Hm now now, if it is coming from the president of the company it does not rub off too good on all of us who paid for the device!
http://www.wmexperts.com/where-sony-ericsson-went-wrong-and-how-xperia-x1-was-experiment
i dont think i am the only one, but somehow, i still love my xperia, to date, i still have not seen a mobile i would replace my x1 with
well it may be an experiment, but it turns out it's a very good one, so far I like the xperia more than any other phone, I went thru a lot of WM phones, and I think it is the best out there, it may not have all the features that some have (accelerometer, tv-out) it may not be the easiest to type, but overall is good, fast and very good looking.
Looking forward for the next-gen xperia.
its a quote taking out of proporstion. he probally said the x1 was a test of the wm market and the high end (very expensive phones). to see if it would sell to a level that they make a decent profit.
from what i have seen they have sold tons of x1's (for the type of phone it is) and have been happy with the product (crack problem aside).
so i think they will be strongly supporting the wm format and a x2 will be coming out and probally be alot better make and support at the start with some great software from SE (as they now have experiance with wm software, as shown in the beta r3 release).
I love my Xperia as well and i wouldn't change it for any other phone as no other phone has so many functions and looks good at the same time! (and no, HTC phones do not look half as good!)...
but for a company's CEO to come out and say that the device was an experiment for them is completely wrong. If companies want to experiment they can do it with prototypes, not get customers involved in the process.
If you look at the former "SE-business-phones" like the UIQ3-ones P1i and W960i and the others, these are like ones from the stone-age compared to the X1.
I owned a P1i and a W960i right before the X1 and it has been such a quantum jump. I think it is o.k. to tell the X1 an experiment for SE.
Of course is was an "EXPERIMENT" it was their first Windows Mobile Phone.
Doesnt De-Value it at all - as long as they keep supporting it
Xperimental much?
It's quite a success other than the casing and sometimes the signal problems.
Otherwise it's a killer in a small package.
yeah, X1 isn't a bad phone at all
Although I wish they give faster updates for the X1 & add more "SE/X1-features".
Something like an exclusivity
made me think of any of these 2 cartoon strips

PS: I LOVE my X1!!! It is definitely the best piece of technology that I've held in my hands so far. Just fell in LOVE with it at the first touch
And I'm so happy I took part in an experiment like this one. It turned out to be successful (being in here with so many talented developers and custom roms, yet having the excellent service of SonyEricsson). Thank you SE for this Xperi-ment.
Their next experiment will be the X2 on Android OS.
Motorola is also doing experiments on all platforms: S60 UIQ, WinMob, their own linux platform, Android (coming soon).
I see nothing wrong experimenting with platforms. Not, as long as they provide support for all models and platforms, and continue updating software on all platforms.
Love my X1 too ...you guys are right -easily the best bit of kit I own
As long as support and updates continue, all's well
Looking forward to the X2!
i love my X1 too and it is the best phone i ever had.. waiting for X2..

I agree with u that the x1 was a big jump in the right direction.
ps. the w960i (which i owned before the x1 is a walkman phone, thats why it had the 8gb built in. it had a bit of software for business support but was the top of the range music phone.
sonys other business phones were the p1i and the p800 and p900 (i think they were the model numbers) based on the symbian software (uiq).

Yes I also still own it and when I used it, then most of the time for mm-purposes. But the FW on W960 is quasi the same one like on the P1; the only difference is the Walkman Player and the different layout of the hardware-keyboard.

i loved the w960i but u were stuck with what u had (limited options to change the phone as it was on symbian uiq)
but the x1 is by far the best phone i have owned and i think its still the best phone u can buy now and as far as i have seen in the near future too (tp2 the closest but still not as good as the x1 in design and near the same in spec).
It's a long story on why I sold off my X1. So I'm not going to bore you with the reason/story.
It was a great phone, probably one of the better ones in all the phones I own in the last few years (TouchPro, i780, Q9h, Treo500v, Dopod720, etc) but unfortunately I was disappointed and frustrated by Sony Ericsson's after sales service.
I was so fed up that I make the ultimatum earlier this week. I went ahead to buy Touch HD, a day before Touch Pro 2 was launched in my country. Nevertheless, it was a great phone, after I flashed Dutty's ROM (the first ROM customisation I had since my iPAQ days), and considering that it does not have keyboard, I'm happy for now (as I had always put keyboard as one of the key requirements when I scout for new phones)
So it's adious to Sony Ericsson. The new X2 looks promising, but I'm wary of SE's over-promise, under delivery, not in terms of product, but in terms of customer experience. I'm not sure if I would give X2 a chance when it arrives on our shore, maybe my geek personality would give in again but I'm not sure now. As for now, all my works regarding X1, e.g. Youtube, Navigator Panel, is now officially stopped, although unofficially, as you would probably have known, I have not done much in the last few months.
Bye!
Hope you will enjoy the new phone as much as you did with the X1. The Touch HD is also a cracking device so I'm sure you won't look back
Fortunately for me my phone's built is solid and have never had to use SE's after sale (touching wood!) and just flashed to Valkyrie's latest 6.5 ROM and I can't be happier.

