Tomorrow I Make The Leap Streak to NOTE

Hi Guys
Tomorrow I upgrade from Dell Streak 5 to Samsung Galaxy NOTE !
Bit unsure so please convince me I am 100% right doing this I am 99% sure
Love the Dell Streak hoping I am gonna love the NOTE even more for the next two years
Any Streak owners out there made the same move ?
I'm just waiting for the white Note to make an official appearance in the UK and then I'll be doing the same ... Trying to justify to myself that I need that extra 0.3 of an inch but the overall performance compared to the Streak and future android updates are the clinchers for me

been using dell for year, Note is much better, you won't be disappointed... dell is good, but note is a lot lighter and faster...
I had the Streak for a while and while it was good, the Note is a lot better in my opinion. You won't regret it.

I had the Streak and really loved it. I would flash every new Streakdroid rom that DJ Steve made. But it reached a point of diminishing returns where no matter how good the new ROMs were the device performance was not improving much. So I swapped it out for a Galaxy SII over the summer and didn't miss the size so much. But when I saw the Note I knew I had to have it. It is so much better than the Streak, faster, better screen, and I love the SPen. I can go into a meeting or seminar and take notes on the Note and not worry about carrying a separate notebook. Even though its not noticeably thinner than the Streak, it just feels better in your hand, mostly due to the difference in weight.
So, basically, my advice is to go for it. You will love the Note and not regret it for a moment.
+1 from the good old Streak camp

I owned a Dell Streak.
The Note takes everything to the next level performance wise. The screen alone is worth the leap.

The difference in physical screen size pales in comparison to the difference in resolution! IMO, the Streak should have been 1024x600, or qHD, at the very least.
Regards,
Dave
I'm also a refugee from streak land.
I loved the Streak, but was disappointed by Dell's lack of marketing and support.
My first 2 weeks with the note blow the streak out of the water. The screen is brighter and crisper. The UI is responsive and it seem likely that Samsung will support the device with updates for far longer than Dell.
The only downside so far is the touch wiz UI being aimed at portrait use only. I know other launchers will offer that option, but I've heard that they are a bit slower. When i get time, i will have to try them out.

Why my Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi P7510 still one of the BEST looking tablet on the market

Visiting a local Best Buy store checking the tablets, that's what I thought....

To be truthful, I have been disappointed with both Google and Samsung : Google has created unnecessary slump of the tablet app quality by introducing our awkward friend honeycomb ( although everyone reaped its benefit in ICS) and Samsung because its dropping support for tablet which is very capable of ruining job ( as I am on cm10). And here's the worst part, apple aces at both these factors ( since a lot of iPad apps and mostly a device is supported for 3-4 iOS release.)
So here's the situation, unless android takes control of the tablet market soon, Microsoft with their disturbing windows 8 would!
Thus until the 29th, android's fate is in balance

Completely agree. Tablet specific apps really need to start turning up. There's so many more iPad specific apps compared to android, it's hard to compare.
I like the looks of the Asus Transformers.
i agree with the op. the galaxy tab is a very nice tablet I'm glad I have it
I sold my iPad 2 for galaxy note 10.1 and am extremely happy with the tab.who says that screen is bad?it may not be as good as iPad 3 , in terms of display spec on paper, but it's very nice in reality. I too was very confused before I made the purchase , after reading some reviews. But I was satisfied after getting a demo, so I went ahead with my purchase, and am extremely happy.
But i luv Galaxy Note 10.1 n Asus Nexus 7

Weight
I also generally agree GT 10.1 looks/design are good, though I am not 100% satisfied.
But I think more important things about hardware are the weight, ergonomics for your hands, LCD quality, sound quality and so on.
I have an iPad 3, and it is very heavier than GT 10.1, ergonomics is just bad because if you hold it long your palm hurts due to its wedge like edges (GT 10.1 has rounded edges). Asus Transformer Prime's LCD was not as good as that of GT 10.1 in my opinion. iPad 3's speaker's sound was definitely louder and deep but it is mono.... GT 10.1 has stereo speakers...
Anyways, it is a shame that there are not major Android tablets to choose from. I was looking for Galaxy Tab 10.1 2, but it was a let-down. Galaxy Note 10.1 looks ugly... Nexus 7 was too small... Amazon Kindle Fire is not a real Android tablet... I am just waiting for the next big Android tablet from Samsung/Google or Sony.
PS: I do not like the design and LCD of Asus. Motorola, you are out of my choice, that's right I am a former Atrix user.
Galaxy Tab 10.1 Still Rocks
I just got done updating to pershoots 10/17 CM10 and fell in love with my tablet all over again. Aesthetically it's very minimalistic, which I Love. With support from dev's like pershoot it's still one of the best overall tablets on the market.
The only other tablet I liked as much was the Nexus 7 but more because of the power and over polish of the OS than the aesthetics. Bought a nexus 7 for the Fiancee and used it more than she did until she dropped it and broke the digitizer.
I'm looking forward to the nexus 10, samsung has great physical designs and I've learned that you can't beat a nexus device.

