Hangouts in Sense ROM?? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to have hangout's not be rotated 90 degrees on a Sense ROM, or is this just how life is?
This is the only thing keeping me on MIUI/CM7 right now because I know if I switch, my iPhone friends will try a hangout and if I can't participate using Google's OS, I'll never hear the end of it. I know, shallow right?

I don't blame you, but i think it's a flaw in the OS. my CM7 phone works perfectly and my TF101 works perfectly.

A proposal to Back to Basics.

I Propose that we go back to basics on the Newest 2.1 rom. They have the source, the offical rom, and now i feel we need to start from the begining to make a better end. The Evo is coming closer to our grasps, but those of us who can't afford it will stay with the Hero until we can get it for as long as a year or more. I know after watching the forums for quite some time that one problem has plaugued the functionality of the HTC Hero and the MT3G (Since Mt3g was my first android phone).
The Navigation of the Hero is something to be less desired of. There are three reasons why I feel, if this problem were fixed, could help us enjoy our devices a little better.
First, Overall navigation. The navigation seems to lag even when the phone is overclocked it feels like when you touch the screen it is not communicating with drivers or hardware directly and feels like it has to go through unneccessary checks and balances before telling hardware where your finger is at.
Second, Call Navigation. How many times have you ended a call only to dial another person when you put it in your pocket after locking the screen? Sure there are some who will say "I don't have this problem" Thats like saying "I am not human" I have watched my phone lag when navigating call menu's and im sure you all have as well.
Third, Music Navigation. The music application on the Hero is apauling at best. It lags and sometimes skips over several songs when forwarding to the next track. Even overclocked to 700 mhz the music app is not as responsive as it should be compared to other mp3 capable phones.
What it boils down to? No, this is not a rant. This is a proposal of back to basics and I feel regardless of how fast we can make the phones or how much we can strip the roms we will never be happy unless we solve the navigational issues driving this amazing piece of hardware down. If I had the capable means I would. I do not. I can only make proposals and suggestions hoping that the devs will see the same light I see in the same tunnel.
What do you think? Please be adult about this and creative answers only.
Theres an app for the dialer problem called Not Call Log found in the market. It seemes to be quicker when using a 1.5 ROM, but still does the trick.
I agree. Now that 2.1 has be released I think focus should be on it. However I'm sure there are devs that are doing so behind the scenes. I know Fresh has got a pretty sweet Rom out.

[APP IDEA] Adjust ring volume based on phone environment (via proximity sensor)

Basically adjust the ring volume depending on what environment the phone is in. I imagine two ring settings, 1 loud for one when it is in a pocket or bag (proximity sensor sensor is triggered) and 1 quieter one for when it is not (like on a table..). The light sensor could also be utilized in conjunction but I'm not sure if that would really add any value...
Doesn't sound too complicated to me..What do you guys think? Does something like this already exist?
EDIT: I think I may have heard HTC sense handsets already have this feature? Does anyone know?
My Desire doesn't have this, or at least not that I've noticed or can find.
I like it as an idea though.

Nope, I think what you mean by the HTC Sense handsets having the the feature of reducing the ringer volume when you pick up the phone. But nevertheless, you've got a great idea, though it'll probably add to the battery drain.

I am still looking for an app that will switch the phone to vibrate based on proximity sensor (i.e. when you put it in the case or pocket) and switch it back when removed. So far no luck (sigh)..
well now that the app inventor has been released (sorta, i havent gotten my invite yet..) this seems like something straightforward enough to give it a shot myself.
There is a app like that, I think its called roxy something, sane guys that did the beautiful widgets ... levelone?
Oh, and AFAIR it used microphone to analyze the ambience (boring ass meeting vs. subway station for example)

Not sure who you are replying to.
I was looking for a VIBRATE based on proximity sensor.
That app does not seem to do that.
Also, on a quick glance I noticed only an Android version.
The HD2 runs WinMo as released.

Anything Positive?

After reading numurous threads on the 2.2 update, i was wondering if anyone anywhere has anything positive at all to say about it? Or maybe you can point me to a link where somebody somewhere states something positive about this upgrade
yes.
Positively stay away from the stock 2.2 until they fix it
maybe 2.3 will be out soon.

