Hey everyone. About a year ago I made this Vintage Display Cabinet for comparing Phones Sizes.
It all started when I wanted to get the Streak. And then the Galaxy TAB. But since dual cores were "around" the corner I waited. So I finally got the Note! Well it's on its way to be specific.
A lot of my friends have used it and almost all liked it.
And I try to keep it updated. Smaller than 3.5" display phones not included. I included mostly the most popular phones with the most popular size screens.
Any additions that you want me to include please request them and I will seriously consider them.
It's the actual measurements of the phones. So view it in "actual size". Some have +1mm width difference. Very minor/unnoticeable tho so I did not bother to fix it. Might do it in the future if requested.
< -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- > < -------------- >
I hope you like it. And please you are all welcome to share your thoughts about it.
Enjoy..!

Update: A lot have been comparing the Note's screen to the SGS 2. Most comparisons were either done with SGS2 on top of the Note or side by side.
But when the SGS 2 is on top of it, you can't obviously look throught and compare them unless you have X-RAY vision.
The below is the ACTUAL measurements of the Note compared to "smaller" screens! Enjoy:
I hold all © of all my uploads in this thread. Thank you.
TIP: Next project... It will be in 3D.
P.S: And on a side note to everyone. I have been around XDA since 2005/6 when bought my QTek 9000 and HTC TyTn.
I believe I was registered with another name but I could be wrong since I searched the member posts with a couple of names I used to use with nothing so I might have just been lurking for my phones back and since then..
That is very nice - good work.
You might consider including the mytouch 4g.
I assume it's popular since t-mobile pushed it so hard.
You might also consider labeling the phones - I don't know what some of them are.
- Frank
awesome work. Now I really see how wide the note is.
I'm very glad you liked it. And I appreciate your suggestions and are noted.
You are correct about the naming. Probably had some reason for not doing it when I made it(can't remember now) but probably because It wouldn't look as good.
But then again it's purpose is so people can compare them. I will give this some thought. Suggestions are more than welcomed.
Also about myTouch 4G is about the same size of the SGS1 but 1cm(0.4") narrower. I will probably get it in.
I forgot to clarify that I did not added the phones based only on popularity but mostly based on popular body/screen size. But then again, not everyone knows every phone's dimensions.
Thank you for your input.
What's the device on the left of the Note?

Yeah... it's the Streak. It had a bit too much real estate around the screen for my liking.
Useful comparison pic. Thanks Op.
Note is much lighter and feels thinner.
Hence For one handed operating, note is much easier.

Nameplates below each device would look cool, actually, since your picture is like a phone museum display.

You kinda need screen sizes if you include the galaxy tab since there are like 20 of them now, and I think they all look the same. Perhaps under the phone name?
- Frank
Thanks, impressive and very well done
Might I just make a suggestion, for an alternate version if you don't want to clutter up this one is to add labels underneath labeling the devices, just to make them easier to identify for most people ( I got most, not sure about a few )

Very nice. As others before, I also recommend you any kind of labelling
As you show phones in a kind of "vintage" display cabinet like an old collection on a Scientific or Natural History museum, I suggest a kind of old labels as used to identify butterfly collections or so on....

Well, I believe they say two minds are better than one. Imagine many minds together here on xda. What I'm saying?
Since this was mostly for personal amusement and comparing at first and I'm at my shop when someone asks me which is what and same goes for some of my friends, I hadn't thought about it.
But the idea of a 2-row Vintage steel/platinum looking nameplate or something similar below each phone with just the name and screen size below the name it really interests me. I will work on it Asap.

^^^^^^^ Suggestion already noted.
Since I made it I know them, but now that I think about, if someone showed me this, I would also probably missed a couple. That's what I like about users feedback. It really helps. Thank you.
Btw, the phones are Tab 10.1 , iPad 2 , TAB 8.9 , Streak 7 , TAB(7") , Streak 5 , Note , GNexus , SGS2 , SGS1 , HD2 , TouchHD , Iphone 3GS/4.

Hello..
While im in Youtube i see the videos of the IPhone apps .. and i c how fun it is by just taping the screen ..

