Is there a way to tether/create hotspot on the focus with the Mango update? I did see something in another thread about how it may be carrier specific(this is for At&t)
Any insight would be appreciated
If you are unlocked (developer/chevron), you can.
AT&T will not provide you the tethering ability, but some other carriers will.
However not now and certainly not for first generation phones (Omnia7, Focus, HD7 etc).

I am a US At&T customer and wanted anyone opinion of the LG E900 on the AT&T network. I don't want to upgrade or change my data plan but I do want this phone.
1. Does this phone support 3G on AT&t in US (specifically CA)
2. Does WP7 support tethering yet? Is there a hack for tethering.
3. Does this phone have NO-DO yet?
4. Will this phone get Mango?
5. Love my HD2, but want to try WP7. What user experiences can you talk about
6. Anything I should know before purchasing this phone?
Thank you very much!!!!
KJ
I cannot help you with 1 and 2 unfortunately, hope someone else will.
3. Yes.
4. Yes, and there's simple hacks around to help you install the Mango beta right away if you can't wait.
5. I was an Android user since 1.5, and I've also had iPhones in the past. The WP7 user experience is simply better unless you cannot live without some kind of application that isn't available in WP7.
6. At that price, it's definitely a great purchase, not much more to say
1. If this is truly the Canadian/Mexican version of the E900 which is the E900h it will work with AT&T as they use the same bands.
2. Yes there is a hack for tethering it is posted on this forum too, I am not too sure if your career will charge you for it though.
Thanks all. Been enjoying my device. Still want to tether, navigation, SSID hidden and some way of managing data usage but really enjoying my wp7 experience.
Does anyone know if this phone supports AT&T hsdpa+ in USA. I have seen G, E, 3G, H but what speed is the H?
thanks again. Mango or bust!

So I see that it is possible to unlock cdma Android phone for other carriers but I am wondering you can do it with the WP7 devices, I don't want the Arrive because of the keyboard. I am just curious so any help would be appreciated. Sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum but I thought this would be a development question.
63 views and no replies, I guess I will write this off and wait until Sprint releases new WM7 phones, they are supposedly looking at the fall.
There are some listings on eBay purporting to sell unlock codes for the HTC Trophy. Some have already sold and the buyers have left positive feedback for the seller indicating success. Here (link) is the one I found, and I have no affiliation with the seller, eBay, etc. and cannot speak if this is legitimate or not. But apparently, it is possible.
Sprint as of current, will not allow any non Sprint branded phones on to their network. Even if you unlock the device, if it is not Sprint branded, and the ESN is not in their database, they will not allow it on their network.
I just don't get why people would prefer to have the SparkW (VZW Trophy) on Sprint vs the GoldC (HTC Arrive). The Arrive is made out of a nice metal, feels just like a Touch Pro2 but nicer... and its screen is only ever so slightly smaller then the Trophy. The Trophy, I got that thing in a tank of a case just so I know its in my pocket (I HATE small phones).
If anything I can't understand why Verizon didn't get GoldC or ask for a "GoldW" variant with World phone...
@MyNamesTheDoctor's You can't swap Sim cards to Sprint, Sprint is CDMA and doesn't use SIM cards. Due to Sprint's policies.... well.. only an illegal option is available to put the phone on Sprint.
Putting GoldC onto Verizon could probably be done legally, with a custom rom with Sprint software installed, and passing it threw Verizon's program to get the ESN/MIED added to their database... if they still do that. I can't wait for LTE to be the standard, then we won't have these issues with phones and everyone can have a SIM card.. and porting can be done with a simple unlock.
This really should be in Q&A though.

If AT&T was worth a damn where I live, I would be back on them. They have poor coverage here though, so I am almost forced to use Verizon, which works wonderfully I have to say.
For me, Verizon has the best voice service in the area... while AT&T covers the area slightly better, Verizon has 3G data EVERYWHERE (they are 100% 3G), while AT&T has HSPA+ only closer to to Erie, and 1X in the rest of northwest PA.
Hi all
I have an Legend AT&T that I bought on Amazon last fall.
The fact that it is AT&T branded means it demands that I have an AT&T data plan in order to use WiFi tethering. This is annoying to say the least since up here in Iceland we have no AT&T. I have contacted HTC and they confirm the phone is open and onlocked. AT&T customer support tried its level best to assist me in "unlocking" the phone with out success.
Can anyone tell me how I can get out of this predicament. I also have an ASUS Transformer that I was hoping to connect to the internet with the ATH Legend.
This restriction also means that I can not get updates for the phone since it wants to connect to AT&T for all that.
Please help.
Olafur.
WTF are you trolling or something? You're probably also one of the unluckiest people on Earth as AT&T (US) never ever released the HTC Legend. It was rumoured: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/04/htc-legend-coming-to-atandt-according-to-fcc/ , but never.
I'm sorry, but can you try telling us what you did to try and resolve this issue? Most importantly, what interactions did you do with any Icelandic carrier to reproduce the problem? Posting any error massages (EDIT: messages*), or more stories about what you tried to do would definitely help.
Nevertheless, I'm going to try and dissect a problem from your post. You want to activate HTC's Wi-Fi Hotspot. You can't get any updates for the phone. Put those two issues together and you end up with Android 2.1 Eclair. I want you to confirm for me that you have that (Home > MENU > Settings > About Phone). Because if you do, and if I remember correctly, back when we had the Legend on 2.1, and were harassing violently HTC for a Froyo update, we never had Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality unless we rooted.
That's all I can gather from the information provided.
Do me a favour, check at your phone's box and tell me what model your Legend is. Is it A6366, A6363, or A6365? If it's A6366, you have an HTC Aria, not a Legend, and it's a phone NEAR-IDENTICAL to the Legend that was sold down south in the United States on AT&T.
I also have another ridiculous AT&T theory. See, Americans down there sometimes refer to AT&T as Ma Bell or whatever. Bell, (Ignoring the "Ma") could stand for Bell Canada, the carrier IN THE COUNTRY BORDERING THE UNITED STATES that actually carried the HTC Legend. Yeah, it's ridiculous, but who knows? Your Amazon dealer, I'm sceptical of his service now.
Lastly, I'd just love for you to know that whether that phone came originally from Bell in Canada, or AT&T in the States, it won't work on Iceland's 3G bands. Even if you manage to resolve this issue, you won't be able to run on 3G networks. Only the newer HTC devices (starting with Sensation, I believe) are able to run all 3G frequencies around the world (except the Canadian + American AWS bands, only the HTC Amaze can do that). So if you ever manage to get Wi-Fi Hotspot running, you may only use it on 2G EDGE or GPRS, which is painfully slow to browse the internet. You could probably ad-hoc with your Transformer or something, but that's beyond my help.
Good luck!
Love, Bryan from Canada

