[Q] Swype downgrade or New version? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well I love GB update but I don't like new swype keyboard came from it.The version of swype is 3.7.85.27287.I dont like it because the SPACE KEY is too small for my finger. When I press space key, most of time (99%) it press Full Stop Key instead of Space Key! This is a mess for me.This is the reason i wanna downgrade swype.I just like Swype keyboard. So I'm not interested of installing another keyboard from market.I love Swype keyboard which was on Stock Froyo.I know that Swype was on Froyo hadn't Voice To Text key/function.But I'm not interested of Voice To Text key/function .So,
1.Can I downgrade Swype keyboard?
2.If I can downgrade, please guide me how to do that.
3.What is the version of Skype is on Stock Froyo?
Or
4.Is there new version of Swype ?(Swype beta is not work with phones which came with pre-installed swype)
I was on Stock Froyo & Now OTA Gingerbread.

Are you perm rooted?
if not you're pretty much stuck with that swype... JK~!
well you can gain temp root via the first steps under "GAINING TEMP ROOT" Here!
Once you got temp root go and uninstall swype with titanium backup or use root explorer to browse to
/systems/app/swype.apk and
/systems/lib/libSwypeCore.3.7.85.27287.so
and delete them!
Now install your swype installer and beta OR use these custom ones! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124639
You can also find the original one in TDJ darkside sense 3.5 near the bottom of the OP.
Hope that helps!

Did you even read what i typed? lol You don't need to be permanently rooted. you can stay on your OTA update and just gain temp root with the link i showed you. Just the top part... i think steps 1-8.

2.2.1

im trying to flash the new 2.2.1 when i get:
Lots of code
Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)
Installation Aborted
Can anyone help?
have you stock recovery? also have you removed any apps from the phone..?
if you do gotta push the back in to system/app
You're on Vodafone UK, and I presume you got the phone from them? If so, their version of FRF91 is not upgradable to FRG83 (at the moment). If you don't want to wait, then installed the FRG33 passimg and it will get an OTA update to FRG83.
its alright, i found that the new 2.2.1 is running on the latest nightlies (Y)

hehe. That explains why I could never get the 2.2.1 OTA to work. I got rid of the damn twitter app and the awful default calculator (RealCalc FTW). Oh well. I'm on CM6 now and aside from lower battery life, I have no regrets.
hi root 2.2.1
please please root android 2.2.1 actuallize androot to works with it im dying without root¡¡¡¡
Use the rageagainstthecage exploit, it's not difficult at all.
Will there ever be one click root for the 2.2.1 update. I had the one click root before the update and unrooted my phone to get the update. After the update obviously the one click root no longer works. Now I'm stuck with an unrooted Nexus One, not enough experience to go out and root it and download the cyanogenmod 6 RC3 download. I want that more then anything. Saw some tapes of it and have to have it. I guess I will have to do some studying on the entire process and go from there. Any help and point in the right direction would help. Thank You

Wait for Paul to update his Superboot (Google it) program. It's almost as easy as 1-click.
Needs an unlocked bootloader though, exactly what one click users don't want.

Swype beta was a trap!

I loved swype, it made everything so much easier. I always used a hacked version on my evo because it wasn't supported on it (now i see they have it with OTA update), so when i heard the beta was reopened again i was ecstatic. I thought "hey I can get an updated legit version of swype!" So i registered and set everything up, but when i get to trying to install it tells me "Your device already has swype through the OTA update!" Since I'm rooted and on a custom rom, I couldn't get the OTA update. So i just said whatever and uninstalled the swype installer and and reloaded my previous hacked swype.
Now when I try to use swype it says "Swype trial is over please download new version". Now mind you, i've been using my version of swype for months without any problems, but when i tried to install from the beta, its now detecting it and blocking from using it.
I went from loving swype to hating it more than anything else on my phone, including FC's

Uh... it's not that big a deal, calm down and get the APK.
It should only fc when you have the wrong version and it's not hard to get a new swype. Just ask the subscribers from my channel lol

Uh flash a new 3.70 rom?
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo.
LOL, When I try to get it through their registration procedure and email link it tells me I am not using an android device.
Rooted Stock 3.29 with no swype installed.

