Easy, get a dual core.
Lol just messin'. But in all seriousness, there's a ceiling with the current 2nd Gen Snapdragon that the Glacier has. Hardware acceleration won't be available until you have ICS, and better gaming quality won't be achieved unless you get a better phone. Even the first gen Galaxy S would be a huge upgrade in the GPU department compared to the Glacier.
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is what you wan't isn't achievable with the current phone that you have, GPU acceleration can be with ICS so you'll have to wait for that.

[Q] G2's CPU and GPU.

Hey XDA,
I currently have a MyTouch 3g 32B. Yeah I know, ancient, right? I'm currently looking to upgrade to either a T-mobile MyTouch 4g or a T-mobile G2 (aka Desire Z).
I'm into custom ROMs, radios, hboots, SPLs, kernels, you guys know the drill. I'm pretty dedicated to Cyanogenmod, and I've noticed that they only support the G2 right now, I haven't really heard anything about the MyTouch and CM. So this gives the G2 a big advantage over the MyTouch.
Keyboard doesn't matter. The front facing camera gives the MyTouch a little bit of an edge. I'm leaning towards G2 because of modding.
This isn't really a versus thread, as I have almost all the info I want from gsmarena.com. But I'm having a hard time comparing the CPU and GPU in the two phones. Not much turns up on Google. Obviously the speeds are different, but that doesn't matter much as I'll be overclocking it.
So which phone has a better CPU/GPU? I've heard the G2's GPU is currently the best, not sure how true that is. I will be using the phone for emulators.
The question: what does XDA think of the CPUs/GPUs? Can anyone give me the model of GPU the phones use?
Thanks!
Nick
P.S. Cross-posted to MyTouch 4g.
The CPU in the G2 is the MSM7x30, not sure of the exact model; the MT4G has the MSM8255. The GPU is the Adreno 205, I believe both have it.
EDIT: I'm rarely 100% positive, but almost so in this case
Yeah, the G2 and MyTouch 4G both share the same cpu and gpu. The only difference is the default clock speed of the cpu, 800mhz for the G2 and 1ghz for the MyTouch.

GPU, yes, but CPU, no.
The G2/DZ has the MSM7230.
The MT4G has the MSM8255, same as the Desire HD.
But bear in mind the G2's CPU has huge overclocking potential.

indeed very true
I have heard of cyanogen being on the mt4g by some guys on youtube. Haven't seen a vid with it on it. Only mention of it in video commentary.
If you can get cyanogen on mytouch I would say go with it. It has 768mb ram instead of 512mb with the g2. If you want to run any Sense roms then go with the mt4g. Sense is a memory HOG.
For now the G2 is the overclocking champ at 2.0 ghz. 1.5ghz and higher is commonly 100% stable for most of us. The mt4g has been seen at 1.7ghz stable. Not sure how common that is though.
Keep in mind that devs are still discovering both phones and there is still a lot more to be accomplished between both phones. If you can wait a bit to see what they come up with I would.

I'm running the stock Sense ROM on my DZ. No memory issues whatsoever, plenty of free memory. Sure, it uses up slightly more, but there's still plenty of free memory. I won't run any faster just because you have an extra 256 MB RAM free.
I was running villain and virt. There was just too many slow points even while overclocked. Once while navigating with music it left me with only 12 mb. Not that Sense isn't a fun rom to have, it is. But there's a reason why, from the factory, they put it on a phone with 768mb.
I'm sure they weren't aiming at making the mt4g a better performing phone. Just a similarly performing phone with a slightly more demanding stock OS.

I suggest that was a problem with those custom ROMs then. The stock Sense ROM has no problem with RAM.
Very possible. I forgot the DZ was stock sense. How much ram do you have free after a fresh boot? Most I had with villain was 120 and 160 with virt. Both sat at 80ish under normal use though.
Perhaps MySense is the reason they put 768.
At any rate, if I could get Cyanogen on the MT4G.. and I hadn't already bought the G2, I would. Similar prices and more ram plus higher stock clock speed. Even if I never used that extra ram, just having it there would be nice.

