Flashing CWM problem - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey,
i can´t flash CWM on my Galaxy S. What I found out:
My Galaxy S with build number Gingerbread.XWJVI and baseband XXJVO have to get another kernel, like a CF-Root kernel, to be able to flash CWM. But I don´t really know which I have to choose. There´s no CF-Root kernel near at mine. Or does exist any other solution for my problem?
Thanks and merry x-mas!

Flash jvt, then flash cf-root for jvt and you will get root and cwm

Where do I get the firmware? samfirmware.com?

Nope... Samfirmware has shifted to www.sammobile.com...
Edit : why go out there when we wud get it out here in xda... Just search for ramads (stock) or somators (stock+root) thread...

New User, looking for some help

Hi all, new user here and looking for some help.
Im using an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S Froyo 2.2 and I want to root it so that I can install an app that allows me to pick which screen is my home screen.
I downloaded the i9000 1-click root and everytime I get to the recovery mode, I select update.zip but it never updates and gives me an error something like:
E:\ Signature Verifaction Failed
Update aborted
(sorry if it isnt correct, at work at the moment)
Anyway, my baseband version is I9000NEJP2 and my kernel build number is FROYO.NEJP5
Does anyone have any tips for me as the only phone I have ever rooted was the G1 and that took me quite a while to work out what to do.
Thanks in advance,
Standard problem.
You need to flash a kernel that supports clockwork recovery. Check the i9000 forum for kernel related threads (speedmod or cf-root). If you don't know hours to use odin, check the reference guide thread in the general forum.
Why don't you just install z4root?

That app simply roots the phone. Instead, you need a solution to replace 3e recovery with 2e. Those are two different things.
I just searched up on that cf-root thing and do I need to have something called ODIN installed before I flash my kernel?

Yes. CF-Root is installed via Odin. The CR-Root thread includes some instructions on how to flash it.
Read the reference guide on how to use Odin/where to find it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
Personally, I use the SpeedMod kernel because it has Clockwork recovery already included. The SpeedMod author also has a great tutorial on how to install it.
SpeedMod thread
SpeedMod installation guide
SpeedMod download (just pick the SpeedMod K12I with HZ=256 version.

[Q] Can I root without custom kernel

Hi I have an I9000 and I have upgraded the OS to 2.3.5 using the stock firmware from samfirmwares.com I think it is using Odin. The question I have and I have googled it and searched and read this and many other forums is can I root my I9000 without flashing CWM and a customer kernal?
On my 10.1 tab I just have a zip file I drop in root and reboot to the recovery menu and update it and it's done. I want the same for my I9000 (just for Titanium backup and SU) and I want to stay on the stock rom.
Thanks
Brian
Nop that isn't possible!
Only way to root 2.3.5 is flashing a custom kernel.

It is not a single-click process but two.
First of all use CF(the least complicated kernel) that applies to JVS to obtain root(from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 ) and then flash the stock kernel(from perkas stash-- http://perka.zapto.org ).The result would be your phone has root and only the stock kernel.
Best wishes.
Thanks thats what I wanted I'll do that then. Why do you flash twice though? why CF then perka?
Thanks for your help

Twice because----
1)the CF would root your phone
and since you don't want anything other than the native/original kernel,
2)flash the kernel as suggested.
You could as well not go for the second flash but simply remove the minor tweaks and reboot for them to be removed.
No big deal/difference really.

Flashing another ROM

Just got my GT-N7000 , and my fingers are already itching to flash another STOCK ROM . Is it safe to assume that ALL the GT-N7000 have the same hardware specs ?
Mine came with UBKK2 firmware/Kernel , that is not listed among the custom kernels of CF-Root; this is why I want to flash another stock ROM (not yet interested in any custom ROM) . I am thinking of flashing the latest pre-ICS firmware . Any suggestion on a firmware version ? Should I pay attention to the baseband version included in the ROM ?
Also, since Kies does NOT show me any available updates I guess ODIN is my only option ( not yet been rooted ) . Will ODIN increase the flash counter even if I flash a stock ROM ?
Thanks in advance,

All GT N7000s are the same. Flash yourself some ICS.
Edit: Flash the latest German GB ROM if you don't want ICS.

Nope, flashing with Odin doesn't increase flash counter if you flash STOCK roms
Read this thread (post #2) for instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Edit:
btw, my suggestion is same as the above: flash new ICS rom, you have link to tutorial in the post above (post #1, next to ICS rom)
If you want newest GB rom with root, I think you have to flash older stock rom first, root it, and then flash newest GB rom using Mobile Odin + everroot ...
well since I am not rooted yet, I would need to flash and older firmware that will allow me to install CF ROOT AND CWM.

Calm down, it's not an huge problem. Before you start flashing, you have to know what you're doing.
Just flash the stock rom using Odin, and you will be fine. =)

Hey
yeah i had the same problem when flashing the Devil kernel but after 1-2 battery pulls i got into devils touch recovery.
if thats not helping you could always flash a Semaphore/Stock or whatever kernel with odin and that should give u a new recovery.
if id be you id go to stock rom then flash a kernel with recovery and then flash whatever rom you want from recovery
p.s if you wanna flash a rom with devil kernel you should maybe just flash the kernel first (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1700904) and then flash the rom.
if you have got any questions about roms/kernels/modems or whatever you can PM me and ask

You don't have to do it that way, instead you can use temporary clockworkmod and install superuser from there. You can finish rooting in less than 5-10 mins this way.

Root XWLSK
You can use Siyah Kernel "‘Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar‘ for rooting your Galaxy S2 I9100 on XWLSK Android 4.1.2 firmware update. Simply flash the same using ODIN.
If the phone goes into a loop, go to recovery mode and do a wipe cache. It should fix the issue.
I have used mobile ODIN app to select the file "I9100XWLSK" and then for kernel "Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar" with options wipe checked.
Also, checked the USB Debugging option and then clicked on Flash.

Which Official Samsung Jelly Bean ROM is the best according to you? One that would work in India too. Give the Download Links for the ROM and the ROOTING Kernel too. So far I am having a major problem finding a WORKING KERNEL to ROOT this new update XWLSK.

Attached is CWM SU zip. Download and copy to your external sd card>Power Off phone>Press the Volume up+Home+Power key>Choose the option to apply upgrade from external storage>Choose the zip>Select "Yes">Reboot your phone.
This will root your phone and install Super SU. There is no cf root kernel and in most probability there will not be one. Understand that your device is ~2 years old, the world has moved on to better devices...

This is no valid reason for things not to work on the SGS II. The SGS II was the BEST phone available at the time I bought it nearly two years ago. I bought it on the first day it landed in India.

Thanks mate, I was finally able to get root using the Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar. I figured that an App called LBE Privacy guard was interfering with it and I uninstalled it. After that your Siyah-s2-v6.0b5.tar has worked. :good:
