Italian Kindle Fire users? - Kindle Fire General

Is there any italian Kindle Fire user?

Right here. Well actually my dad. I live in the US and bought him one for Christmas. I installed CM7 (the only way to have the OS in Italian), italian keyboard etc... Works great.

i suggest the asus transformer.
I think 'cheap' is the magic word here...
so I guess a A-label like Asus is already too expensive.

you are right... I was looking at zt180 may be ramos w10 but for this one theren't enough rom and no honeycomb rom
Nook Color. Refurbished on B&N, $200. New, $250.
It's got honeycomb, froyo, cm7, and MIUI. Just no camera, and no 3g/mobiledata.
I second the nook. No tv out but over all a great deal. Can find it for 185 sometimes. Also the cases are discounted. Screen is nice and if you by a tablet with a crappy screen you will definitely regret it.
Again, Nook Color.
Thanks you all!
it's not popular in europe but in fact is excatly what I'm searching

Yes, I have Fruit Ninja. I copied the apk from my Galaxy S and put it on the kindle... no joy. It's funny too because I hadn't tried to open it on the kindle until I read your post here lol.
At any rate, I simply uninstalled it, went to the Google (not Amazon) Market and redownloaded it. Once it installed it played beautifully.
I downloaded the full version from another market..... Can't say which one though. Plays just as good as the app on my SGS II.
i got the free version from the amazon market and it looks great.
thanks for the reply guys!
man then i definitely fear something is weird. i downloaded it from amazon's marketplace.
attached is a picture of the problem. as you can see the circles are squished.

This may not be the helpful but I had downloaded the HD version onto my HTC flyer from Getjar. Not sure if it's still offered there or if it's downloadable onto the fire but it's another place to look.

thank you for the info.

Noob help, CM7. Total noob.

So I'm new to the Android community. I only just joined when I got my Kindle Fire. I've heard that "Cyanogenmod 7" can be put on the Fire. I've looked on their site, and I have a vague idea of what it is, but not the full picture, so could someone explain to me what it is, and what good it would do to get it on my Kindle Fire?
Thanks.
cm7 is an alternate rom, has nothing to do with amazon and the kf will be like any other standard android tablet. all the special features from amazon will not be available.

I'm aware it doesn't specifically have anything to do with the KF, but what is a rom, and what will change exactly? I'm new to the Android community.

They are not available by defualt, but their are ports. It's very easy to get them on Cyanogenmod. It allows you to run more games on it since it has the gingerbread on it. It's also pre rooted.

the rom is the os - stock and cm7 are both based on android 2.3.4 (gingerbread) but that are different - let's say - distributions, with different look and feel - there are many pictures on the web about that - just google for it

I'm beginning to understand, and I prefer that UI to the stock, do you think it's worth the transition? Thanks.
And, is there a difference in battery life etc? Anything bad?
that decition is up to you - i'm using stock with golauncher ex - have changed the language (german in my case) - i'm quite happy with that

I think I'm going to give it a go. Just one question. The kindle fire has no buttons, so when I install CM7, the default bottom bar that is used for navigation on the KF will surely be gone, is there a solution to this, and you think it'll be a problem? EDIT: Oh, and does CM7 come with root access by default?
this would be a good point to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390773
and read,read,read to avoid problems
the navigation is no problem - saw pictures where it is integrated in the bar from cm7 at the right side
you need a additional app to regulate the loudness
and i think cm7 comes rooted (i have never used it)
read the above thread - all you need is in there
good luck !

No. There is a bottom bar on CM7 aswell. So that is not a problem. The version I run is detected as being pre-rooted by KFU. I used the "Standing on the shoulders giants" version.

yes, i meant volume
I definitely think that Cyanogen Mod is a great way to go. It improves the performance a ton, and in my casse, makes the kindle more useful.
There's no such thing as an unrooted CM ROM.
Welcome to Android. What is a ROM?

In the beginning....

The stock rom is nice, but cm7's performance is outstanding especially when using flash in the browser, I just watched a video review on IGN full screen, HD setting, and it ran flawlessly I couldn't do that in the stock rom. Been very impressed running cm7 on the fire, this will hold me over until the devs get ICS stable.

