I finally figured out that MS Voice Command is the program that makes the keyboard input box be slow to appear. It was taking like 6 seconds to bring up the list to choose another input method. On my Jamin, I'm 100% sure that MS Voice is to blame. After uninstalling it the delay disappeared. This is a real drag since I used MS Voice all the time for making calls. I wonder if the K-jam has the same problem? Anyone have a work around for this problem?
Well spotted That's always the first step on the way to a solution. I also depend heavily on this software so I hope a work-around's available.
Regards
Could this be the cause of the thumbpad (T9 pad) not coming up all the time, requiring a soft reset? I'm using WM2003SE btw.
I aslo stopped using MS voice command on my JAMin. I did a hard reset and did not install PocketZenPhone, Phone Alarm and MS command.
Now my JAMin runs awesome! I can change the keyboards instantly and I can even use full screen keyboards which never would work before.
I do miss voice command but I can live without it. In fact the built in voice dialer is not bad. I don't miss having to say the full name and then home or mobile or whatever. The less I have to talk to my phone the less crazy i feel. Plus it works better over bluetooth headsets.
MS Voicecommand & slowwww SIP
I encountered this prob about 4 months ago after upgrading my Xda2 to WM5.0. When I upgraded my device to the prophet, the exact same thing happened.
Here's my work-around:
1) Do a hard reset
2) Export the entire registry
3) Install MSVC
4) Import the registry saved in step 2
VOILA... now I have MSVC & a normal SIP change....
This is a great find. I've been trying to find out why my selector take 7 seconds to pull up. I thought it was keyboard skin or some other input program I installed. Didn't realize it was MSVC.
Now only if we can figure out which registry changes are causing this problem...

For those of you who don't have MSVC installed already, Step 1 is not necessary, i.e. no hard reset.
All you need to do is export the registry before installing MSVC, install MSVC and restore your registry.
I might have found something
I installed the trial of SKTools and was playing around with the "invalid registry entry" tool and deleted a few entries that were flagged. I remember one that had something to do with VC and started with a weird character "%a" or similar. Sorry that I can't remember better, but I did not realize right away that that fixed the problem, since I was only "cleaning up", but the keyboard selection is working well right now and that was the only thing I changed in the meantime that had anything to do with it. Hope that's the right direction.
Seems to be fine after the newest ROM update
I had the Slow keyboard with older ROM
Phone: JAMin
Some tweaks may solve the problem.
I have a Cingular 8125 with 200Mhz CPU (reportedly running at 180Mhz only).
I use Omapclock to speed up PocketSNES, but it doesn't speed up the keyboard selector at all.
Also tried the Registry trick, but restoring the original Registry after installing Voice Command clears everything, settings, program icon... ... and disable Voice Command.
So it's not a good solution.
Finally tried to tweak the Registry (for generally speeding up WM5).
It's worked so perfectly for me.
The Keyboard Selector menu pops up in 1 second or less, almost instantly.
Before tweaking, even without Voice Command installed, it takes 2 to 4 seconds.
Here are the steps:
---------------------------------------------------------------
I.
Increase cache: Noticable effect on WM5.01. Use any registry editor:
* Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
* Change 'limit' to 8192 up to 32768
* Close registry editor (Save)
* Soft reset
II.
Disable Animated Menu (I know, doesn't relate much with the KB selector problem, but it speeds up the whole system anyway)
Use Registry Editor:
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\GWE\Menu,
* Change "AniType" from default 6 to 0
III.
Use any add-on that close the programs for real, not just minimize it (SPB Pocket Plus, or PHM Free Utilities, whatever)
IV.
Increase SD card access rate:
Use Registry Editor:
* hklm\drivers\sdcard\clientdrivers\class\mmc_class
* hklm\drivers\sdcard\clientdrivers\class\SDMemory_c lass
Change both BlockTransferSize from 64 to 128 or 256
(I use 256. Don't know if it make the reading/writing process any unstable, but so far no problem for me ever. Plus I have backup, so why worry)
V.
Affects WM5.0 and can increase overall speed up to 20%
Use Registry Editor to change from default 0 to:
* [HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS] CacheSize = 4096 EnableCache = 1 * [HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt] ReplStoreCacheSize = 4096
SOFT RESET
(For me, I did everything before Resetting)
PHM registry Editor can be downloaded from http://www.phm.lu/products
Good luck.
If that does not solve your problem, please tell. Because then I know that I might accidentally did something else that made it work

