[ROM][KANG]Cyanogenmod 7&9 KANG builds Captivate - Captivate Android Development

So I saw this over in the Nexus S development section, so I figured I would bring it here. For those of you unfamiliar with how cyanogenmod works, fixes and new features get submitted to gerrit, where they wait for approval. Once they get approved, they go into nightlies. Some things don't get merged at all. What most of us call KANG builds are nightlies, except with changes from gerrit merged in. For example: the MIUI battery bar is sitting in gerrit, and it might not even get merged in due to a few things, but I personally like it, so I use it. If you need hosting for your KANGS, let me know and I can hook you up.
If you're going to post a KANG, please post what patches you've included, and anything else you find pertinent.

This is a self-compiled kang of CM9 with cherry picks from CyanogenMod’s Gerrit Instance, most comparable to a CM nightly build. You need not apply if you’re not comfortable with testing out new and possibly broken features. All credit goes to cyanogen, #teamdouche and the coders who submit to Gerrit. Thank you to @RyanMacG for providing Euroskank hosting.

Full disclosure: I do not own a Captivate. I currently own a Nexus One, Nexus S, and LTE Galaxy Nexus. I run the exact same builds with the exact same cherry-picks as my daily driver in the corporate jungle. In other words.....I really need my phone to WORK!

Thanks, I will give it a try. If we are running a KANG build and then install a new nightly, does it wipe any of the patches or are they left intact? I would imagine sometimes some of the code would have to be overwritten since the same files are involved. Can you explain how that works? Maybe this should be in the Q&A section but it is very specific to this thread so hopefully it is OK.

I installed the latest KANG and Glitch V13RC. My Cappy didn't melt and all my apps are there so it looks good so far. I love having the MIUI battery bar but I feel so "ideologically wrong"...
Also, that is a great boot animation - definitely a keeper.

New nightly will not include cherry-picks until they have been officially merged.

Mind mentioning why the battery bar won't get merged?

I said "might" not. From what I understand, some of the people involved in the approval process don't like it because it's too MIUI for their taste.

Additionally....the MIUI battery has been designed to read color from theme resource, but the only themes it actually works with, for now, are cyanbread and androidian. This means themers will have to update themes in order for it to "work" properly. So even if it was merged, today, it would only be the current green color on any theme other than the 2 aforementioned themes (unless of course that theme had already been tweaked to comply). I use cyanbread x, so I only get the green bar.
Bright side......the default color used to be piss yellow! #progress

I use R3ds iKaNDee and it is yellow at below 25% It was green at almost full. I assume that is as designed.
Edit: Red at below 15% - time to find a charger...

My comment above about
it being ideologically wrong is the reason given by Diogo. I never saw a further explanation even though it was requested in the comments.

Is that a reference to new patches being merged into your KANG build???
Also, sorry if this is a "noob" question but is there an easy way to know which CM7 build is incorporated into your KANG build? As an example, the Nov 14 KANG build has a build prop listing Nov 11 in it.
I really like the MIUI bar but I also want to know what fixes from the nightlies are in a given KANG build.

On the website that is in the OP, over on the right side, it says what is merged. And bacon is a new build is up, it's one of the terms used in building an android ROM. If I were guessing, the day the build comes out is the day it is based on typically, but I could be wrong.

I flashed over the latest cm7. Is that cool? Seems ok.

Thanks! Love your kernel btw!

I updated post #3 with current cherry-picks. I'll try my best to keep it accurate and up to date. When in doubt, the picks listed at the link should be "most" accurate. If a pick is dropped, it can be safely assumed that it was either merged, abandoned, or needs to be rebased.
(dammit! why was I too late to grab the #2 spot??!!)
FWIW...It's really cool to see that people are downloading and using this kang! I hope it performs well for folks. Maybe I'll post a custom gapps to go with it, too.

