So my wife and I got the 10.1 as a early Xmas gift. I am still on stock (and will likely keep my wifes unrooted). Here is my question...
On my Android phone, I can add folders to the desktop, and put icons in that folder. Is there no way to do that with the tab?
Folder Organizer and other similar apps.
I have a related question. When I imported my favorites from a Window's PC, all the folders disappeared. Is there a way to organize bookmarks in folders on a Tab 10.1?
@dsafety
I am not sure about importing them from a PC via USB. But if you use Chrome on your PC you can sync your bookmarks with the Android browser. Firefox also has this same functionality but you would have to use Firefox on the tablet as well. I was a Firefox die hard for a long time but I have switched to Chrome on PC. If you don't have it on your PC, you should try it. On install it, I believe it will ask you to import your favorites from IE.
Two solutions in one neat and tidy package: ADW ex launcher
Solution 1. Launcher natively integrates folders on your desktop.
Solution 2. Resolves a lot of the lag issues people have with stock TouchWiz launcher without having to root or flash custom FW.
You're welcome!

Hi,
one of the most important features for me (which makes me want to buy Honeycmob tablet) is browser.
As far as I know browser in Xoom is sort of a mobile version of Chrome.
So, my questions are:
- how close are they in reality?
- what can be synced?
- what can not be synced?
- what about extensions I use in my desktop chrome (one of them is freshstart to save open tabs! excellent)
- can I have my bookmarks bar in Honeycomb (I use it a lot)
I use three different PC's every single day and I work with browser a lot. All this makes Chrome so much pleasure to use... because I can finish work at one machine and easily continue (exactly where I was) on another machine few minutes later. I was hoping that tablet with Honecomb will fit right in
Will it?
Currently it only syncs bookmarks. All of your bookmarks sync just fine, folder structure is preserved. The only difference is that Bookmarks Bar shows up as the root folder with Other Folders as a subfolder in that. There is not a bookmarks bar, per se, but you can set your homepage to a Chrome-inspired "Most Visited" page which holds 12 pages (unfortunately you can't customize them, they are always your 12 most visited pages).
Chrome-to-phone still works on the Xoom, so you can always send pages from Chrome to the tablet, but you don't get any sort of tab syncing or extensions.
Is there any way to make web sites think it is chrome browser? Once the Flash is on the system it should be able to play all free videos as any other "desktop" browser.
I thought I read somewhere that phones with Android and Flash can do it.
Playon is not a solution. At home I can watch hulu on my desktop/netbook - the whole idea was to access it when I am not at home

Just like on phones, you can set it to use a desktop user agent. But for sites that check the flash version, you'll need to hex edit the plugin (there are other threads about that here if you look around)
At this stage I just need to know if it is doable - there is other thread about it... and I have been told -NO WAY (to do it) -either Hulu Plus or nothing :-(
Is there any way to sort bookmarks differently in browser?

No, not that I've ever found
Pretty mush the only two things In android that I've complined about since day one.
A) why can't we do bookmark folders? I'm pretty sure that the bookmarks are stored in XML format, so it just takes someone with know how to do it.
B) iPhone does this by default because it doesn't multitask, I want Android to "freeze" the currently open pages or at lease keep record of what was open last like all modern desktop browsers do. I hate having to go and re-open the three browser windows I had open, after a reboot.
So the Fire is going to an older gentleman who really knows very little about techie crap. He can find his way around a computer OK, but he's not big on the technical details. We chose KF for a single major reason: The icons are huge, so they'll be easy for him to find and jab.
Here's what I expect he'll do:
1. Watch videos while he's out at car shows
2. Maybe listen to some music
3. Possibly read car magazine subscriptions
So I'd like to leave the software as stock as possible, but I'd also like to know:
1. What's the easiest software package to get ripped video onto the fire?
2. Does the Fire have its own sync software or is there something else I should put on his PC to use?
3. OK, I lied, there is no 3, but if you have a suggestion, I'll take it here
Thanks!!
I do this quite often for people on their desktops and laptops..
I create folders (Using GO launcher) appropriate for what they are using: folders called 'video', 'music', 'magazines', etc and dump their programs in each..
As for the others:
1. Dunno, I just use a stock file manager, its pretty simple cut and paste stuff.
2. I have not the slightest clue, sorry.
3. Personally, I like GO Launcher over the standard carousel but with the carousel he can still add favorites.
Best,
Chris
You might want to look a buying DoubleTwist with AirSync. Makes media syncing very easy.

Install a custom launcher from the market Then you should be able to better organize things.
I use folder organizer and desktop visualiser. Great combo that works for me. I like everything packed up in folders to keep my home screen emptyish.
thank you very much
ICS with the stock launcher does folders. Just drag one icon on top of another.
However, I still like Folder Orginazer.
i use application folders pro. i like the interface on creating icons with pop up list of of apps . you have to try it to understand. It does work really great and keeps clutter off the home screen.
I got it on amazon for free. app of the day long ago. IT Actually is AWESOME ON MY 2.3.6 ANDROID Phone. smaller screen.
just like the ipad
Just like the iPad. Drag one icon and drop over another. When you open the folder you can name it. I don't see the need to download an app just for that.
It's been a long while since I've played with the Nook. Can you update me. Last I looked I had on the todo list:
1) a lightweight email client that only runs when you ask it - is k9mail good enough nowadays?
2) a filemanager. Astro didn't display the filenames in portrait for me last time I checked.
3) Is there any less animated apps that have been found now - like an non animated launcher?
4) got any wallpapers that play nice eink and fit perfectly?
5) what would be a nice way to share files to and from the nook? I remember something for windows that goes via adb allowing a gui to directory browse. needs to be completely lightweight so scp, ftp, dropbox sound like either battery wasting or inconvienient to start and then stop after use. what's your preferred way other than eject the sdcard, samba?

1) I use k9mail and kill it whenever it bothers me using TaskXP
2) 'Es File Exlorer' or 'Rhytm file manager'
3) ReLaunch
https://github.com/yiselieren/ReLaunch/downloads
4) There is a whole thread devoted to wallpapers. Look it up.
5) Don't know about that. I use ADB 'push' and 'pull'
ReLaunch is exactly what we all needed - thanks for letting me know!
