Try flashing again in ROM Manager.
Could it be your SD card? Do you still have space? I believe both ROM downloads and backups get stored onto the SD card.
I did that but still getting the error it just happened suddenly

I was rooted using the one step rook but started having issues with my Windows & laptop not wanting to see my Epic conected to USB.
When I reverted back to stock it downloaded 2.2.1 so I have Froyo but need to be able to root off my sd card. I tried Z4Root but it did not get me rooted and I do not think it works for 2.2.1.
Any ideas on a another app I could root with?
Thanks
The .1 update to froyo was to close off the exploit z4root used, there are no other apps that root.
Did you flash back to dk28 stock or di18?

I did the wipe/factory reset. I had updated to Froyo prior and reset trying to get my Usb to computer back
spent my two days off playing with my phone finally sucess.
Used odin and installed the dk28 tar with clockwork mod.
My wifi was acting like a crack addict...the shakes when I turned on wifi the phone would vibrat and reset.
Put the truly epic experiance latest and installed with the clockwork mod update picking this zip.
The USB is back and working. I am rooted. I can use my wifi tether.
God is great and I am back in business.....
I have an Epic myself and the security of this new HTC phone threw me for a loop. Anyway , I was trying to put CM7 on his phone , starting from stock. I managed to get CWM 3.0.0.5 on it and then flashed the CM7 from here. Now it is stuck on the white Tmobile screen , Ive let it sit therefor an hour and nothing. But the real problem is that I cant find a way to restore to stock and start over. With the Epic we use a windows program called ODIN in case something like this happens. Ive tried using ADB but the phone is showing offline so I cant push any commands to it. Is there an app like ODIN that will let me factory reset this phone and try this again? Thanks

Sounds like you rooted and flashed CM7 onto it without having s-off. If I'm not mistaking there is another thread similar to this one somewhere. Also you need cclockwork 3.0.0.6 to flash back and fourth from stock and other roms.
you need pd15img.zip on your SD
pd15img.zip reboot into hboot with that file and the part7-0000000000.bin file on your sd and it will load and ask you to push volume up to confirm then wait, it will restore the phone i know i did it, took me 3 damn days to figure out you need that part7.bin file on your sd with that pd15img.zip file...or its a no go, trust me this WILL def work...its a life saver, i did the same thing you did...had clockwork and no s=off...now i successfully restored it and sent it back to tmobile because before i solved it i panic and called for a replacement, told em it wont turn on, they sent the new one, and about 20 mins ago i flashed cm7 after folling this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996 to turn s=off...works great good luck
Where do i get the part7 file and the other one? Thank you

It was creates with you permanent rooted it.. should be on your SD card. In the rooting instructions it tells you to keep that file around.

Just make sure that u dnt keep tryin to flash the rom cause u gonna end up gettin the cant mount cache & data errors, which once that happens nothin can b done with the mt4g.. So if u used the gfree method to root the phone u should have the part7-xxxxxxxx.bin file, stick that to the root of the sd card & put the pd15 file to the root of the sd card, powerdwn or battery pull, reboot into recovery & let the phne do its thing..
I don't think he has that part7-xx......bin file for his mt4g phone since he did not run gfree patch. You can't do stock nandroid restore also because that requires CWM 2.5.1.4 but you can always give it a shot.
Good luck with your boss, hope you don't get fired.

I didn't use the gfree method for getting perm root.
So i never got that part7 file that you speak of....
I have found them online to download but even using someone elses i still doesnt load the .zip from hboot :{
I downloaded the glacier file , like 350 MB or something , renamed it to PD15IMG.ZIP (had to leave the .zip out because windows). Then I found the part7.bin file from another thread. Put both on sd card. Vol down and power, it found the pd15img file and started restoring the image. 15 minutes later the phone boots up just like brand new! Thank you to everybody who helped with this! Sometimes I dont know what i'd do without this place!
P.s.- he still wants gingerbread any suggestions as to best rom?
Thanks again everyone

I think you made a fine choice with CM7. Just make sure you are rooted and have flashed the latest clockworkmod through ROM manager (3.0.2.4 I believe) and it should flash without issue.
I am in a bit of a pickle. I rooted my brand new Nexus S, but in the excitement, I accidentally flashed a kernel for Cyanogenmod first instead og the ROM first, THEN the CM7. Now it won't go pass the unlocked bootscreen. I have searched for solutions, but can't find any. If only the Nexus S had a SD card, I would know what to do, but how do I get a stock kernel transferred to the phone when I can only get it into Clockwork mod? I tried factiory reset and all, but it is not the problem, it is the kernel. I can get into CWM but nothing happens when I try to mout USB storage to transfer files and/or new kernel..... Help, anyone? Please?
Benny. Denmark
You can mount your sdcard from recovery, there is an option for mounts in the first menu. Then transfer whatever file you want to flash.