"BACON" is essentially a call to download and flash the newest build....akin to "COME AND GET IT!!!"
Build.prop: The next build will have an updated date and will even have an updated version of 7.2.0 RC0. Prop updates when I clean my build directory, but then it takes twice as long to build As such...build.prop date will update every few builds, or so. It doesn't really matter.
As far as current/recent fixes are concerned.... current changes to nightly builds may be viewed HERE and apply equally to my kang and the official nightly. I will only be listing cherry-picks that are "unique" to my build.

Any chance in future post updates you can link these to the gerrit pages?
I think these build are a great idea! Thanks for doing all the work!

Glad you like the builds, man!
As far as linking picks to gerrit goes........in all honesty that would be a bit of a PITA. Most changes involve more than 1 cherry pick. There is frequently a frameworks and a cmparts change. In the case of miui battery, that 1 change includes 4 different cherry picks in its entirety. I prefer to maintain a clean and simple list that describes the "functional" changes.
I would be happy to include a general link to gerrit, though. If somebody wants to read in greater detail about a given pick, it would then be simple enough to do.
#compromise

Bacon good!!
Build is awesome, except for the false "phone storage is getting low" error.
Other that that. great job.

That's prolly your /data/data filling up with cache. Time to move some apps to sdcard. I think that's the message the new data management implementation was said to pop up in lieu of suddenly creating a fc party. If so...i would expect the same to occur with nightly builds, too.
Maybe someone else with that specific experience could chime in on the matter.
Glad your liking the builds though!

P.S. Would you like to look something special and report you ?
Bugs, video recording.
Does it mean that it doesn't record video at all or... kind of new to CM/AOSP roms so sorry if noob question
So far best custom rom to i9295 that i have used. Fast and all the options I need.
But does somebody know how to enable Lockscreen widgets on this rom? I have not found a option to do so. Lockscreen options has a place to change clock options but that does not effect on anything.
@Malous is the gps stable? (ie during navigation, I completely lost the gps symbol with 4.3 custom roms, after some minutes the icon returned and with it gps reception - it would be nice to know if this issue is fixed for s4a or not

I'm sorry I do not have a S4 Active. Kindly test and report back so that I can add to OP.
BTW new build is up and running,.
@a2441918 I was too impatient and flashed (v2) yesterday. GPS looks good so far, if there are any issues I'll post them here. Thanks for supporting the s4a!
/Edit: Could you please include a version number or a date in your filenames? Otherwise it is diffifult to know which file to flash in recovery, if you also downloaded an older version.
Furthermore, it would be great to know the correct md5 of each download and one or two sentences in the OP regarding gapps (where to get, when to flash, do gapps need to be flashed after an carbon upgrade or not?)

Updated the names of the files. Appended version name at the end. I will add Gapps data during next build.
So far so good. Could you please tell me how to synchronize contacts with Facebook (for incoming photo). I love the way that battery least forever almost 1 day.
Gpx works great.
Thank you for this great ROM my friend...

Hi guy, I'm pretty much a noob and I installed the ROM. The ROM looks good and fast.
How can I use Gmail, Google Play etc with it?
Actually there no gapps for it? Isn't there any way to bypass and install Google apps?
Thanks

One dumb question: do you confirm can we just instal each new build without any factory reset and therefore without the backup\restore of the applications? And thanks for the build!

Yes it doent wipe data. Btw who wants Vanir AOSP for S4 Active? Some 50 thanks to this post and you will have it. Ask your friends, team members too.
i just noticed, how good the battery life of this rom is. it is much better that the sammy rom or cm11! How is that possible? i use the app "system panel" for monitoring. the interesting part about this is, that with carbon i get only 1% CPU base load (Samsung an CM11 give me about 3% base load). I dont know the differences or if this is just a feeling....
Hi, is this just for the i9295 or will it work on the SGH-i537 AT&T?
Hey just wanted to know is there is a way to change the display density of this rom. Tried to change from build prop but it doesn't change at all

[ROM][UBL] Paranoid Android 4.5 Beta-1 2014-08-05 (Unofficial) * self-compiled

Hi guys, just sharing my self-compiled Paranoid Android builds.
The ROM is built via SaberMod toolchain with O3 optimization. The kernel is still the stock CM11 kernel, only compiled with different toolchain.
Strictly for unlock-bootloader only. Flash at your own risk.

