Hi guys. First time posting here. I have a Samsung Epic 4g and I was wondering if there are any roms out there that will get me to a stock Froyo condition. I am not interested in any themes or any extras, just plain old android. Basically, I want my phone to act as if it were a Nexus One. Please advise.
There is a Froyo leak that is going around currently. However, if you really want to make it look like the nexus one, follow these steps.
1. Look in the development section, there's a guide on how to flash froyo.
Next, download Launcherpro and Desktop Visualizer.
The launcher is similar to the nexus ones launcher.
Next, download some nexus one icons online, and use the desktop Visualizer. Its in the widget section and use the first option. The steps are pretty straight forward. Hope this is what you were looking for!
You won't get it exactly like the nexus one anyway due to a different processor btw

Thanks for the reply. However, I should say, I am not looking for a Nexus One look. I am looking for stock android. I have used Launcher pro before... I can't exactly agree with you that it looks like the stock Froyo launcher however. I have disabled the Touchwiz launcher though and am using the stock Froyo launcher. Honestly, I just want a true Google device with no bull on it. Thanks.
We dont have a 100 percent aosp rom.

What is ASOP?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
AOSP is android open source project. The straight code from google with no carrier changes.

Will I be able to root the device and then remove certain touchwiz elements?

OK, so my wifes MT4G arrived today, and I had it rooted and S-off after a remarkably short time. I then tried to do some research on the pre-installed apps, and which ones are safe to remove. I'm guessing most are OK to remove, but I'm surprised at the lack of info I've been able to find...
Are the apps tied into the framework, or can I just kill without fear? Not sure how T-Mo weave their tangled web...?

Everyone is going to tell u to search there r threads on here that will give u info

The fastest way to remove the cruft is just load Ice Glacier is you want to stick with sense UI. That's nearly the only difference it has from stock; crap pre-uninstalled.
Thanks Kline, I'll take a look...

Hey all, I've been a long time lurker here, as my girlfriend had an android phone that I rooted (Samsung Galaxy 3 Apollo 5801)..
Now the time has come for me to get in on the Android bandwagon with a Play!
I have done much searching on the net and on this forum, but to no avail.
Is it possible, with LauncherPro, for the screen to lock when you slide the phone down?
So you slide open the gamepad, and the screen unlocks, but then you can't get portrait without closing the gamepad again. Ideally I'd want to be able to make it portrait without closing the gamepad, but when you do close gamepad, the screen locks again?
I would love to see this, it would make it more sexy ;-)

I would like to see this as well...... will i need an unlocked bootloader to use launcher pro?
no you don't need an unlocked boot loader for launcher Pro
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Do you think we would need a custom Rom for this feature or just root?
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App
I would say, at my best guess, it would require the launcher to be changed. Either launcherPro, or the default sony ericsson one. Probably doubtful for both however
I'm thinking the slider is recognised as a key. Maybe it could be remapped

Anyone try using Tasker?
Thread title says it all. What do you like? What do you hate?
For me, I'm generally very happy with it. I love the speed and responsiveness as compared to Honeycomb. I love the ICS user interface as well. It isn't all that different from Honeycomb, granted, but it's the little things. I love the page transition effect on the app drawer, the Roboto font is much more readable, and I love being able to swipe away notifications. Honestly, the notification swipe is one of the only things I truly missed about running CyanogenMod in years past. Did I mention I love being able to run Chrome finally?!
As for things I don't like...mainly aesthetics. I'm annoyed that it didn't come with the default ICS "Phase Beam" live wallpaper, but it's alright. I just ganked it from a deodexed stock Galaxy Nexus ROM and it installed fine on the Xoom. Ditto for the "Adara" notification sound.
How about you?