Is there any update on how we can fix this besides importing/exporting the registry after install?
I followed chaintox's directions for speeding up the device, which did seem to speed up some of the menu drawing and a few other things that it should have, but it did not help the speed of the choosing a SIP at all. I've removed all third party SIPs, and also disabled the PhonePad SIP, and it's still very slow (around 15-30 seconds).
I'm not willing to do a hard reset right now... is there anyone that has the registry export from before and after installing Voice Command? That would let me see exactly which keys were created, so I could look at removing some one by one until I find what's causing the slowdown.
Thanks in advance.
I found out that the slow SIP selector bug has something related to AKU2.2 and up...
I reflashed back to the original dopod ROM with AKU 2.15 and my SIP selector is fast even with voicecommand installed.
I'm curious if AKU 3.3 has this bug and whether WM6 has this issue too? This was probably the primary reason for ditching the latest ROMs and sticking with the original.
Well, I installed Voice Command on an WM5.0 (no AKU) emulator image to get the registry diff, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Installing Voice Command also did not cause the SIP slowdown on the emulated PPC, so I tend to agree with everyone that it may be AKU2.2 specific. I'm curious to see the answer to mr_yellow's question about AKU3.3 or WM6... I may be willing to upgrade if it fixes this issue.
I just remembered that I did test AKU3.3 (I think i flashed AERGS's AKU3.3 ROM) and it did have the same laggy SIP selector bug/feature... so the only other option is WM6... Does anyone know if you the SIP selector is slow for WM6? This is for a G3 device (dopod818pro)...
Thanks,
doh!...
Hi all,
I have been noticing that my input selector is really slow so after much digging around I came upon this thread and Chaintox's instructions.
However I read his first instruction to increase cache and followed that with a soft reset and now my JAMin isnt completing the soft reset
It is just hanging at the SPB safe mode menu reboot screen.
Is there anything I can do?
please help! and contribute to the forgive-a-noob fund
Cheers

Wow, i forgot about this thread... I found a good workaround/solution. Not sure if it'll work on all devices. but it worked on my HTC Prophet.
Figured out the exact keys in the registry to import/export.
see this wiki page for more details

This can be done after you've installed VC.
Cool TY for that info !

This fixes the problem PRONTO!
Under my earlier ROMs worked everything well, but now when I try to set my own melody for alarms (those under Time controll panel) it does not work properly and the terrible T-Mobile's beeping is ringing instead. Can anybody help me?
Convert your files that you want as alarm tones, crop them so they aren't too big, and paste them in your windows directory
...missunderstanding: I have my melodies in Windows folder, they are visible and selectable under the controll panel, they are really selected as active (Nancy Sinatra Bang Bang at 7:20 a.m. and another melody for the launch time every working day), but ringing is another melody.
if the files are too big they won't work either, i've yet to figure out the specifics, but as long as it is small enough, and a wav, it should work. i'd try converting with different sample settings and what not, different bit rates and all that.
But the same sound files (exactly the same) worked for me under 2.24 Orange :shock:

Did you happen to install PocketMusic (or any other music/audio program for that matter)?
PocketMusic likes to take over the associations for certain files (say mp3s, etc.), which in turn doesn't allow the WM op. system from using them as ringtones, alarms, etc.
If that's the case, remove the file association from these programs to allow you to reassign the desired tones for your alarm.
No, this is not the case. I have installed Resco Audio Recorder, but this application havn't stolen the associations. And the custom melodies for my contacts work still perfectly, only for alarms and reminders is used T-Mobile's beeping instead of my melodies...
Problem seems to be solved. It was caused by Spb Pocket Plus. When I changed in the registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House\Pocket Plus\1\AlarmsEnabled (DWORD) from 1 to 0, my settings are now taken into the consideration by my Wizard. There is as weel the key (STRING) DefaultPlaySoundOptions and the value of this key was alarm2.wav and some strange figures. I really do not know where these settings borned, but I am happy to disable them...

