Any of you guys managed to see the Internet Sharing option in the settings, using the Rogers Focus on Fido, or in a similar situation?
And what about visual voice mail?
Both are coming to At$t soon.

Internet Sharing is only available on the newer handsets. Unless you are really savvy you can follow the hack posted in XDA, otherwise Internet Sharing (WiFi Hotspot) is not on the menu.
As for Visual voicemail, I dont have VM from Fido so can't say if it works. I have conditional call forwarding set up to go to another number where voicemail is free (freephoneline.ca) and they also email me a copy of the voicemail.
you can get internet sharing to work if you are unlocked, VVM requries att (or whomever your provider is) to make their backend compatible, which att has stated it is in the process of doing, so i'd expect it to work by the time the new handsets come out.
i wonder how long before att starts to crack down on wp7 users tethering without paying though.
Hmmm... maybe AT&T Mango update has WiFi Hotspot for older handsets? Maybe I'll reflash phone to AT&T rom and then go to Mango.
I can confirm there is no menu for WiFi hotspot on Rogers Samsung Focus. At least for my handset.
If you're willing to do a little legwork, you can get the WiFi Hotspot working for Rogers Canada under Mango. The basic steps are this:
1) you need a developer unlocked (or Chevron I guess) phone so that you can deploy XAP files to the phone
2) you need to INTEROP unlock your phone -- the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963 work, except that you may notice a few discrepancies -- your Diagnosis App version may be 0628, and you may find that even after using the Diagnosis app to enable autoconfigure, you don't have 3G connectivity; you will after to enter the APN info manually under the cellular settings (APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn, USERNAME: wapuser, PASSWORD: wap)
3) once you have a fully unlocked phone, you deploy DiagProvXML v0.91 and use it to activate the internet sharing -- details are in the Windows Phone Development and Hacking thread, and you can see a video of it here:
http://windowsphonehacker.com/artic...ring_on_samsung_mango_windows_phones-09-29-11
it seems to work . . .
Yes, ATT users can get the WiFi Hotspot working with some work and having Dev plus other unlocks.

Hmmm... yes.. nice article. Already had the Samsung Tools from And as far as I know I still have the Microsoft Deployment Software for Windows Phone. Just need to go get the DiagProvXML downloaded. Will give this a shot right now.
Now if I could only get MMS and Texting to work. I'm on Fido and it's been a challenge let me tell you !
Thanks!
PS: APN settings for Fido would be fido-core-appl1.apn
Edit: I guess I lost my Chevron in the Mango update and do not have a developer unlock. The Application Deployment fails and says I need a Dev unlocked device. Sigh.....

after you have flashed you touch to what ever rom works for you. there will no need to flash it for android because android as it is will not replace windows. andriod runs off of the sd card. just read forum for android on the touch it should any question you have.

Can you make calls or not?
If you can't call or recv is your ESN in the cricket system.
Did this just start happening?
If you can not make calls but can recv calls go to EPST setting/CDMA setting and change the following..
EVRC enable = enable
and the three below it change to EVRC
make sure you have cricket PRL
HOME SID/NID are correct
ESN matches cricket system
MDN/MIN are correct
Everything works fine now, call and text. However mobile web is still a no go. In the new Ion build there is no APN settings program, just APN under settings for the android. When I add my user name and password to my current APN it still wont log on.

Web works on mine. reset your modem settings using the modem icon. You may have to dl a new modem app though.
The APN settings should be the same as the settings you used on the window mobile settings, wap.mycricket.com port 8080 etc etc.
How do you change the modem settings? Ive entered all the information in APN like user name, password, por,t proxy, is there anything else you said..... meaning theres more?

So what are the correct APN setting to make these cupcake builds work on Cricket???
actually at this time i have no idea if it works or not as they removed the ppp.username ppp.password from teh default.txt and from then on it seemed to have killed the data connection.
All i did was go into the wireless networks settings, or APN settings in wireless settings and modify teh defulat. I changed all the settings that you would in WinMo and left the rest as they were and it all worked. Currently trying to download a new system image file so I can test it.

