Hi
I've been hammering at this problem for weeks now and its really frustrating. I'm hoping someone can help me out here.
I cant get my phone to update to Froyo. I'm dying to see if the update wil fix my missing wifi issue that I picked up with the last update.
Currently I'm at:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 47.26.35.04u_7.05.35.26L
Kernel version: 2.6.v29-e3993620 htc-kernel(at)and18-2 #1
Build number: 2.06.709.3 CL193617 release-keys
Software number 2.06.709.3
The phone is unbranded, bought in China. I'm not sure if it was tampered with.
My phone picks up the OTA update:
OTA_Legend_Froyo_s_hTC_Asia_TW_3.15.709.3-2.06.709.3_release_160364d6o5a2er5k3kbifl
this fails on install, red triangle at about 25%
Tried doing it manually:
renamed above file to update.zip and copied to root of SD card
In HBOOT there is an error something about "legedimg" missing flashes up
Selecting recovery mode gets me a red triangle
pressed (power+vol up)
gets me into system recovery, there is a warning at the bottom "Can't open >cache >recovery>command
selected apply sdcard:update.zip, it works for a little while
get a bunch of stuff about "ro.cid" and and finally "HTC__621". "error in >sdcard >update.zip" (status 7)
Also fails.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here? HTC support has been useless. I'm now really stumped. Do I need a goldcard?
Hi! Yes, you need a goldcard because of the different CID you have and the update.
You may look for an update for your CID.
Why not root it while you're at it?
Thanks!
What is a CID? Is this not the correct update for my phone?
Are you suggesting that if I find the correct update I wont need goldcard or root?Where might I look for an update that matches my CID?
Since I'm on a mac, and dont have easy access to a PC rooting and goldcarding is a bit of a pain...
CID is Carrier ID, a number that locks your phone to carrier-specific firmware...
And yes, you need an update for your CID, then you don't need GC...
thanks. so do I have this straight:
1. My phone is locked to take only carrier specific firmware (even though its not actually sim-locked since I can use any sim I want) Sooo... "debranding" wont actually help
2. an update with the correct CID would work - though I dont know which one I need.
3. a goldcard would let me install the latest update via update.zip despite the CID issue
When I spoke to HTC support they said something about my phone originally belonging to Vodafone Germany. It was strange since I definitely have the chinese version loaded. I could try loading the vodafone germany update but then wont my phone become sim-locked again?
Am I getting this right? Thanks you have been a great help!
1. SIM lock and CID lock are two different things...
2. Yes, if the HTC said Voda Germandy, they're probably right...I presume you have purchased it from someone who used it before?
3. Of this I'm not sure, but It wil definitely help you root your Phone...
If you don't want to root, you can try to find an RUU upgrade - that's and app that will upgrade your phone from PC - try www.shipped-roms.com. But again, you need one that matches your CID.
edit: If you flash the RUU, rooting will be harder

Eemm, no. It was "new". They probably did something dodgy to keep the price down. Somehow, despite the CID issue, they were able to install the chinese firmware. It doesn't make much sense.

As far as I can see the latest for Vodafone Germany is "RUU_Legend_Vodafone_AT_GER_Mobilkom_1.31.177.3_Radio_47.26.35.04_7.05.35.26L_release_126862_signed.exe"
I dont think this is actually Froyo?
That might mean that a goldcard is the only option. I take it the goldcard would essentially allow me to bypass the CID check and install whatever update I wanted?
I tried to install the latest vodafone version via update.zip on the SDcard, no luck, "assert failed"... status 7...
Sorted!
Well, I managed to sort mine out and upgrade to Froyo. And I got my WIFI back too!
Very simple...
1. Create Goldcard: Droid Den - Android Guide: How To Create a Gold Card
2. Install RUU (Legend Froyo WWE): Index of /shipped/Legend/
Worked a treat and was actually very simple using the goldcard helper app they recommend on that post. You need access to PC.
I tried updating using update.zip through recovery but that didnt work.
Phone is now working 100%.
I suppose issues might come up when I try to update next time OTA (if there is another OTA for legend), but worse case scenario I will have to use another RUU.
glad it worked out for you... can't imagine going trhough the stress
that's why im waiting for the Official OTA
Good it worked
@Qksi1ver: why are you waiting for OTA?If you root now, you have a shot at S-OFF, If you update your HBOOT, you wont be able to S-OFF...just sayin...