Yeah, already decided that one
stock 2.2 is sorta good. it is froyo, you get all the advantages of it. dell lets it down with some basic settings issues, and the stock launcher sucks. but replace the launcher with adw or launcherpro, enable hardware acceleration, replace kernel with overclocking kernel and overclock, it becomes brilliant. its now the biggest, fastest, and best phone ive ever used.

it is. its a nice easy solution to those who want it. maybe dell wont do so bad when they try to compile a gingerbread rom, but i doubt it, theyll definitely screw it up again.
I actually like stock Froyo, I am using version 315. The only tweak I applied was turning on hardware acceleration. I didn't apply the above mentioned tweaks since I am ok with the speed as is, and I read many people are having WiFi and 3G problems with them. I don't run benchmarks, for me it is fine. Works speedy and fluid, no waits or freeze ups. Perhaps people are having a problem with high end gaming graphics, I am not into that, but videos run great. The only problem I can confirm is the browser redirect issue, I just use Skyfire and Opera Mobile or Opera Mini in those cases.
Steve's ROM is really good, I tried two versions. But he still cannot get a grip on screen rotation, so until that is settled I will stay on the official version. I do use Dell Stage, but only their music and web widgets. For me there is more than enough space on 7 pages of 4x4 icons -- besides, you can also use the ones in the first columns of the adjacent left and right screens that are still showing. So you actually have a 6x4 on the home screen.
Could it be better? Definitely. Is it perfectly usable? My verdict is yes. Let us face it, no matter how you do it, you can never please everybody. Some people will run into real problems -- no ROM will ever be perfect -- and some are just upset that things are not exactly they hoped they would be. I will move up to Steve's ROM when I am convinced that it is a major improvement in performance and functionality. Probably a few more iterations to go.
I've heard about the screen rotation problem, but honestly I don't think I see it, unless I just don't know what I'm looking for? My screen rotates fine, all the way around.
I like the Dell Stage Facebook widget, that is about it. The normal one is to small, I like how it covers basically a whole screen. The home screen is useless, did anyone ever use most recent program in XP even? Dumb feature.

I ran into the screen rotation problem all the time. Screen turned (e.g. landscape to portrait) and just wouldn't turn back, no matter how often I flipped the phone back and forth. Turning screen rotation off and on would get it working again -- but this happened 10 times or so each day, just too much hassle which interfered with using the device.
It may be a long time until 2.3 is (if at all) released, and the "fixed" version of 2.2 could be late Jan 2011.
I recommend upgrading to 315. Its a good refreshing change, and its really not that bad.
are you talking about rotation going in sorta upside down landscape? i had that in the 11548/309 and steves rom, but i havent seen it in 12332/315 yet.

How do you turn hardware acceleration on?
http://forum.pocketables.net/showpost.php?p=58530&postcount=12 <- this method is free, its alot easier if you pay for root explorer. basically just change "debug.sf.hw=0" to "debug.sf.hw=1" in /system/build.prop.
I'm running 1.1.1 on my white Streak and it's running very well. Can't wait until my phone is more than 30 days old so I can get it unlocked and run 1.4.6 though
I also ran 1.3 on my old black unlocked Streak and I had no complaints.

Thoughts on the new GB OTA 4.06.605.2

Well guys, I don't honestly know what to think about the new OTA. I tried it but wasn't overly impressed with it. However the speed and battery life is kinda nice. I still feel like it is lacking some features that a GB update should have had and I also feel VZW and HTC rushed this one. What do yall think?
Good Base For Future Mods
I suspect that the OTA will be a good base for future mods. I like it, but some of the features that I take for granted after using CM7 are missing.
I ran the leak for a while, I really liked it because of speed, but I can't believe they took mobile network, airplane and silent mode out of the power menu.

Thats a good point. I love CM myself, been a long time fan.
I've been using the rooted leak version for about 24 hours now, moving from an EVO based mod. The new one is definitely zippier, even on scrolling, etc. I'll keep using it, but looking forward to new custom builds once the source is out and modders get their hands on this kernel.
Well, this wasn't supposed to be as big a thing compared to when FroYo was released. Expectations of that magnitude for this release were not realistic.
Differences aren't visual per se, rather just a few functional ones.
All in all, gingerbread, meh.....

For me, it's a few things.
Feels unfinished. What I mean is some things are not what i expected. For example, i use google talk alot and with Froyo, the icon in the bar was a Sense based one. Now it's just Google Talk. This is fine, but i have to ask - was this on purpose? or a slip up?
next, I don't like NOT being able to disable ALL animations. In froyo, i could turn off the clock animations, weather ones and even the OS ones. I like that. In this one, I can't... only OS.
I have a had a few FC's with google voice setup (cleared up once configured) and Scrabble rarely notifies me of a move, but those could be app related.
battery life remains to be seen since I need to charge my phone all the way up while powered off.
it's definitely quick, but it took like 5 minutes before I started missing Synergy. Looking forward to seeing what can be done with the update.
It's a nice temporary fix for my ocd rom flashing but i think devs and most others are waiting for the final ota with some bug fixes. Isn't this lacking the new radio as well? Otherwise I am really happy it looks like they fixed the low space /data/data notification.
If we are lucky the devs will pump out some amazing roms for us that are stable and fast. Just gimme pulldown widgets, 5-row apps, recent apps in notification, and remapped rosie buttons and i'm set!

