I know it's a known issue that video playback on a rooted Kindle Fire running a custom ROM like CM7 or ICS will automatically fast-forward through videos, whether they be in the youtube app or just in the browser. I have a few questions regarding this:
1. Is there a fix?
2. If not, do we have any idea what's causing it?
3. If so, what can I do to help fix it?
I want to try to help give back to the community instead of whining when stuff doesn't work. If anything else, just make me a beta tester.

After reading a post in the vanilla 2 forums about someone else having problems with mms...I got to thinking I wonder if mine still works with my wife's env3. Send a small video msg to my phone and low and behold, while I receieved the msg just fine...when it tried to play the video I'd see the first frame..then nothing. The progress bar would continue to run through but the video itself was not going, nor was the sound. I tried kaos v32, nonsensikal 5.4, celb 2.3, vanilla rom beta 2, tainted tenzo, ALLL of which had the SAME issue. While I had kaos installed I thought maybe its the messenger app so I tried chompsms...SAME exact issue. I DO have some videos on my sd card that play just fine. I changed the resolution that my wife's phone sends at still to no avail. ONLY thing I found that DID work is I installed xtrRom 4.0.6.1 and that DOES show the mms video properly. Any ideas? While I'm not knocking xtr but any chance...it'd be nice to know what the issue is and/or be able to use other roms.
The issue is specific to AOSP ROMs..
xtrROM has a vanilla feel but runs the stock HTC framework and messaging app. The HTC libraries and decoders are largely proprietary in my experience so they are not easy to just port over to AOSP...
Nice testing & feedback and I know tenzomonk is looking into it...

Yes this is not really an mms issue but more likely a video codec issue....do you know what file format the video messages are sent in? Although I would think the messages would be sent in 3gp if recorded on a cell phone so they really should play. Is there an option to save the video to the phone and then try to open it?
I was thinking it might be a format issue as well but they're 3gp format so should be able to play. Someone on irc did mention I could save the video and it might work but shouldn't this be able to be done by default? Hopefully someone can figure out a fix without having to save or install an additional app

(This probably belongs in dev forum, but I can't post there yet.)
I'm wondering about the status of CM7 and the YouTube app. I've heard comments that it doesn't work... but it works for me *after* opening a video from Opera Mini.
1) Open YouTube app, play video == sound, but no video.
2) Tried in standard browser, only plays in browser if I change user-agent
3) Tried in Opera Mini, clicking a video launches the YouTube app and it plays.
4) YouTube app now appears to work fine.
Any idea what's going on with this?
EDIT: I'm running Ladios' CM7-RC4-KANG ROM.
I just opened the YouTube app for the first time since a clean install of CM7 RC4 (w/ Ladios's kernel). I had installed the YouTube app days ago when I did the clean install, but haven't run it until now. (I know for sure because it just asked me if I want to accept the agreement when it started.) I just clicked on the first video I could find and it played with video and sound without any problem. I'm not sure why you're having problems.

+1 - new install of YouTube on CM7 N37, no problem playing any videos.
Interesting. Maybe I was just experiencing a glitch then. I'll update the thread if I encounter the issue again. Originally I was thinking that Opera may have caused a particular module to load that the YouTube app hasn't. If I'm able to reproduce the situation in my original post and stock CM7 works then maybe it's Ladios' kernel.

I don't think its ladios' kernel, I've been running his kernel with the latest nightlies for several weeks now, and YouTube works fine for me.
YouTube works fine for me and im running ladios's rc4 rom on clean install.

First of all, if you took the time to read through the thread you would have found this problem. Also, the problem was in the first post...
Second of all, "latest" is a relative term, so in the future specify which one you mean.
Last of all try DoomNEXUS, The video works there. Camera + Mic still doesn't work but doonsmay94 announced he found a way to make it work, so were waiting on a release.
If you don't want to install the new rom just yet, try installing "MX Player" from the play store, before you play a video, go into settings, and select "SW decoder". That should also work.
Hi I recently got a nexus 7 and I followed the instructions I have seen here on how to install flash on my nexus 7. It works but my problem is when I watch streaming flash video on say sockshare or putlocker for example the video does not continue to buffer when I pause, so flash video is unwatchable at the moment because when playing the video stops to buffer every 5 seconds. I'm using Firefox beta as my browser. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix it
Which tutorial did you follow to get this working? I tried a tutorial from YouTube but it didn't work.
Can you explain real quick the steps you took to install flash and your ROM please?

btw, adobe and flash dont support jelly bean or the newest devices. flash isnt made for it. so whatever bugs exist in flash running jelly bean, wont be fixed by adobe. that said, ive found that flash runs best on the aosp android browser, not quite perfect, but not bad.

Does the hulu site in desktop mode allow you to view their videos with the AOSP browser? As I understand that's a root only browser, correct? If so, I wasn't interested in rooting before but this might make me start working on it. I dislike that I pay for Hulu+ but can't view the same content as on my PC when I'm on my PS3, and now my tablet.

just tried it and it didn't work. you can get the actual hulu page rather than the hulu+ advertisement but videos won't play.
I sideloaded the latest flash apk and it works for me in the Firefox beta. I haven't tried any other browsers yet. I think firefox beta has it set by default to click for flash to play instead of letting it play automatically.
I'm using CM10.1 Nightlies as my Rom.
Here is a link to the latest from the adobe site.

FYI, here's my setup:
Rrunning 4.1.2 stock factory Rom at the moment, unlocked & rooted - turned off/disabled/hide Chrome Browser. D/L & install "Boat Browser" from Market (support Flash) used by some of the custom Rom & d/l Flash 11.1.115.17 from links here on XDA (or from Adobe's website). Boot into Recovery, wipe cache & reboot OS.
Launch Boat Browser, go into Settings (3 dots bar on bottom right) and go to "Page Content Settings" - scroll down if necessary, change "Enable Flash/Plug-ins" to Always on (or "On demand") - Enable JavaScript should be On by default. Changed "Set as default browser" to On as necessary. Exit & restart Browser - you should not have to reboot N7 again and check your ability to open/view most Flash-based videos, mine is working as it should be - no longer shuttting off or getting the error msg/device not supported, yada yada.
As for playback of most stored or d/l videos on the N7 - I liked & used "Mobo" player - free from the Market.
Profit - now, there's a lot more to watch streaming on the N7 besides Youtube & CNN video clips. Questions or more issues, please post & will try to help - not new to Android but still on a learning curve with the N7. Good luck as it should work even for those running near stock setup.
OK what I don't understand is with my desktop if I'm watching a streaming video and it is taking a while to load I will pause it and go do something else while it loads and come back when enough of it is loaded to watch uninterrupted. With my nexus 7 that I just got when I pause the videos don't continue to load. therefore when I try to watch a streaming movie it stops to continue to load every couple of seconds and it makes watching a streaming movie unwatchable. Does anyone else have this problem or a solution to it