Here's some examples :

this app contain graphic photo of a piano buttons when u press it, it plays a tone .. is it hard to do it?!
you will tell me the diamond is not a multitouch screen.. its ok we dont want to play two tones at once .. we will tap every single button and play its tone..
just for fun it doesnt have to be the same as the diamond .. we only put what the Diamond can play or run ..
iGuitar
video:http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=w40P3q3PIu8
iGuitar is a simple app as same as iAno .. just tap on the string and play .. we dont want to hold a string and play a different tone in the same string like a real guitar .. its enough i think with 6 strings and play with them .. for fun and shows ..
iDrummer
video:http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=coiaPu371AA&feature=related
dont have to say much about it .. its the same .. only its very simple .. touch and play .. no need to multitouch..
---------------
and so on with many apps with the same subject .. please comment and tell me your opinions about what i wrote .. and explain to us whats can be done .. and what cant be done .. and why ..
waiting for this thread to explain everything...
if it's so simple, do it yourself.
there are plenty of apps similar to these outhere, and the reason they are not really developed for WM devices anymore compared to the iPhone is due to the vast amount of marketing the iPhone has.
htc sell for 1 million
iphone sell for 100million.
this is the different

so please stop crying over the iphone apps.
no i do not hate an iphone, but i didn`t get the fuzz and the hype that followed over it.
and i certanly didn`t like the hype creating policy they applied.
meaning, the store`s had plenty in stock, but were only alowed to sell 3 or 5 iphones a day, for a few weeks.
in other words, creating a hype.

Just look at the hardware specs, of course it could be done but what we are saying is the market for such gimmicks is not wm it is apple. I got my phone for it's gps, it's vga screen it's gpu and cpu, not for a load of useless gimmick software that has no practical value. Basically anyone who wants to make such software has a much bigger commercial market with the iphone. I have seen maybe 1 or 2 adds for the diamond in magazines and that is it. The iphone is a nice object I'll admit but it is driven purely by the $ and not by a community of geeky nerds who love to tinker (myself excluded of course), software given to thousands or bought by millions. It is just fodder for the masses!
My last words on the subject, I'm sick and tired of this kind of crap thread, I recommend that no one else bother to post here, it has all been said a thousand times.
Out with the bores!
Oh give badrey a break! Some of you people are so deluded, it's hysterical. The iphone has some amazing apps and some of the key things it has that most the Diamond apps don't are style, sheer usability and a real sense of fun. Seriously, the Diamond apps can sometimes feel clunky and overly practical, however useful and well constructed they may be.
The saddest thing about all this bitterness towards the iphone and people who dare to mention the name is that there seem to be more and more posts/apps concerning Iphone themes, icons and slide to answer apps than ever before. So you all can't hate the iphone has much as you profess - stop with this childish pretense, it's sad!
Don't get me wrong, I love my Diamond, but I wish some of the extremely talented developers on here would raise the bar by utilising the Diamond's excellent screen and GPU for some good old fashioned colour filled fun. If it means using other successful phones as inspiration, so be it.
Whilst i'm getting things off my chest, to those of you with naked/ bikini clad girl wallpapers - nothing yells 'i'm a strange nerdy virgin' louder to people, especially women! Trust me, my gf heavily agrees and has often laughed at some of themes i've shown her on here, so sort it out. LOL!
Anyway, please take my post with a pinch of salt gentlemen.

I'm a Die Hard win-mob user and will probably still be in many years to come... I still have that stock of Beta-Max video's too ready for when the market picks up... but.....
The iPhone does have some amazing "toys" in its app collection...... I want some of those too!

people develope to get some money
with diamond you cant get much money when you develope something.
only few develope do for fun. like some in here. but this is all.
1 develope for diamond = 1million develope for iphone.
you can see the different. money
your question is very childish
Yes but i think you'll find that most Windows mobile phones that get released from now on will have the same G-sensor + touchscrenn technology so the apps/games wont just be for the Diamond they will be for all ppc.So how many people would be buying apps/games then.
If you catch my drift.
Keep in mind that while the diamond was only released 3 months ago, the iPhone has been out and played around with for almost 2 years. Most of those iPhone Apps started out as apps for the Jailbroken iPhone. Windows Mobile 7 is going to be the great equalizer.