Simple answer Yes. This is my best phone yet.
just made the same switch, getting mine later today or tomorrow.. hope its not "android" lagging as engadget writes
anyone who says that this phone lags is a jack*ss. If you run a quadrant benchmark on the stock phone you get marks of around 2000 which beats a nexus one by around 600. I use the android revolution rom and get a score of around 2500. On linpack i get 75 megaflops. The "lagging" problem is solved by switching the usb debugging option on. This phone rocks!! With an adreno 205 graphics unit, 1 ghz processor(can be overclocked upto 1.53 ghz --- buzzoc) and 768 mb of ram..its the fastest phone on the market today
Yes, the hardware is top of the line on the DHD, but still im afraid of the OS, engadget (known Apple fans) wrote about the Naxus S -"touch response and general framerate on everything seems to be cranked closer to the vicinity of the iPhone 4....-with little of that Android-lag we've seen on earlier devices".
But after seeing some youtube clips on the DHD and not noticing any lagg what so ever, i ordered mine and hope that engadget just doesnt like Android in their reviews

75 MFLOPS? What have you done with your phone??? I have Android Revolution 1.8 with the 1.1.1 Buzz Kernel 1,51Ghz running on Performance Mode (SetCPU) and I get around 53 MFLOPS ... ??

there is a bug called the init bug causing the lag, all you need to do is enable usb debugging mode from the development menu and it will go away for good, also animated live wallpaper are known to slow things down a notch, so leave that off
all android froyo phones after few days of usage might drop speed so when this happens all you need is to make a restart and it will be very fast again, the reboot takes a moment, also you should know this speed drop is not reflected inside the apps, only the main interface and it only happens when you've been using the phone heavily for a couple of days without a restart
gingerbread is said to have an app garbish cleaning mechanism that should hopefully fix this issue, HTC updated/updating its desire, legend and wildfire to froyo, so you should expect their flagship DHD to get the gingerbread update first
otherwise phone is blazing fast, fastest android phone on the block, equal or faster than the nexus S (the 2nd gen snapdragon is very optimized plus higher IO and more RAM, highly overclockable)
the GPU is also fast in theory the nexus S should be faster but all test are showing better results from the DHD's adreno 205 GPU, it runs quake 2 at 45-60fps, neocore at 58FPS, nenamark at 42FPS

Try it without rooting first to see if you really need the DHD rooted. I have rooted mine but to be honest I still haven't done anything that needs root access. The OS gives you the opportunity to install non-market apps, so unless you want a custom ROM or overclocking, it makes little sense to root it. And if you decide to do it anyway, there are some good step-by-step guides in the development section on how to do it safely.
Anyway - enjoy your new phone! I know I do

It's the design. The point in this is to keep it from scratching the screen while put upside-down. And if you install a screen protector, it lies completely inside that space, so it's leveled with the heightened "lip".

Iphone might be more user friendly but android is more customisable. Plus desire hd has great hardware. Iphone is for followers, android is for leaders.

[Q] Wildfire slower than LG Optimus One P500?

Hey,
My girlfriend got herself an LG Optimus One P500. It's basically same hw specs as wilfire, only it has 600mhz cpu and better display.
However after playing with it I find it much more responsive and faster in general. It feels snappier, AndEngineExamples benchmarks gives 13fps for particles instead of 3fps on wildfire. Abduction2 works flawlessly on lg but not on htc.
Even the game I'm developing runs as breeze on optimus and lags a bit on my wildfire.
I've tried killing all apps with taskmanager on wildfire but it did not help.
Any ideas on what could be making it slow? HTC sense perhaps?
I'm wondering should I just sell my wildfire and get an optimus (which unfortunately doesn't have led flash but has better display) or should I root my phone and just install cyanogen + setcpu to 650mhz?
I'm a Wildfire owner and I tried the P500 from one of my friend...It's much faster...I don't know why...also with CM the Wildfire is much slower than P500...

Do you have wildfire with CM? Have you tried overclocking it with SetCPU?
The wildfire doesn't have a gpu. The p500 has one, plus the faster processor equals the fact that the LG is faster and snappier.