HTC Inspire
Hi. For some reason my reply seems to have gotten lost. I will repeat.
In the interest of simplicity I called the phone mine, it is my wife's so I do not have it with me. You are absolutely right, this is not HTC Legend, it is HTC Inspire. The OS is version 2.2.2 (I am more or less sure) and because of no AT&T account none of the software that came with it can be updated. The phone does have the WiFi hotspot option but when I select it the phone complains that I must have AT&T data plan and leaves it at that. It does switch the WiFi off even if it can't activate the Hotspot. So, the option is there but she can't use it to connect her Transformer to the net. This is a really strange shortcoming. Why would AT&T care about what plan she has? Without the Data Plan she would just have to pay dearly. That would just be her desicion.
We have done nothing to get the phone to work. It connects to Icelandic carriers without a problem (yes, 3G as well) and without errors of any kind. I did assume the phone was locked when I turned it on for the first time and purchased an unlock code. That code I never used since there was not unlocking required.
I am not sure what you mean by "trolling".
Thanks,
Ólafur
Ok considering your situation you should root it. The process is very simple. It's a one click root.

Here's a video to help: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...m6DWCA&usg=AFQjCNEDETg2nq8rDBQWfKvlh9APF40fiw
It will root, unlock, install clockwork mod recovery, and superuser.
After that flash a rom. I will say I use the Rom called "Android Revolution HD 6.3.1" and can hotspot when ever I want, even without the AT&T account.
Video for that is here: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...4dTCCA&usg=AFQjCNE6rGAT6Z8pN9omO8UshYbzAup5cQ
As always I take no responsibility if you brick your device, or if you damage your device in anyway. Hope I helped.
HTC Inspire.
Thank you very much. I will root the phone.

Just a FYI for the hotspot to to work you will need a new Rom. But as I stated in my post above, I use Android Revolution HD. It's a very good Rom. Please if I helped, hit the thanks button.

Yes, avoid any ATT branding with any new ROM you choose. For future reference, use the dedicated HTC Inspire/Desire HD forums here on XDA to assist others, assist in development, or seek assistance.

I have Verizon unlimited data. I'm currently using a LG G4 with the hotspot provisioning hack. It works great but would like to upgrade to the USA G7 unlocked SM-G935UZSAXAA.
I DO NOT WANT TO USE FOXFI!!.
Does anyone know if there's a way to use the native hotspot on the unlocked Samsung G7 Edge SM-G935UZSAXAA?
I'm not sure what they mean by unlocked. Is the bootloader unlocked and I could run Cyanogen, etc. or another ROM that has NATIVE hotspot provisioning enabled without paying the extra fees to Verizon. My G4 works great. FoxFi uses at least 4X the battery life and the phone gets very hot. And some things just won't work on a private proxy.
Thanks,
-Joe
The unlocked doesn't have anything to do with the bootloader. It strictly means that the phone isn't tied to any carrier, but has every US carrier band (CDMA, GSM, all the LTE stuff, etc.), so you can easily switch between carriers.
In terms of hotspot/tethering, I can't give you an answer on that yet as I just ordered my GS7E Unlocked a few minutes ago. I'm also a Verizon users but I haven't had unlimited data in a while. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will weigh in and provide a better answer.
Hello, I am well aware of the fact that you can flash the international firmware on a T-mobile branded device. However, is it possible to flash the t-mobile firmware on the international version of the phone? If it is indeed possible are there any benefits to doing this? Such as RCS, or USCC roaming? Maybe even better reception? Any help would be great. I am genuinely just curious. Thank you.
From what I can see, there would only be disadvantages. TMo has suffered another data breach, see here, and they are at least 1 month behind the general releases for non TMo OP devices (I really only looked at the 6T for that evidence)
I recommend saving your time and not researching that further, but if you wanna, go for it.
