I recently purchased a rogers galaxy tablet and immediately used kies to upgrade the firmware to gingerbread 2.3.3. I inserted my sim which has an active data plan and im getting text messages only from my service provider. Im not getting any data signal and i cant browse the internet. Worst of all i CANT ADD ANY ACCESS POINT NAME (APN). whenever i try to select the "add apn" icon it just dissapears when i press it. If i try to restore the apn settings to default it just force closes, and whenever i download an apn app from the android market im getting errors when i try to save the apn i create using the apps. I really love the sgt but im stuck using wifi tethering from my alcatel one touch. Help me please im new to the tablet and this forum. Heard it was great so hope u guys can help me

i'm from nepal. i bought tmobile g1 from a friend who was back from US, it was unlocked, i could insert my SIM card and use the phone to call and everything. i reset the mobile to factory settings now whenever i try to switch on my mobile phone, it takes me to the google account set up page.. but the problem is that i haven't set the GPRS in my g1, and i cannot reach to the home screen. how can i get out of this problem? i've been trying to 'root' (i'm completely new to android or linux systems), and i'm reading a heck lot of articles on 'rooting' 'SPL', 'Cyacanogen' blah blah.. i think it will take a serious amount of time before i can do that.. is there any shortcut way to re-use my phone as for now? thankx
sounds like an APN issue
when you're on the google login screen, hit menu and wireless settings. I'm guessing your APN isn't set up on the handset for data. check the details with your provider and set up a new APN from this screen. should work after that.
first off if this is posted somewhere els my apologies i looked for a long time and could not find it.
i recently baught a MyTouch 3g (tmobile) and unlocked it with a code but i am stuck on the set up screen i tap the android guy and go through a couple screen and it asks me to log in to google or create an account i input my information and it goes through the motions but it alwayscomes back saying that it cannot connect. the phone shows it has service but i cannot get past this screen.
if i hit the menue button i do have an option to go into network settings and i have put all of the settings that rogers has given me (there are alot of empty spaces though) and still no effect. Please someone help i dont wanna be stuck with a phone i cant even use. Thanks in adv
Well since you unlocked it you are not finding a set network therefore you're stuck.. you're most likely going to need to root your phone and install a rom that allows bypass of google sign in so you can get your vpn set up correctly first.