Unless you haven't noticed, 2.4.44 doesn't work anymore on any phone. I noticed it this morning.
I'm in the same boat - I'm running MynWarm and the beta version expired last night around midnight for me. I downloaded the new beta installer and it said that Swype for Evo was included in the latest OTA - doesn't help me at all since I'm not running stock.
Does anyone have (or can they post) the APK that came with the latest OTA? I really need my swype back...
The version of Swype you are trying to install has expired all the hacked versions have an experation date along with the beta versions. You need to get the new APK with a later experation date or go to a rom based on the 3.70.
I found a working Swype for my Unrevoked 3 rooted Evo at Droidappz site.
Works just fine....Thank you. I'm welcome.
Soooo your complaining cause a hacked up version of Swype(warez) is giving you a hard time now that your trying to use the legal version? Maybe you should send that question to Swype and see if they could help you out lol.

I can co-sign on this one. Works perfectly....no problems installing.....good looks.
or he can just uninstall the beta swype like I have and re-flash a 3.70 rom.
I tried deleting the apk from the 3.70 rom itself but it didn't work.. and the beta swype kept force closing. So be gone with you beta swype! The swype with the rom is the same exact thing man

Wow, how amazing the ignorance. First, a billion people complain that they can't get swype cause it's beta only.
Then Swype goes OFFICIALLY live on the Evo, and people start to complain about that.
For one, there are exactly three roms available at the moment that have the OTA update and Swype built in.
For two, don't complain that you can't get it cause you're rooted. There are always going to be pros and cons to rooting or not.
Get over yourself.

LOL, I tried the same thing and recieve the same error. Since I am part of the Beta testers I figured the new one that was released is newer than the one on 3.70 Roms. But since I could not get it to install even after removing it from the system/app dir I gave up and just using the one on the 3.70 rom.
The reason why y'all get taht error is because they are not going intsall the latest version of Swype for you when you have the option to get the latest version through the OTA. Just go back and push the latest version of Swype from the OTA and just wait for the next update.

That's a crappy situation and in this case I'm inclined to say just grab the Swype apk from the latest OTA ROM. You can just download the version posted on this forum, open up the zip and navigate to /system/apps (I think that's it) and grab it.

Updated to 2.2, how do you know if you're still rooted ??

Guys,
Thanks for the help in fixing my camera issues !!
My next question is, am I still rooted once I updated to 2.2 ?? The Market doesnt seem as extensive as it was when I was rooted on 2.1
I am pretty new at all this stuff, how can you tell if your rooted on 2.2, and if I'm not, how can I properly root it again ??

root and Market are not related. You need to change your phone fingerprint to the Nexus 1 to show all the protected applications again as Google does not recognize the DK28 fingerprint.
However, you need to be rooted to edit the file. See the following thread for the fingerprint. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848778

One way to check is to open up a terminal and type "su"
To get root back, use the one click installer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Or flash a Tom to get all the apps. If you want to find out if your rooted just download titanium from the market. As soon as you open it it will say asking for root rights.

ok, here comes the idiot question of the night....
is there any way to root my phone, without having to use a computer to download any files ??
When my friend originally rooted my phone when I was on 2.1, he didnt have to use a computer, he was able to do it right on the phone itself (not sure what he did, tbh)

To tell if you're rooted - install an app like Titanium Backup, which needs root to function properly. If you're not rooted, there won't be access to the market.
For root if you've lost it, your best option may be to install a custom ROM, which are usually pre-rooted. Besides, most custom ROMS are better than what comes stock. Which custom ROM will depend on your needs.

Swype issue after Gingerbread 2.3.3 OTA Update.

Hi there,
after the Gingerbread OTA update from DHD many users have a problem with Swype. Immediately after opening a text box Swype is force closing.
Does anyone here know of a solution or how to install a different keyboard and using it (to enter a password after update)?
android market..

I had this problem. I completely uninstalled swype and the installer. Rebooted my phone, then downloaded swype again off their website and installed.
I'll never update my phone.
I suggest you to downgrade yuor device and to mount a custom rom.

I had the same problem with 1.31 using Swype, Swiftkey and HTC's keyboard. I downgraded to 1.29 and it worked fine. I am now running stock MT4G 2.3.4 rooted and it's running faster than Unity ever did for me and the keyboard is uber-responsive.
You can downgrade Unity from here: http://files.virtuousrom.com/unity/virtuous_unity-v1.29.0.zip
