[Q] All most there...but.. - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have gotten to the point that when I plug the Nook Color in the two drives show up. If I go to "Safely remove hardware" it sees the Nook. However if I access either of the "new" drives that relate to the Nook I get the message to install a disk. Additional information: Windows 7; adb device sees the Nook. HC on sd card and works fine. Bottom line is the computer sees the nook but will not access it.

Tap to turn on the USB Mass Storage on the NC.

You should be seeing new icons in the status bar when you connect the USB. Open up the status bar notifications and enter the USB Connected tab, in there turn on usb transfer and should be able to access the sdcard

When I plug in the USB I get the ding but no icon. I am going to replace the cable as it is now bent a little at the micro end. I live in the country but have reserved a new one to pick up tomorrow in town. Will try again and see what happens. Thanks.

connecting mytouch to pc

i cant see anything in windows explorer...it pops up with "please insert disk into drive e:"
what gives?
when i go to "safely remove hardware" it shows that this is indeed the android phone. what to do?
You should have a notification at the top of your phone (usb symbol). Drag it down and tap the USB connected bar, and tap Mount on the bottom. Your good to go.

Thanks. Im so used to windows 6...this is a nice change!

W7 PC won't see rooted NC anymore

I rooted my NC from 1.1.0 using autonooter awhile ago and it works pretty well in general. I used to be able to hook it up to my home PC (w7) and my work PC (XP) with no problems. ADB worked (usually), the drives showed up, etc.
Everything still works on the work PC, and another W7 PC I tried it on.
Now, for some reason, neither the NC nor its SD card show up on my home PC when I plug it in! The NC shows the normal "USB Mode" screen when I plug it in, and my PC makes the USB Ding sound. But no new drives show up.
The only thing I can think of that changed is around the time it stopped working, I replaced my old USB Card reader with a new one (old one didn't work with SDHC). I also renamed some drive letters to reorganize them, since the card reader always shows 4 drive letters in windows.
I don't see the USB controller entry for the NC that I used to see in Device Manager either.
Check for NookcolorUMS app
I was having some bizarre connection issues with my PC, too, and they seem to have been corrected (at least they haven't recurred) by using a USB extension cable. It makes no sense, and I didn't do it to attempt a fix, but just noticed that the issues seemed worst when plugging into the top-side 'convenience' USB ports, and had an extra extension cable sitting around, so I plugged that into a rear port to make access less awkward. Since then, the PC consistently mounts everything just like it should.
I'm still using the NC's data cable, just plugging it into a maybe 1' extension cable rather than directly in the slot.
my XP based computer won't see the rooted NC either, however I will have to try using a port on the motherboard as opposed to one of the front mounts and see if that does the trick. I just kinda gave up on it as I didn't really need it too bad (I only use my nook for email, web browsing, and to control my DVR).
Well I unrooted my NC as I had planned anyway to upgrade to 1.2, but the problem hasn't gone away.
I tried plugging into an extension cable I have that goes directly to a MoBo rear port, but no change.
I can't run the nookcolorUMS now that I'm unrooted. Maybe I'll try it when I re-root eventually.
The thing is, it works on every other computer, so I can't figure out why it would stop working on just this one. It seems like it must be a windows issue, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what it is.
I don't bother with usb
USB connectivity is so unreliable that I don't even bother with it.
To move files around I use File Expert/network to access the PC via wireless from the device.
It's easy, reliable, and FAST.

That's a good tip. Unfortunately you have to use USB for certain functions, like manual nooting, or synching with Calibre (I suspect).
Once I'm rooted again I'll probably start using wireless for small stuff, but if I'm moving a gigabyte movie over, I'm not sure how long that will take, or how much battery it will use.
Does anything come up in device manager when you connect it? If so, did you try deleting anything that does come up, disconnect and start over? Worth a shot....
You don't have to guess--if you see a USB device that might be the NC, open properties>details and from the dropdown choose "hardware ids." If the number 2080 is in the id, it's the NC.
Nothing new comes up in device manager when I plug it in. It used to...
I experienced a similar issue and this was what causing it.
1. I have 2 front USB connections (nothing connected to either)
2. External Power USB hub connected to a rear USB slot
On Win 7, whenever I plug-in the NC via USB, I got a device not recognize error. I tried plugging it into different ports and pretty much either got no detection or device not recognize. Here is the kicker, as soon as I plug it into the usb hub, window recognize and mount it right away. This also happen to be true if I remove the usb hub altogether.

cant transfer files

after flashing new cm10 when i plug my tab via usb into computer it only charges it, but it doesnt recognize it so i can transfer files. anyone know how to fix this?
settings>storage. Click on the three button icon in the upper right hand corner. Press "USB computer connection." Make sure Media Device (MTP) is checked. Go back and your pc should recognize it.

[Q] Help! LG E400 USB problems

Hi, I have been rooting and ROM-ing my LG E400 for a while now, and I have come across a problem.
It seems I have accidentally deleted my usb driver on my phone, so when I connect my phone to a computer it charges, but i cannot access the phone through the computer in any way.
Can anyone help???????
I think you can select what your phone has to do when connected to an USB somewhere in the settings. Make sure to let your phone connect as a media device, because that way it'll give you access to its internal and external SD card. Also, if you have a PIN/password lock screen, you need to unlock your phone after you plug it into the USB otherwise it won't give you access.

A problem with mtp enabling in EMUI 3.1

Hi everyone,
My mother is the owner of a Huawei P8. She used to use the phone as a second hard disk but lately she touched something (and she does not remember what) and the phone is set to charge only when connected to the PC.
At the moment when the phone is connected the computer neither the computer or the phone seem to recognize each other. I went through almost all the settings but couldn't find ANYTHING on how to make the computer react to the phone. Moreover in the developer options of the phone USB debugging is greyed out, totally inaccessible.
If possible I would like NOT to have to root the phone or do strange installations. Online the only kind of answer I found was that I have to do a hard reset of the phone. Is it true?
Thank you for your help and patience.
Best regards,
Vanja A. Mariani C .
When you connect the P8 to the computer, it will appear in the notification bar a mention to the USB connection.
It has a blue USB icon and it shows "Photos", "Files" and "USB unit" (or somewhat like that). There is an small text there that states "if you don't select any mode, the device will only charge". Probably your mother put accidentally her finger over the "Files" option and this notification works like a On/Off switch .
If you want to use it as an USB drive, just put your finger over "USB unit". This mode is like plugging a pendrive to your computer (apps on SD
card will force close). Alternatively, you can put your finger over "files", and the SD card will mount in MTP mode (slower, but doesn't close the apps).
See my screenshot (it's in spanish, but you will quickly see what I mean).
Cheers.

If im correct the solution is:
Deactivate Developer options and then reactivate it again.
Then the USB debugging option should work again.