So let's start this thread by saying I was stupid.
In my desperation to upgrade my ROM I went and flashed my Focus with the new Omnia engineering rom. Stupid yes but it flashed. The reason I did it was non of the Samsung focus retail Roms would flash with the WP7 flashing tool not even the jK2 ROM. Which is suppose to be the basic 7004 ROM.
Every time I flashed it would say "This Rom does NOT match the device" or "this device is NOt retail."
So let me just state I had the "RTM Mango" flash on my device already flashed and worked. I was trying to upgrade the firmware and radio stacks. The phone aways worked and was NOT a demo device.
I have tried to flash:
1. jK2 stock Rom same error as above
2. Rom for v1.4 won't work same error as above
3. Rogers Rom on my AT&T focus same error as above.
Basically the only rom that flashed was the engineering rom for the Omnia.
Now the phone boots (with a Omnia splash screen ) I can get it to download mode I can even use the phone just none of the buttons work! I really just want to get a Samsung focus rom back on don't care if it's not Mango at the moment.
My questions:
1. Anyone got an engineering rom for the focus seems to be the only Roms that can load on my device
2. Anyone got some advise to get it back to a Samsung focus rom?
I know I shouldn't have but it's done and can't cry over spilt milk.....
I would really appreciate the help.
What OS version did you have before and what revision of the phone is it?
Thank you for your reply I appreciate it!
If I used the diagnostic menu to check the Revision it said HW:1.0 which is weird as I thought there was only HW1.3 and HW1.4...
Is there any other way I can check to confirm for you?
I had Mango RTM on it the internal MS one that was leaked to the net. It was mango but the Firmware and Radio stacks where accent! That's why I was trying to flash the bugger.
Any idea?
If I look at the sticker behind the battery it says:
REV1.3
The Diag menu also allows one to check the HW and SW version from the Diag menu it said HW = RV1.0 The sticker on the phone says REV1.3'
Would you like a picture of the sticker?
Why in the name would you flash an entire rom ( bootloader, CSC?)
What's the Omnia7 Rom that you flashed?> details, link?
If you flashed the bootloader from Omnia it could mean a lot problems... because it screws the values for the buttons, and I mean it, you'll no longer have VOL-/+...
Thy to get a Samsung jig to see of you can put it in download mode

Hi all,
I recently bought a samsung focus through ebay but the phone was stuck in demo mode and I wanted to get rid of the demo.
What I have done is: I flashed the phone with the XENJK1 rom for omnia 7.
now the phone works perfect except these problems:
"down" volume button increases the volume instead of decreasing it.
"up" volume button does not do anything at all.
back button sometimes does not work
start button is not working at all
the accelerometer orientation of the screen is opposite than it should be!
any one got any idea how to fix these?! please!

Try to keep pressed the Vol- and power to see if it comes to download mode...otherwise use the 300k ohms JIG...

No need. I think I got the picture.
Let me guess: you bought the phone on eBay or similar?
I think the previous owner hacked and forced the bootloader of the engineering rom that was previously leaked before the 7004 roms on the phone. The problem is, once there I don't know how you can go back to the original bootloader. I suggest you post this in the general WP7 forum and someone (like ansar) might be able to help you.
I know I was stupid!
I can get it into download mode easily no problem. The problem I have is even when in download mode and I use:
WP7 Downloader 7.05, 7.21 and the one I used to flash 7.41 I still get the error (with the normal UJK2 or even the Rogers ROM's)
"The Device does NOT match with the selected binary"
I have tried the "Phone" alone the "Phone Boot" alone both together and even ESC, PDA etc together and alone (basically every option and combination) with the same error message every time "The Device does NOT match the selected binary"
This is true for each of the WP7 Downloaders (so its not a WP7 Downloader issue).
When the phone had Mango (used the update to mango with the leaked MS internal RTM bits) and I tried to get it back to 7004 with WP7 Downloader and UJK2 or Rogers I would get the EXACT same error.
I am not sure what it's doing, maybe I need to find a Focus engineering flash for the device?
The only flash that worked was the engineering flash for the Omnia.