Glad you figured it out, because I just about ran out of ideas since it works fine on mine. (Changing the codec for your .wav file to a more PCM friendly version was the next idea)...
Hello,
I'm a new TyTN user; my PDA history: Psion 5mx (+ Siemens S35i as IR modem), Nokia 6260 (somewhat limited, not as suited for input, but ok for recalling/reading stuff).
Main intended use is mail reading / 3G internet access and flight navigation (using PocketFMS + a Holux GPSlim 236).
I got the TyTN on Friday, but returned it on Saturday due to some issues with the keyboard (some keys didn't respond consistently: a, e, p, r, t, space, del, ...).
Anyway, I managed to play around with it an evening, and have some questions (some I found in the faq).
1. Where does the device get its bluetooth name? Mine didn't not use the device name (which by default is PocketPC), but used my full name (I'm guessing from owner info). I noticed in the FAQ there is a registry hack to set the bluetooth name, but can this be done "the normal way"?
2a. Is it possible to change the order of the programs in "Start > Programs"? Currently, they are listed alphabetically with folders first, but I would like the ones I use most often to appear on top, as to minimize scrolling.
2b. I noticed it is possible to move programs to a new subfolder in programs, but it gives a warning that this might cause some programs not to run properly. Is it known which programs don't like being moved (or when the issues occur)?
3. Cleartype only seems work in portrait mode. In the FAQ there is a registry hack; is Cleartype useable on the TyTN in landscape mode?
4. I'm using a number of mail accounts, but also a number of access points (wifi at work, 3G outside of work, ...). In the mail application, the SMTP server is linked to a mail account. However, if I want to use the same mail account using different access points, there should be an easy way to change the SMTP server. On my Nokia 6260, I created dummy accounts (for each SMTP server I needed), and changed the account by which a mail is sent (this is a property of the mail on Symbian). Can I do this on the TyTN? Are there perhaps better tools to achieve this (change it automatically with an access point, ...)?
5. I got the English version (I prefer my softwares in English ). The downside to this is that in text entry, it only suggests words for the English language. Is it possible to add a second language (just for text entry, not in the user interface), in my case Dutch, to the device? I noticed there are dictionary managers that allow one to edit the user dictionary, so perhaps there are users that converted/created one to contain many Dutch words...?
6. I'm considering the Nokia HS-12w (bluetooth stereo headset with lcd display). How is the audio quality for this headset (in audio and calls) in combination with the TyTN? I mailed JetWare regarding their mobile extension, and they say they have an issue with their latest release (doesn't display caller name, unlike the last beta), but this will be solved. They also said "the TyTn does not allow us to route audio over the Hands-free Profile connection to support voice dialing from the HS-12W (or any other hands-free device)". Are there workarounds for this?
Finally, are there applications you can recommend that no wm5 device should be without (I found HTC X-button and MagicButton on this site)?
Or wm5 applications I certainly should not try?
Thanks!
(both for reading through this long first posting, as well as for answers you could provide)
Jörg
I could provide you links to numerous forum threads answering your questions. But why won't you bother to search and read before ask? Don't you understand that multiple questions about the same just make the forum less useful?
Hello,
Yes, I understand that and have searched prior to posting (otherwise I wouldn't have been able to refer to the faq, or wouldn't have found MagicButton).
Granted, some of my questions were partly answered (I referred to related faqs), or are things I can test.
But I found nothing regarding my guestions 2 (program order), 4 (SMTP changing) and 5 (dictionaries for other languages).
Jörg
One way I can think of solving 2 would be a create a new menu (Using WM5NewMenu) that has your most used programs and then tying it to a hardware button or softkey .. dont know if that will work for you or not ..