The ones posted in this forum are missing the radio but that is because the source that gave it to our devs asked that they not include the radio when they compiled and uploaded the rom. For what reason? Who knows....
I think the update should've added sense 2.1..
I miss power toggle pull downs and right rosie, but other than that, everything for me just works and works fast. If someone can add some 2.1 features, that would be nice. Been on this since it came out, zero issues, zero lag. I use my phone for business with some music, dont install more than zbout 4 apps. Everything flies. Look at it this way, if no other roms could ever have been ported over, is this a good update from when you first got your dinc? I say hell yes. The ports are great, im not baggin cause ive flashed every rom here, but this was made for our phone. Could it have had 2.1, sure, would it have worked as good, i doubt it. All ports have some issues, all be it very minor, but they also develop lag and more issues the longer you use them. Im willin to wait a week and see what happens, im sure we will see a different ota eventally, fat lady aint singin yet.
curious about battery life
I've been using miui and have been getting good battery life. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the new ginger
All I could think about was how ridiculously fast Sense 1.0 would be on any Gingerbread ROM.
If i were a dev I would definitely be cooking up a clean, streamlined, unbelievably fast Sense 1.0 ROM for users who don't need what 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 have to offer.
That being said, as far as the OTA goes... We'll see?
I like the speed of this OTA, too. It's very snappy. But I'm having a problem with voice input recognizing speech. Is this a problem for anyone else?
I was using bluetooth and I said open calender and it would randomly pick a number to call from my contacts.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It's a problem with GB in general. Try using voice search while driving and you can scream in the mic until you're blue in the face. It won't recognize anything you say.
Is that just for GB Sense based roms? I have never had a problem with voice input on CM7.

It might be a combo of things. All I know is it worked perfectly for me on Froyo.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=4399393a95831baa&hl=en
It was fun to try it out and it's fast, but I went back to Community RC5. I won't be looking back, im sure OVO will rip whatever is good and stick it in community.

(Idea/request/suggestion) CM9/AOKP hybrid

I flashed AOKP over the weekend. I really like the ROM, but I dont feel it is as stable as CM9 (relatively speaking). But the Rom Control feature in AOKP is BOSS!
So, naturally, i say to myself "if CM9 had Rom Control, that would be a pants-tent" . so i did a quick search and found this. It would be great if we had something like this for the vibrant.
I would imagine it wouldn't be the easiest task in the world, but i figured id start this thread, in hopes that someone who is capable of creating, or porting, this would see it and say "yes, i think ill do that."
If i'm not wrong the dev is the themer from Team Whiskey...it would be nice to have all those features on our vibrant...hope that a native english speaker will contact him

yes, mr. Apocalypse was once very active here on the vibrant forum. he had/has a vibrant and is very familiar with our device. i dont like bothering devs with requests like this though, they get tons of requests everyday (just see ANY rom thread for ANY device). if he stumbles across this that would be cool, but this is as far as ill go in pursuing this. ill throw it out there and just hope that willing eyes fall upon it.
What about AOKP wasn't stable for you? I've only found an issue sending some mms (some pics refuse to send, while others send no problem), and GPS doesn't work after deep sleep. Other than that, its been solid, but I don't use every feature either, so there could be some things I'm missing. I'm only asking because if CM9 has fixed GPS after deep sleep, I might consider switching. But, yeah, ROM control is awesome and I'd definitely miss it.

well ICS in general is less stable than CM....i guess you could say i ICS is less stable than gingerbread (on the vibrant).
for me specifically, its because of how many apps i have. when i use cm7.2 and flash the datafix.zip, the thing runs like butter. when i do it for ICS it isnt PAINFULLY slow, but it certainly isnt smooth either.
i also dont like the ram settings on ICS. ive noticed that its much easier to multi-task on froyo or gingerbread. on ics apps close much more quickly when running if the background. a lot of the time, they close right away.
i have some apps that i use daily that must be able to run in the background. tasker is one. another is my radio streaming app. i can run it in the background literally all day on cm7, but with every ics rom ive tried it closes within 5min.
and the reason i singled aokp out is because it is the base for pretty much every ics vibrant rom out there. my apologies if i seemed like i was calling it less stable than the others.
Fair points, now that you mention it, I have noticed ICS is aggressive about killing idle apps. I can't switch back to GB, though.

not even just idle apps.....both tasker and my radio app have persistent notification slots while running. NOTHING that is persistent in the notification menu should ever be killed by the system. ill start my radio app, the menu notification will run and ill turn my screen off and listen to music. a few minutes in the app will be killed and the music will stop. its almost anti-android in that sense.
That sucks. I used Amazon MP3 for hours on end on build 26, I think, with no issue, but haven't tried it since. I'll give it a try later when I have a chance. I'm on 32 right now because 33 kept boot looping on me.