Sorry to hear you're selling the X1. I don't post much, but I really appreciate your work.
As for the X2, I tend to think that SE will concentrate on better customer service because this time HTC will not be making the device for them. But of course we may lose a lot of the XDA forum support.
Please reconsider! The X2 looks like it will be an awesome device. A lot of people are complaining about the looks, but that's human nature, and the pics are far from definitive. The specs will be incredible. Can't wait for that OLED screen.

Off topic, but they said it'll be the [stupid] AM-OLED and not the OLED we've all been waiting for.
OLED has great visibility in sunny conditions while AMOLED's disadvantage is the visibility under the sun (you can't read the screen under the sun, just like the LCD of the X1) but it has a longer lifetime than classic OLEDs. So, no, there's not much to wait for the X2.

well, SE claims that we will have better customer experience, part of the Xperiance pitch, when they launched X1. They under delivered so I'm not sure if I'm going to believe them again when X2 is out.
That said, it's not that HTC is any better, if only they outsource their support to XDA, or maybe they already have, thus the poor service level
check this out:
http://www.mobile-review.com/articles/2009/bert-letter-en.shtml
its real ,and he hits the week points of SE
"Real innovations have been substituted by dreams. As a consumer I'm offered rapidly aging and overpriced phones that have no future on the market under the guise of 'state-of-the-art solutions'. Another manifestation of the company's dishonesty was when Sony Ericsson tried to persuade me via weak PR and advertising that these were marvelous products."
end quote.
Well, this guy is nailing it! Spot on! Dishonesty is the right word. Persuasion and promises without any real world backing.
"oh looky looky the X1 with the AMAZING panels that are going to change your everyday live" - oh yeah, it's one year after that and there are a handful of them. I haven't used any of them in months.
"oh looky looky the X2 is simply amazing cutting edge device with the fantastic tile panel" - oh yeah, very amazing with the pathetic old hardware and the annoying panel that is nothing more than a gimmick and is impossible to use on a daily basis.
Haha...
Damn!! This guy's got it spot on!
@nevermind: What was that u said, SE won't be phased if they loose me as a customer? Reality check, u guys are loosing it.
Imagine a current X1 user upgrading to a X2 and realising a couple of hours down the line that he just bought a re-glorified plastic encased X1 with an 8mp camera. lol
I really digged SE but as of late I've, and apparently more SE fanbois really felt as if though we've been cheated with the X1.
So, whatcha gonna do?
With have been cheated with the X2 not X1. Also, nevermind =/= SE.
the thing is how much we are annoyed with the x2, there is not any good phones coming for wm in the foreseeable future and the more i look the more i thing the x2 is the best looking most functional (with its keyboard) and although it lacks the cpu of some devices like the htc leo, the htc devices are so ugly i would never buy it.
it seems that if i get a x2 as a free replacement for my x1 i will be happy but if i dont i am happy to keep my x1 for now as the rest of the wm phones are not as good overall.
i dont really see the need for wm6.5 on the x1 as i have used both and dont think 6.5 is that much better but a r4 firmware update with the new drivers would be nice (although mine x1 is now tuned to be super fast and smooth apart from some games and videos).

it obviously was a sneer to SE. Not real! but seriously, if they really called it x1.5 , i would consider buying it, because it'll probably be the only phone to have such a model name/number. And perhaps, x2 is not worth the x2 name, because of the minor improvements over x1. But..... x1.5 was just a joke, c'mon...
I spent a few years with SE's UIQ phones, and a similar thing happened there. Since Sony Ericsson WAS in practice UIQ (apart from one Motorola I think), not only did they terminally underspec the UIQ terminals, they actually killed the UIQ interface, which was a real shame, since it was a very stable and efficient phone OS.
Déjà vu...
If you look at the UIQ forum on my-symbian.com, you will see similar complaints, letters published to CEOs etc. There must be some serious disconnects in SE for this to happen with their flagship range(s).
It's called greed. Also, providing as little as possible and pricing it like a NASA prototype...
...and the poster with the 1.5 was OBVIOUSLY joking...
I hope sony respond positivley to this letter and turn their act around
When has an Internet campaign lead to anything? All these letters, petitions and campaigns are utterly pointless.
The only exception is the bringing back of Jericho, but is just the exception that proves the general rule. Plus, they annoyed the TV execs with the real world sending of nuts and other stuff. Maybe we should send something to SE. Hm... something smelly perhaps?