Time to say goodbye

fare thee well Zanakorus! What phone do you use now?
I still use my Xperia Play but at the moment my primary device is my Galaxy S3, I use that for everything but when I Get my Nexus 7 I think my Xperia play may be used less, Tether my S3 with unlimited data from Three and use that on my Nexus 7, the chances are my Xperia play will go back in its box for another few years until I decide to take it apart lol.
Pretty sad to see my first Android device that was actually decent (My Galaxy Ace just... sucked ) get unused, I just don't see a point in gaming on that anymore, its annoying keeping it charged, so I use my PS3 controller to play games on my S3, What device have you got now anyway? I was amazed on how smooth the Galaxy S3 is compared to my Xperia play
Atm i got new Lg p760 or L9. I got it for fre from my mobile operator.
Its not a speed demon but it has 4,7 inch display 960x540 dual core ti omap 4430 at 1ghz and powervr sgx 540. It runs realy smooth.
But i miss my xplay much. Sad thing such a great phone like xp was such underpowered.
If sony make xp succesor i will buy it for sure. Now my son is using xp.
Hehe his friends didin even know such phones exists. It looks like xplay is a rare toy.

Xperia Tablet Z vs Note 10.1(or any other tablet) comparison thread

Hi guys I was consider the idea of getting a tablet I would normally want a tablet as for media but I'm also a student so I came across note 10.1 and liked the s pen but recently I came across the xperia tablet z that is absolutely nice and it's a newer device the thing I'd that note 10.1 is a bit old and I'm don't want to throw a lot of money assuming the note successor will be very expensive, anyway right now there's a 50 dollars difference between the two wifi models in amazon so any suggestions?

MOD EDIT: Use this thread for your comparisons with any other tablet.Don't create new threads because they maybe get closed or deleted.
Thank you!
I recommend either buying the Tablet Z now or wait for successor to the Note 10.1. Unless you really need a tablet with an s pen now.

I think Samsung have a presentation for new stuff at June 10, they might show it there. The Note 10.1 is almost a year old now I think ?
/Edit: It's June 20. June 10 is Apple.
I'm a student, I've thought the same thing. Honestly what made me order the Xperia Tablet Z is the design. I can't stand Samsungs cheap plasticky design, and its UI is absolutely horrible. The S pen is the only reason to consider it, but when testing I learned that I can write just as fast with the swype-function on the Sony device.

It depends. Not everybody needs it. However, for me, multi-window is very interesting and have an edge when comparing to any other tablets (except Win8 Intel tabs, but you know, normal window's apps are not touch optimized)
I have had the Tab Z since Friday, and the Note 10.1 since it launched in the USA.
Tab Z without any hesitation... The S-Pen is neat at first, but gets to be "eh whatever" pretty quickly. Samsung's ****ty UI skin makes the tablet look ugly as ****, sound awful, and slows it down significantly. On top of that, if you're here on XDA, you probably care about development, and the Note 10.1 had next to no development for it, partly because Samsung didn't bother to comply with the GPL and released kernel source that didn't match what was running on the device at all. It took me two weeks to get a working wifi driver on source-built kernels.
If you care about CyanogenMod at all - the choice is obvious. All of the former Exynos4 CM maintainers are mostly retired from Exynos4 work, and I can tell you, of the two Note 10.1 maintainers, one (espenfjo) is currently retired from CM work, and the other (myself) has barely touched the unit in 2-3 months. Meanwhile, two of the four former Exynos4 maintainers have the Tablet Z, and a few other CM maintainers do too, with more likely to come.

I agree with your points of view. I'm also quite interested in future development and I hope more and more devs get the Tablet Z. Entropy, I think I've read in the XTZ AOSP forum (CM 10.1 thread, specifically) that you might check the CM port for our WIFi-only devices, am I right? :fingers-crossed: I hope I am. Pretty much only LTE support for now.

Sorry by N10 I meant NEXUS 10 rather than Note
I think the Note is probably powerful enough but has a low res screen, something like the transformer infinity has the resolution but Tegra 3 doesn't cut it at 1080p.
Both the Nexus 10 and Tablet Z are powerful with high res screens.
New Transformer with Tegra 4 is announced now, which is probably more powerful than both and has similar res to the Nexus 10.
..
Asus is crazy today, I have to say that. All of their offers are crazy (for specs or for price).
The new Asus Infinity
http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/03/a...-pad-infinity/
Display: 2560x1600
SoC: Tegra 4
4K HDMI + USB 3.0 port
Price: $399 (Tablet) $499 (Tablet + Dock)
The new Asus Memo Pad FHD 10 inch
http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/03/a...d-10-hands-on/
Display: 1920x1200
SoC: CloverTrail+ 2x1.6GHz
Price: Unknown, but given the price $399 of new Asus Infinity and there are two versions 16 and 32 gigs, I guess it will be $250 and $300 (the MemoPad HD 7 inch is $150)
I think Sony faces the payoff of delaying its Tablet Z. These two tablets are so powerful. The new Asus Infinity has better specs in any area with the same price but having a excellent dock (which many love). The MemoPad's specs are not far from Tablet Z (better CPU with less power consumed, weaker GPU), the possibility of installing normal Windows 8 due to Intel CPU, and the price should be much more sweet.
I have three Asus tablets (tf101, tf201, tf701), and I know their issues (stupid update, bad build quality, and something special issues of each tablet) and swear not to buy another one, but as I said, these offers above are two sweet, and I think Asus has the experience to pass some stupid things like cheap NAND (which make horrible I/O on my tf701) or wifi.
What do you think?
Click to collapse
O think the prices are very interesting but as you say asus doesn't give me the confidence of Sony, indeed the infinity has better specs but I think their updates will be even worse than Sony, besides tablet z's design is nicer although I think they need to lower the price to be able to compete as Toshiba has also launched two powerful devices

