Why on earth would you want to do that? You have to be kidding - right?
We should be going fowards...
not backwards
believe me you DONT want wm on your hero......
There I was, thinking that I made a giant leap here and not a step backwards hehe. WM, no thanks
As good as windows mobile is, I got the Hero because of Android,
Why don't you just get the HTC Diamond 2, same screen size, smaller form factor, and the option to upgrade to WM 6.5
Would'n it be nice to have the option to switch back and forth from Android to WM?
I'm about to get my Hero in a few days, but just based on curiosity.
I moved back to Htc (Trinity and then HD) after a brief "affair" with an i-phone, I'm curious to seee if HTC got to overcome the MANY i-phone shortcommings.
Sure! new i-phones should be doing better, but the "all-and-only-finger world" of capacitive touchscreens is not ideal for everyone fingers....
Just my opinion.
Regards.
My English is very bad, I´m from Spain, sorry guys.
I like try how work two proccessors in WM 6.5, how plays video DIVX with 192 mb ram, if TOMTOM is quickly... and then, install Android again. And think if Hero´s hardware was built only for Android, or HTC keep a card, for WM 6.5.
Imaginate that Android not success, ¿What will do HTC with the terminals?
It´s only for investigate. no more. Thanks.

Then it would be an HTC problem and being so, it will be quickly solved.
A different issue is when we, users, are left in the dark...... HTC has proved not to be very responsive, nor MS itself, so you better bet Android will live a long life....
I need to put windows 6.5 on my hero to install work programme
this would also help me massively

There you have your first problem, since wm 6.1 is totally NOT finger friendly, the hero does have a captive touchscreen, making it useless with a stylus and thus with wm 6.1.
6.5 should be more finger friendly so that one may work on your hero, If you look at the hardware only the hero is almost the same as the diamond 2 so yes you are able to run 6.5 on your hero. Just wait until someone makes a rom with it.
Nut as you surely have noticed, most of the people buy a hero because the android system. So I don't think someone's gonna make it... soon

Buy a Touch Diamond 2, chances to get an Android ROM for TD2 seems to be higher than a WM ROM for Hero ...

Yes, I do agree with your opinion, it's "common sense", but still, with the kind of processing power we have -literally- in our hands, it should be nice to have "options", as we do have in the "PC world", so as to be able to try more than one OS, while retaining the design and form factor features we all value at purchasing time.
And yes, touch screens experience is so dependant on the interface, that it makes your point as to 6.1 not being suitable for fingers.
Stilll looking for my "perfect" pda-phone ;-)

Hi, I'd like to now, before buiyng Omnia II, if Samsung gives the possibility to update in an official way (maybe through their updates) windows mobile 6.5 to wm 6.5.3 or 6.5.5.
And if there isn't this possibility, to download the unofficial roms from Modaco, obviously i have to be registered, but to register, do i have to pay? Otherwise is there a way to download these roms from xda?
Finally between the Arm1176 800 Mhz of Omnia II and the Snapdragon QSD8250 1Ghz there is a big difference in daily use? theoretically video playback should be the same for standard definition, or not? and windows mobile is almost equally fast for both the processors, or not? where should i see the benefits of Snapdragon?
Thank you very much (and sorry for my bad English)
Bye
Hi,
Samsung didn't announce anything about WinMo 6.5.x upgrades, so I wouldn't bet on it.
Registering at Modaco is free, and the ROMs posted there from Secany are semi-official, some kind of development snapshots from Samsung, and they are getting better and better Maybe Secany will post them here also in the future...
Finally to the difference between the ARM and the snapdragon: With the snapdragon everything will run faster than with the ARM. Especially starting Apps but probably also stuff like viewing pictures. Video playback will mainly depend on the video hardware which has nothing to do with the main processor. As far as the Omnia II is concerned, playback in SD is as smooth as it can get and I didn't notice any significant lags, except for Samsung's own main menu (which you really don't need).
ok, thank you very much WebReaper21 !!!

Nonsense. "Snapdragon" is market name of RISC-architecture CPU with ARM instruction set.
Compare these links, if you have any doubts:

These are some nice links. I was referring to the specific Processors as mentioned in the first post (ARM for the OMNIA 2, Snapdragon as in the HD2, I presume). While both processors may have an ARM instruction set, the Snapdragon has a newer and in most applications faster architecture AFAIK.
Please correct me if I'm wrong there...