It's not porper download mode then... or your device is an engineering sample
WP7_Downloader_Ver_7.05_for_Retail_Device_(Product_Force_Select_MD5_X).exe should flash regardless of the phone id...
What do you see if you go to settings>about>more info?
Ok so tried 7.05 and get a error of: "This Device is NOT a retail device" - HUH?????
How can it not be a retail device I have been using it for ages and even updated it to Mango...

These values are AFTER you flashed the engineering ROM from Omnia?
Yes sir! this is what I am getting now when I boot my Samsung Confusion (Focus\Omnia) Settings>about>more info
Is it developer unlocked ?
It is very strange that you got an unsigned FW to flash on your device but you can't a signed one , that really tells me that you're holding an developer device.
The way I see it :
1.Do you have a ZUNE backup? try to restore from it.
2.Try to download AGAIN the ROMS ( ATT& ROGERS), try to run the WP& downloader 7.05 on ADMIN mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14875358&postcount=1
3.Try to EMAIL Samsung and ask them what's up with the device, tell them you used ZUNE update and have them check your IMEI.
From the values you posted, the radio HW is missing the version, the bootloader is newer,....
Yup well it was DEV unlocked when I had it as a focus and Mango, I own a Dev account
Yup signed ones it's saying NO - Is there NO unsigned FOCUS rom I can get onto this monkey phone?
I will try redownload the ROM's
I am running WP7 in Admin mode and even in Windows XP SP3 mode ....
I do have a Zune backup but will it pick my phone up as a Omnia or the same Focus?

The backup will restore to the stat when you made the backup. I suppose that was a correct Focus rom.
2424.11.8.2 >> this version tells me you're on Focus you might get lucky with the backup....
On the other hand, what's NOT working when you're running the Omnia7 Rom?
The 7.05 should FORCE the flashing no matter what...unless you have a diff NAND layout than the other Focuses ( this is why so many bricked Omnias), it's the only check that could spit the binary error, it this case you're pretty hopeless...you need to get an pit file and only God knows where you could get it from...
I am new to Windows Phone and require help flashing a custom rom onto my phone. I have dev-unlock but only being able to sideload 3 apps at a time just isn't enough for me.
I've read through a few threads and they've only confused me more, If someone could help me I'd appreciate it.
I have a: HTC7 Trophy T8686
PC40100
OS: 7.10.8170.79
Firmware revision num: 2250.21.51201.401
Radio software: 5.69.09.05.a_22.50.50.21U
Radio hardware: A.102.0.D4
Bootloader: 5.12.2250.1(134578)
You need to install HSPL. Go to this thread and find "Last version (R#3)" and click that to download version 3 (it isn't underlined because of XDA's weird style sheet). Even though version 2 and 1 will work on your "Spark" Trophy (you have the GSM Trophy, its codename is Spark. Verzion CDMA is codenamed Spark_W), version 3 has protections to stop OEM drivers for reflashing the bootloader [which breaks things].
To install it, you first need to downgrade your "SPL", the version number is listed as "Bootloader" from 5.12, to 5.10.
Using the SLSPL from from ansar, you should be able to do this...... however, it depends on the branding of your phone. This SLSPL is designed for an unbranded Euro Trophy, so you may need to either: a) Unbrand your Trophy, b) Find a stock rom from your carrier with a lower SPL version.
Without the 5.10 SPL, you cannot install the HSPL software that will let you flash custom roms.
I have write guides on what to do for Spark_W, but have no GSM Spark hardware to work with to write a similar guide.
I highly recommend backing up your phone before attempting any of these things.. since you might end up clearing your data.
Thanks for the info. My phone is unbranded so I'm able to use the SLSPL method by ansar you mentioned. However I'm not sure where to find a Stock ROM that is required for step 3, could point me in the right direction?
Oh awesome, you can skip the stock rom step. Download version 3 of DFT's HSPL now and run it...
Put your phone into bootloader mode and run DFT_RSPL_WP7FG3_LAUNCH.exe, choose the version number that matchs with the displayed SPL version, then wait while RSPL is loaded. This is temporary and is the first step to install the hard coded HSPL. After you see RSPL displayed on your screen, run DFT_HSPL_WP7FG3_INSTALL.exe.. and you be HSPLed and ready for custom roms!
Put the phone in bootloader mode one more time to make sure HSPL is displayed, and if it is, go ahead and flash whatever custom rom your heart desires for your Spark!
Hi guys, I was wondering if somebody could help me.
I just bought a Trophy and wish to install a custom rom.
My device details are:
OS Version: 7.10.7720.68
Bootloader: 4.6.2250.0
I am confused as to what I need to do, should I go ahead and run this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
Do i need to downgrade anything in order to install the freedom rom? My bootload is lower then the original poster so I am not sure whether that makes a difference.
I am quite new to Windows Phone 7
Thanks,
-c
Hello. Please help me to flash the ROM and downgrade SPL. I'm trying do it with Y cable and gold card tools but no succses. When I make a gold card with micro SD card and card reader the phone dont start updating, but when I try to do it with USB key, Im getting this message loading and later "Not allow". Please help me to unlock this device. My phone:
OS version: 7.10.8107.79

