Battery cover durability - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Coming from a mytouch 4g (which as a metal cover) I was a bit concerned about that flimsy looking plastic thing on the Galaxy note:
But I found this video - it's for the Galaxy s2, but safe to assume the Note's cover will be just as good, or better:

Nice.

Polycarbonate not plastic after all

reading through a recent post in phone arena, it looks like the rear cover on the phone is polycarbonate, and not plastic. it is glossy rather than matte, so that is the only difference with the HOX.
no more arguing about the quality of product that samsung is putting out there then, right?
Google what poly carbonate is.
Then close this thread.

Polycarbonate is a durable plastic used for aeroplane windows, bullit proof glass and power tools. It is highly impact resistant but not very scratch resistant. It looks and feels like most other kinds of solid plastic.
And it is used for CDs and DVDs and everything else needed a bit more resistance against scratches bur bulletproof smartphone sounds better than - cd-plastic smartphone xD
(i'm not a samsung hater xD will buy s3 when it is released , just wondering why all are using this examples for polycarbonate xD)
And y - Polycarbonate is plastic, same material like the back of htc one x, they just used a different finisch to give it a more resistant feeling, but all at all it was clear that it will polycarbonate, but HTC knows most users are stupid and will think that its something very special to the htc one series that the back is "SO STRONG" xD....

No, the polycarbonate is not there because of scratch resistance. It has two layers to protect it from scratches.
Polycarbonate is a very durable material. Although it has high impact-resistance, it has low scratch-resistance

This is probably also a reason why Samsung has coated it on the S3 apart from making it more shiny..

The purpose of this thread is to clarify the TYPE of plastic used, and to confront those people who keep on repeating that its made out of plastic to downgrade the quality of material, whilst at the same time praising HTC One X for it's build quality.
Funny how HTC One X IS made out of the same material, polycarbonate, yes a form of plastic but THE SAME in the 2 phones, therefore no reason to say one is bad cause its 'plastic' and other isnt, cause both are made from the same.
However, its the matte appearance of the One X that makes it stand out and all of the reviewers fell for that at first instance, critising the S3 as having less quality materials for it's build.
Overgeneralising in your post, is not healthy!
Dupe of this thread.
Please search before posting, thank you.

Ultra thin 0.3mm cases, any experiences?

I'm looking for something that feels nicer than the greasy chrome sides and textured pokey back that is thin and is mainly there to make the phone feel nice in the hand, not for protection. Anyone have experiences with these 0.3 mm covers? I don't really know what type of material it is, how it feels like, how rigid or soft/flexible it is, whether there's a lip or not, etc. There are a lot of ultra thin covers on ebay but I dunno if they are all the same or not. Was also wondering if anyone has a clear one, if it just looks like a condom or not. I have a brushed metal back cover that I want to show through okay, otherwise if it looks like a condom I'll just get a blue one altogether.

I'm using the black one (and used it on my previously owned Galaxy SII i9100): it protects very well against scratches and my Note looks sexy as hell in all black fashion :good: (and yeah, chrome bezels have bored me too )
Go for it mate!
love it..using it.
yeah those are awesome. Ordered one via ebay and use everyday! Half year ago, a reddish one not dirty ugly yet. Dont expect protection other then scratches though.

Yeah sorry I've been posting in the accessories forum but for some reason this thread wound out here: I want to know if it is hard case hard or is it semi soft and semi flexible like TPU cases. Also does it get hot? I know TPU cases are good with not heating up. My note is a hot potato in the back (and the front) and I don't like holding a hot potato. I am missing the soft polycarbonate feel of my one xl, and it never heated up during use, nice and cool.
lol I feel more space between hardcase and softcase. Hardcase seems cooler.
I threw my hardcase away because the softcase is nice and snug. Extra thin, flexible, more grip, but thats personal. Perfect!
Heat, with proper kernel/rom/usage its not an issue for me

Those thin cases do not stop any heat. Less material to absorb heat. Tpu and silicone are best for heat absorption. I would suggest using setcpu to stop the heating. You can set profiles to slow the cpu when the battery gets above a certain level. Heat is very bad for lithium batteries. Best to stop it now before you have terrible battery life.
I use one of these.
Pros - Protects back/bezel from scratches, doesn't make the phone too big in the hand, nice cut outs for the buttons, spen etc.
Cons - No or very little drop protection, edges of screen are not covered.
I also have one of the thicker TPU ones that covers over the edge of the screen and offers pretty good drop protection, but it make the phone a little too big making it tricky for one handed operation.