Meh so far. To me battery is worse, 3g signal seems worse, pulse lags just as much.
Need to root and go to an OC'd ics rom.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
Pulse lag is most likely the app. At first, I actually thought battery life was better but now that a week has gone by, it actually seems the same for me as it was on Honeycomb...and for me, the new radio seems better, though admittedly I live in a 4G market so I'm not sure how the 3G reception is vs. Honeycomb.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk 2
Radio is definitely better for me. Batt life seems marginally better, too, though I'm back on EOS nightly since they have the new radios... def improved batt, with all the addtl features and smoothness EOS brings.
I wish it didn't try to launch an app every time I put it in a dock. There are dock controls in Settings on my Galaxy Nexus but not this?

nice update all around
Unrooted to check it out but ended up rerooting , going back to EOS nightly. Because of the EOS extra settings and customization.

Stock browser crashes all the time if I request desktop version of websites, or if I use google image search desktop version and open more than 4 tabs.
Otherwise, runs good, better 4g connection, and I am a little more than pissed Verizon didnt include SMS/MMS with the ICS upgrade.
I still haven't gotten it. Wth?

I just installed this app called Docktor, which cancels the launching of an app every time your dock your Xoom, since it bugged me too!
Instead it just gives you a little pop-up so that your default is overridden.
Hope this helps; it certainly got rid of my annoyances
I eventually came back to stock because I wanted to be able to watch google play movies. Plus the app I Ned to use no longer required root to work. I am enjoying the ota quite a bit and have noticed my battery life extended quite a bit from EOS 2.0

That would be why. Are you rooted?

I am liking my stock xoom way more than I thought. Honestly with ice cream sandwich I am needing less and less to try out new roms. And with stock I am getting better battery life than with EOS or cm9. Please don't think I am taking anything away from those two groups of developers. They have my upmost respect.

You have to be running Android 3.2.6 HLK75H in order to update to 4.0.4. It's odd that you didn't get an update to 3.2.4 or 3.2.6...Is your boot loader unlocked? Do you have a custom recovery installed?

I was on CM9 but completely restored my Xoom to stock because non of the 4.0 custom roms would work with my Xoom. Its like no matter what rom I was on something hardware related would always malfunction. As of now it is locked and back to stock but aprently stuck at 3.2.2.

Just to make sure, you ARE using a Verizon 4G LTE Xoom and not a Verizon 3G CDMA or non-Verizon model right?
Since the DX is pretty old now are there any dev's still making new ROMS for this device? Also what are you currently running ROM/Kernel wise?
Developers are very active with the Droid X.
On mine, I am running MIUI v4.

GrapeGum Gummy Kang with Apex launcher. Purple color removed of course.
Its the closest you can get to a pure Google OS such as the galaxy nexus.
i'm running the APEX rom...i'm pretty sure my version is outdated because i haven't paid much attention to my phone since moving into the tablet world.

Take a peek at Gummy 1.2.0 ICS rom. You will not be disapointed. I would use the release from goo manager. You can get it on another forum as well.

Stock ROM. It has its issues, but I've heard of worse.

I've tried most of the ICS ROMs for the Droid X. I really like them, but my battery life isn't as good as stock with them. Of course the 2 year old battery is about done for anyways. I'm stock .605 rooted right now. It's my fall back, safe ROM.
Running cm9 with the cm9 kernel works like a charm!

I had tried a couple then loaded Vortex Reloaded. Battery life is really good and everything I need works. It's given new life to my old phone.
CM9, working fine! Anyone know if a JB from will come out?

Once the source code is released, developers will probably start work on porting it.
My guess is it shouldn't be incredibly difficult for them, since it's just an incremental update.

i'm using wizard's miui DefX 2012.5.12 and it's really all i need on the droid x. insane battery life. smooth. call/sms and data blocking built-in. bootmenu. stable as none other. flashed beats audio and PDroid zip for extra privacy. i remember getting 3 and half days off this rom on one charge, stock battery, and with medium use. crazy.
So can these be loaded from rooted .621? Or am I stuck now that I took the OTA (even though I kept root)?

Also running LiquidICS. Best ICS rom I have run so far, although it looks like CM9 is pushing ahead nicely.