It doesn't work. Ther phone shows up for a split second in Windows file explorer and then closes again.
Please post the exact model of your phone and the exact file you flashed, and the exact CWM recovery file you flashed.
Also, if you can get to recovery you haven't bricked your phone
If you haven't done it already I'd also flash superuser. If you are after a stable ROM based on CM7, I'm using NSCollab 1.0.39 and works very well.

when you flashed cyanogenmod after flashing the kernel, cyanogenmod automagically overwrote the kernel that you flashed first, so thats not the issue. try wiping data, then reflash cyanogenmod and the gapps.
simms22, the issue occurred because after flashing the kernel, I could not flash anything because it just halted on the Google screen with the open padlock. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled the Samsung drivers, and it helped, I then could see the phone in Windows Explorer and was able to transfer a new kernel and a new ROM, which actually was the NSCollab which I like because of the speed. Thanks all for helping me out. Have a nice one.

ahh, i misread what you wrote. im glad that it got straightened out anyways
Good to hear
NSCollab 1.0.39 is pretty stable with the Matr1x 5.5 kernel it comes with and you'll notice a better battery life too.

Hey Guys,
So im in a bit of a peculiar situation here, I downgraded my device from Gingerbread to 2.2.1 following the wiki (kudos to whoever did that, thanks a lot!). However, when I got to 2.2.1, it now only mounts my SD card as read only? I have ordered another one to see whether i just got a crappy sd card (Tmo refused to replace it under warranty)... However, I have pushed Visionary and Gfree, in preparation to root this sucker, and have my way with it...but heres the caveat, is that now, when I try to boot into recovery, I get that stinking little phone with a red triangle on it...what does this mean?
Regards
Trevor
That means you don't have a custom recovery installed
Download Rom manager from the market and install the clockworkmod recovery
Edit: until you root the phone my post is useless the custom recovery is for after you root the phone
If you need help rooting the phone mackster248 has a great 2 part video showing you how to root the MT4G on YouTube

right, so if i am still able to root my thing using gfree then flash custom recovery? So...im not hosed yet?
trev
PS, is there an way to reformat an sd card through ADB, i think it may be read only because of some corrupt sectors, and would like to try to reformat it...does the fdisk utility do this?
regards

A month ago I rooted my Mytouch 4g and flashed Toasted Marshmellow with no problems. I wanted to go to Synthetic Nightmare's ICS rom since JB seemed a little too glitchy and used ROM Manager to do the flashing for me. However, when my phone booted back up, the white H-boot screen popped up instead of CWM. Instead of pulling the battery out, I accepted the update which brought my phone back to stock froyo. I still have s-off and my phone is no longer rooted. I tried to permroot and flashanother rom again today only for my phone to be stuck ont the Mytouch 4g screen.
I don't know if I should go back to s-on and try the process of s-off and permroot again?
Thoughts!
Have you tried pushing recovery back to your phone with adb? Or if u r stuck on the white logo screen u will have to use adb to communicate with your phone, to regain root? Someone? Possibly if u tried to reflash a rom then your boot.img may be different than the rom since you weren't rooted? I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud..brainstorming

Ok, push the pd15img.zip into bootloader and reset back to stock if you haven't already done so. Then do the gfree rooting method to gain Perma root.

I'm able to push the pd15.img with no problems and was able to successfully root through visionary, but now it seems I can't flash any roms. I've tried numerous times only to get either stuck at the mytouch 4g screen and once it got an error and the installations was aborted. Everytime this happens, I have to repush pd15.img and re-root. It's been going on since yesterday and am so frustrated to the point I'm ready to give up.
I love having custom roms, but this is stupid!
Also, try using 4ext recovery instead of CWM. Maybe you will not get an error. Wipe data, cache & dalvik, the format everything except sdcard. Then install zip from sd (rom of your choice)

Yup that's why I recommend it its the best. Also take any pd15img.zip files on the root of your SD card and either move it into another folder or delete it completely to avoid any similar problems from happening.

Any error in installing a rom I have ever heard of, 99% of the time has been from cwm recovery. I've used both, but I'd never use anything but 4ext now. Glad you're up & going again...