Press the menu button after powering on the phone. In network setting, you need to add the APN settings for your network, in your case its Rogers. So yeah, get the correct Rogers APN settings and you are ready to go.
However since Rogers requires you to buy a data day pass if you don't have a data plan, the above procedure might not work. Try it first though.
The safest bet is to buy a data day pass (only $2.99 for 20MB) on your other current rogers phone, and then transfer the SIM card to your myTouch. Don't worry about those blanks in APN settings, just fill up the required field.
Hope it helps.
Hi guys, I think i may have broken my phone. I installed the application Telinfo and tested the LTE Only option. It worked well for me but did not like it because when i force it on LTE Only im unable to do any calls (although text messages work well) so i uninstalled the application and rebooted my phone. After that it is asking me to activate my phone, when i try to activate it. it fails. Tried to restore my last back up, same thing. Any one encountered the same issue? I checked Mobile Networks and it only show CDMA select Home and Automatic as the options
Hi All,
Please help. I'm a rookie at rooting and have an unlocked Japanese Note 3 through AU (my Japanese service provider). I was in a rush and paid someone to unlock it before heading back to the States last year. The phone works with my AT&T sim card but when I am back in Japan (with Japanese sim) I am constantly being dropped from the network. 4G service usually works for internet, etc, but I cannot make/receive phone calls and only occasionally can send/receive text messages. I need to know if I should re-root the phone (and leave it rooted) or just do a factory reset (or perhaps change some other setting to get things working again)? The problem with a factory reset is that it will probably re-lock the phone and I don't have a code.
Strange Detail:
Whenever I try to dial a number, the name of a Chinese Province shows up under the Contact's Name. This suggested to me some network issue where the phone somehow thinks it's in China (though texts still kinda work...) and doesn't connect correctly to the Japanese network.
Details:
Model: sm-N900J (per the download screen) i believe this means it has a SnapDragon Processor
Knox warranty has been tripped (apparently by the guy I paid to unlock it originally - is that bad?)
Android 4.3 (looks like I'm still in the original version of Jellybean. Should I upgrade to Kitkat or Lollipop?)
Other Issues:
As of two days ago, the phone now restarts after about 5 minutes of use. Like many Note 3 phones, it's always done the occasional random restart (another reason to root?) but now it's making the phone almost unusable. Also, since having the phone rooted/unlocked/re-rooted I always get a series of warnings upon start-up. Typically, standard Samsung apps like S Planner, Calendar Storage, Keyguard and Index Service have stopped. I have never been able to use the Calendar (or other basic apps) since it always crashes. Is this an issue with Knox clashing with something from the original root (I still see SuperSU loaded -but "turned off"- in the apps menu)?
Idealy...
...someone can help me decide the best course of action (Root, Reset, Other), and how to make sure I can connect back up to my Japanese network properly. I think I'd prefer to root since what I want is an unlocked phone that works smoothly, with good battery life, little to no bloatware, a custom theme and a working S pen. If I root, what's the best method (already have SuperSU apparently) and which ROM and version of Android would be the most stable?
Main Issues Recap:
No connection to phone network (or limited 4G internet).
Phone restarts every few minutes.
Many Apps crash upon Start-up.
Thanks in advance!
So, here's an update that someone with a similar problem might find useful...
Japan uses CDMA for voice and GSM for LTE Data. Somehow (probably through using my phone in the states on a GSM network) the phone was no longer connecting to the CDMA network. Since I'd gotten no responses and felt like there was a good chance that a factory reset would not reverse the sim-unlock I'd stupidly paid to have done, I did a factory reset. Despite appearing to have solved my Index Service, Calendar Storage, S Planner crashing issues, I was still having the exact same problem of LTE working but no CDMA network.
Somehow I stumbled on to this website...(well, I'm unable to post as a new user but searching for "How To Fix Samsung Galaxy error while searching for network" should bring it up).
There, I found some really odd directions that solve network error issues. The only part of the instructions I was really able to carry out was take out the battery and simultaneously press the home and power buttons 10 times. I restarted my phone and miraculously was able to place a call for the first time in a year in Japan!
But then I no longer had any data. I figured it had to do with the APN settings being wiped in the strange reset I just tried. But when I went into Settings>More Networks>Mobile Networks there was no longer an Access Point Names option in the menu. There is no longer a "Network Mode" option either. I used to have that set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM but now I only see a System Select option that simply lets me change my CDMA roaming mode from Automatic to Home Only.
I tried searching everywhere for the missing Access Point Names menu to no avail (and almost attempted to try flashing CyanogenMod for the time hoping this would bring back the APN settings menu) but then I realized that I could do a search in the settings app. I searched APN and the option came right up (though it's frustrating that this now appears to be hidden). Using the following settings (copied below) from the AU by KDDI website I created a new APN profile. Now mobile date appears to be working just fine too!
So, now I just need to decide if I want to keep running Touchwiz in Jellybean or use my new found confidence to try rooting and custom roms...
I'm also kind of curious to see that the next phone bill comes in as expected and I'm not being charged for a bunch of crazy usage! Also, any suggestions to help explain how I got into this problem in the first place, or how to clean up any loose ends would be appreciated.

Hi I ve going through the forums and found some info on this topic but couldn't fill my stomach with it. Thats why and I must say that I am in need for urgent pro help.
So I got a LG G2 Unlocked in India. Its Sprint edition from US that I bought in India. So its unlocked and yes I am able to use cellular calling and the 3G using 'Change APN' app.
where I just put my Network Provider name and then Apn = www
The major problem in my handset is that when ever I am trying to open wifi hotspot or I am trying to recieve or send files through Share it app it doesnt seem to work.
When I try to manually switch on Wifi hotspot it hangs and keeps saying "turning On" and time passes by and nothing happens. i am able to use the phone in every way in the mean time.
Same with share it when I try to use it it says the sender should press send... but actually nothing happens no matter who all send.
Is it something with the software?? because normal wifi does turn on and I am able to use INTERNET through wifi routers.
if its something I have to do with the software or If its a hardware issue. please help. In need of urgent help.