I am new as thread poster in this forum, so please forgive me if I fail to follow the social code here
With great pleasure I have tested the flavours of WM6.1 and WM6.5 cooked by members of this forum. Only two things where still annoying me:
(1) hp iPAQ Wireless Manager has not been cutting edge since WM2003SE, the HTC Comm Manager is much nicer
(2) the top row in WM6.5 lacks 3D symbols (unless TouchFlow/Manila is installed)
Since I have some hacking experience, I decided to go for the lowest hanging fruit and make HTC Comm Manager work for my hp 614c.
Installation instructions:
a) install the .cab file
Try the Comm Manager, and if the Wireless LAN choice on the Settings menu doesn't work:
b) copy cpl17.exe to \Windows
c) backup [HKLM}Software\HTC\CommManager] and edit the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\WLAN]
Default : string = \Windows\cpl17.exe
Try the Comm Manager, and if the WiFi button doesn't work:
d) backup [HKLM}Software\HTC\CommManager] and edit the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager\WLAN]
DeviceName : string = {98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}\SDIO86861
e) if that devicename doesn't work either, visit
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WZCSVC\Param eters\Interfaces]
and write down the name of the <key> you find there (in my case SDIO86861). Then search the registry to identify the <ClassID> containing the referring key (most probably the ClassID can be found in the Power settings comb), and set the DeviceName (as above) to {<ClassID>}\<key>
Enjoy!

Is the WiFi button functional, while the Phone button isn't?
That is really odd, because only Wifi is non-MS-standard in the HTC implementation of WM6.1/WM6.5. Please check the Power control settings in your registry for redirects of the phone API.

Swell dude
cpl17.exe is a wrapper to enable the Wireless LAN settings page to launch from HTC Comm Manager. The change of the Default key is directly associated with that.
Regarding the Devicename, it seems like it varies from device to device. The original HTC setup did not work for my 614c.
hi!.
thanks for the tweak!. for make it work i had just to change the ID at the end of the string by writing SDIO86861.
btw, does anybody knows if there is any more friendly UI for the camera app?..

As I recall GPRS/3G switching is supported by changing any button's name to 3G - and Advanced Config can do that 4 U. However the supported number of buttons is fixed (6, 10 and 12 button modes does not work)

