I have been trying a number of clock widgets lately, and they all seem to make scrolling between home screens lag a bit. I am currently using Simi widget and cm7 rc1, and when I drag over to the screen that has the widget on it, the dragging motion gets choppy.
I know this is a minoor complaint, given that the overall performance of this phone is stellar, but it still gets to me. Does everybody else get this to a noticeable degree? I can see why some lag is to be expected, but are some widgets better than others?
Hmmm another vague post. Which kernel and what rom? run it at 1017mhz using interactive and you won't have any lag matter of fact I tested it on 368mhz, 768mhz and still no lag in my end set at ondemand.

I mentioned in the post that I am using CM7 RC1, and I am using whichever kernel comes with it. I will try fiddling with setcpu settings to see if I can get an improvement.
I turned on the adw scrolling cache, which most people recommend not doing, but I think it may have made things smoother.

My bad confused you with the other guy who posted in this same section well ATM I manually removed ADW and replaced it with ADW Ex. But I tested it and do remember running it even at 368mhz with no lag. Revert back to the original setting and then use interactive governor beyond 768mhz depending on how intensive your widgets are. You can do it from CPU settings if you don't want to install SetCPU.
I'm using fancy widget for my clock. I don't see any lag between screens with it. I'm also using cpu tuner to set my profile triggers.

anyone notice the launchers aren't as fast on 2.3 as they were on 2.2? i mean on 2.2 launcherpro was super smooth switching screens and opening app drawer. its so slow on 2.3, same with zeam, go launcher ex, etc. i might have to go back to 2.2...............
no problems here...
for LP, try messing with the animation/transition speeds...
ok flashed the latest nightly seems to have fixed my prob, i was running #30 before
On the stock Gingerbread they still lag with anything above 5 screens.
its been posted before that gingerbread is not smooth with different launchers. most say that hopefully an update to the launcher may fix it, i.e. launcher pro updated to work better with 2.3.3.
ADW launcher 5 screens and smooth
I have ADW launcher 5 screens and smooth for me
i flashed yesterday's nightly and my launcher pro is super smooth again now before i was using a pre rc1 nightly and it was laggy
Might have to do with the launchers; when using Go Launcher and having around 8 screens loaded with icons, the phone lagged and stuttered when switching.
Now I use Zeam with 5 and it is silky smooth aand everything is very faster.

Google made some changes in 2D mode, so the app must be updated, or it will got poor performance 2D like launcherpro 0.8.3 does.
But there is a good side: in the benchmark, graphics score increased by 5times.
Also looks like google made 2d refresh rate locked on 30fps.
I also experienced this issue when I was using Zeam, but I recently switched back to LauncherPro and I'm silky smooth again. Like a previous poster mentioned, you are probably going to have to mess around with the transitions and speeds. Im running CM7 RC2.

what do you mean they locked it at 30 FPS? currently on 2.2 the FPS is around 50FPS for most UI elements like screen swiping and transitions. why would they go backwards...
I have the Go Launcher Ex, and I don't see anything slower than in 2.2, it's even faster.
But, the app drawer, in my opinion, is a bit slower than in 2.2

I have noticed that some benchmarks on 2.3.3 gots stable 29fps vs floating 50fps~ on froyo.
UI not so smooth too, i guess they did it to decrease a power consumtion.
But on other side - on nexus S all runs smooth like on froyo, so im not sure if im right
My Desire HD is nearing perfection.
I have flashed Android Revolution HD 5.1.11 without sense and honeycomb theme by he_stheone64. Even without HTC Sense I tried to make my phone even more LEAN by freezing several unwanted and unneeded processes and apps (LEAN is important for me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean_manufacturing)).
I flashed the CRT screen off animation and HTC Trace for swiping.
I bought ADW launcher EX and personalized is with several themes and icons.
My avarage benchmark scores with Quadrant are 2149. With smartbench 1784 - 1531.
Now I'm curious about your phone! What is perfection for you?!
I flashed ARHD too and i just love my DHD now! Perfectly smooth ROM. The only annoying thing is that i have battery drain since i flashed latest version. Applied HSPA+ patch and hope it fixes drain.

I run ARHD 5.1.11 with Sense and also flashed Sense 3.0 all-in-one. Only improvement I would like is a built-in volume improvement. For now I use Volume+ which works fine. I am sure we will be amazed when 5.1.12 appears with the improvements that makes.
I am not seeing any battery drain problems with 5.1.11 and can only think it is down to each individuals customized setup beyond the base ARDH ROM.