This is supposed to be our equivalent of the iPhone's iAno application:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392268
I think one of our issues is the lack of muti-touch, so such applications are impossible. (please don't tell me about a multi-touch keypad, I know - but it's not 'true' multi-touch, just divided into two separate capacitive sensing sections.)
The main issue is being stuck with Windows Mobile as an OS. The .net development platform is fine and the hardware may be great too. But as an OS, WM is sucky and doesn't allocate it's resources in the correct places.
Just look at the consistant responsiveness of the iPhone. In fact you don't need to get an iPhone to see this. The iPod touch is a fabulous piece of kit.
Personally, I think once Google's Android has proven itself and made it's way onto a few more devices than the G1 it will be another great platform for developers and users - regardless of whether those users continue to support the iPhone or not. Likewise Symbian may yet prove a worthy force in the PDA/smartphone market once it becomes touchscreen with series 60v5.
For those nay-sayers about the iPhone, I truly believe they just haven't had a real good play around with one recently. Once you have seriously tried it out, lived with one for a few hours, experience the App-Store, iTunes integration, Media Player, Huge screen, Safari Browser, Pinch to zoom, Multi-Touch, Google Maps, BBC iPlayer, etc it really does make one wonder how Windows Mob continues to sell ANY units!... Sure they have their own shortcomings but WM6.1 has many, many more.

Hello, everybody. Since there's no forum for this 4G new phone - a twin of Blackstone , I hope you don't mind me joining you...
I just posted some photos here.

But my knowledge in WinMo is very limited-- I was a UIQ guy.
I really appreciate it if anyone can help me with my question here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=461910
Thank you very much!
Your questions isn't specific toHTC Touch HD (4G) at all, its just a general windows mobile issue. So you shouldn't ask in this forum, and creating two threads for the same topic isn't fine as well.
But I think you questions get answered in the other thread.
Thank you, johnpatcher. That was just my first post. I do have more questions (as a new user of WinMo) to post later. After all, writing in English takes much time for me.
On the other hand, I'm not sure if any one can answer my questions specific to Max4G, since it is not for sale outside Russia, yet.
But it'll be interesting to compare it with HD, won't it?
p.s. I posted some questions on a Russian forum, however, I didn't find such good forum there compared to xda-developers.
HTC Max4G vs HTC HD
some simple comparison by a WinMo newbie:
Advantages of Max4G over HD
1. supports 4G WiMax
2. 1500mAh battery (HD: 1350)
3. built in 8GB memory (HD: 512MB ROM)
4. supports TV-Out (HD: none)
5. (disputable) looks better
Disadvantages of Max4G to HD
1. no 3.5mm audio jack
2. doesn't support 3G (no HSDPA/WCDMA)
3. minimum accessories in the kit, no soft case, microSD
4. costs 1050 USD in Moscow (sorry I wrote an incorrect price in another post)
--- however, this price is regarded low in Moscow provided the price for Touch Pro is 1300 USD there.
5. sports 3.2 megapixel camera (HD: 5.0 megapixel)
--- but this is an advantage for me, since I think 2.0 mega is enough for such small lense. Extra pixels don't improve the quality of photos at all; mostly they just waste more memory.
Equals
1. no flash for camera
2. gorgeous 3.8" display
3. expansion slot microSD
4. no GPS software
5. both support GPRS, EDGE, WiFi
6. equivalent CPU (I guess?)
I always heard that WinMo has great choices of software applications, but so far I cannot find the text input/keyboard for Chinese and Japanese languages.
The only program I heard is CE-Star, which is said to be perfect for X1. But I downloaded the trial version from the official website, and it caused serious crash on my Max4G Could it be due to the Russian interface on Max...??
Any help is greatly appreciated.
The file downloaded from the following link works fine for Traditional Chinese input on my wife's diamond:
http://www.studiokuma.com/wm/?section=support
Without her I can't tell you which one is the one she uses, buty I am sure it will make more sense to you then me.
Thank you so much for sharing the Studio Kuma.
I was in ecstasy to know that website, until.....
until I find the sentence at the system requirement: "This software doesn't work with phones after HTC Touch"
But thanks anyway!