Some few useful tips:
1. As much as possible, install only 1 home launcher, otherwise the navigation bar keys(back-HOME-recent) will be laggy at certain times. From what I know, this issue is common for all CM11-based ROMs. Just uninstall or freeze(via Titanium app) your other home launchers. EDIT: I just learned that this issue is not applicable to all as some users told me that they are fine with even many launchers installed.
2. For a better audio experience, install ViPER4Android Audio Effects.
3. The recent task will be overloaded in time, hence the RAM suffers(especially on a phone like ours with 800+MB only), try to clear recent task whenever you feel the smoothness and fluidity of the UI degrades.
4. Use ART runtime, it's better than Dalvik. I also get a bit of better battery mileage with ART on my personal experience. It doesn't work if you have Xposed though.

Tapatalked from my Xperia
My rookie github in case others want to build PA also from source. -> https://github.com/Darknyt33/android_device_sony_huashan
Clearly, it is forked from Cyanogenmod and it is not that refine compared to others. I dont even know if some of those files are still needed. I also just add lightbulb overlay (took q from all other xperia github for PA). And also I add the small nav height overlay.
Just sharing here. No intention of being a dev, lol. If I do, I could have just post it at the dev section. The previous one I did was for Mahdi rom which I posted here in general section also and seems got little attention, but it's alright.?
Edit: Also, if anybody here want to build and use sabermod or Linaro toolchain, let me know and maybe I can help you with the way. I just learned how to use those toolchains last week and also knew about JustArchi's O3 optimization. I can link you with all the commits I used when building with 4.8+ toolchain(4.7 has no issue). All the commits and fixes I bookmarked when I read the whole thread of JustArchi's O3 optimization.
Nvm..., deleted ?
Tapatalked from my Xperia
you should have just built aospal since we already have PA
^^I actually tried yesterday with AOSPAL Saberdroid but they are changing their bases to AOSP and not with AOSPA anymore. Once their bases are ok and online again, I'll try to compile it(if I can).
And you mention we have PA already, you're right, except that here is strictly for unlocked-bootloader only and we can use any CM11-based custom kernels here. And NexusPrime's PA have his own added code and tweaks which this one clearly doesn't have, this is pretty barebone PA with the only modification of the nav height I added in overlay(my personal nav height preference 42x36). And different toolchains used.
So we can modifie the navbar size with this PA ? \o
Try GravityBox.
It's an Xposed module.
(Don't like using it myself since I'm a big fan of ART)
We cannot modify nav bar height here @TsunaH , I just made the default to 42x36dip. Adding nav bar settings will defeat the purpose of PA on eliminating those unnecessary settings. But yeah, try gravity box. Or if you don't want xposed, I can give a flashable zip for people wanting specific nav bar height.

awesome job mate. downloading now. will post a review once I use it for a day. How stable is this btw? enough for daily use?
Been using it since I compiled it last week. No problem that I encountered yet on my end. Except I needed to uninstall all my other home launcher and keep only one, otherwise the navigation bar will be laggy. It is actually the same issue I encountered for all CM11-based custom ROMs. Not sure if its my phone that got problem lol.
Btw, there will be another build probably tomorrow.

Thank you, but that message was for the guy that posted in front of me. He shouldn't say that "excepting random reboots, everything is normal" since it clearly isn't.