The HTML data plan is a good work around but is not a 100% sure fix because in different markets it also works through the Simple IP. There are other work arounds like the broadband hack. But that requires a broadband number.
I know this is a bit old but has anything changed here to make Android market/data work on cricket data plan? I am still confused as to what settings in android to make (followed all of whitey's instructions for cricket)

Hey guys,
Dell have posted Connection Settings app in the marketplace. You can search for this ONLY using the phone's marketplace. Does not come up in Zune marketplace for some reason
seems to allow you to change MMS settings but it does not work for me.
I've also posted in the Dev & Hacking forum
dell releasing an exclusive app for its phones
wow thats a change
how useful is it?

That seems to be the case for all carrier and OEM specific apps.
Is it under 'tools'?
The app installed and works for me, but all the settings show as blank. So what should our settings be for the DVP on T-Mo USA?
Go to Marketplace and touch the search button on your phone. In Marketplace Search, search for "connection settings."
This looks like an app for international (non-US) markets for tweaking MMS settings. In fact, MMS Settings is the only screen. It doesn't allow for other settings like Wi-Fi (I tried swiping sideways, but nothing happened).

thats a good sign for those in the uk cause alot of sites are reporting its going to be on sale there next week sometime
I disassembled the code and it doesn't have anything fancy and no other pages other than what we see. Uses the same EM COM wrapper API to write the settings.
what is settings for t-mobile MMS?

Yep..unfortunately. The EM one has the same and much more info.
Does anyone know of anyone who can issue a AT command to reset the phone modem?
I even unlocked all the GSM bands on this DVP. But, i can't unlock the DVP from tmo. I either need to reset the modem or find the password. There is a AT commad to rest the modem config to default-i am afraid to do it, if it bricks my phone.
Whoa. Why offer this app if they aren't even providing carrier unlock codes?
This is to go with the UK/European release (which is imminent), where the devices will be sold carrier unlocked, and hence, provision needs to be made to allow changes in MMS settings (since you can just swap SIMs and hence, network).
Coincedentally, the UK DVPs were meant to ship around January 11th, but were delayed due to an Microsoft issue with MMS settings. Likely, MS held the release because they realised short of a hard reset to run the OOBE, there would be no way to change MMS settings when you change network, which is unacceptable as a user experience. The release of the MMS settings app could signal the release of the UK DVPs

A Microsoft issue with MMS? As I understand it, the ability to change or add MMS settings are hidden, but available to the HTC'S and Samsungs of the world. The decision to not expose those settings is more of a locked to a carrier function. Thought we found this out week one with the hd7, and later the LG and Samsung, who quickly released a connection setup . Dell is just now figuring it out.
There is still the Microsoft issue with WiFi , and the Microsoft issue with gorilla glass to be resolved.
Not true. The HTC Connection app does not expose MMS connection settings. General reports on teh interwebs is that the only Windows Phone 7 users with working MMS are those who are using a device on the carrier it was originally sold for.

It's true that the HTC app does not *expose* the settings, but it does *operate* on them.
I have an unlocked HD7 which I took overseas on vacation, and into which I inserted a local prepaid SIM. HTC Connection Setup ran and I was able to send MMS successfully.

Perhaps, though those of us on Wind Canada (uses MMS proxy) have had no such luck. There's at least a sense in which Microsoft's interface for connection settings is way too basic - whether there's an ADC app or not, there should be an ability to edit BOTH apn's, and with greater detail than simply a username and password.

I agree MMS settings is an Operator/OEM thing. I was citing the explanation for the UK delay (http://www.wpcentral.com/dell-venue-pro-delayed-sigh-again-uk).
Certainly, the MMS settings are down to Dell, and not MS, but MS may have had issue with Dell releasing a carrier free handset in the UK with no easy way to change the MMS settings, and that was the 'MS Issue', not any implication that there were problems with MMS that were MS's responsibility (as in a problem with the OS itself).
Hope that clears that up.
Hi all,
I bought the AT&T Atrix 4G as I can use it here in Australia on the Telstra network. Is there any way / hack to allow me to use the wireless hotspot feature? Would be very handy; I obviously can't sign up for an ATT account.
I installed the new update, so I can't root the phone yet.
You can get root , go to the below thread, you will need to go back to the original 1.2.6 SBF, just follow the directions from the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
You shouldn't need root to enable this feature. All you need is to add a Custom APN. There's several threads on the subject. The link below is the thread that has the instructions for creating the Custom APN. I also found some thread where users with the latest update have no issues with this as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961217&highlight=wireless+apn
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009195&highlight=wireless+apn
Try searching the Atrix 4G General Forum for "wireless APN" for more information. I hope that helps
I read somewhere that ATT is going to crack down on this. I'll see if I can find it.
I know this isn't an iphone but I'm sure it's the same thing on their end.