The diamond actually was published after the Touch, wasn't it ? So maybe just give it a try.
Perhaps being unable to read Chinese meant being brave enough to install it on diamond and pressing ok wherever I saw it. All I can say is it has very good integration on Diamond. It works fine on sms, email and messenger so far I had no complaint from her. I am not sure if the resolution difference would be an issue. It works perfect on my case. Also, never tested on official rom as well but i guess should be ok.
WiMax in Russia
Right now the 4G WiMax network is only functioning in two Russian cities: Saint Petersburg & Moscow. Last time when I was there, the 4G coverage was not satisfactory. I guess that is why Yota is free of charge so far, and it'll begin to charge around 50USD/month - unlimited access - after 31 March 2009 when the company Scartel promises to complete most of the construction.
(Don't you think 50USD is too expensive only for 4G service? The Moscow MTS GSM charges me about 70USD/month; that's 120USD totally. )
With that unlimited 4G access, Scartel says you can listen to tons of free music and watch tens of TV channels -- almost useless for me personally.
After booting up a new Max4G device, you have to download the Yota Center program in order to start up its service. But you need at first to find WiFi or spend a whole hour on downloading it via GPRS. Why couldn't they just save the program in the Max4G CDROM?
I was located in Moscow downtown. The 4G signal was very weak. The signal (RSSI) was around -90dB and the quality (CINR) was 9dB averagely.
However, it dropped to zero if you walk away from the window. That is, it was only usable on the road -- but I did not want to use a phone on a December Moscow street at all! ...So I gave up and switched to WiFi.
Some Russian guy told me he enjoys the high speed music channel when driving. It's also said the Yota network works better in Saint Petersburg.
My preliminary conclusion is, so far it's pain to use WiMax. Let's wait until January 2009 and I'll share my experience again.
You are right. If it works fine on a Diamond, there's a chance it works on Max4G, too.
I'll install the Spb Backup before trying the StudioKuma, in case it fails.
Hi again,
Out of curiosity, tested on my HD and here are the screenshots. I have no clue about what I might have input though.
Hope it helps.
You're lucky. It's very goos phone but need time to explore it. iPhone (T-Mobile G1) was same story, but after many hours hard work, cracking, experiments it's now perfect. HTC Max 4G is specially made for Yota, and truly hard locked to it. Need some jailbreak , custom WWE ROM, Hard SPL etc.

On my Max it's written QUAR100
Today I got on my hand 3 phones altogether: Max4G, HD and a white Diamond.
I confirm that the batteries for Max & HD are completely different in dimension. The battery for Max is much larger.
When holding Max & HD side by side, you feel Max is slightly larger and thicker, and you understand that Max has to be "square" to keep its size reasonably slim.
I took some pictures by my SE P1i, but it was too dim and the result was horrible. Anyway, I'll post them up here later.
Sorry the following pics were poorly shot - by a phone camera in a dim room.
This picture shows that the batteries for HD and Max4G are not interchangeable.

How is it looking for? I think, looks very good, but this orange keys on hardware keyboard, blee!
And specifications, but unfortunately not official. Looks really great!
According to insider:
-8.1mpx auto focus, VGA @ 30fps (MP4 HQ)
-3.5´ WVGA OLED (increased from 3.0 from X1)
-GPS, aGPS
-Accelerometer
-Faster processor
-512 RAM
-Custom Windows Mobile 6.5 (SE engineers customized Win6.5 which runs very. very speedy. in par with iphone and better in some cases)
-XPERIA Panels are modified with plenty of innovative features (PS3 remote play being one of them)
-Upgrading to Windows Mobile 7 is supported by Xperia panels

