Trying to install 1.4.1 - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I un rooted and returned back to 1.0.1 because im handing my nook over to my wife. I went to b&n site downloaded the update file and followed all directions to manually update. Waited all day yesterday and the nook still hasn't seen the file on the sdcard. Can the color be directly updated from 1.0.1 to 1.4.1 or am I doing something wrong?

Did you perhaps end up with CWR on your eMMC? To check, boot into recovery and see if CWR comes up. If it does, you cannot update and will have to get rid of CWR.

I dont believe so but ill check. Thanks

Had to recreate cwm sdcard, flash 1.2 then flash 1.4.1 through cwm. Thanks.

If you want to just install the latest stock rom on your device, go to my NC tips thread linked in my signature. Look at item A15.

Ok, I figured out that I can just flash strightly from booting into CWM, but which rom should I use?
Cm_core_full-118.zip or update-cm-7.0.3-encore-signed.zip?
always use the nightlies (the ones without update_) because every day or so there is a new one with new features. Always have the latest on by checking at this link:
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=encore
Use "update-cm-7.0.3-encore-signed.zip"
because the nightlies still have major problems that are not solved.

A. OP this is the incorrect forum to post this.
B. At least use the newest RC so you can have deep sleep. (update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-encore-signed.zip)
C. What major problem does a nightly have?...
thanks for all the replies.
I know there are still a lot of debate on stable or nightly build but the basic idea is to flash the CM7 rom zip directly using Clockwork Recovery, right? I just downloaded a copy of update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-encore-signed.zip and cm_encore_full-118.zip. I am trying to flash them (separately) on top of my rooted nook color 1.0.1 using the Clockwork recovery that has been installed on the nook color but got the same error message:
assert failed.......
E:Error in /sdcard/cm_encore.....
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
Do any of you know why??
update: problem solved, can't use the Colorwork recovery that was installed on the nook color, need to use the one on SD card.

Broke my recovery

Nook was running cm7
I went here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958748 and downloaded recoveryfix.zip and installed it
that was silly
now nook is stuck at book
How can I reflash cwm 3.0.2.8?

Do you remember what version of the stock OS you had before you installed CM7? What happened, was that file that you downloaded is specific to a version of the stock OS.
Make yourself a bootable CWM card by following the directions HERE
Then download the attached file that goes with your stock OS version, and put it into the root of the CWM card.
Boot the device with that card, and flash the file. Remove the SD card when done, and reboot. You should now be back into your CM7. At this point to can flash CWM back onto the NC, or leave it off.

Not really, the version 1.1.0 update came out at the end of January, and the guide that you linked to was made in February, so I would say that there is good chance that you were not on version 1.1.0. I would start with the 1.2.0 package, and work my way down.
No luck
Got meself a monster root pack - http://code.google.com/p/monster-rootpack/downloads/list
1.2.0 and 1.1.0 gave me install failed after rebooting
1.0.1 its still stuck at "Touch the future of reading"
Dont I want to flash a good copy of CWM back so that it can boot cm7?

The NC does NOT need CWM installed on the device to install or run CM7. A lot of people don't install it because of problems like this. I just did a restore of my CM7 image, and took the same steps as you. When it reboots and says install failed, I just shut it down and restarted right back into CM7.
The problem with the package that you had started with was the fact that besides the recovery files it installed a version of u-boot.bin that does not seem to be compatible with your device. The packages that I put up include each version specific u-boot.bin and recovery files.
I would flash the 1.2.0 file again, this time when it restarts and says install failed, just reboot the device, and it should go into CM7. At the very least, at this point you could do a full factory restore.
Update
before seeing your last message I built cwm 3.2.0.1 card using http://www.techerrata.com/dl.php?path=15&file=1gb_clockwork-3.2.0.1-eyeballer.zip
downloaded cm7 latest nightly
flashed it
applied titanium backup
was up in about an hour
BTW I do like CWM recovery, I can take nandroid backups time to time
Thanks for helping

Build.prop issue

I deleted my build.prop but forgot to rename backup before rebooting. It starts up with initial cynageon text but it hangs there and never makes it to boot animation. Tried to load SD card on phone to rename but I can't see any system folders. Where to go from here?

He's running from verygreen's SASD... so his stock is still stock.
Do NOT use cwr with that version... you need to use verygreen's built in recovery mode to update the uSD install.
OP, words of advice.
1. Do CLEARLY indicate you are intending to run CM7 off uSD or booting from eMMC.
If you NOT, other members tend to give you advice that not your intention to do.
2. Read the instruction from verygreen. Do make sure you understand what it's for.

Help with unrooting

I'd like to unroot my NC back to original stock. I run CM off the SD card. From what I've read, I can just format my SD card and then put a stock zip on it and flash it? Or am I wrong? Plus I'd like to reuse that SD card for something else afterwards.

Check out the restoring to stock section of the guide in my sig. It should get you where you want to be.

No... the B&N file is not installable from CWR... you can remove the SD (or just select eMMC and Recovery mode from the menu.... but... if you are running CM7 from SD... shouldn't have to restore original anyway... unless you installed something else on eMMC

Everytime I recover and flash, doesn't work. I can't even get into proper recovery to boot from SD. I'm thinking of trying to put the new zip on a different memory card.
Forgot to mention that I'm trying to upgrade from an old nightly to the latest stable or nightly 201. So I thought I'd try and unroot, then reroot.

Normally, we only use the term "unroot" when:
+ your currently run custom ROM, i.e. CM7 from eMMC
Other than that, don't use the term "unroot"
What is your current system now?

Are you using the latest version of clockwork? Also what program are you using to burn the image? Are you running it as admin?

I'm pretty sure its the latest Clockwork. I've tried almost everything but I just can't get into recovery. I believe I used WINIMAGE32?
I simply want to restore to stock and it seems confusing. Since I ran off SD, I thought I could simply format the SD and then go back to factory settings on my Nook. Now I read something about an 8 reboot process? Ah, so confusing!

You might have a bit of CWR on the emmc preventing your stock from updating. But there is also a video link in that thread that you can view to see step by step what you need. After you accomplish the steps, you can update to any version of stock you want.

You "restore to stock" by taking the SD card out of the slot and rebooting. Unless you did something horribly wrong, the stock ROM hasn't been touched by the SD card. You don't "root" an SD installation; it installs rooted. That being said, if you've been messing around with Clockwork, which only works with an emmc installation, you have probably installed a recovery partition on the emmc, but that won't affect running the stock Nook. It just affects your warranty.
To get the the SD card back to normal, reformat it. You may also have to remove the partitions on it with a tool like Easeus Partition Master beforehand.

You will have to install unrooted B&N ROM and register... then re-root it... I have instructions on how to modify B&N stock to be flashable via CWM in the Customizing ROMs thread in my signature... Leapinlar has a flashable 1.4.3 in his tips thread... make sure after you flash stock back you go through the unregistering/return to stock on it... then boot it back up and register it.

Sure, just go to my tips thread as DizzyDen suggested. It is linked in my signature. There is a section on how to make the CWM bootable SD (item A10). And there is a link (item A12) to my modified stock 1.4.3 rom that can be flashed with that CWM SD. Do a factory reset with CWM before flashing the rom. Takes you completely back to unrooted stock.
Or if you still have the stock recovery on internal memory you can do an 8 failed boot reset. See my item A12.
