Exchange data services over 400mb in 3 days - Nexus S General

This morning i got a data warning. In 3 days exchange services used over 400 mb of data, of which about 300 in the past night. I disabled the service right away, but what the hell???
Does anyone know why it does this, I did not change my settings in any way...
Have been having trouble with battery performance for half a week though, doesn't last more than 8 hrs...

I've also had the same problem. Played about with exchange settings but not made much difference. Had 300+mb in one night data usage and it's been eating up the battery. I'm running Cyanogen Mod 9 Alpha 16.

Exchange service requires a lot of overhead, also every time it polls for new messages it will verify lots of other info like updating global address book. It usually polls once every 60 seconds, as such massive data usage.
As for battery issues that is one of the primary reason that Google has halted deployed of ICS. Also the Nexus S has a hardware issue that prevents it from charging past 95-97% without the WAP active.

The 95% battery charge is not a hardware issue, its designed to do so. The out come of it is a longer life for the battery itself.

The inbuilt exchange client has always been a massive battery eater for me. Same on GB and now the same thing on ICS (I was hoping they would fix it in ICS). Those of you having very low battery life and using exchange services might want to disable it for a massive battery life boost and use a 3rd party app instead. I personally use Touchdown which has negligible or next to no battery usage.

u haven't open data usage ? and see what it wast for ^^

I solved this issue with a hard reset

I'm getting this issue too except on the Galaxy Nexus
472MB in the last week?
And it's using 25% of my battery

The battery drain is probably real, but I've found ICS' data management statistics are optimistic. My network says I've used around 19 Mb and ICS 35 Mb.
Both are way too low for a week. I'm supposed to be a geek, for goodness sake!

Background app..?? Useing??
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium

I had the same issue on my Asus Transformer, Exchange configured with Hotmail.
On my Nexus S i had Hotmail app installed with high percentage of battery usage.
I removed the exchange account on Transformer and the Hotmail app on the Nexus S and now it's ok.
So i thought this could be an Hotmail problem during last days.

I have the same thing. Last night my "Exchange Services" started acting up and now I see it has eaten 300+ mb of my data as well as a good portion of my battery this morning.
I would very much like to know what the hell is up with that. It's utter crap.
Has anyone found out anything about why it's acting like this? I don't really want to disable my exchange account since I use it on a daily basis.

How much is Google Services effecting your battery?

Why is Google Services taking up so much of my battery use? The CPU total is only 38s and the keep awake time is 3m 16s.
By contrast, HD Widgets has used 5m 3s of CPU time and 23m 35s of keep awake, but has a far less percentage of battery life.
Any ideas?

Are you rooted? If so, what ROM are you using? Any custom kernels?
If not, which OTA are you on?
I'm using Paranoid Android and don't have this problem.

How often do you actually use your phone? Judging by the list of apps in your screen shot and minimal screen on time, im assuming your phone is in standby more often than not. If that's the case, then the Google services are using more battery by comparison simply because you're not doing anything else that's using battery. That list shows usage by comparison. If you're concerned about it, open the Currents app and go into settings and disable notifications, also disable unnecessary notifications and updates for your Google accounts (books, magazines, photo upload, etc.) From settings > Google. Could also be Google Now.
Download gsam battery for more info on what's using battery.
And don't forget, the way that screen works is that it's saying Google services used 60% of the 17% that has been depleted, which equals about 9% in over 4 hours.

I have done some tests over the last couple of days and it seems like the issue (if it really is an issue) relates to Tasker and using location by cell/network towers to activate/deactive tasks. I have turned these tasks off and programmed NFC tags to take its place for now.
No real battery gain by NOT using these tasks that use cell/network loction to be honest so it does not seem like google services is draining our battery enough to notice a difference.
After i disabled google now and google location services i no longer see "Google Services" show up in battery use. Previously it was just destorying my battery but now all is well :good:

I came to the same conclusion you did regarding tasker and cell near. I implemented this solution: http://tasker.wikidot.com/yanawa
which minimizes the location checks and so far I think it's faring a lot better. I'm going to play around with your NFC idea though.

WiFi eating battery on Note 3

Hey everyone,
My mom just got a new Note 3 (yay!), and I have been quite busy exploring all its features. One thing that is nagging me, however is that both the stock browser and chrome are using up a great deal of battery. Wifi is eating 1% Every 1-2 minutes and while using the browsers this is amplified to a percent every 30 secs!
Please help me.

Wifi has always been a battery vampire.
Do you have brightness set to 100%?
How far are you from the router? A bad signal uses more power.
Is anything syncing in the background?

I just don't understand why they don't use stronger batteries in the first place. I wouldn't mind carry along an additional let's say 50g in exchange for a longer battery life ...

At stand by, the Note 3 hardly uses 1-2% battery every 8 hours or so, but when it comes to calling (core function of the phone!) and wifi+browsers the battery suffers greatly. I haven't tested cellular data yet because of weak signals near my house. Should I let it drop to 0% and charge to 100% or get a new battery? Really disappointed with the battery.
As a general rule you should avoid full discharge/recharge cycles (except for things such as recalibration) as this in the long run shortens the batt's lifetime even more. So it's best to recharge it more often and keep it somewhere between 10-90%.

UPDATE
New update guys:
I left my phone with WiFi on for half an hour and it ate 3% battery from 50% to 47% which includes a phone call. And this time the phone was a bit further away from the router. So, I guess it's not the WiFi that's sucking the juice but the browsers.
Any fix for this?