really??????????? wtf SE no serious cpu update come on ¿¡¿¡¿¡¿
and LESSSSSS storage?????????
i believe the hardware pics but that About screencap better be a joke!!!!!
furthermore if they try n shaft USA on fps again ill be writing letters!!!
Edit: after calming down a bit, slightly more formal thoughts emerge...
closer examination of the pictures seems to also reveal what appear to me to be two spearks on the back = sweet jesus stereo sound that i can hear! without hacks/cabs/whatever .. and do i also notice a HARDWARE lock switch on the side?! near what appears to be the cam button!? i'lll be dipped n **** n rolled in breadcrumbs! i've longed for this ! i really hope we get upgraded to a magnetic stylus.. so many cool features available from that..
also someone mentioned it looking like a bunch of plastic = i can live with that.. i baby my phone as it is.. hardly a scratch on it.. and seeing how i don't drop it in toilets or on concrete... i'm fairly certain i can care for a plastic smartphone just as well.. not too mention it makes the overall unit LIGHTER! a lighter xperia is a great thing imho
but reallly? the same cpu ? we've got serious competition across the board in Q4 09 and beginning of 2010 phones coming out with 1GHz cpu's and UP! why bother with this outdated CPU that doesn't even support 30fps if using the MSM201A i mean why have an 8.1 mp cam that can't even record 30fps?
INSANITY!
they keyboard= EXACTLY WHAT THE XPERIA NEEDS! an independent key keyboard so we don't have the same keyboard issues we did with the X1.. *(my current x1 isn't even a year old. has been repaird once (jammed power button) and babied the rest of the way and my keyboard is going out.. i key x key m key v key spacebar key alll have issues.. at this rate i'm wondering why i didn't just get a touch HD?
"insider specs" = obviously not a faster cpu
same or less internal memory? that doesn't even make sense with an 8.1mp cam on board! wtf!
wm 6.5, while not a huge improvement seeing as how most of us are already running 6.5 it's still a better UI *titanium* than the standard 6.1 today screen
Accelerometer = Thank god! whippe! the fun begins!! *was very sad when i found out my x1 en route didn't have one *
larger 3.5 in screen possibly AMOLED = this is a huge selling poing... the damn lip on the x1's screen is veeeeery annoying especially since i rely so heavliy on touch now that my keyboard has started going bad...
It looks like pice of plastic. But 3.5" and Accelerometer, cool.
But I dont believe that's X2, or why SE start using that much plastic?
I just love that brushed metal of X1.
That "insider" is Ronka, he's not exactly known for his accuracy. Or sense, half the time. I'd take it with a pinch of salt.
AFAIK it's the early proto,
possible processor change.
I still don't see a mouse cursor on the screen. It would be nice if that were included in the new release.
damn wrong... SE really screwed it up
Well, ya know people complained about the X1 being too expensive. So if SE is going to correct "that mistake", then they have to make the device cheaper/cheesier
My next phone will be a WM7 phone. I'll cram WM6.5 into my X1 when they officially release it.

Well Microsoft seems to be on a roll lately, with mainly everyone praising windows 7, it could translate to an awesome OS for mobile as well.
On another note, if X2 is supposed to be compatible with WM 7, therefore it would have to meet the requirements of it, like multi-touch, faster processor, and such...

True for the third time!
Ccccombo breaker?
What exactly makes WM better?
Performance? No
Look and feel\UI? Hell no.
Open source? No
Free? No
App store? Coming, but only for 6.5 (WTF?!) So, no.
OS updates? If your manufacturer bothers
Third party software? WM is better at software now, but Android has just started. And I believe android got more possibilities when it comes to letting third party's use every single piece of hardware in the phone.
Android got the donut update and 20 phones incoming this year so popularity will increase a lot. Androids strength is in its potential (of stuff we know are coming).
And we got the amazing integration of a tons of googles services, and lets not forget google wave that we can safely assume will be tightly integrated in android. Oh and android is the only mobile OS we've seen spotify on.
Then again, im no expert. Tell me why you guys think WM is better (besides the fanboyism I mean).
edit: oh and xda exists in order to FIX WM, but that does not make it good...

... part of the price you pay for your WM phone goes to Microsoft. None of what you pay for an android phone goes to google. Is this hard to understand? We're talking about the OS here, jesus.
And you could answer yes to all the questions? Please do, and feel free to add explanations... other then "duuuuh, stupid".