It really depends what you want, doesn't it?
If you want something stable where everything works, you're not going to flash ICS on it, are you? Me, I wanted to play around with something that I knew was still in the alpha/beta stages of development, so I took the plunge. I find that the 02_09_Hashcode build on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411895 does all that I need it to at the moment, so I'm happy with it. If you follow that thread, though, you will find people that don't like it, people that want HW video acceleration, people that won't run it until it runs netflix... etc. It all depends on your desires/needs.
Sure, I'd like to be able to have the original reader on it - the margins on the reader app are so big a single sentence spans multiple pages. But if that was too much of a bother, I'd go back to stock wouldn't I?
CM7 Whistlestop build(SoS)
CM7 SoS. Solid as a rock. HW accel works, hd video, and ad hoc wifi works. Good sh*t. With ICS theme, ADW EX, and the removal of a few unnecessary APKs, it's BY FAR the best out right now.
i use stock just because i kinda like the Carousel launcher. until they port it to ics i'm sticking with stock. i don't want to use the kindle android app. lol

KindleFireUtility is pretty easy to deal with if you're not comfortable running adb shell commands. It will install the most recent version of BurritoRoot and TWRP and does many other things as well. Just be sure to read the instructions in the thread well or you may end up posting one of the many "bricked my KF while trying to install TWRP with KFU" threads you'll see around here

It depends on what do you expecting from your ROM.
CM9 builds are more polished and tablet looking than other, but don't have video HW acceleration support and netfix.
CM7 builds are bit more laggy (if we are talking about UI animations) but you can play videos from webpages.
Barebones are looking similiar to ICS UI, and is very fast but you have to install everything on it (it's just naked system).
I didn't using MIUI/Kand ROMS so cant tell anything about them
Cm7 sos I got flash to work =p

Got to have my Netflix account up and working. CM7 SoS is just great. Still, I can't wait for CM9 to get video working. I understand they're almost there.
For me, the MoDaCo rom is the perfect fit. You get the "stock" experience- probably the best app compatibility you're going to find. In addition, you have several tweaks and the Market preinstalled.
Having been around the block a few times on other tablets and Android phones, I love the bleeding edge ROMs. But if a device is your daily driver, stability and compatibility are important. The MoDaCo rom gives that.
Now, give ICS a few more months, and it may be a different story.
Everything everyone said about the ROMs here is correct and good advice.
I'd just add if I was starting out with CM7, I'd try the barebones version. That wasn't yet out when I installed it and I had to uninstall all the unneeded apps manually. If I were to start now, I'd use barebones, for sure.
Otherwise they are the same.
CM7 is very good. You will like it, I bet.

Similar experience here. I was on CM7 sos, then tried ICS. In the interim, Barebones came out, so I rolled with that.
I prefer what I'm used to with Android, so CM7 is a good fit for me.
Someone did mention that the UI was slightly laggy, but I've had a better experience with CM7 using Raven's kernal than I did with ICS with whatever kernel came with it.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9" bootloader bug fixed

Hi! Hope everybody is having a nice Thanksgiving (slowly transitioning to Black Friday).
I brought a piece of great news, Kindle Fire HD 8.9" (and HD 7", but I don't have a device to test) locked bootloader bug has been fixed.
All hail to sloppy programmers (as if there were any other kinds, right?)
Thanks to: fattire for noticing a bit of unverified user input, Hashcode for doing some prototype testing on other Kindle devices before we got our hands on actual Kindle HD and a bit of source code.
Great news! Looking forward this being finalized...
I'm getting excited.

Just as fattire highlighted in this other thread, there's an unchecked length parameter in boot image, so you just make it really long and overwrite the stack of the bootloader, allowing you to transfer control to your code (another copy of uboot in my case).
It seems there are a lot of misunderstandings about how these bootloader fixes work, so we are preparing a document laying it in some more details. It currently only covers Nook Tablet (of Bauwks fame) and just needs to be expanded a bit.
any word on if this will cover the kf2 the non hd one? I can't wait to get my hands on mine in a couple days. But I like the look and feel of cm10. ( I have the latest nightly on my sgs3. ) also, is there any word on actually unlocking the bootloader?

I think there's quite some distance to cover between "Bootloader cracked" and "CyanogenMod 10 running". CM really only works with source code, and I really can't see Amazon releasing all their source.

There is some distance to cover, it's true. But much of that has been covered. CM10 is already running, albeit w/o sound for the moment. And speaking generally, the source for CM10 is available.
Also, it may be wiser in general to get a Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 or something similar if simply to support the hardware manufacturers who make it very easy for you to unlock to install your own operating system.

Sounds reassuring that CM 10 is already up & running.
Yes, I'm aware of that CM sources are available - but it was Amazons source code I was referring to. I doubt they (Amazon) will release drivers & cetera to facilitate the creation of third party ROMs.
