We have now some wm5.0 devices and exchange sp2 is out - still waiting for the MSFP.
What new features of SP2 we can use without MSFP. I just found out that only task synchronisation with exchange is working now.
Anybody found out what else?
Hi mobileprofi
WM5+E2k3 SP2 adds task, photo on contacts and better sync compression. The rest of the goodies we will have to wait for, my money is on jan-feb but I would be happy to get it before christmas

Dont hold your breath there, or u will end up a funny shade of blue of purple
The Windows Mobile / MSFP website says that devices and upgrades for MSFP will be available from OEM's etc early next calendar year.
I have also asked i-mate the question of when they plan to release the update. They have responded early 2006 so i guess bthey are waiting for Microsoft to complete it. i-mate has also stated that it will be available as a complete ROM update for WM 5.0.
Regards,
Chris
I took a webinar on the new features in E2k3SP2 and asked specificaly of the presenter if this update would only be available from the OEM vendors.
His response (I am paraphrasing):
Microsoft does not want folks to not get a WM5 device because they are waiting for the new feature pack. Therfore they are going to offer it as a free download on the Microsoft website for folks who already have WM5 devices. In the first quarter of next year it will begin shipping on the ROM from the OEM providers.
The way he said it, it sounded like we may be able to get this before the end of the year (there is an existing beta program already underway).
Thank god for that. Have just found out that my provider did a quiet update to SP2, and am straining at the bit to get Push email! Bring it on...
I really hope microsft do post the update, the wording on the website did make me think otherwise though
If you click the link below, at the very bottom right you will see what i mean.

I'm upgrading my works Exchange Server to SP2 next week so it would be great to get my hands on the feature pack before next year
Later,
Chris
Sorry but you will find that Microsoft IS (100% guaranteed) leaving it up to the OEMs to ship (or not) the MSFP around Feb/Mar 2006.
The MSFP will be released as a ROM update by each of the respective OEMs (i.e. HP, XDA, i-Mate etc).
I do agree, MS is leaving it up to the OEM to include in the ROM.
On the flip side, the MS dude I talked to who was on the team making the code said that MS will offer it as a download for existing WM5 device owners so that they can have the same functionality as the new (updated ROM) devices.

Not really sure what the MS dude means. But the ROM is flashable and the MSFP will be incorporated into a new ROM (called upgrade because its a never version than the prior  ) So existing WM5 device owners will have to flash their device when the update is available. Devices bought after jan/feb/march will already have this version preloaded but the will ofcourse have the ability to upgrade the ROM when a never version is available. Definition ROM (Read Only Memory) confuses it a bit?
No one would be happier than me if MSFP would be available as a separate component but since security is in the picture and its tightly coupled with the OS I can understand if do it this way.
Perhaps some truly talented person succeeds with breaking out the bits and pieces from the rom so it can be used in non official WM5 devices. But by then most of the existing WM2003 (upgraded to leaked WM5 builds) probably got tired of waiting and bought an official WM5 device.
MrHappy, sorry if it sounds as a rant. It's not intended as a rant.
Cheers
Would a possible plan of action by end-users result in X1 Blackberry Connect compatibility?
A possible petition or mass correspondence by Xperia users is feasible.
Before proceeding the following information would be helpful. Please contribute if you have the answers.
1) What is the future of Blackberry Connect? Are companies forgoing involvement with BBC in wait for the rumored "BlackBerry Application Suite?"
(Possibly nothing more than a Storm theme for WindowsMobile?)
2) What is SonyEricsson's current relationship with Blackberry? I understand they have a number of SE Blackberry enabled devices (SE & BBC), but as a manufacturer they are no longer listed on the official BlackBerry Connect main page. Instead you have to dig deeper under the Blackberry Connect > Europe menu.
3) Does anyone know the procedure a manufacturer must go through to get their device BlackBerry Connect enabled? Is the decision taken from the manufacturer or RIM? If there is a fee, how is it calculated? Is it per company, per device platform, per device enabled, etcetera?
4) Any potential reason that SonyEricsson have not enabled BlackBerry Connect for the Xperia X1?
5) How have SonyEricsson responded to mass customer correspondence/action in the past?
If anyone is interested in taking this a few steps further, please let me know. Any support or feedback would be appreciated. I am sure both private customers and enterprises would be interested in having BlackBerry features on their SonyEricsson Xperia X1's. I have also posted this on Xperia X1 forums and possibly some others.
I'm very interested in this. mostly i want to tap into the blackberry messenger service!
I am also very interessted in BB connect on the X1!!
The Xperia X1 would be my first choise for a new phone/PDA, but I am stuck to Blackberry if I want to read my company mail.
I am alos Very Interested in this.
I have X1 sitting on my desk doing very little for me.
Have gone back to my Nokia E65 because Blackberry Connect still works on that device.
But really want to move to my X1 for good.
this will never make it as a serious Corperate phone without some sort of Blackberry support.
Thanks in advance if we get anything out of this.
have you tried asking se or blackberry?
i'd have thought that was a better course of action.
if se never said they'd support it then i cant see how a class action would help.
Thanks to everyone who have given this issue their support.
There are a few steps I would like to do by Friday the 13th of February.
1) Contact both SE and RIM on the closest I can get to an official word regarding plans for X1 and BBC connectivity.
2) Contact other Xperia blogs to see if they can link this post on their websites.