Agreed 500%. Yes to all of them.
Ok,
App store: there are many dedicated WM app stores, so I don't really care now who owns that. Instead of one there are many to choose from. No problem here.
As for open source - just look at this forum. WM is definitely open source and is tweakable to the extreme.
Look and feel: well, a bit individual part. I REALLY like WM look and feel with plethora of available customizations around added to it's default look.
And I would say that the overall functionality is also on WM side.
Updates: Yes, we get free updates.
And in opposition to Android,
there's less things to improve or especially to ADD to the functionality of the OS,
so naturally you get more updates..
You talk about the connection to Google services: well, that's a bummer since I rather like to have easy connection to any services I like.
If you want to rely completely on ONE provider - your choice, I'd never do that...
And performance: well, where did you find your info?
IMO WM performance is generally great, with glitches as ANY other platform.
Plus: the amount of functional and diverse software is unbeatable on WM.
Android is young and it's one of the drawbacks too.
Well i have had the hd2 for 6 months which before that i had an iphone 3gs. I'm sorry, even though you can pretty do anything you like with the hd2 windows mobile and techinically it is a superior phone and not restricted to the apples way of life, the iphone is a smoother phone, ok, the screen is smaller but the keyboard is brilliant, you would of thought a bigger screen on the HD2 the keyboard would be better!! and now iphone has 225,000 apps vs a few thousand on WM.
I have used my hd2 withcooked roms, messed around with radios, emulators..etc..but again the iphone seems to have the edge...
Thank xda developers for all you have given...i bid fair well. You never know one day i may be back if Windows 7 is decent no doubt you will be casting your eyes over that and customising it to the extreme if Microsoft will allow it that is!

You think too highly of yourself to even consider the notion that any of us gives a flying hoot whether you're here or not. If you like things that work out of the box, go ahead and get Apple, they are certainly good for devices like that.
But do not make ****ty-threads trying to sound sincere and genuine when all you're doing is trying to start another "I'm sorry folks, Apple is just better than WM regardless of what you tell me" thread before you leave.

All phones have their flaws, even your precious iPhone. Different phones are better for different people. For the "power user" the HD2 is a very excellent phone, even with its flaws. Personally, I've tried the iPhone OS, and I can't stand the limitations. It's a personal thing, so don't force your personal opinions down our throats and expect us to pat you on the back for it.

I form my own opinions based on personal experience and research.
@ Tygrtail.........ok.........
I have an HD2 incoming, but the OP's got a point, whether it needs to be posted every time a user decides to 'leave' the HD2, or not. Say what you will about the iPhone and its somewhat limited feature-set compared to a heavily-customized WM device, the features that are there work and the work well. I cringe at the thought of fighting with the HD2 each day, but it's something I'm willing to put up with. But you cannot deny the large number of issues the device faces, issues that shouldn't exist in a high-end smartphone:
SMS lag
Audio lag
Freezing, rebooting
Touchscreen inaccuracies, high sensitivity, jitter
No 720p support
Lock-screen glitch (can't slide to unlock)
Tiny MMS issue
The list goes on. The issues are a combo of WinMo and HTC. Blame it on whomever you wish, but the end result is a less than stellar experience for many.
Yeah, you can interpret the OP's post as something akin to flamebait, but what I see are people with some serious defensiveness for their phones. Perhaps I'll join you when I get my HD2, but for now, I think I'm a fairly impartial outsider.

Unfortunately, not all is peachy when wireless carriers and handset makers start messing with the stock Android experience. Reviews of the Fascinate by Slashgear and Engadget note that the phone uses Bing as its default search engine, not Google - probably more fallout from the cozy Bing-Verizon relationship. That wouldn't be so egregious if you could switch search widgets at will, but alas, the only way to remove Bing is by hacking the phone.
Verizon also swapped in its own Navigator app for Google's free navigation as the default for providing directions, but at least this can be changed in the phone's settings.

