Success :) - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I finally got rooted (i think) I followed the thread to downgrade and then followed: "TRUE PermaRoot and the ULTIMATE S=Off"
My recovery screen looks exactly like the picture in the "TRUE PermaRoot and the ULTIMATE S=Off" attached pictures.
now what? how do i flash roms?

1) Download Clockworkmod App from the market
2) Follow easy to understand on screen instructions

Also, before you do anything else use clockworkmod recovery to make a backup of your system. That way if you screw something up, you can just wipe and install your backup.

PLEASEEEEEE Helpppppp

Ok so I am new to this but I rooteds my phone yesterday on my mac the first time I got an error and re did it and it worked but now when i try to add different roms in the recovery screen I see every option but nandroid back up how come it is not there? Do I really need it to download roms? If so how do I get the nandroid on there?
the screen you see without nandroid, is it a white or black background?
black with blue writing
the recovery screen do you think I should just try to re root it again? If so how do i get the first root off
if it's rooted there is no need to reroot, sounds like you have cwm recovery, there should be a backup option, you won't find the word "nandroid" but that's what it is, if there is no "backup" on that screen can you please list what options are available?
im in clockworkmod recovery v2.6.0.1
and there is an option that says back up and restore which falls under install zip from sdcard
you found them, I've been using RA so long I forgot where in clockwork they are
It seems as if you are seeing the factory recovery. Do you have root? Restart into bootloader, it should say s-off at the top of the screen. If it does, you got root. If it says s-on, no root. If your not rooted run Unrevoked, at the end of the process you should have a proper recovery. If you have root, dl Rom manager from the market and let that app install cw recovery or ra.

But it still doesnt say nandroid is that ok?
@ mis fit i have the icon for super user and am able to tether so im pretty sure it is rooted but I do not see the nandroid option
yes it says s - off i just checked so now once I open a zip file i thought you had to store it in the nandroid file in the sd card but i dont have a nandroid file
in clockwork it doesn't say nandroid, that's okay, make the backup and your fine
ok cool so where do i place the zip file after they are extracted
leave it where it puts it, it can only find it there, you can copy it to your computer just in case your sdcard fails
Ok, got it, using the Rom manager app it says "Backup Current ROM" and not android. Click on that and you're good to go.
If you are entering recovery using power and vol down or a power off app like quickboot, you won't see an option for nandroid right away either, its under backup/restore.
Sorry it took so long to reply. Driving.

Because that is a very "high level" tutorial. The exercise of understanding each step (and sub-step, aka S-OFF is a process itself) is left to you, the reader. Best of luck, though
You can also create/restore nandroid files directly across ADB via fastboot. I do not believe you need to be S-OFF to create them, but you certainly do to restore them.

This made me lulz out loud @ work.
practically you hit the nail on the head. I posted that from my XDA App and didn't realize that was the OPs first post.
The step i posted are exactly how to do the Nandroid Backup, but The steps are very detailed. and you need to take your time and read through them.

[Q] Do I have a brick?

I was running CM7 RC3 fine on my phone, then I decided to switch back to my nandroid backup to stock ( I have done this wil ICed glacier/CM7 RC2/RC1/Royal Ginger etc with no problems). And I have been stuck on the boot splash screen the "Tmobile Mytouch 4g" screen for 20 minutes now without any action... is this a brick? I know I should not worry, but I tried wiping the dalvik cache the acahe and reset to factory setting.... still nothing
How do I go about getting the phone to work?
Thanks
are you running recovery 3.0.0.6? have you tried a battery pull?
Yes, a battery pull was tried, and I am running 3.0.0.5... any help is really appreciated
How do I possibly install 3.0.0.6 now? is it possible?
Thanks
need 3.0.0.6 to run stock or royal glacier. or 2.5.1.2. need to reinstall cm7 and use rom manager to flash recovery. or at least its the eaisest way for me.
follow drews guide and let us know how it goes. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681
unfortunately, I am not being able to go back to royal ginger (its on the toyal ginger splash screen now) I am downloading CM7 RC3 again, but have no way to put it on the sdcard coz I do not have a card reader at this point....... so frustrated.
you can use recovery to mount usb and it will mount the sd card and can tranfer files from computer to card. if you can get to recovery its not bricked. make sure you format boot sys data and cache in mount screen before trying reflash.
Push the cwm 3.0.0.6 recovery image to your phone via adb

Google easy way to get 3.0.0.6 and it should be a zip file u flash in recovery called clockwork_recoveries.zip or something like that. You go into rom manager pick all recoveries and flash 3.0.0.5 and reboot into recovery and it should say 3.0.0.6 now u can flash any rom and restore without getting stuck

Your phone is not bricked. As others have stated, you need to re-flash a gingerbread ROM (like CM7) in order for it to boot.
Best thing to do is install ClockworkMod Recovery version 3.0.0.6 because it can flash both gingerbread and froyo ROMs. You can do this in two ways:
1. Re-flash a Gingerbread ROM. Download TrueBlue_Drew's .zip file from his thread in Development and follow his instructions to be able to flash the included recovery images from ROM Manager.
2. If you have the engineering bootloader (0.85.2007, also some people call it ENG SPL), and if you've set up ADB on your computer, then you can use the fastboot utility to flash recovery images directly to the device. I personally prefer this method. If you can't find instructions to do this, PM me.

[Q] Can i get some help with nandroid backup

figured it out thanks to everyone. None of the guides specifically told me that you needed to root your phone to do a nandroid. I swear the first step and second steps in all guides is NANDROID!!!!! NANDROID!!!!!! Thanks to these guys i got it figured out a couple weeks ago. now i got s=off running cw7 rc4 w/ faux123's kernel. also got custom boot anime and splash screen. once i got that nandroid thing figured out it was easy from there. Thanks again!

I can't figure out how to do a nandroid backup. I'm getting set up to root my phone and got all the apps and what not. I boot into recovery mode on MT4G and goto recovery and than i get a splash screen followed by a picture of the phoner with a red exclamation point on top of it. I can't do anything from that screen. My understanding is that i goto recovery mode and than i have options of restoring a nandroid or making a nandroid. Anything would help very frustrating. thanks.

You have to flash cwm 3.0.0.6 it sounds like u have stock recovery.

Like said above, you can't make a Nandroid backup without a custom recovery installed. That means you can't make a backup until after you're rooted.
Follow one of the many guides to root your phone. After you get it rooted... boot into clockwork recovery and go down to backup/restore. Select backup and let it do its thing.

[Q] clockworkmod

how can i update my clockworkmod have tryed through CWM app which updates it but after reset it goes back to old one have tried wit unrevok wich froz on waiting for root and have tried wit terminal which never worked any othr way.
Download cwm Ingram file, then from your PC use fastboot.executive to flash, or else put image in root of SD and use terminal to flash it. Search the forum you will find both methods. Using rom manager to flash cwm is not permanent method. It just boots into recovery and use the 'update zip like ' file to temporary boot into another recovery. It just make use of cwm files in memory card to boot.
