happen when my phone is connected to my house WiFi. My phone can receive data from my mobile network,
and my data is always turned on, but for some reason it's shut down for most of the apps (if not all of them) unless the app
is running (not in background).
I have tested this without power saver mode and app power saver, same result.
Is there any way I can get my phone to enable mobile data at all times?
So I'll be able to get the notification the second someone sends me a message.
Things worth mentioning:
Phone model: SM-G900P, unrooted.
Firmware: Sam Mobile's stock Sprint (G900PVPU3CPCA)
Hardware version: G900P.04
Android version: 6.0.1 (Marshmallow)
Baseband version: same as firmware.
Kernel version: 3.4.0-7603580
[email protected] #1
Build number: MMB29M.G900PVPU3CPCA
My device was bought in Europe (in Russia), but I use it in western side of the middle east.
That means I cannot activate my device via my network (using the hands free activation).
Whenever I restart my device, the "activating your device..." notification pops out.
It retries 5 times finally it opens the "Activate this device" app (from settings) and it says
the activation was not successful and that I should contact costumer support.
I have already set up my network's APN with their provided settings and it is the one
I currently use. I tried changing the APN type to " "(empty), "default", "internet" but it doesn't help.
My carrier provides a 3G network. The phone always has some bars and it shows the 3G sign in the
network icon in the status bar.
My network mode is set to Automatic (although I've tried all of the others and it didn't fix it).
I don't have a roaming option at all... ?
I can use my phone properly to make phone calls in an average quality.
This problem started only AFTER updating to marshmallow using Sam Mobile's firmware (via odin).
Resetting my cache partition did not solve this problem.
I will contact my carrier and ask them, but I'm pretty sure it's something in the new firmware that prevents
mobile data without forced usage (or is unable to connect unless a request is forcing it to change network type).
Any help will be much appreciated!
Update: Even when my phone is connected to my home WiFi, it won't show the notifications before I open WhatsApp.
Could it be a firmware issue?
I am also having massive problems with the APN after flashing my G900P with ANY custom rom. Have yet to find a fix for this.