Ok, I've been wanting a Galaxy S variant for a long time now and of the versions available in the US I like the Fascinate the most (I am CERTAINLY wating for confrimation the GPS falw is fixable though before buying). However, this Bing **** is just too much. I don't want to have to root a phone that should aready be MINE, but it's looking like I will have no choice here. Problem is....I'm a super noob and have never rooted any phone ever and don't want to brick it.
So, I need to start reading. Can someone point me to what you think is a really good comprehensive overview of the methods and implications (warranty?, future updates?, reversion to stock os if rom is modded? etc. etc. etc.) involved in rooting a phone. The more exhaustive, detailed and authoritative the source, the better. Thx guise.

The current Galaxy S variants have a one click root application. You download it, run it, your phone is now rooted. Rooting it simply opens it to do whatever the hell you want. The norm is to find a stripped ROM (also known as vanilla aka plain) and run the phone at its maximum speeds with no frills or fancy eye candy widgets.
The other spectrum is, to root the phone and do what you want, paint the walls pink, add the latest moby song as your ring tones, install custom ROM's, it's up to you.
I'm not the least bit worried about Bing, even if google is locked out of the stock phone, it probably won't be very hard to fix. It's hard to deny the fact that outside of that issue, this is Verizon's best phone (obviously up for argument, but the screen, come on).

Actually the screen is the only think keeping me from this phone. I got a chance to play with one for awhile last night and compare it w/ my D2. The quality of text on the new SAMOLED display is not good. The best way to describe it is an old dot matrix printer. My eyes were actually fatigued from trying to focus and refocus on blurry text. The D2 on the other hand was quite sharp and very easy on the eyes.
Just something to be mindful of if you're one w/ sensitive eyes or don't like fuzzy text. Other than that, it feels very solid in the hand. And I experienced zero lag at any time. Even w/ touchwiz/bing, it made my D2 look like a go-bot.

I have a droid 2, been using it for about 3 weeks. Have you actually seen an AMOLED screen before side by side next to the droid 2? Text is 1000000 times superior on the AMOLED. Images and movies even more. It even has a higher resolution even thought the AMOLED doesn't need higher res.

Yes, I've seen one. Yes, I've put the D2 side by side w/ my Zune HD, the Captivate, Vibrant, Epic, and Fascinate. Text on the (S)AMOLED's will never be as sharp as long as the current pentile matrix is being used. It's actually not even 800x400, but 653x392 because each pixel contains only 2 subpixels alternating b,g r,g vs a typical LCD w/ r,g,b r,g,b.
It's fast, responsive, and has inky blacks, but it doesn't do white, proper color, or sharp text. Side by side, text on the D2 IS sharper than any of the Galaxies.
It works for my Zune HD because I'm only watching movies or scrolling around tracks...in black menus. There's no reading going on there. For a phone you're going to do a lot of reading on, it's just not suitable.
IMO, the iPhone 4's display is the perfect match for a phone. It's very bright and extremely clear...like reading paper...from a laser, not a dot matrix like the Galaxy. It's just too small IMO.
I like my droid 2, but couldn't disagree more. The galaxy S is king of the screen quality and by a wide margin.
I think this droid2 has a good screen, but n o different than the EVO in my opinion.

Yeah, this is getting out of hand. Check Phil's videos out over @ androidcentral. Some pretty nasty stuff. Even though you can get the google search widget, it reroutes through bing! Hitting the little magnifying glass pulls up bing, typing in the url box pulls up bing. And apparently gnav doesn't work...grain of salt there.
Yes, u can put google maps on there as i installed it yesterday when i played with it at the store, GMapps also comes with navigation, we are good guys

You what i noticed on this forum (fascinate)? A lot of people ready to bash the hell out of it. I see good things in all phones. Yes the droids have bootloader locks, but they have been bypassed. Yes Samsung has GPS issues, but its probably software since they all use the same hardware. Sure the HTC phones are slow, but HTC has been supporting their phones the best.
In XDA forums, which i have been a part of since 2004, a solution to your problems will always be found. To attempt to create panic here is pointless let alone try and do it before the product is even out.
Haha, thanks for the quick reality check. You know, I did have an incredible for a short time and wnet back through some older forum posts only ti find my reason for return did not have anything to do with the text being blurry. I wonder if I could just get used to that, and the overblown colors? I must admit, im very tempted to swap my D2 with the fascinate today. I would be stuck with it tho.