i use my atirx in Australia on Telstra as well and i lost my hotpost ability with the ATO update to .57 now i just get the msg saying my account isnt setup of hotpot. curse AT&t's black heart
I'm using the Atrix on AU vodafone's 850MHz network. also updated and also getting the message saying I need to update my AT&T account. :/
I wanna know it too. I´m in Brazil, with TIM network and i can´t tether because of at&t...
had the same problem after the update, im in canada. edit your APN settings to add "default, tether" under APN type.
No luck with that Fido. i tried it with a couple of different apn's that give me a data connection and im getting the same msg. Feels like its deeper than an APN combo

are you sure you entered it right? i got that att message too before i added the apn type...the mod to get mobile hotspot to work is just using the right apn. heres how i set up my apn set up, i only fill out two things.
APN = internet.fido.ca
then go all the way to the last option
APN Type = default,tether
also double check that the lock icon next to your apn is unlocked.
fido ur right i just needed to add default, tether to my apn type.

Hi everybody.
Had the same problem like most of you. I´m in Spain with vodafone and after updating I couldn´t use my atrix as hotspot anymore so googling a bit I found this app.: android-wifi-tether.
After installing the app you get this message:
No Access Control!
Sorry but your kernel does not have all necessary features for the Access Control feature of this application. Access control will be disabled
This is the only issue I found, but the rest works great for me.
Update: Now that we found a solution, I am updating this post with the instructions instead of leaving the solution further down in the thread.
Solution:
On Verizon (and possibly others), the ability to edit MMS APN settings is hidden. Thanks to the help of @RustyGrom and @AlvinPhilemon I was able to leverage the HOWTO: Install Windows 10 for Phones on Non-supported devices (and other hacks) method and a modified WPFlights.xml to unhide the settings. This allows Verizon Windows Phones to run fully and properly on other GSM carriers networks (AT&T in my case)
I was not able to get this to work on Windows 10 TP, as there seems to be a few bugs in the way the APN's are functioning at the moment. Use this method if you want to enable MMS APN access in Windows Phone 8.1 (and most likely 8 as well).
Instructions:
1. Follow instructions from the thread created by @RustyGrom, however replace the WPFlights.xml file with the file attached to this post
2. If you are having problems downloading the certificate, install the full version of Fiddler and make sure to enable HTTPS
3. At the very bottom of the Windows Insider app, you should now have an option to "Unhide MMS APN" instead of "Enable Tethering" like in the original method. Click on the "Unhide MMS APN" and go through the instructions. Once you set it and restart the phone, you should see MMS APN
Warning: This could brick your phone, so use it at your own risk. I make no warranties on the method and am not responsible if it goes wrong

Hey guys, apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but given the registry tweaks/hacks that you have all discovered I was hoping you might be able to help me out. I have a Lumia Icon (930 for Verizon in the US) and there is a setting in the registry to hide the MMS APN, meaning I can't get MMS to work properly on other networks (AT&T in my case). It should be as simple as changing to a 0 or 1 in the registry, but I can't seem to find the location toggle (though I was able to find the XML in the ROM that sets the setting a few months back - same one that shows whether things like ##3282# or ##778# works from the dialer). You used to be able to use Access Point to set the APN, but now that it doesn't work on 8.1 there is no workaround.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need me to try to dive into the phone registry / settings with the webserver I am more than happy to, as that is how I originally found XML that specifies it should be hidden.
Thanks

It is:
Code:

That's what it is on my Verizon HTC One M8 for Windows. It should be the same on yours.

