Problem when trying to get Nexus S into recovery - Nexus S General

So today I manually updated my Samsung Nexus S to 2.3.6 and after it finished installing it was stuck at the splash screen. The graphics were moving but the phone was frozen. I took out the battery and rebooted the phone only to find out out I have the no service bug. I was about to download and install the radio patch from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884 but when I get into the bootloader and click on recovery first I get a box with an arrow pointing out with the android and than the android with the exclamation point. I'm not sure whats wrong.

Press volume up and power button. Your phone is not broke the stock recovery does that for everyone. Might take a few attempts.

Haa got it took about 10 tries though. Thank you.

it should work right off the bad, just by holding those 2 buttons properly

Random Restarts

Just got a streak and I love it. My only problem is its randomly restarted 3 times tonight. The phone is used and I'm unsure if the phone has been altered or it is stock.
Here's the info:
Firmware: 2.1-update 1
Baseband: GAUSB1A120321-US
Kernel: 2.6.29-perf
No superuser icon either.
If this is a problem, forgive me for not spending more than 5 min to search, can someone give me a link or is this a persistent problem?
Thanks

any answers ?
does not sound normal... I'm running modded stock 422 with faux kernal , screen turns on instantly, no lag with apps....
This should definitely not be happening.
Can you give us more details? What version ROM are you running? Have you done any modification to the device?

Try deleting apps that u installed recently. One of those apps might be causing this.

you should do a factory reset back to a clean phone , see if problems go away , then added your apps 1 at a time to see if a app is causing this.
in settings backup and reset i would uncheck automatic restore so it doesn't load all the apps you had downloaded to your phone prior to wipe
or you could use mskips tool kit to reflash stock rom , the tool kit can root, unlock, add custom recovery, reflash to stock to rma, it does a lot and is super easy to use...
wug's tool kit does the same things also, with a nicer looking interface

Easiest method would be to dirty flash whatever rom you're running.
Edit: also, only need power + volume down to boot into bootloader. Holding the power button for 10 seconds will hard reboot your phone.
Truth be told, I just hold power for 10 seconds, then just hold volume down before it gets to the Google logo.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40859201 motley has a stock kernel and components link in the OP. Don't forget to thank him if it helps.
That's for 4.2.2, so if you're on 4.3 it may not help. Failing that, try reflashing Franco's kernel?

[Q] D800 Phone consitantly reboots and overheats/ bootloops

Ive been having issues with my d800, no matter what rom/kernel i use it randomly reboots i guessing because it over heats because it gets hot and then boot loops, i have to manually power off and let phone cool before powering on again. Also alot of the times i press the power but or double tap to turn the screen on and it doesn't come on, it is illuminated lightly but its still black I rooted using iroot25 and autorec for recovery. The most stable rom I've found was Candykat and i still get a reboot every once in a while but it boots right back up. I've tried re flashing tot/dll with lg flash tools a couple times now that works fine, and rooting works fine. its just about any rom i use it has issues, could this be a hardware issue? Also Ive tried cwm/twrp/philscwm recoveries and that didn't make a difference. i am using d800 roms just to clear that up. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Baseband version- M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190082
Kernel version- 3.4.0-slim-4.4.2-kk+ [email protected] #1 Fri Jul 11 20:41:49 EDT 2014
CandyKat version- Ck-v1.5.5 Official-20140711
This is my current setup and it seems to work the best, also im not using a kernel tuner right now.
Please ask if you need more info.Ill try to get a logcat if someone can help. im not new to this and it just has me stumped.
Thanks Matt

Hello, I'm having the exact same issues like you, I have my phone for over a year and started with this problem, I have the last Optimus for the AT&T version, do you find a solution?

Yes, well sort of. I sold the phone and they took it apart and apparently the person I bought it off of, had d800 factory covers and the internals were d802 and it also had an d800 ROM so I didn't know ant different. But I'm not sure if that's your issue or not

Sometime just cooldown the phone by Puting it in a plastig bag and in the freeze sova that.
Thermal don't load properly during boot.

Unable to update Nexus 4 above 4.2.2

I tried every possible way to update my Nexus 4. When i update to 4.3 it goes in to a boot loop. Same goes for 4.4.4 update. I tried to use custom rom, but no luck there. I already tested with factory images, but for some reason i cant go beyond 4.2.2. Even Wugs tool kit didn't help, I also did every thing manually, loading new radio, recovery, boot, system, new boot loader (z30). Still cant update.
4.2.2 Works flawlessly. And now i am stuck with it.
Please help me.
P.S After OTA update it still goes in to boot loop.
Tell me the error.. What exactly happens?

It doesnt go further then the X logo. That X boot loop. Same thing happens when I update to 4.4.4 it stays at the four circles.
All I can think of is to try a factory image from a different source, just in case that the one you have is corrupted. Also, how are you flashing the factory images? Are you using fastboot?
Unable to update Nexus 4.
Yes I am using Fastboot, i tried different source, custom roms like cyanogenmod. Still no use. I even tried using Wugs tool kit but still cant upgrade above 4.2.2
I'm having the exact same problem, I've tried custom roms using twrp, I've tried all the stock roms using fastboot and adb, and the only thing I can get to boot is the stock 4.2.2 build. Very confusing.

Google also accepts this problem and replaces the devices if there is any warranty left. Some says it has something to do with the radio and some says its hardware fault. If non of these can help you, selling the phone is a simple solution.
J had the same problem..
J sent the phone in warranty and they replaced the motherboard.
Check your emmc chip using brickbug app on play store

As mentioned above, this is a hardware issue that happens on some devices.
LG Optimus 2X:
ROM: Tonyp TheROM Build 26 New Bootloader
Kernel: Kowalski Kernel M1 New Bootloader 2.6.39.4 W/ RAM Hack
Bootloader:ICS Bootloader
Recovery: TWRP 2.6.0.0 For New BL
Baseband: 1035.21
Nexus 4:
ROM: Stock 4.4.4 W/ Root (Xposed, GPU Drivers, Dalvik/Bionic Patches)
Kernel: Franco r213
Bootloader: Stock Bootloader (Unlocked)
Recvoery: PhilZ Touch CWM-Based Recovery
Radio:Radio (1.03)
I'll check my emmc chip when I get home, I'm not giving up yet though. This is just such a strange problem, I'm reluctant to believe its hardware related. Really hope it's not as I have no warranty and a motherboard isn't really worth the cost. Does anyone have anymore info on how this could be a hardware problem ? It works flawlessly on 4.2.2. I find this problem fascinating, would really like to understand it more.
Dude... Check the emmc.. Many phones have a bad chip.. But if its working on 4.2.2 and not above.. That's VERY strange

Actually, although not common, there have been many cases of this occurring. It is a hardware issue.

Did you every manage to if this problem? I have encountered exactly the same thing. Boot-loops on every other version than 4.2, very odd
