[Q] how to auto-restore apps after OS re-installing?

Sometime I found my apps download and re-install automatically from the market after a OS re-installing. ( install new ROM or do factory rest) Also the wan settings/ wallpaper restored.
But in most cases it didnot. I don't understand that, is there any setting on android system (backup & Restore settings?) or on my google account?

[Q] Gmail APK w/o "conversation view"

Am using Gmail v4.6 on Android 4.2.2 (rooted). Looking for an older version of the Gmail app that did not have "conversation view" or had the option to disable it. I found v4.0.5 and downloaded it but can't figure out if it has the option to disable conversation view. I think I'll install it later and give it a try.
But if anyone has an older APK I would appreciate it. Thanks.
After freezing the current version of Gmail using Titanium, I installed the 4.0.5 APK using ES Explorer but it says "x Application not installed". Did not work. Not sure why.
Realized I need to uninstall the previous version before installing the new version. I guess "freezing" doesn't cut it. Anyway tried 4.0.5 and also 2.2 and both still have "conversation view" that can't be disabled. Guess I'm going back to K9 for e-mail. Hate conversation view.

Nexus 7 2012
TWRP 2.8.1.0
Version: 2014-11-17
Thanks for the feedback!
Next update will be introducing a new installation system that can help with different /system partition size.
It should be done within 3 days!
New build is up! Please give me feed back on this so I can improve it more!
When Play Services 6.5 is pushed (with trusted locations) will we get the update automatically or do we need to rely on you to make a new Gapps package? Thanks for your work! Trying it now.
Normally, the Google Play Services should able to update itself. But I'll also update the build when it's out, to reduce /data usage.
Can you remove the Android Version check or make a version for 5.0.1? Thanks!
Sorry for the delay, but here it is! All updated to latest version and provided Slim version for devices having smaller /system partition!

[Q] How was I able to install an older version of one system app but not another?

So I want to use an older version of GMail and Google Calendar. The pre installed versions are 9.x and 6.x respectively. I have APK's of the 8.x and 5.x versions (also respectively)
So I click on the APK for the 5.x version of Calendar, and get the "App Not Installed" message. Just for SnG's, I click on the Gmail APK, and to my surprise, it actually installs, replacing the 9.x with the 8.x. I did nothing different.
Any idea why Gmail would allow an older APK to install but Google Calendar wouldn't? And how can I replicate it to get the older Calendar installed? Disabling the 6.x version does not make a difference, I still get the App Not Installed Error

Unable to Install APKs (Package Invalid)

I recently upgraded to the latest build of Oxygen OS (IN2025_11_F.13) after procrastinating.
I am trying to install quick glance so that I can disable the discover page on my homescreen.
No matter what APK version I try, it gives me an error stating the package appears to be invalid.
The same thing happens when trying to install the older version of oneplus weather with the (in my opinion) better widget and animations.
This also applies to any APK I have tried installing.
Is there any way to install these apps?
Or are there other ways to restore the old version of weather and disable discover?
My device is rooted with Magisk FYI.
Thanks.