Lol, have fun with your new phone . This is just my opinion, but I don't like LG phones in general xD. Also not many devs for the phone, but since you're not rooting or anything, that wouldn't be a problem.
You also shouldn't use a task manager/killer, that just makes the phone even more slower and use up more battery.
My little brother just got zte blade for xmas and it seems a lot better and it costs 100€ less! Anyway this is my first android so if underevoked would support froyo rooting and I could oc wildfire would be fine

that's not desire hd rom from htc....
it's sensation rom ported to desire hd and as you can see the dev said it's full of bugs right now.
it's alpha rom.
I'm working on a port for myself, there's a lot of development going on in those forums , but I'm sure this thread should NOT be here.
I think it realy shoud be porterd since i cant or shoud i say dont know how and htc dezire z is inferiror compared to our hd2

yeah same here guys whoever will be able to port this rom to the hd2 will be godly.. i put my money on imilka and mdj to be the first ones. Its not fair since the Desire HD's hardware is the same as the HD 2 BUT DIFFERENT OS and the deire hd gets it instead of us. Honestly i would trade CM7 and MIUI for that

metko, please do some research before posting BS like this - DZ is using scorpion core (second gen. snapdragon) running at 800MHz that IS way faster than first gen. snapdragon, even at 1GHz. Furthermore, both DHD and DZ have ardeno 205 gpu that is way faster than ardeno 200 present in first gen. snapdragons (like in HD2), so both devices have hardware that is superior to HD2.
...but we have the best devs here =P

Actually, porting is not that hard, but resolving the problems that appear after you port the ROM is another thing... I was gonna work on a personal port, but they seem to be making a lot of development over at the desire forums, so it's not worth porting until they're finished with it. Plus, tomorrow's Mother's Day, i need to do some shopping x)
Btw, you're right, this thread should be deleted ASAP
come on guys, please grow up! dont get into this bs fighting match about which hardware is better. take that to the general forum. all the first poster was requesting was that he'd like to see something like the new desire hd RCMix HD KINGDOM v0.1 Evolutionary Sense! REAL SENSE 3.0 to be brought over to the HD2. i'm sure devs are already working on it & i just can't wait till it arrives!!!
Anyways, I'm porting it and it's running through logcat right now. Looks promising, but no guarantees.

Got it running but removed it again. It just runs to slow on a Desire(on my Desire).
It's like driving cars in slow motion with 1 fps.
So I guess there's no point in trying this!
Thanks to all of you!
It's laggy as hell... Some shaman dances and magic spells seemed to increase fps from 1 to 5-6, yet still impossible to play)) Well, maybe Rockstar will concider optimizing GTA3 for single-core devices...
Sadly Desire can't play this game, its hardware just isn't powerful enough. Also installed it on GF Samsung Galaxy S2 and it works super smooth.
I download it now, it has 430mb, almost certainly it will be very laggy, same like Gameloft HD games.
yep did 2 missions but it ****es me up.. like the pre poster said 1fps its laggy and makes no fun to play it on the desire..

Yeah, i take back what i said before
It was smooth and all, for a bit, but after playing 15mins or so, the game begins to lag...
I tried OC to 1.5Ghz, but it doesnt make much of a difference
I'm on 1.0. I loaded 1.1, it works, but crashes after 5 minutes gameplay. I have to reboot my phone.
I don't see a performance inprovement in 1.1 tbh.
Watch a video of it on the Samsung galaxy tab 8.9 or ipad2 and you can see how liquid smooth it is!
There are higher graphics! You can see the headlights of cars, refelctions etc, seems much better and smooth!
Wonder how it holds up on the ipod touch4, it has 1ghz cpu and only 256mb RAM, less than your Desires. I saw on my Desire S, it takes up a hefty 153mb RAM when running!

Yep its time like these where I want October 2012 to come. Thats when I can get new phone lol But in saying that apart from gaming Desire still holds its own with even the big new phones. Who would of fort we can run sense 3.5 and now getting worked on ICS sense 3.5 time are still great, just not when playing some games lol.
I had less than 5 fps -.-'
It run smooth in the begining...
after entering the game.......
Everything change..........
slow...............
Desire is not suitable to play this...
Although there is some way to play it smooth (OC and chanfire), keep your desire to be long lasting
It lags very much. Desire's hardware is not enough for this game.