I would wait for the next model of whatever Sony got, I know ppl keep saying better hardware come out every time in 6 months but, their new DUO 13 is TRILUMINOS display, looks like all their flagship products from this point forward are all TRILUMINOS.

MobileTechReview comparison of XTZ and N10
Lisa Gade, who I've noticed visiting these forums, has a nice comparison between the XTZ and the Nexus 10. It's pretty consistent with my own impressions: N10 is a great value and pure Android; XTZ has more bells and whistles and appeals to people (like me) who put a premium on things like weight...

I would kill for a 7" Sony Tablet

Would you not kill for one of these??

I really love 7" tablets, cant stand 10"...too big
"I would want it to be waterproof for reading in the bath, and seeming I don't use the ports on my tablet I wouldn't have to worry about the finicky charging flaps that compromise the waterproof ability of my phone. I would like induction charging as well. A full 1080p screen with 440dpi would be a must a long with a 1.5ghz quad core processor with companion core for downscaling and the latest NVIDIA Tegra chipset for you know...my intense Angry Birds gaming marathons. Camera's could be VGA and I wouldn't care, I am not a camera persona and only recently have I started using front facing cameras in hangouts."
i've been so on and off with 7' tablets ... half of me loves the ipad minis size .. the other half loves the amount of real estate of a 10'

I can't stand 10 inches either. they are too big ;D
but seriously, a 7 inch xperia tablet would be nice
still rocking nexus 7 but if sony come out with 7in i'm jumping ship
i can't stand 10inches.
its too painful.
it causes tears in my vaginal walls.
few years ago when iPad flooding the market, i highly regretted inche size of tablet but most of remarks i ve heard
''7'' is way to small, 10'' fits perfect''
then later Nexus 7, iPad Mini become popular and now everyone wants it
i didnt change my mind and still believe 7/8'' fits perfect for tablet owner
what's the sense of 7" ?
it's a little bigger than a 5" smartphone (like the z), but way smaller than 10 inches. what's the (big) advantage of having a 7" tablet compared to a 5" smartphone?
it's like you're having an everyday-car with 180 HP, and if you wanna go on the race track, you'll take the one with 190 HP (instead of the one with 300)

ok, so this is a possible advantage compared to a 10" tablet.
but where's the (big) advantage in comparisson to a 5" smartphone?
to me it seems that there's no big difference in using a 5" smartphone or a 7" tablet (e.g. like you said on the airplane), but it's a lot of difference using a 5"/7" and 10".
so, owning a 5" smartphone and a 7" tablet means owning 2 medium-scale devices. owning a 5" smartphone (or a 7" tablet) means owning a small device and a large device.
i still don't get the point, why anyone owning a 5" xperia z wants a 7" xperia tablet z.

there is a big difference IMO, 5'' fits in your pocket, not a 7'' tablet
over 5'', you see a noticeable display feeling, trust me, Galaxy Note 2 is huge in comparison of XZ, howver its only about 0,5 inches of size
smartphone becomes step by step bigger and bigger, tablet on the contrary will decrease size's screen
in near future, phablet will flood the market

I think you are underestimating how much 2 inches reflect when it comes to screen sizes. Look at old BB devices with 2.5in screens and how they compared with 4in devices, take a 4in screen and put it next to the 5in of the Z...and taht is only 1in difference there. I did as I had a LG O2x 4in when i got my Z.
dm;hs?
2inches is quite the difference especially for a handheld device

He's right. People tend to forget that the inches are measured diagonal not horizontal or vertical.
For example, four 2 inch screens fit in a 4 inch screen. And not two as most people think or imagine when picturing how large the phone would be.

Actually I think 8-inch is a better idea
Lets see .. if Sony Makes A Tablet Z 7 inch it would be named Tablet ZR , Light as the note 2 , Thinner Than Tablet Z like 6.0~ !!!! , IT would be mega impressive if sony could do this. We'll all want to find out SONYS SECRET OF MAKING SUCH A THING
Hi, just jumping into the discussion. I would also support the idea or a smaller tablet - in the end I would be happy with 7 or 8, doesn't matter