Thank you ! I
I'll start this thread to share my knowledge aquired after many hours of testing regarding the registry settings of Microsoft Voice Command on Topaz with WM6.5 ROM from HTC although the settings may be applicable to other cooked ROM's and phone models.
First of all, I don't know why but different versions of MSVC are installed with different registry settings so I will only talk of the final result. These characters "" do not need to be completed.
Here comes the tricky part. To make MSVC work you need to alter the following registry settings:
HKLM\Software\OEM\VoiceCommand
Type: String
"Path" = "\Windows\VoiceCmd.exe"
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring
Type: Dword
(BE CAREFUL HERE, IF IT'S A STRING, YOU NEED TO FIRST DELETE THE STRING AND CREATE A DWORD WITH THE FOLLOWING VALUES)
"AttenuationCategory" = "2" (it's the setting I'm using)
(This value can be changed. It tells how much the ringtone is reduced for the voice to be heard)
The rest of the values here do not need to be altered.
Next is:
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1
Type: Dword
(SAME HERE, IF IT'S A STRING, YOU NEED TO FIRST DELETE THE STRING AND CREATE A DWORD WITH THE FOLLOWING VALUES)
"AttenuationCategory" = "5" (it's the setting I'm using)
(This value can be changed. It tells how loud the voice in call announcements can be 1 TO 5 1=low 5=high)
The rest of the values here do not need to be altered.
Make sure that the following location's are set to:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0
Type:String
"Category" = "Ring"
and:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce
Type:String
"Category" = "VoiceCommand1"
Type: String
"Sound" = "\Application Data\Volatile\\TTSCallerID.wav
The rest of the values here do not need to be altered.
Do not forget to set your MSVC to announce incoming calls and to announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free if available.
If you want to assign the long call button from the phone to launch MSVC without a third party software then assign it from the personal folder in settings then edit the following registry key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C6
Type: String
"" = "\windows\voicecmd.exe\" (THE LAST SLASH IS CRITICAL, SO USE IT)
Leave the rest the way they are.
This are the settings for which dll should be used to initiate bluetooth communication: BTAGTEXT.DLL , VCBTHAG.DLL (it's installed by MSVC and this is the one you should use) and OEMAGW.DLL.
You should have something like this:
ex:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway
Type: String
"BTAGExtModule" = "\windows\vcbthag.dll"
If you want to use your wired headset to launch your MSVC then you need to long press the hang up button.
This setting were tested on the updated WM6.5 ROM from HTC website with MSVC version 1.6.21040 which works perfectly and 1.6.21725 which also works fine except for bluetooth voice command initialization from hands-free which does not work because I don't know why this version of MSVC closes the communication between phone and hands-free.
And last you should set you phone to not use single volume, if you do, the volume of the voice will be reduced with the ringtone, if you set them separately the voice will be spoken out loud even if you reduce the ringtone volume or system volume.
I hope this helps most of you out there who are desperatly trying to use MSVC and don't know how to set it to work the way it was supposed to.
P.S. For those who are trying to get the WWE eastern european 6.5 ROM (ex. Hungaria, Romania, etc), you can get it from HTC selecting in the country selection Ceska Republic. I don't know why but seems that other countries are not updated in the ROM section.
Hi,
I will add this to the MS Voice configger app i have set up.
Thanks for this!
You're welcome
It was my pleasure, I'm glad that someone will be able to use it and not to go through the same hardship as I did.
Dword v.s. String
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce
Type: Dword
"Category" = "VoiceCommand1"
In the HKCU key you mentoned above, My type in the phone showed a string, not Dword. And it seems I can't add new Dword "string" after deleting the string type.
Anything I missed?
Sorry, my mistake, I will edit it, it should be a string there.
Hi guys,
For the longest time after I upgraded my ROM, MSVC has stopped making incoming caller announcements. Everything else works, it just wouldn't make call announcement when a call comes in. Not on speaker, not on BT. I tried everything and it still didn't work.
I came across this thread and I tweaked the registry. As soon as I changed
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\Category from "VoiceCommand1" to "Ring", then incoming call announcement worked for me!!
So i was pretty happy about it, except it only worked for a few days. The last couple days it's stopped working again.
Taking a closer look at the registry I realize what I have is identical to what's posted here, except for -
HKCY/Control Panel/Sounds/TTSAnnounce/Sound
Instead of "\Application data\Volatile\\TTSCallerID.wav" I have "\Internal Storage\Backup and Restore\Application data\Volatile\\TTSCallerID.wav"
I guess it's a case where my ROM moves all volatile files from main memory to internal storage (like a SD card ... I use TouchDiamond1 which uses internal storage instead of SD card).
When I look at that folder, a TTSCallerID.wav file IS indeed generated everytime I make a call to my phone! It is just for whatever reason it fails to play that file!!
Has anybody experienced this? Can anyone help?
Voice Command Problem
Do you use some tweaking programs which could move the temporary folders from the main memory to the storage card or a custom rom which could be tweaked that way? As long as I now, you cannot move the location in which voice command writes his voice file as it is generated within the program.
Strange enough, call announce works after I made the following changes:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\TTSAnnounce\Category
Change from "VoiceCommand1" to "Ring"
That's different from what's reported on the 1st post, but it seems to work for my phone .... ??!?!
As for moving the volatile folder to internal storage ... it's a feature of my ROM (DiaDuit 1.6.7) ... the ROM automatically does that, even if I put files inside \Application\Volatile\ it moves them to the storage automatically. But everything seems to work fine, including MSVC after I made the above registry tweaks ... so I guess that wasn't the culprit.
Hi,
So I update the config app to version 1.2.
The above mentioned registry fix was already in the config app.
