TIP:
Once you're on AT&T GB Bootloaders, I would advice you to use bootloader free package always in future. So far AT&T GB bootloaders have been backward compatible with all I897 (even I9000) Froyo/Eclairs ROMs. I have used I9000 based ROMs with AT&T GB BLs. Someone in CM7 thread claimed to use AT&T GB bootloaders with CM7 without any problem.

Rest are simply packed by me using same zip script from others. I am just putting up all Stock Captivate stuff at one place.
EDIT: Found the original thread by Oxicottin. Most the modems here are done by him. Check out his website for location wise data for best modems. Check this thread for a get around on RAT selection restrictions on i897 modems.
Also, check this thread for more I9000 based modems and modem dance. (I9000 modems requires I9000 based ROM and reoriented kernels.)

"Leaked" Stock I897UCKK4 Android 2.3.5 One Clicks *Heimdall and Odin*
**This is the "LEAKED" (NOT Official) Stock I897UCKK4 Firmware**... BUT The "leaked" I897UCKK4 and the "Official" I897UCKK4 have already been confirmed to be one and the same. KK4 is KK4. Credit to Time_Zone and his post here (and related posts)... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21379268&postcount=145
And I personally downloaded his capture of the mini kies update and compared it with the "leaked" KK4 and can confirm 100% with Time_Zone that they are identical.
====================================================================================================
Use these One Clicks to Flash to Stock I897UCKK4 Gingerbread Firmware from the Android platforms (Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread), including the (AOSP/MTD) Cyanogen Mod, and MIUI Roms and also ICS and Jellybean Roms. Of course i897 Gingerbread Bootloaders must be installed in order for you to run an i897 Gingerbread Firmware.
Odin will work on Windows (XP, Vista, 7 etc.) - Heimdall will work on Windows (XP, Vista, 7 etc.), Linux or Mac OS-X.
Thanks to Samsung for the Odin DL Creator. Thanks to Benjamin Dobell for Heimdall - Open-Source Cross-Platform Flashing Suite 1.3.1. And Thanks to AdamOutler for Heimdall One-Click - ROM Packaging and Distribution System. Please take time to read up on Heimdall through the provided links, if you are not familiar with it. And be sure to hit the Thanks buttons for these Developers.

Here are four One Click executables that I put together. Each is packaged in a zip file along with a Read Me file that contains Info and Instructions.
The zip file is used just to include the Read Me and to make for a smaller download file size. Once downloaded to your computer, just extract the One Click and Read Me out of the zip and follow the info and instructions contained in the read me file.
The title of these really says it all, but the Read Me files will give a lot more info.
Again, these are Complete Stock I897UCKK4 Gingerbread Firmwares.
Hope many find these useful.

Any brave volunteers?

I have built a Froyo ROM from source. I got the Captivate vendor files from Krylon360 over at Cyanogen, updated them, and built a ROM. I was able to get the leaked Froyo Captivate system.img and extract it so I could get the files required for our device. The ROM build cleanly and I was able to restore it to my device but since I have an Eclair kernel it will not boot. I actually read later in a forum that an Eclair kernel won't boot a Froyo system.
Anyway, I am looking for anyone who has a Captivate with the leaked Froyo build installed to try and restore my ROM. It will not brick your phone, I promise. I took a Nandroid backup before restoring and when I saw why it wasn't booting in logcat I booted into recovery and restored my last backup.
I just want to see if this guy will boot properly with a Froyo kernel and also see if I have all the device drivers working, etc.
Thanks!
Just replied to your other post Let's do this!
Sounds pretty awesome, but why didn't you just flash a Froyo kernel on your phone? Upload it and post up a link so we can see what you have.

He's not running windows and therefore can't use ODIN to swap kernels.
I was planning on flashing to Cog beta 8 today anyway.... I can give it a try.
Flashing requires Odin which requires Windows which I do not have.
I will post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
I built without kernel so if the ramdisk.img gives you grief, exclude it from the backup and also remove it from nandroid.md5.
In fact you should only need to restore system.img.
Just saw the above post...I'll be anxiously awaiting the link.
Thanks, guys. Remember, I am doing this for ALL OF US.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6995251/full_captivate.tgz
Like I said, you should only need system.img. So basically, edit nandroid.md5 and strip out the checksums for the other two files. Then copy nandroid.md5 and system.img to your recovery directory. Mine is /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.
Report back what you find.
If you have the sdk installed, please use adb logcat to get me any details. I am working with a couple of guys who work on both Cyanogen and Cognition to hash the details out. Like I said, I got all the hardware-specific files dialed in so we should be okay.
downloading now and will give it a shot..i have a test captivate so I dont mind bricking it.

Thanks. I wanted to go the AOSP route because I think what happens is.. People are modding the factory carrier images but you don't always know what's in there and can end up with crap you don't need. Plus, this is the latest 2.2.1 from AOSP.

You can swap kernels using redbend if you have 2e recovery (which he should considering that he is on Eclair). You can also flash using the open source alternative to Odin that is available here.
Any screenshots?
What are the specs of this Rom? Is it completely AOSP?

Heimdall is it's name. I can attest for it's stability. I've used it quite a few times on Archlinux when I didn't feel like booting into Windows. One note is you always need to give it a PIT file.
you want this loaded thru ODIN?
I'm getting MD5 mismatch... looking into it.