OK I got it worked now ! I'm flashed it with 2Gb USB flash. All what I need is to insert SPARIMG.nbh and goldcard.img and that's it. But where is no step in tutorial to copy goldcard.img to USB flash. Whatever !

This is the recommended "Noob" guide to GoldCard. It shows you how to build a GoldCard by buying parts, where as the old method required you to cut and splice a cable together.
You need a GoldCard to downgrade your bootloader to from pre 5.xx series bootloaders, in order to install HSPL, which then will allow you to flash custom roms.
This method is required for Spark (GSM Trophy models), but if have SparkW (CDMA Verizon Wireless Trophy) you can follow my guide without the need for GoldCard (SparkW can use GoldCard, but its only really necessary for restoring a half-bricked bootloader).
Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me.
bought a used htc spark over the bay.
It says in the beginning german or English,
but when i choose German i can't read the text it's somehow messed up.
Also i can't use Marketplace.(it's in your country not available)
If i try to update it trough Zune it says my Phone is up to date Version 7.0 6341
tried to flash it with goldcart method ( did that with htc Mozart already) different roms but it always says get newer nbf file.
This Phone should be from UK.
If i try with bootloader it shows blue stripes on bootscreen and says no image file, doesn't matter which rom i tried.

Thanks...
English HTC
I also bought such a Phone over Ebay with the same SW Version, a fully crashed Phone !
I found out that the Phone is a HTC "Test Device" with a special Debug Software on Board.
I talk to someone in the Vodafone Service Center UK. There is a special hardware inside, the only way to change is by programming the build in Chip by special Programmer.
Is there a branded nr. on the Housing ? begining with E20xxx ?

Latest Update:
I was sending it to a Programmer. Riff & Jtag didnt't worked.
The Trophy had a 2kb Chip instead of 4 or 8 kb. Even HTC or the official store for flashing the Chip doesn't had a solution.
Anyone before tried to flash some stuff on there an messed it really bad
Thanks to all....
I bought this phone three months ago knowing WP8 was coming out soon. :crying:
I see the XevRev for Spark_W stuff, radio collecctions, tons of custom rom stuff, and etc, but I'm at the point where I'm utterly confused at what it what.
I guess I'm asking where I should start?
Here is what I think might be relevant:

HW Rev: 0003
Radio SW Ver: 1.43.00.06.14_23.17w.05.13U

Well, dev unlock is really unnecessary if you plan on installing an HSPL and flashing a custom rom. Then again, your OS version of 8773.98 suggest that you are running DFT or ansar's rom, but didn't install HSPL (only RSPL to flash the rom). Even with the official rom, your OS level should be 8779.8 after updating via Zune.
First, if you REALLY want to unlock the power of this phone, install HSPL using my HSPL guide for SparkW. It explains every step in detail so you can be ready to flash a custom rom.
Second, give my SparkW rom XevRev a shot for a great Tango experience. Just flash the rom, then update via Zune after setting up the phone to get the newest radio installed. It has FullUnlock and Root Tools, and is the only rom currently around that allows for the phone to be fully programmed using *228 (older roms have an older Xap Deployer package that didn't allow the programing tools to be installed).
You can ignore the radio thread and the "stock like" threads because the contents of those are now outdated with my rom being out.
Get 10+ post under your belt and you can reply to dev forum topics. I'm working on a 7.8 rom, but I won't be able to test it until my third Spark_W comes tomorrow and I transplant a digitizer into it. Maybe since I'm taking it apart I'll also upgrade the SD Card on that one too? (I don't want to flash my primary phone since it's too much of a pain to get reinstalled when I need it for an alarm clock.
Before you flash another rom though, I want to ask you a few things. Do you have Unlimited data via Verizon, and if not, what plan do you have? Also, is tethering working for you NOW before flashing my rom simply by doing the dun nai change? The dun nai change should only be necessary for Unlimited data users.
I'm using factory updates. All I know is that I have my phone updated as far as I can through Zune.
We just switched from AT&T to Verizon, due to the lack of any signal across the entire house. When we went into the store they had to have their manager bring the phone all the way from Kentucky. Anyways, they had just started to push the share everything plan, but the reps acted like they weren't comfortable with those plans yet. I have a 2gb a month, but I called verizon and they disabled the DUN for my phone (as I didn't want charged one of the wifi access fees) When I enabled the wifi after I called them I got a webpage showing I could re-enable it for the $30.
I tried to do the Interop_Unlock but that seemed to not work. But I might as well wait for your 7.8 then.