Well maybe they will, if the x1's keep falling appart or have other weird issue's like mines that turns blue'ish when sliding open.. the screen cable gets a bit loosy when i slide it open. ( its already been in repairs once for that issue but back then it went off instead of turning blue.. )

How do you think about X2 now? I already check and still no update. Do all X2 users think no need for another update or what?
Thanks
I'm afraid that no MR3 will come, but I strongly hope for a couple of bugfix.
The phone is now stable and usable, but there is a large room for refinements.
X2 is better phone then when it first came out in january but its still noway near complete.
even if the phone was like this on january and then got a couple of updates it wouldnt justify its price unless if it would work flawlessly.
the general importer of SE for Slovenia still sells it for 550€ and galaxy I9000 costs around 600€ (I9000 got european smartphone award 2010-2011, X2 is a bad joke).
if you pay €500+ you need it for work (email and internet work fine but calls get weard sometimes and its anyoing and embarrassing) or for showoff (if you use the slideview or the panelmanager alot it will freeze soon or later and embarass you in front of people).
SE has to do what he should. if we have to pay for thair product they need to make X2 work as it should.
X2... bye-bye
Just say bye to dear X2.
Just blame myself so fool to trust this X2.
Now I am going to consider to change with X10.
Senior, Any idea the difference between X10,X10mni,X10 mini pro? Of course about the OS?
And I review to another thread, They are debating about android and apple. But in this case I never ever think of using MAC because of my own reason. But... Senior, Can some one tell what is so special about Apple 4?
Is it true about big different between Android 1.x and 2.1?
Will X10 dissapointing again like X2?
Is there another good smart phone to suggest?
Thanks.

Hello friend, i'll suggest HTC Desire. If you go to the SE blog, you will see a lot of disgruntled x10 users as well. That is why SE has disappointed me so much. I therefore decided to try the HTC Desire, and i'm not regretting it at all. The device is very responsive! And the Android OS is lovely, and there are lots of free apps in their appstore. The only thing i've found disappointing about the Desire is its speaker phone. The volume is a bit too low. Apart from that, every other thing about the phone combined with the OS is just LOVELY. Cheers
In my experience, there are always dissatisfied users with any phone. If you wander into any forum here at xda, you will find different opinions.
On to android. It's a very nice operating system. It was made for touchscreens. The X10 is a great phone. Sony ericsson did a good job with 1.6 and soon will be updating to 2.1. That much is guaranteed.
With 2.1, you will get native exchange support. It will support more colors for the screen; 16m colors. You will get access to more apps that are only compatible with 2.1 and up such as google earth, advanced voice search, and other third party apps. You can have multiple google accounts and native facebook sync.
I have both the X10i and the Nexus One. I will say, hardware wise, the X10 is the better of the two. It could have used an optical track pad, but it isn't as important since I have the swype keyboard with a software dpad. The nexus one has the most software features since it has 2.2 but is buggy. I guess what I'm trying to say is the X10 is a really nice phone to use if you don't mind being a little behind with the OS version.
If you are really interested in any phone, you should hop into the different forums and get a feel for each phone from what people are posting about it.
Thanks to all friends. I just buy X10. hohohoh. very responsive. I like that. The sound is too low but clear. Still upgrading. The style is very exclusive. I like that. but... don't know yet.
But one thing is upsetting, no video call.
Just like what I imagine. No update till now. May be SE confuse how to upgrade more with this phone. hohohoh.... May be they have given the best shot to this phone. And last word is : "SORRY".
But from deep in my heart, I really disappointed with X2, I feel being cheated.
After I change to X10, many things is different. in many aspects, X10 is different.
My opinion, X10 is my phone. just meet my expecting.
considering to the: design, responsiveness, camera, connection, features, display, etc.
Nb: Friends, try consider X10. You will not disapoint.
is there anyone that regrets going from the x1 to the x2?

Before X2 I had Nokia 1110. Nokia was better that X2. Couse it was reliable
Nothings to regret from upgrade to X2. That so reliable to me as work and entertainment. All functions I used and very usefull for me. I advice whole who using X2 phone. It's not waste your money with it.
I bought X2 in March 2010.
It looked like a perfect device for me - business + media.
Many advantages......
But I have to say, honestly - X2 is a total failure. A shame for the company.
It's just totally unreliable. I mean you never know what will happen.
There are issues which have no explanation and solution.
My phone was really fine for months, I really enjoyed it.
But now it gets crazy with some screen flicking even after hard reset.
I think I get rid of this and will keep my X1 just in case. It was a great phone.
It's totally waisted chance. Pity because X2 has great keyboard and camera...
thanks for the responses. i'm undecided about getting it. i dont mind tweaking a phone. i just cant stand the x1 keyboard and the x2 looks great.

Yes, I already regret it...
I had a Xperia X1 for 1.5 years, and the last weeks the reception kept failing...
Had to buy an other cellphone, and because I liked the X1, the logical step was to buy the successor.
Because they didn't sell it anymore, I had to buy it secondhands. ( 6 months old )
I payed a fair price for it, but now is see why...
For some strange reason it won't play any .mp4 files! Also the software is sometimes laggy...
I also had the problem, when I wanted to disable key lock, it askes for a password, and I didn't set a password!I had to remove the battery and restart...
I have the phone one day and I already want it gone...

For some strange reason it won't play any .mp4 files! Also the software is sometimes laggy...
I also had the problem, when I wanted to disable key lock, it askes for a password, and I didn't set a password!I had to remove the battery and restart...
I have the phone one day and I already want it gone...

Wow that sounds quite bad. I've always wanted the X2 but then read posts like these and keep me back from even considering getting it anyways.
i just HATE the fact that SE decided to NOT include a hardware keyboard on the X10