I'm not kind of geek to tell you if you're wrong or not The only one think I'm sure is that, Snapdragon is way faster than S3C6410. But don't ask me how it does

WM ROM for Samsung Omnia LITE (GT-B7300)
I'm sorry if this isn't the best spot for this question but I'm doing my best to not clutter up the board with a new thread dedicated to what I'm hoping will be a simple answer.
While in Thailand my girlfriend purchased a Samsung Omnia LITE or GT-B7300, which you can see more of at pdadb.net (search for the GT-B7300, I'd provide a link but as I'm a new account I cannot do that yet. The phone came with a WM 6.5 English and Thai ROM and I'd like to get either...
1. An English and Chinese ROM (preferable so Google Maps works while in Beijing).
2. A way to add on Chinese characters so texts and programs can do simplified Chinese.
I've not see any mention of this phone on XDA; any suggestions on where to get the right ROM or at least have the right character set put on the phone?

I read somewhere (reliable) that someone got an WM6.5.3 update in a Samsung Service Centre, so I believe this version is comming soon
Hi all,
I am planning to upgrdae to WinMo 6.5 through the official update, I have a few questions..
1. Is there a possibility to rollback to 6.1 from 6.5 (without flashing it with custom Roms)
2. Is it faster then 6.1
There are some official 6.1 roms, but you can flash it only with Octans or Octans Mini.
6.5 is a bit slower than 6.1 and has memory leaks.
you don't have to pay to get'em form modaco but it is kinda hard to install them.
There is unofficial service update to win 6.5.3 by Samsung. Version build 23103. This is not public service test update. Don't ask me how i knew that, just believe - wersion 6.5.3 is coming soon.
Is it possible to obtain this update?

In fact, it seems that JD1 ROM is 6.5.3....
Correct, it is.
flashed and using for about a week now and it works great way fast. Using a lite ROM and get 98MB free on fresh boot and 70MB with SPB
The builds starting with 253 were part of the COM3 builds wasn't it?
I wonder how long it'll take verizon to butcher it..
I just can't see flashing this phone until a stock rom is available.
Still looking for other radios too for my community project...

Bravo good question.
Only your English seems
bad.
HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend
The device running Windows Mobile 6.5 Sense with 320 x 480 resolution HVGA is the "Touch HD Mini".
The best Windows Mobile system is present on "HD Mini" with graphic optimization and speed.
Also HTC Legend has a 320 x 480 resolution HVGA.
Both systems have a 600 MHz processor.
Sorry for my English.
The solution is simple. Don't buy a Legend if you want Windows Mobile. Buy a HD2, or anything else. I'm almost 100% sure that Windows Mobile won't be available for Legend (and there is no need to anyway). The main aspect for the Legend's success is Android and HTC Sense. I don't buy a Mac if I want to run Windows on it
Anyway it would be interesting trying Windows Phone 7 on Legend when it's available.
go wash your mouth wit soap.
How about a dual boot?

WM for me is a good but Legend has a nice aesthetics, I made only a demand since there are similarities between HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend.
However I have also an HD2.
winmo7 looks like a bad OS its so locked out compared to past versions seems like a backwards step

It's not so much an superiority/inferiority issue as to the 100's of dollars I've spent over the years for apps that will be useless with Android.

I have both HD2 and Legend. Legend is my daily phone and HD2 is my business phone. You have a point in telling Winmo offers more that's because Winmo has been on the stage for years and it's come to an end with WP7. There'll ben no upgrade or anything for oldschool winmo devices. Also winmo is quite heavy if you don't have a dragon inside your phone while android works very well with a 600mhz chip. As a matter of fact sometimes my Legend reacts faster than my HD2. And Android market is expanding faster than any other platform so there's no point in winmo anymore. Enjoy your nice designed eye-candy piece of technology as most of us do and forget about winmo the history )))

now in 2011 we should buy a hd2?? I mean now is a little old-fashioned as a terminal? but Android can be used at 100% and with a speed equal to desire hd?? enlighten me on how you developed the current hd2.
Ps:
currently i have a tg01
take it dude!
i was waiting almost one year to get a HD2.... and i get it a week ago...
it worth every penny.
as about the development of Android, etc. ... hd2 the desire is as fast as the HD? I explained the fact of different models of hd2 with more ram? I am buying 1 December 2009, are all flashable on NAND??
They all have the same RAM, and they all can flash Android/WP7 to NAND, the only different is the International versions have 512mb ROM and the U.S tmobile one has 1gb ROM
then any models or versions can be flash? sorry for my english Android in htc hd2 as fast as desire hd?

yes ANY HD2 can be flashed.
The Desire HD has a better processor than the HD2 and was made to run Android, so performance-wise it operates a little better and it has better battery life, but if you go with a CM7 ROM it's really not very noticeable.
So I buy it? XD

It's either that or get a Sensation or dual-core device. As far as single core less expensive phones go, I would buy the HD2.