Thanks, appears to be there on my Lumia 1520 (AT&T, which was hidden in W10) and should be there on the Icon. I am going to have to find a way to write to it now, since the Icon doesn't have an SD card slot. I wonder if its possible to use the Windows Insider App

Yes, works perfectly. Basically turned the Icon into the 930. MMS group and picture messaging has no problems, and internet seems to be consistent, though only H/H+ at the moment because I don't live in an area w/ AT&T AWS LTE. Here are the APN settings I used: Programming non-AT&T devices with the correct APN and MMS data settings
On an unrelated note. Does anyone know where the registry keys for dialstrings are found? I'd like to try to re-enable Field Test Mode (##3282# on my 1520) to see if there are any hidden cellular bands available to be re-enabled (1520 actually does have 1700 Mhz AWS for H+, it just needs to be re-enabled in Field Test Mode settings)

I am having problems with my 1520 as well with MMS and Data, and it appears that other people in the other thread are having problems as well. I think its just buggy at this point, and I know there is something weird going on with APN's because I wasn't able to unhide the MMS APN in Windows 10, had to roll back to 8.1 to do it. Basically none of my registry edits were working as expected. The MMS APN even was hidden on the 1520 after it was showing in 8.1

Looks like we will just have to wait. It'll only be a month and then pretty much every other phone will be supported. We'll not only gain support, but probably a ton of changes and bugfixes along with it. I'm just so eager.

I tried this a few times, and am able to install the certificate, but don't see the option in Windows Insider, any other tips?
also, would someone please provide a print screen of the enable MMS APN? I can't seem to find where the option should show up
thanks!

Sorry for being an idiot. I'm coming back to Windows phone after years on Android. I am familiar with rooting/flashing on Android. Guess I'm a win mobile noob now.
In the thread we are supposed to refer to: HOWTO: Install Windows 10 for Phones on Non-supported devices (and other hacks)
Since I don't want to go to WM10...
Can someone summarize for a noob which exact steps I should follow to perform this procedure without upgrading to WM10?
Just need someone with an activated Sprint LS993 (LGG6) to test FoxFi 2.19 with Full version key. Just install both FoxFi apks on phone and install PDAnet on Windows 7. Test USB mode and bluetooth if possible. Please make sure to test USB mode with USB cable.
Having problem uploading the PDAnet .rar. Try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/help/pdanet-foxfi-compatibility-nougat-7-0-t3584055

No Longer Need Someone with an activated Sprint LS993 mind testing FoxFii 2.19 with
UPDATE GOOD NEWS!!!!
Just to let all the Sprint LGG6 owners out there know. FoxFi 2.1.9 does not work with Android 7.0, however, PDAnet 4197 (aka PDAnet+) does, but Sprint blocks access to it in the play store. I have attached the .apk. The FoxFi Key.apk will convert it to a full unlocked version.
Enjoy,

Before Starting Make Sure You Have A Copy Of Your Internet Settings. (Everything in APN Settings)
Go to the Data Menu by entering ##DATA#
Select the APN Settings & Select Edit (Enter MSL)
Tap Each APN Separately (Select Edit & Enter MSL) & DELETE APNs (By Selecting The 3 Dots To The Right)
**You won't be able to delete ota apn but that's fine.
**Now you should have no internet!!!
Go To Regular Settings Then Select (More, Mobile Networks, Access Point Names) & Add APN Manually. **Adding "default, mms, supl, dun" under APN TYPE
**Put in all the correct settings the first time before saving APN. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GO BACK & EDIT APN AFTER IT'S SAVE. (The only way to correct the APN once saving it is to start at step one. Yes starting all over.)
Once You Put The Correct APN Settings In & Save It, LTE or DATA Should Show Up.
TRY TETHERING!!! OH IT WORKS.....?

Much thanks
i was finally able to get the APN option to show up.
Here is what i did ..
Called sprint and asked to get my Phone UICC unlocked. I explained needed it to be able to use my phone abroad with other carries. (I have business trip in two weeks.)
This request takes two to three business days to get this through their system and your account has to be in good standing.
Then today i did ##72786# which resets provisioning parameters... Now the APN menu is available.
Now that the settings are available to me. I did try your method posetd but got no LTE data after all was said and done.
So i do have a few questions for you if you can still assist.
1. Where/did you get the full APN settings from ..on my phone it will not display it.(mms address ip etc..)
2. on my phone for LTE its using the IMS APN can you share your IMS APN settings with me?
much thanks once again.

I deleted the IMS, the only thing that I kept was ota. And then add the Internet APN manually. Yours might be r.ispsn.... And it's in the ##DATA Menu.... MMSC