As mentioned above, I'm contacting SE to get their verdict.
By customer action I mean the ability to mobilize customers to voice their opinion on an issue. Including but not limited to petitions, mass correspondence, etc..
If anyone has ideas on how to proceed please don't hesitate to post.
Answers to questions on the first post would also be of help.
Thanks again.
Would be very interested in this. Blackberry Connect would be a HUGE asset to the X1. Look forward to hearing from you after the 13th.
I'm postponing the correspondence until after the MWC which ends on the 19th of February.
Maybe some new news will be unveiled then.
connect 106 was released last week for the HD i think, have you tried that?

Emoze
I am using now Emoze Pro and I am happy. I have push email even if my company is very secure and I have access just to OWA.
Are there any news on this?

Well about your first issue, BB Suite is not only a Storm Theme, it is lika actually emulating the whole BB os and fucntions, deved by the BB people themselves, so its legal, and has all their features, even BBPin, which is somehow obtained from the phones IMEI. Check i thread I created asking about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483588&highlight=Blackberry+apps.
and it is not a rumor now since it was properly showed and demoed on MWC on a TouchPro.
Has anybody tried the new BB connect 1.06 available now for Touch HD ?
I am also w8ting for BB Connect on My X1i.....
Any Update please upload in this thread....
Thanks in Advance

Waiting for the NEW Microsoft's service
Microsoft My Phone
unfortunately, http://myphone.microsoft.com gives me an error whenever i try going on to it....
The site has been up and down for this, and so you can't sign-up.
...so this is really useless until they get the beta program rolling
EDIT: Here is another thread about the site:

If you hold fire until after the MWC in Barcelona (16-19 Feb), I'm sure MS will be announcing the formal launch of the service and a "proper" release of the cab instead of a beta.
MS used to call it Skybox, but I reckon Rupert Murdoch might have something to say about that name.

Lets hope so that would be nice to be able to use it as earlly as next week.
Waze is trying to create the first user generated live driving map. Our goal is to empower drivers to
create, share and use real-time information (such as Traffic updates
or road accidents) straight from their Smartphones.
We launched an alpha three weeks ago, limited to android, and received great feedback on it from Mashable CNET Venturebeat GPS Business News and Ubergizmo to name only a couple.
We have now expanded our alpha to WinMo and are looking for alpha Users all across the US.
If you think you might be interested send me an email Daniel [at] waze [dot] com
Thanks
Daniel
do you have any plans extending it to Europe ( sweden )
Hi guys.
I designed a website for checking for firmware update for our Sony devices. It's built to work on desktops or on phones. It pulls data straight from Sony's servers. Now you can get your OCD firmware checking fix on the go.
