[Q]Credit Card Foreign Exchange Fee? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Could someone in the USofA that purchased a Note from overseas tell me if your Credit Card company charged a foreign exchange fee? What was the percentage? I want to buy a Note but need to understand the actual total cost involved better.
Thanks to all :-D

Exchange fees vary widely from card to card, I would check with your bank.

It will depend on the credit card. On average the banks charge around 3% foreign exchange fee on top of the 1% MasterCard and VISA charges. There are some cards like the Chase Sapphire and Citi ThankYou Premier which have no fee but I believe you still pay the 1% from VISA and MasterCard. Capital One is one of the only creditors that offers 0% fees as well as they absorb the 1% VISA and MasterCard fee. I used my Sony Card from Capital One to place an order at Handtec and it saved me around $25 USD over PayPal.

American Express does not charge for international transactions, I use it all the times.

I'm pretty sure they do unless your using a specific card like the AMEX Platinum and Centurion cards which have fairly high annual fees. I called the other day about my Blue Cash card to see about using it for the purchase and customer service told me there was a 2.7% foreign transaction fee.

I think that its far away. Most people can barely check their email on their phone. It seems like a lot can barely check it on their computer.
If the banks/credit card companies get involved with this, they will have nothing to worry about in the future.
I think its a step to get us closer to the tech that the uk and japan have plus it could help shops because with the charges that visa and mastercard make places pay when u swipe ur credit or debit cards since our gov won't regulate them

Cellular south tried that a few year ago. I was lucky enough to demo a unit for them. They gave me a limit each month for a few months then I had to feel out a survey. With their phone it was like a prepaid account, you would add money to it and could only spend what you had in the account. Evidently it didnt go to well, cause they dont offer it, But I kinda liked it.

T-mobile Corporate Discounts

I'm sure most people know about corporate discounts but for those that don't, check with your employer and your college (if you went) to see if they have an agreement for corporate discounts. My company gets 10% off and through my college I get 15% off. Even alumni are eligible for the discount. I obviously use the discount from my school. (just got laid off so couldn't use the one from work anyways)
That could save you a lot of money on some plans. However, the discounts only apply to contracted plans. The non-contract plans are not eligible for corporate discounts.

If you sign up for AMWAY global you get 12% discount on t mobile. Its only 50 dollars a year but you need referral which is very easy. If anything I can refer you. I save about $20 a month. I only spend 50 a year. Multiply 20 x 12(months) that's 240 - 50, that's $190 a year I save!! And if you have higher rates like family plans you can save even more!!!

Don't worry if you think you over spent on Galaxy S3. Price protection may cover u.

So I talked to my credit card company today and they said that they will cover/repay me the price drop within the first 60 days of the purchase. The customer service rep was generous and told me that most of the credit card companies have this policy for 30 or 60 days price protection.
After doing some research I found out that out of my 8 credit cards, 6 of them have price protection on them.
This is my card's policy:
http://www.maximizingmoney.com/cred...owest-price-on-freedom-credit-card-purchases/
Please go ahead and try giving your credit card company a call and ask for the price protection policy. You may be lucky to have 90 days protection and so you can wait for longer for even more price drop.
Note: Most of these card companies cover purchases only in US. So you may be lucky only if you bought it from Negri or expansys. Also you have to be minimum a resident of US for this offer.

Pending your situation that being purchase or replacement. The problem could be shipping warehouse in Texas and customer call and order center outsourced in a foreign country. I sent a phone back that took five and 12 people to confirm they received it.

You'll get charged, don't worry. I thought it was a glitch or something too when I bought mine, but depending on what type of card you used to buy your device, the lag between when you purchase it and when the money is withdrawn could be many days later (mine was on day 6). I don't know why, I just know that has been happening.

I ordered on debit card on the 10th and got a "pending transaction" hold on funds on the 14th, that's the same day I received the phone. Then the next day the authorization totally disappeared from my debit card, the money on hold was released, and I haven't been charged yet. Free phone? I doubt it, but most pending authorizations are actually deducted within 24-48 hours. How long do they have to get their money? Hell, it's been 10 days.....

I know I have said it before but I have to say it again - no wonder Motorola loses so much money. You can't run a business like this. Now that they have unfrozen the funds, they run the risk you will spend the available money in the account. Not everyone does a good job balancing their checking account.
They would have recourse against you if there weren't sufficient funds at the time they get around to trying to debiting them, but it would be costly trying to bill you and then turn you over to collections if you didn't pay.
I have never seen such a poorly run business like this before!

Yea, I get what your saying. I was on slickdeals and saw that everyone was getting charged within 48 hours of ordering and thought that I may have gotten lucky and payment fell through the cracks. Until I asked on the forum and someone referred me to this thread. Seems that this is not a one off unique situation.
I have no false hope that the charge won't go through in the near future and that I'll get a free phone (I wouldn't complain though). However, just for sake of argument. How long does a company have to retrieve their money off of a debit card after you order something? I wouldn't think that they could just wait a year to deduct funds. I wonder how long a person would have to wait in the event that they wanted to close their checking account or change banks? There has to be some kind of time limit.......

I am sure there is no one-size-fits-all answer because I am sure the account agreement you agreed to when you activated your debit card varies from bank to bank and includes a choice of law provision in it. And there are federal laws that govern electronic funds transfers, too.
The best and probably only way to get the answer to that question without paying a lawyer to research your particular case is to call your bank and ask them.
But even if your bank refuses to process the debit after a certain period of time, Motorola would not be without recourse against you. They can have the IMEI of your device blacklisted and they can bill you for the phone even after they blacklist the IMEI. If you don't pay the bill, they can sell the debt to a collection agency and the collection agency can get a judgment against you and levy on your account. If you do pay the bill, they can unblacklist your device.
Now there are statute of limitations on debt collection (varies by state), but those are usually long, like on the order of 3-6 years, some states even 10 years!
SOLs for Debt Collection
I know in your mind you paid your debt for the phone when you authorized the debit card transaction, but until it is actually processed, you are in debt to Motorola for the price phone. And you can't just assume that you have no responsibility to keep the funds available for the debit. As I stated a couple of times now, you need to call Motorola and discuss this with them.
Now this is just crazy we are even discussing this because it is just crazy for Motorola to conduct business like this.
This happened to me when I bought 2 PS4's from Walmart.com I received the 2 consoles and didn't get charged at all. 2 weeks passed by and all my money was still in the bank. I think it was on the 16th day when they took the funds out. I was pretty confused, never bothered to ask why though.

They can blacklist AND still try to collect on the debt. Just like if you cancel your line before your contract is up - the wireless carriers can blacklist your device AND try to collect the ETF.

You pay nothing at the kiosk, they make you go to the register with the receipt, it was 749 for 1 and 1498 for 2. I paid around 117.00 sales tax, than u go to the claim area so they can pick up your order and take it back to the kiosk for them to finalize your setup of phones.

Yeah, I actually joined Costco JUST to get my phone from them. The membership was $55 + Tax, then my phone was $0 down (REGARDLESS of T-mobiles credit rank for you), and I just paid sales tax on the phone. Total out the door was around $120.
So, now I have a Costco membership AND a new phone, for less down than what T-mobile wanted. Seems like a win/win.
Got my note 4 today no money down not even taxes and they was charging me almost 400. At the t mobile store... Great deal
