So I've recently rooted my phone (Galaxy S2) to run Cyanogen 7 Nightly 116. Everything went fine apart from I am unable to use my SIM. I've gone through Setting>Location & Security setings> SIM card lock> Set up SIM card lock. Now at the settings I find the box "Lock SIM card" has been ticked and is asking for the PIN even though I didn't lock it. I have tried all the default codes like 0000, 1111, 4321 and the last four digits from my number ect but nothing works. But its not even come up asking for a PUK code even though I might have entered the PIN wrong more than 3 times.
The phone is on contract with 02. Will asking for 02 for a code help? Even though it doesn't even ask for a PUK code? I've also tried using a SIM from a different carrier but the problem persists. The WiFi works fine, its just the SIM is some how locked. I ave also looked into the app by Chainfire but that didn't work just came back with 00000000. However it did come back with an unfreeze code but it tried using that as the PIN but it didnt work.
If you cant tell I'm new to rooting, I've spent the last 5 days trying to fix this with no avail.
I have also tried builds 115 and 114 and it is the same.
Thank you for any help in advance.
There's a thread already for CM7 Q&A: [NIGHTLY][ROM][GWK74] CyanogenMod 7 (w/ Gingerbread 2.3.7) for Galaxy SII Q&A.
Thank you. I'll try there then.

OK.BEEN USING CM7 STABLE FOR A WHILE NOW BUT NEVER SET UP SIM LOCK.TODAY I DECIDED TO ADD SECURITY BY SETTING UP SIM LOCK.........TICKED THE BOX THEN ENTERED A PIN AND WTF !!!!!!!!!! MY SIM IS NOW PUK LOCKED. (NOT BLOCKED) NEED A NEW SIM THANK YOU VERY MUCH. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD WARN PEOPLE JUST IN CASE ITS A GLOBAL BUG.
Read the thread !!!!
its LOCKED not blocked. blocked is when you can enter a code locked is what happens when you attempt too many unlock tries.my network carrier has told me i need a new sim. Now my point was that i didnt even get 1 attempt at entering any code, it just went straight into puk LOCKED when setting up a simcard pin. i was mearly just warning people in case its a bug. to anyone else thanks anyway but its sorted now.regards slymobi.
cleaned the thread to only contain the main info intended by the OP.. i guess there was a misinterpretation of what the OP was trying to get across but please do avoid situations that lead to abusing..

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 lte that was locked to three Ireland, I unlocked it using the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683.
I put my meteor ireland sim card in the phone and it was not recognised, no pin request, nothing. I put my wife's meteor sim card in and it worked no problem, i put another meteor sim in and it worked no problem, both times asking for pin number.
I put my meteor sim in another phone and it worked no problem, even asking for a pin number.
I went to the meteor shop and exchanged my sim card in the hope it was the card and not the phone. I put the new sim card into the phone and it asked for a pin number but would not work, it worked in three different phones but not my phone and three different meteor sims worked in my phone no problem.
I tried different roms both times, stock-cyanogen-others, none worked with mine and all worked with the other sims, so I guess the phone is unlocked.
Am I missing something, maybe in *#0011# settings that my number is locked out of the phone even though it worked on Three Ireland.
I hope someone can help me.

You need to downgrade your modem. Read the last pages of that thread. There is all you need.
Possible try the setting in the hidden menu. I have the E300K I put a different Sim card and it would not register. I went into the hidden menus and changed some of the settings and forced it to read the card and change carriers. I can't tell you exactly what they were I don't have the phone in front of me right now, I'm at work.....if you use *#0011#, you will need to hit back, then key enter, type Q0 and enter or Q000 and enter, wait about 10 seconds or so it will put you in the hidden menu, or you could type the main code and password. Not sure what it would be for your phone.
@2ndcarpenter: Misread the post? The OP had already tried the service menu unlock and found it didn't work. The reason? He didn't downgrade his modem, as mentioned about a half dozen times by me in that thread.
Hi,
Thanks for the replies, but I guess you did misread the post.
I done the guide, which I couldn't have done if I didn't have an older modem.
The unlock actually works with the other meteor sims, just not with my meteor sim, and the sim definitely works in other phones. The pin request I was talking about was the 4 digit sim security one, not the network unlock pin.
So I am still at a loss as to what is wrong.
We all likely misread your post. Now that you explained things however, it's become much more clear. Did you use the service menu method to unlock the S4, or did you use RegionLock Away? The possibility exists that the service menu method may have triggered the SIM pin. If that is the case, then you need to go back into the service menu and set Perso SHA 256 to its original setting. From there, root and run RegionLock Away. If you ran RegionLock Away and it did this, you may be stuck. RegionLock Away's ability to completely unlock the phone is an unintended side effect of its real function, which is to remove Samsung's regional lock list. Chainfire doesn't provide support for the unintended side effect.
Hi,
I used the service menu method to unlock, I will try regionlockaway and see if that maybe will make a difference.
I am already rooted on lollipop but do you think I should downgrade modem again and then run regionlockaway.
Thanks.
Downgrading is required for either unlock method to work.