Curved edge screen?

Honestly the S3 was so annoying with it's curved edges and trying to find a good screen protector with a good fit. I do not like wet application ones so I was stuck with dry apply ones that never covered the entire screen. So to anyone who may know are the edges of the screen curved?
they don't seem to be, from what I've seen. I've taken note of this too, i didn't care for the curved look. the s4 seems to be flat all the way across

Pretty much this.
On several hands on video you can see clearly that there's a metal trimming around the edges.

Yeah I saw that but the S3 also has a trim just not raised like that... And I haven't seen a picture with the perfect angle to say absolutely... Though now that I see Spigen has their Glas.T and Glas.TR posted im thinking that's a good sign
Sent from my GS3
On my sample, there is a very small gap (few mico-meters) between the metal ring (real metal this time) and the glass
Additionally, the glass does not cut, so it seems to have a round edge on a few micro-meter (not milli-meters, definively not like S3). It's all the same with HTC Desire for example, so you should not have any problem with glass protection.
My camera doesn't do good macro mode, so I can't show you properly, and as we have a month to go, mechanics might also change a little. But it's not like S3, you can go with screen protections.
I use to have this problem too. From all the videos and photos i trying to notise,S4 seems to be all the glass flat so we wont have this problem!

No what I mean is that I have seen platic oem parts (middle frame assembly) but I am looking for a metal one.
Its not just a simple bezel as you can see from this
https://www.replacebase.co.uk/samsu...-chassis-bezel-assembly-silver-original-5110/
Instead of buying a metal frame and dismantle your phone which is hard to do. Why not just buy a chrome spray, cover the front and back and repaint the bezels? I'm pretty sure that's alot easier and safe.

This is impossible, nobody makes a metal replacement part for that. You could get a metal bumper case but those mess up cell reception and GPS. Just get an s6 lol

RhinoShield CrashGuard Bumper

Anyone using this bumper on the Note 10+? I've had the bumper on other phones and it's worked fine, but from what I've seen on a couple YouTube vids it looks like it fits very loose in the middle on the Note 10+.

Believe it. I have and it's a little annoying. Still sexy though.
I have used this bumper-only protectors, and yes, they look really cool, but, with these cristal back devices, a back film protector is really necessary
How about the shock resistance?
I have the spigen tough armor but the lips on the front seems not enough in case of a front impact.
I just tried one of these bumpers… not good, really, looks nice, but the sides feel loose

On a double impact drop or back plant I wouldn't trust it.
You know at times the 10+ seems bent on flying but seldom lands gracefully and sometimes bounces around before that last thud.
I like 2 layered systems, 3 layers if in the clip case. Otterboxes where always a pain but gave good impact protection.
My favorite for the 10+ remains the Zizo Bolt case. Only downside is no charging port cover. In practice (except for one rain drop) this hasn't been an issue.
Great drop protection and relatively slim/light, very easy to hold, looks great. The second layer of hard polycarbonate keeps the inner urethane layer in place holding it tight to the vulnerable corners in impacts.
The case is the last layer that makes it an "Active" phone. These phones need a good case...
I bought the Solid Suit and it is awesome. I got a real problem dropping phones, and the Note 10+ wasnt an exception.
I have dropped about 5/6 times and it still rocks like a champion.
Trust me, before this a have used various brands on diferent phones and this is the best.
I Like UAG plasma series cases, I use them since my note 7, I find them very protective and pleasant looking, specially the ice color ones, I recently bought a ghostek atomic slim, polycarbonate back, tpu edge liner and outer aluminum frame, absolutely outstanding with my aura glow note 10+, it does not interfere with signals in any way