Ok, ok you win.... My DHD is running at 1.22 Ghz, yours probably way above that.
But what matter to me also is my DHD is very smooth and with normal use I can streych it to 3 days. Normal use includes around 3 maybe 4 hours of listening to music each day, update mail several times a day calling and sms/what's app.
hello,
I use CM7 Nigthly 115 + LorDMoD UE 5.0
with Go Home
I use these parameters all time : BRAZILIANWAX governor at 230MHz - 1536MHz
In quadrant standard I obtain 3132
With that I have never bugs or freeze, and the battery take 2 days to be empty
I tested in Performance Mode at 1843-1843 ah have just 2821
Scores do not mean anything, we once made a ROM that could reach 3900 points in quadrant, but was quite laggy in daily use. Do not look at benchmarks, but overall system smoothness. If you like a ROM, then keep it

I fully agree with you. If your ROM is as smooth as a hot through butter then the benchmarks don't matter.
Optimization is the key.

hey guyz.i,ve been using Arconium ICS and i noticed Phone app and setting open terribly slow.so here is what i did to get them smoother.
just go to setting ,developer options and choose at most 2 processes from background procces limit bar.don,t choose don,t keep activities cause it will kill launcher every time.try and see for your selves.hope this helps
anybody else tried this?
use my touchscreen, responsiveness and battery tweaks from the android development subforum for xperia arc. i have been read the last post about the governor and the rampling too. i've been ggetting over 18 hours on an average already. (those tweaks were for the ics beta, i bet i can tweak it more).
I am having problems with some games like Backstab and real racing 2..they crash when they load..I think it's a matter of a driver issue and not related to RAM availability..

games use a lot of ram. getting out of ram can cause FCs. (try reducing your vm heap to 20 and see what it does to the other apps )
Thanks for sharing bro, it just help to improve responsiveness a little bit. It's really annoying that when u tap the dialer and few seconds later it appear...lol
are u kerenl is doom v4?
orgain kerenl is slow
Guys, just supercharge your phone. Details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533044
It's working great for me on stock ICS and just wanted to share.
After you supercharge the dialer & sms apps only lag the "first" time you open them after a reboot. After that they open pretty much instantaneously (unless you run a massive app which uses all the phones memory) in which case it will lag the first time after closing the massive app.
You can bullet proof apps of your choice including dialer, sms, launcher etc.
For me the overall smoothness of ICS is noticable.

This is definitely the way to go! Don't go crazy and bulletproof everything or else you'll end up with the same problem but definitely do the basics and you'll notice a difference for sure, without having to drop down to 2 background processes.

can u help me a little further??I don't know how to achieve that..thanks in advance friend
Hey,
maybe it is a lil bit silly question but I have to ask:
Is the I9000 able to run Temple Run real smooth? It runs stuttery on my Device with Semaphore + Slim ICS on default Settings but even though on OC Settings too.
The thing is: On my SO's iPhone 3GS it runs without any problems? So is it maybe a ROM Issue or is the I9000 Gaming Perfomance really worse the 3gs performance?
Thanks
rest0ck
Mine runs perfectly with CM9 nightly and with semaphore... Try changing governor to like...smartass?
Sent from a phone made for the gods
Runs fine for me
Runs fine here as well, I'm on SlimICS 4.2 with stock kernel no overclocking.
Try the latest version from the devs site http://www.slimroms.com/
I tried everything. I was on Slim ICS 4.2 with Semaphore 1.2.5 - tried every governor (Performance, Smartass) but still stuttery.
Now I installed another Rom which is CM9 based and ..still stuttery (RemiICS). I don't have installed that much + synchonisation is for most addons disabled. WiFi enabled. Any other app is closed. Sometimes it tuns smooth, sometimes it's not playable, sometimes there a lil bit of lag. I even tried HugeRam enabled :/

Runs fine on ICS333, and it ran fine on elite, with semaphore. Both are very minimalistic aosp roms, I'm not going to say that they definitely perform better that slim or remics, but worth a try?
Using GT-I9000 my sent Tapatalk 2 from.

what rom you are using? im using cm7.2 and it was very laggy.
what kernel should i use? is there a kernel for cm7.2?
You can't compare the gaming performance with the iPhone, because iOS is optimised for apps and games. Apps and games is like the main purpose of iOS.
On android the focus is more for multitasking, media handling etc so the optimisation for games is not as good, even if we have better hardware.
It's just like how even a dual core phone cannot play a NDS game through emulator as smooth as a NDS itself, even though the processor in the NDS is about 100-300MHz.
Hmm, try using a task manager to get rid of the background processes, get rid of bloatware in your phone etc. Hope it helps!

Slim and semaphore, no o/c runs smooth as silk
on 2.3 it laggs like hell
but on ics it is super smooth:good:

This is something I never really thought about. It does make sense
But .. on the other hand. When Multitasking was possible in iOS (or isnt it really possible it just pauses other apps?) it doesnt affect the game performance?

It won't affect game performance in iOS because, iOS does not perform true multitasking. Android does!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
That's true. They say ios has "multitasking"
BUT .This feature is like, when you are browsing on the web, your navigation app is"calculating route".
You see? ios pauses apps which are not set primary by user...
Well if guys now one more thing. From news.

YES
just use CM9 OR AOKP man and it will work smoothly..
on DarkyROM v11 black edition with Semaphore ICS 1.2.5 runs great!!!!!
But why isn't it possible to set a "high priority" or something else so I can focus on the game I play and my browser in the background just ..pauses? Won't that be great? ;/
Btw I tried CM9 but had a few problems (wasnt able to download apps after I set dpi back to 240 and got bootloop after installing Semaphore (correct version)) so I did a complete new installation of Slim ICS with everything wiped, even system.
At the time it is pretty smooth but sometimes but I hadn't the time to really test it (2 games so far) - btw I'm currently using midnight ICS Kernel with Ondemand governor. Was a midnight-gb fan and even thought it is outdated and discontinued I still think it's a really nice kernel. But in case I get rnd reboots or performance issues I'll give Semaphore another try.