[STOCK ROM] [ODIN & CWM] i896 Rogers Captivate Official 2.2

Update:
I created a CWM Flashable ROM. Plain stock with Root. This is my first time packing a rom. I tested it and it flashed ok from 2.1 and works on my device just fine. If you don't like it or it doesn't work for you don't blame me, you knew the risk. Post your success.
BTW: you will loose Clockwork recovery and will be replaced with Stock 3e Recovery.
Clockwork Recovery can be restored via this thread tested and it works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
Have you tried it yourself?
Not to be flashed through recovery its the files Kies downloads to update the device. I personally did my update through Kies.
Excellent I will pull the files from system, the kernel, and modem, customize it a bit, and make an update.zip and flash this to my captivate....assuming AT&TS version is still a long way away.

I would be leary of that. Modem " might " work. Kernel could make for a fun ride though.with i9000 roms that is.
Can this be flashed with Odin? I have a Rogers Captivate but Kies can't see upgrades for my phone. I edited the nv_data.bin file and sgstools shows the proper product code but still no luck.

Stock DK28 to Bonsai 4.0.0 - do I have this order correct?

Hey everyone, I'm finally switching to a custom rom today after months of putting it off for various reasons. Before I start I want to check one last time I have the order correct:
(I've already installed the Samsung drivers on my PC)
1. Flash EC05 modem with Odin (turn on USB debugging and put phone in download mode)
2. Put the rom .zip file on root of sdcard
3. Install 1 click root/recover with CWM3 (not sure if I need to use .5 or .6 - do I want the newer one since I'm going to a new rom, or the old one since the phone is on DK28 now?)
4. Flash rom from CWM
5. Enjoy
Do I have all that right?
Also this method will leave my contacts/data/apps intact, right? (I have them all backed up anyway, but I'd rather not have to restore them manually)
Thanks in advance!
bump - anyone??
Mammon has started another website and forum to deal with Bonsai questions.
So is all Bonsai discussion banned on XDA till they (hopefully) work things out and get rid of the membership thing?
You can also use this to skip some steps : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853209
But thats the right order and if u use my above method you need to flash the ec05 modem after it then flash new bonsai

Your free to talk about anything Bonsai you want to. They just can't post a link to their website unless they become compliant with Rule 11.
Make sure you use CWM 3.0.6 and you be a lot happier. If your looking for direct developer support you will have to go to their website.

I take no responsibility if your phone becomes a brick. You should be fully aware of all risks associated with flashing a rom with bootloaders prior to flashing this.
If you are currently using a lagfix you should convert back to rfs prior to flashing just to be safe.

It's the same risk thats envolved when using the odin 1-click to stock eclair. As long as your power doesn't go out or the mean magic mushroom people don't disconnect your phone in the middle of your phone flashing the bootloaders you'll be fine.

I am not responsible for any damage to your phone, computer, home, girlfriend or family pet. By using this, you release the creator from any liability.
I would like to thank icezar1 for his help with this project. I could not have done this without him.
I decided to start this thread because I saw several roms saying "flash back to stock Gingerbread", but they usually involved bootloaders, increasing your chance of bricking your phone. I searched and the closest thing I found to a safer way was a group of stock I9000 roms, but they were deodexed and zip aligned. Since we are using Captivates, I really wanted something designed for our phones, so I made this.
This is stock UCKF1, without bootloaders or a pit. I repackaged the rom (minus bootloaders/pit) into 1 file. The original firmware was downloaded from samfirmware.com. Also, I have tested this on my (only) phone, and it works.
The 3 file version was also downloaded from samfirmware.com. It is the exact same as stock, but it doesn't have bootloaders or a pit. I also tested this package on my (only) phone, and it works.
You will need 7zip to unpack the file. If you need 7zip, you can get it here.
If you haven't already upgraded to the new I897 Gingerbread bootloaders, you can get those >>HERE<<.
Stock UCKF1 No Bootloaders
Odin 3 File No Bootloaders
In the past, some phones have not responded well to 1 click flashes. If your phone is one of those, please don't use this. Use the 3 File version for Odin 1.8x.
Please make sure that your usb cable is plugged into a port in the back of the computer (#1 port on a laptop).
You will lose root by flashing this.
You will lose CWM by flashing this.
This is a wipe package, so don't forget to backup.

I don't think there is a deodex/zipaligned KF1 out there yet. Some of the other folks in the stock thread (last i heard) were having problems with the deodexing. I really did this just as a flash to stock method before flashing a rom.

i've been trying to deodex the damn KF1 for 3 days now and still can not push it back to /system, saying the folder can not be found. well, i guess i'll have to stay with cog5 for a while until someone figure it out

Isn't Cog5 deodex'd? It says so in the Cog5 features list. I'm sure if you shoot designgears a PM he can help you out.

How is this different than the other UCKF1 one-click?

This is also a one click, but it doesn't have bootloaders (boot.bin and sbl.bin). Since bootloaders will cause a permanent brick, i thought it was kinda foolish to flash them just to return to stock before flashing a rom.

Only if you have the KF1 GB bootloaders already installed.
If i used the regular stock kf1 1click w/ bootloaders and then flashed cog5 and then used the regular stock kf1 1click w/ bootloaders to go back to stock kf1 would i brick? Since they are the same bootloader?

Sounds like you should ask in the cog5 thread. My package doesn't have bootloaders.

No, you wouldn't brick, unless something interrupts the bootloader flashing process.
The whole point of this 1-click with no bootloaders is to be able to flash to stock without running the risk of bricking your phone from a bad flash. There is no way to truly brick your phone with this 1-click since the bootloaders are never touched.
With that said, you should only use this 1-click if you have already flashed the KF1 bootloaders at least once before.
ok thanks i didnt think it would brick
Nice, a I897UCKF1 Odin-1-Click Gingerbread flash to stock with no bootloaders.
No more flashing to Eclair for a fresh start. I like it.
Great idea,

Thanks. I've been thinking about doing a 3 file one for odin, too. Some people have phones that don't like one clicks.
And some of us prefer to use heimdall, so 3 file would be great.