Fixed
Hey,
Well the issue fixed itself. I now have WiFi running with Smart Screen, Air Gestures, Sync, Screen Rotating and using the web browser to do some surfing and battery hasn't dropped a percent since the last few minutes. It got fixed right after another (it's 3rd) charge and it's working now.
Guess I just needed to charge it a few times for it to work. If anyone else is having issues and have charged it only once or twice, try charging it again. Mine was at 47% when I charged.
Requesting a mod to lock this.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy App drained battery?

I had I think about 80% Battery last night and went to sleep. Normally I only get about 5% to 10% drain when I sleep from notifications and things syncing which I am fine with. However I woke up and it was at 20%. I went into the battery settings to see what was draining it and it said Samsung Galaxy 40% stay awake for 5h 37m. and recieved data 130 mb and sent 4.52 mb which I have never seen that come up on the list of things using my battery before, and why would 130mb take 5 hours to recieve. I am attaching a picture as well of my screenshot. I am totally confused. There was no update on my phone ota either. I was on wifi the whole time since I was home.

Are you using the original battery that came stock with the phone or using a different battery? May be the issue here...

Also this is the first time anything has drained my battery like that on this. I had an s4 before this one and never had this happen. Almost all same apps. Only added a few calender ones the days before this happened but they aren't even showing on battery use.

Well its showing up again. By this time tonight usually I have 75% battery life. Today it's at 63% doing the usual stuff with Samsung Galaxy using 10%. I really don't want to have to reset but this is becoming a problem.

Seriously does anyone know what this app is and if it's OK to turn off. I really need to know what's going on and it's hard to Google cause it comes up with every page that says Samsung Galaxy.

I froze that app and 120+ other random things I don't want. :good:
edit to add this app is Social Networking Service so all that background happenings is from facebook, etc.
If it is connected to Facebook why would it be showing up now? It's not interfering with my Facebook since I turned it off and I never have had anything with Facebook drain my battery like that. I am glad I haven't seen anything not work on my phone since I turned it off but I was still having some sudden battery drain all of a sudden. I am really confused. This never happened on my s4 and I have had this one over two weeks and it just started happening. I am not using the phone any differently.

Help with Battery Life/Power Issues

Hey all
I've been having massive issues with my battery life recently, it's never been great however it's actually gotten a lot worse post Kit Kat. I've taken a few screenshots on a few different apps like GSam Monitor, Wakelock detector and Battery Widget, I was wondering if somebody could help me diagnose the issue. Or at least just give me general insights into the numbers that I'm getting in terms of battery life.
EDIT: Just noticed a new issue where a couple of times my battery was somewhere in the 40's and then the phone crashes and when I start it back again it just has about 2 % battery left. Weirdly enough, after charging it for a couple of minutes, that battery now goes up to 30%. Would love to know if somebody has had a similar issue and what might be a way to go about trying to find some sort of solution.

same battery issue here. Its not because software. i tryed CM11m11, Ubuntu Touch, stock.. same problem. Im waitting new battery, because i was not that gentle with batteru when i was repalcing camera 15 days ago.
Usualy moment before phone restart, lose sim signal, then freeze and restart
If flashing stock doesn't resolve it, I'd say the battery is dying. I went from 2 hours between charges to 12-14 with a new battery.

My battery is also dying (switched to new phone now). It averages about 1 hour of SOT over several days and it's only wifi only. I guess I could swap out a fresh one but it goes to show that we need easily removable batteries but they just don't last that long.

Bad battery life on Nexus 4

Hi!
I recently purchased a used Nexus 4 in very good condition.
However I was having problems with the battery not lasting very long. So I replaced it with one from a reseller that sells original spares (called "lgspares", I can't post links.).
Battery life is still bad. My battery usually lasts about 12-13 hours and is therefore empty in the afternoon or early evening.
This is quite annoying.
I am running cm-13.0-20160429-SNAPSHOT-ZNH0EAO2YJ-mako without Google Apps.
I run the following apps that (possibly) sync in the background:
* DavDroid to sync to a CalDav server, runs every 4 hours.
* K9 Mail to sync to an IMAP server, turned off IMAP push, runs every 30 minutes.
* FOSS Telegram, which does not use GCM. However I turned off "Background Connection" in the settings.
I used to have smaller intervals set for DavDroid and K9 and recently increased them to have a better battery life. However this did not have a big impact.
I ran battery historian for two usual days:
* Day 1:

Questions:
*I can see that the battery level decreases quite a lot while the screen is on. Does that simply mean that I have a bad battery?
*Did I miss something in the battery historian graph?
Thanks for your help!
How many hours of screen on time do you get? The Nexus 4 (or really any before the 6p) didn't have great battery life...

I see, that's unfortunate.
According to battery historian it was 2h7m for day 1 and 3h15 for day 2.
Is that average (for a N4)?

My N4 was rooted, and I used a kernel profile to help conserve the battery. I was also not running the screen @ full brightness. I usually managed to get through the day on one charge.

I will look up ways to adapt the "kernel profile"/cpu governor/etc. .
Actually the battery life has gotten better suddenly. I think the only adjustment I did was disabling vibration feedback while typing.
I will watch the behavior during the next days and possibly report back
Thanks for your input so far!

I will check these out!
I have disabled developers options and uninstalled Wakelock Detector.
The phone charged until 9am this morning and just now (10 hours later) it is at 70%.
Could it be that Wakelock Detector itself was draining the battery or that the developer options are to blame?
I am baffled.
You may need to restart the phone to show true battery level if that doesn't work download ampere app from Google play and make sure you are not using a very slow charger Normal charger would be a measuring of 600ma in my experience
also check settings battery see what is consuming most battery life
You likely need a new battery. These phones are 3yrs old. I had to replace mine every 1.5 years.