Did I misread the post? No, I saw a link which I did not check, and I saw that he 'tried' *#0011#, but I didn't see that he was able to get to the hidden menu. *#0011# does not get you to the hidden menu, it gets you to a debug screen. But I'm sure an expert like yourself already knows that. So without a better explanation I wasn't sure exactly what he tried. I am only trying to offer advice to someone on a device that I don't even use anymore. I still own it and test various firmwares and kernels, but do not use for my daily driver. But between work and my CCNA certification class, I have very little time, so I will stick to what is more important.......me and my education.
Hi,
I have a Defy MB525 on T-Mobile running CM 7.2. The phone is getting old and has some hardware problems, so I bought a more gently used one on eBay. I've rooted the new one and successfully installed Bootmenu, 2ndInit, and CM 7.2, but when put my SIM card in it, it wants an unlock code. I tried the soft unlock method discussed here, but no success. I then tried the troubleshooting recommendation involving airplane mode and terminal emulator, but that didn't work either. I then got the idea to backup my "old" phone and restore it to the "new" one, and that went smoothly, *BUT* while I no longer get prompted for a SIM unlock code, there is an "x" next to the service bars and the phone indicates "no service." Both old and new phones have EPU93_U_00.59.01 baseband, old phone does get service, while new one does not. I'd love to hear any advice people may have. Oh, new phone was on Moviestar service . . . sorry for the stupid question, but when I've been prompted for a SIM unlock code is it Movistar's unlock code that I'm being prompted for or is it T-Mobile's? I assume that SIM unlock code is associated with the phone and not the particular SIM card itself--is that right?
Thanks,
Doug
I guess what you need to do is install Baseband switcher 4.1 or 4.0 and configure it so it grabs the correct baseband
This is going to be embarrasing story.
I bought new Nexus 6p, and it required Nano Sim card. Being genious me, i've decided to cut my old card and insert it in the sim tray.
It did not work and asked me for sim card's PIN code (which i never set up). Figuring i must have simply broken the card, i decided to boot the phone without any card inside.
Now, when i start the phone, i get the same lockscreen right after Android Logo.
I have tried factory reset, and inserting brand new nano card from different carrier, but none of those it did work.
Using the emergency call dialler I tried entering PUK code *05PUKnewPIN*newPIN# and i recieve "Connection problem or invalid mmi code" error, with or without nano sim card.
Most of the fixes for MMI error are assuming that user can successfuly launch the phone as well.
I have yet to try putting "," or "+" somewhere in the USSD code, this is supposed to "ignore any error messages and perform the code" but i am slightly pessimistic about this.
I thought that maybe the pins were damaged, but they all seem to be allright.
I am a bit conflicted about flashing the image, since i am not sure if unlocking and locking bootloader for flashing will impact my warranty?
I have tried already flashing 6.0.1 stock on top of the stock 6.0.0 the phone came with, but I was still unsuccessful, since i did not enable USB Debugging on the phone and when performing flash-all command in ADB fails due to locked bootloader (that can be unlocked from the settings).
Tried fastboot flash unlock (since fastboot oem unlock did not work at all) as well but it did not work for me.
Based on this, those are the possibilites i consider:
*Try to get MMI error code fixed
*Flash the stock android once i get around locked bootloader
*check the SIM card slot for any dents on pins
*contact carrier and check if maybe it was somehow locked on their side
*Return the phone on warranty and hope that it will be accepted (i expect major hurdles along the way, since the phone was imported to Poland), this would imply that i should not interfere in hardware and software.
I feel that if i get one of mentioned above issues, rest of them should be a walk in the park.
I am really looking for feedback from you guys, since i seem to be unable to deal with on my own.
EDIT: Solved! Found an official google nexus helpline (support.google.com/store/answer/6301411?hl=en) from there someone contacted me and i was given directions on how to solve this issue. If someone finds this thread i needed to do another factory reset
Hi all long time user of the site but never been registered as never run into issues such as this below.
Recently family member took out sim of their locked three IE phone and tried to put another sim in into samsung j3 2016 sm-320FN model, one thing lead to another got message promoting for pin, even when original sim was put back in which never had pin lock on it and tried different pins which propably triggered some sort of lock on the phone but original sim works fine in any other unlocked phone.
When i took hold of phone i tried to root it and got hit with frp lock, eventually untied it from google account and managed to get lineage room onto it v14- no backup was made of original firmware my naive thinking on this part .
i used odin v3 with twrp 3 wiped cache david data and systems before hand. got it rooted with SUroot, and after then installed latest twrp to get other rooms onto phone.
Now strangest issue is that original sim works fine on any other unlocked phone but putting it into J3 i get hit with network unlock code PUK, at first tried support from three Ireland they thought it was sim blocked after numerous different codes it would return same message network unlock failed, eventually got hold of network unlock code, but entering it in lineage room OS it would say network unlock was successful but there would be no bars on sim, checking reception and signal it would show as none towers discovered and no signal received, following that every time phone is reboot it still promts for same code, figured it might caused issue with current room and downgraded to lineage v13 but still wouldnt see any reception the signal bar appears grey, final conclusion was maybe wrong unlock code was sent so requested another one which came back same as previous from mobile provider. And all repeats if entering code says unlock is successful but no mobile signal detected, tried 3 different roms and always keep getting greyd out signal icon and promt to enter puc unlock code.
In the process managed to wipe completely all rooms from the phone and did DBA backup restore via cmd and managed to get different room running on it RR-OS but same happens each time phone powered up inserting any sim including original network sim promts for code, after entering it, says successful and no bars or signal.
phone is only good to use for wifi browsing now, and im out of options to figure out whats the main reason also cant find original firmware.
Spent 2 days flashing rooms and unbricking phone but seems mobile signal and network unlock fails for unknown reasons to me. tried to list every step ive taken and software used.
If anyone has any idea whats causing this would appreciate any help, even thou phone is old by now but still enough for person that uses it.
