I have updated the drivers on my kindle through ADB so now on my x64 Windows 7 it showes up as an Android phone USB driver/device but when running Adb Devices in the cmd through ADB no devices appear. I don't have the SDK or anything do I need it? Help if possible please .

I've managed to get the Incredible to install fine under Windows 7, but the ADB wont' install for me under Windows XP. Has anyone else had this issue, or am I just that unlucky today?
A fix
Hey I managed to get it working here is how:
Go to the location of your ADB USB driver which you can find in your_sdk_path\usb_driver. (ex. C:\Program Files\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver)
Open up: android_winusb.inf.
Now if your on a 32 bit install of XP scroll down to the section labled [Google.NTx86], if you're on a 64-bit system scroll down to the [Google.NTamd64] section. In that that section paste in:
; HTC Incredible
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C9E&MI_01
;
Now save the file.
Now if you plugin in the device and select that directory to install the USB driver from to install it should work. Finally go to your_sdk_path\tools. (ex. C:\Program Files\android-sdk-windows\tools) and run adb kill-server, and then adb start-server. When the server has started run adb devices and your incredible should show up.
thanks man, just had the same prob and came across your thread. worked perfectly
hello all,
i have updated my streak to the 2.1 build but i cant for the life of me get adb to work? any ideas what problem may be? i think adbd is running on streak and usb debug says its active but my windows pc nor my linux one can detect the device in adb ?
Install Dell Suite software, navigate to C:\Program Files\Dell\PC Suite\Mobile Phone Monitor, locate ADEProxy.exe rename to adb.exe and replace with wherever you are running adb from. Also make sure adb.exe is not running in task manager before doing this.
hi guys im getting anoyed with my pc and phone now ive followed so meany tutorial etc on how to install adb but still not getting any where so far i have done
1. downloaded sdk from code.google.com
2. extracted to c:/android-sdk-windows
3.installed htc wildfire drivers
4.created a path on enviromentable variuble
5.ive loaded the skd.exe
6. ran cmd and ran adb and adb devices but my pc will not reconise this command any adice please thanks
ps ive also tryed using qtaADB it connect to the phone but dnt show any thing frustrated now lol thanks daddyspud
First download adb for windows from " http://developer.android.com/sdk/ ".
then u will get a file named " android-sdk_r08-windows ".rename it as "Android SDK" after extracting.
download proper driver for your phone and install them .now move "Android SDK" to root of hard drive that is to c\Android SDK...
now update the adb using SDK manager that is inside Android SDK.all packeges even usb drivers.
connect the phone via usb and windows should recognize it as android phone .
now take "cmd".command prompt and type the following code .
cd\
cd Android SDK\tools\
adb devices
Now Adb is set if it shows your phone code ..
Sorry about my english .
I had a hardtime making my computer recognize my wildfire, I had to manipulate the driver to make it find it. just google it and you shall find .. if thats the problem ..
thanks worked a dream cheers buddie
They changed the location of the adb.exe file with the new SDK release using the example given would be :-
cd\
cd Android SDK\platform-tools\
easier in my opinion to add to path in windows
c:\android sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe
make sure u add java.exe to path aswell
Hope this helps

Well what do you want to do with adb?
run the sdk but i get errors when i start it "error 2" cant find file.
Failed to get the adb version.
Edit - Never mind i have sorted it.
Just wondering if it is possible to use adb to reroot 6.2.2 without installing the Android SDK, because it takes up so much space. I have installed the drivers, and have the adb.exe and dll files, but nothing shows up under ADB Devices.
Can someone help?
You do not need to install the entire sdk!!!! Just install kfu and thats all you need. You only need the drivers adb fastboot and a minimal installation is tiny.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
Ok, does KFU root 6.2.2?
yes - if you patch it to br3:

Issue has been solved see last posts
For some reason when I run "KFU" it says windows cannot find tool/wget and when kfu loads up everything i click says it cannot find path specified. I have tried moving it to C:\ and using cmd... I have also tried earlier versions of kfu but to no avail. i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473212 but nothing there helped I dont know what to do can someone please help me..
Sidenote, I have a kindle with 6.2.2 and im using windows 7.
I have rooted a kindle before with kfu and it worked almost flawlessly and that was around kfu 2...
espacially on win7 it seems to be be important to move and rename kfu that it is c:\kfu - it don't like spaces in pathname
check the tools folder of kfu - there should be wget.exe along with all other needed commands - it not -> redownload
i don't double click on run.bat - i use to open a (elevated) command prompt, cd to c:\kfu and enter run.bat
hope this helps ...
That is exactly what i have done it is in c:\kfu no spaces i have used cmd and typed exactly what you said before but when kfu loads it says "adb status offline""adb rooted no""boot status unknown"
I have also redownloaded it multiple times i tried the 9.2 kfu and patched it but that didnt works either i have even tried two different win7 computers and on the other win 7 i tried using kfu 8 but it said adb status offline
what does the device manager say under "android phone" ?
kf is in normal boot mode ?
allready tried a hard reset ? (holding pwr button ~20sec till it turns off - pwr on again)
some other ideas:
restarting adb on pc by issuing "adb kill-server" from the tools directory
checking with "adb devices"
check if you have c:\windows\system32 in your path ("path" at a command prompt)
android adb interface under android phone...
i hit normal boot manually power off and on the KF and the utility is stuck at waiting for device...
kill server goes through but list of devices shows nothing
and path on cmd shows up as c:\users\jamil>
i saw another post that said type set into cmd but that seems to not have done anything
thanks again for helping
this is what path shows