Yeah, Interop is a pain to do unless you are running Mango v1. You could factory downgrade to do it.. but its really a big pain.
I'm aiming to have 7.8 and international language roms out by Sunday, work is guna make it difficult. Are you able to use tethering with the dun nai changed though? I'm curious because other users with metered data plans were still having issues.
If you can't use tethering even with the dun nai changed, try deploying JerryJiang's Tethering unlocker for Verizon Trophy. If you still can't tether, I think I know a final adjustment that may need to be made, and you could be a helpful test subject since JerryJiang sent me his apps source code. After I get the details sorted, I can apply the fix directly into my rom without a need for an app (and create a rom package for others to cook into their roms).

Tethering works with the internet sharing in settings. I have no issues what so ever.
I'll beta test if needed. (If it says anything im running win8x86 rtm kinda as my main os)
EDIT
Just saw how big RUU_Spark_W_S_VERIZON_WWE_2.04.605.02_Radio_NV_021 5_NV58008_RELEASE is. I have hughesnet and a 500mb daily cap. I'll have to wait till I'm at my grandparents(I'm 19) where dsl is king tomorrow. lol

That is the rom for flashing back to stock. You'll need the older rom in the HSPL thread to downgrade the bootloader. Get both roms and back them up if bandwidth is a problem.
So, I finally got to download the RUU_Spark_W_VERIZON_WWE_1.03.605.22_RS0512_2K_4K_hybrid_new_partition_RELEASE and I got it to flash the phone, but now when I try to flash using [ROM_SPARKW][TheXev]XevRev_Beta1a_8835 the phone gets stuck at 0%. I can follow the instructions shown on the program, but it seems to get stuck at the same place.
I can just unplug the phone and turn it back on and i can get calls in the meantime, but it seems I can't proceed.
I tried the dft rom aswell, but it shows the following:
Code:
[Error Description]:
Invalid ModelID. This means that your phone not supported.
This installer supports only limited number of the phones.
SPARK, MOZART, MONDRIAN, GOLD, SCHUBERT.
If you have phone from this list, but still have this error, please contact with DFT team.
[Info]: USBWorkRSPL.cpp (235)
[Error Description]:
ModelID is 'PC402000'. Please report this info to DFT.

You need to install HSPL before you can flash a custom rom. After downgrading the bootloader to 1.3, you can then install HSPL. Follow my guide here for complete instructions, step by step.
GOT IT!

I finally got it to work! Thanks for the help. I had to find the DFT_XSPL_WP7FG3 that I had downloaded a month ago. The DFT HSPL thread didn't seem to have the file anymore.... When I found that rar, it worked perfectly; I'm now running your 7.8 rom!
I'm still unsure how the WM Device Center actually works, but I'll have to take that up with ultrashot. It seems to work intermittently, I can browse all the files on the phone with the pc that I first set it up with, but all it seems to do on my other pc is just show "error" instead of "not connected."
Its probably because I was trying to do all this on Win8x86.

That did the trick. Been using it for a while now. THe only issues I've had has been with GPSKit Tether. MS Streets and Trips doesn't think that the data is NMEA 2.0 compatable, I can open terminal on the port being used, and it shows data. The only thing I would like to see in your build is the updated start icons. Also I can't seem to get the Nokia Counters installed. I got the files to copy from my ringtones to \Windows, but can't seem to get the provxml file to execute.