Features:
Welcome to VanirAOSP. Our mission is to deliver a clean optimized version of Android with subtly improved versions of the features you love to as many devices as possible. we've tried to incorporate and improve our features in a way that makes them more cohesive to improve the overall user experience while correcting any performance regressions and improving functionality..
What to expect:
- This is not a McCopy ROM. What goes into our build is well thought-out and not a bunch of stuff duck taped together because we could.
- maximum optimization. We do our research. We test hard. We build -fstrict -O3 globally and include a massive array of code optimizations and memory leak fixes that we write ourselves and eventually submit to AOSP or Linaro.
- originality in our source. We generate a lot of new commits being features or general code improvements. We are open source to share and improve the community but we also try to make sure we offer a unique experience.
- aesthetics.. hopefully in your opinion
General features:
stock mode - ability revert to stock AOSP code with the exception of a few custom features we chose to keep active
enhanced performance.. longer uptime with less slowdown
custom written CRON and init.d.
UI and graphics improvements
custom navbar, navring, and hardware key features
improved notification handling (active display & halo are in review also)
usability improvements like power reboot menu and sound
animation control
Improved Vanir keyboard
CM's profiles & quicksettings
additional quicksetting tiles
immersive mode
statusbar mods
clock & battery mods
lockscreen blur and other mods
soon to come -> quick cam and flash notifications
busybox, embedded root, init.d, cron etc
yatta yatta yatta
more to come when i feel like updating the op

My initial thoughts after installing the ROM...
ROM installed without any issues..
Auto rotate works.
In call speaker works...
Camera works..but need more time to test...
No reboot so far...but need more time to test...
No inbuilt music player...
Very smooth..
Will report more later...

Pratyush since you using 2 ROM's as well - I just had a question wonder if you can help me with that
I am on TDB as well - Using for now Miui5 & AOKP - Now issue is whenever I flash a new ROM on System1 i.e. where AOKP is at the present - Post that Miui doesn't boot - It would be stuck at MI Logo.
So again I need to flash Miui5 as well which is pretty irritating. If I am not doing anything to System2 then why after any install on System1 affects it - Any Clue Mate - Thanks in Advance :good::good:
My Antutu score in performance mode...way better than balance mode who scored only 26500 and also better than miui v6 which scored 35600...
Just a quick note on reboot issue...whenever I put in my pant pocket and take it after a longtime it reboots...other than that I didn't had reboot issue..
Great ROM...
Hey watchout.... happy to see u on mi3 thread
btw i have created an mi forum.....check it out and letme know if you want to edit something

I have lot of reboots since morning..not sure what is the problem..reverted to miui v6..:crying::crying:Looking forward for a fix...

Very excited to announce my first unofficial build for NP1
Why Paranoid Android?
Paranoid Android is probably one of the best Custom ROM with the main focus on stability and performance all while keeping the UI simple to provide an OEM like experience. PA builds are based on the Code Linaro Organization Android base, which is optimized for Qualcomm platforms and has a higher degree of performance, battery life, and functionality compared to the Android Open Source Project platform. The Paranoid Android team and contributors have always focused on squashing existing bugs, and implementing and improving features, performance, and stability. They dedicated to providing a user experience with the stability that you can expect from stock ROMs with best-in-class performance and features to help you get the most out of your device.
What's Different in these builds?
To be honest, nothing major as this is the very first time that I am trying out building custom roms. Here's something to start with.
Enabled NTCam (Already present in PA Source but disabled in Official builds)
Added Google Photos spoof for unlimited backup

Note: I am not a developer by any means who can contribute these immensely talented and very helping team of PA. I just want to learn more about building ROMs and hopefully add along some useful features that I see fit for my daily use.

You'll have to root and use pixelify module with magisk. The devs of the PA team have clearly mentioned they'll never add the Google photos spoof in official builds.

Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. I don't know why I thought of Google photos spoof. As for the Nothing Camera, it is there in the source but not in the builds. A reference to include it is already there in the sources but just commented out. I simply removed it from comments before building.

thanks for the clarification. on the side note, is it possible to enable the spoofing part while building so rooting isnt needed?
That's exactly the reason why my build exists. My build has the spoofing and Nothing Camera. No need to root.

is there a problem with the microphone when making a phone call on the latest build?
i guess it's now best time to build your unofficial PA. As PA topaz 3 have fixed almost everything for nothing phone. the actual PA is missing unlimited storage and NTcam. They have fixed mic. Even now nothing phone integrated barcode scanner in NTcam so no other Google cam required.
